Few places open before 8 am and this was one. Wish we didn't!! Menu wasn't much and they don't substitute when asked. 2 breakfast and 2 cups of coffee, $50!!! Really?? I know this is a tourist place and I expect that much for lunch but for BREAKFAST? Service was good but that's where it ends. Requested over medium eggs and got over easy. I HATE RUNNY EGGS ... just me though!! Hubby got the Eggs Benny and he said it was good. I had normal eggs, bacon and instead of potatoes got HARD GREEN tomatoes. Not southern fried green tomatoes, Just green tomatoes. If you are going to have prices like this, have espresso or cappuccino and avocado/toast. This place was eggscellent! My fiancé and I needed to fill our bellies for a long day of hiking, so we came to this spot for breakfast and it didn't disappoint. Our food--eggs florentine, Swedish pancakes, spinach omelet--was delicious. We especially appreciated the free coffee refills and generous portions. A great place for early birds, opens at 6:30am. We went here around 7am and were were the third table there. The place is big when they open up the outside seating. I went with the eggs Benedict Florentine it was good but nothing out of the ordinary. They provide with a good portion of hollandaise sauce. My wife went with the mushroom omelette and thought it was good too. The highlight was their multigrain walnut waffle. It was really good and would recommend getting it if you are here. Had brunch here a couple days ago and it was good. I ordered the eggs benedict and it was great. My wife had the egg special, which has amazing strips of bacon. The restaurant itself is quaint. Service was okay. Had the staff been a little more personable this would be a five-star review, but I'll take terse service over poor food any day. One word: yum. This place is as right as rain. My family and I (party of five) came in on a Wednesday morning at 11a and were seated within minutes. I will mention that this place was still full despite it being a weekday. It's winter and from the outside looking in, it looks like you'll be freezing eating your breakfast. Not the case at all. The seating area is blocked out by tarp-type material and warmed with heaters above your heads and a few standing heaters. No complaints of cold here. Portion sizes are perfect. Not too much, not too little. Breakfast/diner food often has a reputation of huge portions which for me, will usually go to waste. My family and I collectively had: one coffee, the southwest eggs florentine, southwest eggs benedict, spinach/feta/mushroom omelet, chorizo scramble, a 3-stack of pancakes, and a side of bacon--all for $63 after tax. I have no complaints about flavor--it was all delicious. The seasoned potatoes that come as a side with either eggs benedict/florentine were terrific with a mild crunch. The side of bacon is thick and substantial but still crunchy af. The chorizo scramble is similar to chilaquiles--tortilla strips, chorizo, some scrambled eggs, and seasoned potatoes in the mix. Ugh I'm salivating as I write this even though it's only been a few hours since we ate this. Thanks, for making me hungry again as I write this review, Jailhouse Cafe. Eggs Benedict Mexicana was excellent. Pancakes were a bit heavy and not light and fluffy. This could just be a difference in how they are made where we live. They were still tasty. I knocked this down to 4 stars because there was an 18% automatic gratuity for a to go order. I understand doing this for large parties but not a to go order. And I added 2 bucks on top and f the order not know they already gave themselves a 20% tip on a to go order. While is was OK I wouldn't go as far as "The BEST", well maybe best in Moab? The eggs were overcooked as in not runny, and the hollandaise was really bland. Excellent little breakfast spot! I liked everything about it. I had a bacon/cheddar cheese omelette, and it was cooked perfectly. I also had a ginger pancake and it too was good. I noticed several other dishes from the tables around me and everything looked delicious. This is a very popular place, but they serve you quickly so the wait shouldn't be long. They've been here for 27 years. I need to let that sink in. That's a long time. They were certainly one of the early places as the world of Mountain Bikers and what we'd tend to call hipster food came to Moab. As a guy whose been coming here since the 60's they still seem kind of new to me. I used to always come for jeep Safari in the 80's, and personal jeep and hiking trips through the 70's and 80's, this place never existed. I remember how much I liked it when they opened. About the only thing that's changed is the significantly expanded space and the crowds of people. They menu feels the same, and these days the menu is mainstream with a few hooks rather than way out there like it did when it opened. That and they are no longer open in the Winter. There were times when they were one of the only places of quality open in the Winter. The ingredients are better than the national chains. They quality of cooking and presentation much better as well. I was here with the wife, son, and daughter in law. We were passing through on our way home. It was a wonderful break. The orange juice excellent. The coffee good enough to drink black. If it's sour or bitter I'll cover it up with cream and sugar. That's not needed here. I'll admit to being a purest on the eggs benedict, but the southwest flavor add is pretty good too. The swedish pancakes with lingonberry are excellent. The bacon perfect. I just went with the traditional breakfast and left very happy. There's not many places with this kind of longevity, and it's more popular today than it's ever been. There's a reason. The food, atmosphere, and servers justify it. read more

This is a great breakfast place. We sat outside on the heated patio. It was 35 degrees outside but the patio was toasty warm. Our server was great. She was super busy but handled it well. This place is a great spot for breakfast! We came here one morning, early (yay they open at 7am) before a day of hiking! We were pleasantly surprised by the variety of the menu, without being overwhelmed by too many options. We opted for a sweet-and-salty combo, sharing the chorizo scramble and the Swedish pancakes with Lingonberries. The Chorizo scramble was really yummy, similar to a huevos rancheros, but with a decided kick at the end! The pancakes were surprisingly delightful, not too sweet, and super satisfying! The coffee was good, and our server was prompt on filling up our glasses when we drank it half-way. The atmosphere was cute - we sat outside, and the chill of the morning, combined with the heat lamp was perfection! Locations is ideal, right across from our hotel and on Main Street by all the other shops/restaurants. If you're here I would strongly recommend breakfast at the Jailhouse Cafe!
