Hmmm, how do we rate this one? Ok, the food was good but it fell short of expectations. It certainly didn't live up to the hype. Our waitress was delightful the second waitress was LOUD. Every table could hear every word she spoke. The public radio station made for a poor ambience. The history of the building was unique and fun. Overall it was good not great. When my son requested we go to Denny's this morning I stared at him in horror and almost disowned the lad given how far he has come in his culinary knowledge. Thus after trusting my fellow "elite" badgers on Yelp we paid a visit to this enchanting brunch spot. The name speaks to its history as a former jailhouse and it looks as though they expanding at some point for the overflow as the dining areas are somewhat disjointed but the crowd was bustling and so I knew we were in for some good grub. I was assured by our hostess, who seems like the matriarch of this establishment, that their locally roasted coffee is the best!! Though it's a smoother blend than I typically enjoy regularly, it was quite good and they even poured me a road runner at no extra charge! Featured in the pics are the eggs and chorizo which is a hearty scramble with the chorizo, corn tortilla strips, potatoes and peppers mixed throughout like a hash of sorts accompanied with sour cream, salsa and jalapeños. Of course I also had to sample the ginger pancake and thick cut bacon, all of which were on point! Wife had the chorizo Benedict which also was well well enjoyed. If I had to nitpick I would say that the dining area we were seated in went from somewhat chilly (they had a space heater) to way hot as the sun began to bare down on us through the windows, making it a bit uncomfortable. In any case though, I would certainly go back in future travels for my breakfast fix. Oh and I didn't go for the 21.99 T shirt that shows you've been there..... that's a bit much for advertising a restaurant on a Hanes T shirt, wouldn't ya say?? Got here at around 9:15 and waited about 15 minutes to be sat. They will yell your name from the hostess stand, so make sure you don't stray too far while waiting or they might call your name and you'll miss it! This is a quaint but busy little spot. We all started with coffees. We ordered the Swedish pancakes with lingonberries, the eggs benedict Mexican, the jailhouse chorizo scramble, and the el greco omelette. Perhaps we should've looked up other pictures of Swedish pancakes, but I didn't expect them to just be 3 thin pancakes with a dish of berries on the side which you are meant to put in the pancake and roll it up. I would probably not order these again. The rest of the food was very good, though. I especially enjoyed the freshness of the el greco omelette. The ginger pancakes with apple butter is freaking amazing. They should sell jars of the apple butter, it is that good. Service is excellent. Everyone is polite. Prices are quite fair. All in all an excellent place for breakfast. read more

Phenomenal breakfast. Eat here. Seriously, I had the best (local) version of Eggs Benedict ever (Southwestern). You also need to order the bacon. I told my family I'd share it and I was sorry that I did because I could have eaten it all myself! The potatoes were tasty, too! 5 minute wait 9 a.m. Sunday morning. Server was very friendly. Coffee & food came out quickly. We all had SW Benedict. It was ok. Definitely not the "best benedict" we've ever had. I thought the spicy potatoes were a bit much, even though I like spicy, just not that spicy first thing in the morning. Hollandaise was runny and the potatoes were cold and over cooked. As with the rest of Moab, food was way overpriced for what you get. We have 3 benedicts, 3 reg coffee and a very small side of fruit. This is my favorite brunch place in Moab to take the family to. We make it a priory to go here at least once a trip. Don't be fooled by all the delicious things on the menu, the best option is the Eggs Benedict. Perfectly poached eggs with a creamy hollandaise sauce on toasted English muffins. Went here per reviews during our stay in Moab and loved it! It is such a cute location with kind and attentive staff. The seating is nice too, you can sit inside the building or outside in a covered area with a breeze and AC. My husband ordered an omelette and orange juice and I had their "world famous" eggs Benedict which did not disappoint, and a hot tea. Overall great experience and would recommend. read more

First time here and decided to make it our last stop before leaving Moab. The place is very cute and had tables set up inside and outside. I saw they are only open for breakfasts and they have a limited menu. So you may want to check it out first before coming. My husband ordered Eggs Benedict and I ordered the Jail House Scramble which had potatoes and veggies with mozzarella. The food came quickly and looked amazing! Sorry I didn't take photos. His came with a side of breakfast potatoes and mine came with toast made from yummy bread! We both loved our meals. I noticed a waiter that was doing such a good job in our area. It was like he could read your mind and asked you if you needed something specific before you asked. When he came back to check on us, I made sure to compliment him. He may have gotten flustered and later accidentally gave our bill to the other couple next to us. This place does not disappoint, we arrived there about 8am Sunday and within 20 minutes the place was packed. They were super fast to take and bring out the order. The chorizo breakfast burrito was the special and it was delicious! The salsa was a little to spicy for me but the burrito and potatoes were spot on. read more

This is probably my favorite breakfast spot in Moab. I eat here every time I visit. This time I ordered the waffle and it was delicious. Fluffy with fresh fruit. Very filling. The thick cut bacon goes great with it. The staff are always super friendly. I will definitely be back. read more

They looked super busy this morning, but the wait was 15-20 mins. The restaurant expands into several different wings. Brilliant as to serve more customers! All 5 of us enjoyed our breakfasts from ginger and swedish pancakes, spinach/mushroom omelet, eggs benedict and regular pancakes/eggs and their infamous bacon. Excellent service, fast food delivery, yummy memorable meals, can't ask for anything more! Definitely my go-to for breakfast. read more

We came here in between hikes around Moab and mmmm it was so good. We had a ginger pancake and a Swedish pancake for the table and both delicious, we voted the Swedish pancake to be slightly better. I also had a scramble which was huge, and I had leftovers that I ate a few days later that were still very good. The bacon is worth the hype and price! We loved our breakfast at jail house! It's really nothing special but a little breakfast joint with made to order food. We both ordered omelettes which were pretty big! I got a side of bacon instead of potatoes with mine and he got the home fries which were super good! The pancake was hot and fluffy. We had been on a sunrise photo shoot at Arches. We were hungry and had been told by locals this was a great place. We suspected a party of 9 would take forever to seat. Nope. What I'm most impressed about with the Jailhouse Cafe, is that I hadn't been there since I was 21 and it's still exactly how I remember it. The food is great, get the soul food bacon and either benedict and you'll love it. Pancakes area great. Lets talk about the best place to have coffee next to the Moab coffee roasters. Its' all you can drink and it's super high quality. Go right before a hike and get super jazzed for the trail. Plus since it's mostly outdoors, you can visit during a stupid pandemic and feel safe. A little pricey for quality of food. Plain black coffee was $4 and it barely tasted any different from your typical cup of joe. Came in today 6/18/22 seating was quick but the food was HORRIBLE ordered the eggs Benedict and company ordered pancakes and bacon . Starting with the EN it came to table less the warm almost cold and hollandaise sauce was sitting so long it had a hardened layer . Potato's came out warm as well Sent it back and just to reheat in microwave knew it couldn't hurt . Other plate of 3 oversized and DOUGHY pancakes were as well inedible . Bacon was ok . Wait time on food at 10:30 am was about 10 -15 minutes. Watched staff clean up plates with large amount of food not ate as well . Won't be back Won't recommend Live and learn !!!! read more
