The food is good, but service and atmosphere is kind of questionable. I always love their $5 lunch deals with a soup. We came in at like 8:30pm. They sat us right away , but it was next to really drunk people. I thought nothing of it till we got our foods. We ordered the Ma Po Tofu and Sweet n Sour Pork. The delicious were delicious, but the noise in the restaurant began to pick up. Two different family started to stare because they couldn't hear themselves talk. Manager sent over a waiter to address it to the family. Nothing was really done because the group continue to yell and pour a open Hennessy bottle to each other. Maybe, these people are friends or regulars at the place. Definitely, won't be eating in again. Maybe, just take out. I couldn't hear my girlfriend talk. Price is decent and portions are good. Wish they address the noise issue a little better. read more

Food is amazing from previous trips.... But we got here 30 mins before closing on my birthday and they turned us away saying they were closed... with a disgusting dismissive attitude. Didn't even address us like we were real people. Despite this being great food we will never come back here after that disgustingly rude interaction. Zero stars if I could. Nasty dead crabs in the window...... dirty. I ignored cus the food was good but it's nasty here read more

The food items and how people feel about them has been covered here extensively so just say my own impressions. We came on a Sunday afternoon prior to a show, got a table in a very empty restaurant , and when we left there were zero tables left it was so full. Quite delicious family style food, simple ordering, not too expensive, big portions, and a very Chinatown experience of big families and friends around the tables, sparse decor, and fresh fish and eels and crabs and lobsters in the tanks when you walked in. Service was just fine, we had to flag down waiters but everyone was very pleasant to us and I prefer not to be pestered by waitstaff every five minutes when I eat so I found it to be enjoyable. I'm looking forward to coming back here so i can try out a few more of the dishes here that come highly regarded, my only regret was having a limited time to eat and v hungry so I didn't branch out from my standard dishes I get when I'm trying out a new place. read more

Came here for a friends birthday, who had been going there since she was little, and literally have become obsessed. I'm a Caribbean girl and the lobster there is very different so upon coming to Jade I finally found a place on the east coast that makes it the best. Seriously. Their house fried rice is also a favorite, not extremely greasy and so much flavor. The staff is always very friendly, the place is clean, and the food is amazing. Only con is the parking but it is Boston so it's expected. *Tip: there's a garage less than a couple blocks away * Truly a hidden gem and my family and I will forever come back! read more

Wow, a new favorite! A friend came here for a dinner and I saw pictures of fried milk. Fascinated, I had my family come here for the latest family dinner. Everything was fantastic. Seafood soup with fish maw Fried calamari - actually spicy here! Crispy chicken - super juicy Walnut shrimp served with fried milk!!! Hong Kong Style Steak was ahhh-mazing Sweet and sour pork was solid Pea shoots, a must. Service is like any chinese restaurant. Smells, a bit musty. Price is much more expensive than Brighton area but the quality is most certainly there! I highly recommend any of the dishes above. read more

I walked around Chinatown on a Tuesday evening and looked at the options and yelp reviews. Most reviews are kinda mixed, so I settled on Jade Garden. It was busy with large families speaking Chinese and celebrating. The service was quick. I had Beef Chow Foon. The rice noodles were very tender and tasty. I also had a fried scallion pancake. Everything was good, and it was a fun experience, even as a solo diner. read more

Came in here for a late night dinner a couple of times during a recent visit to Boston. One of the better restaurants in Chinatown for authentic Chinese cuisine. The restaurant is very stereotypical Chinese with older furniture, tanks full of live fish and lobster and staff eating at a nearby table.....none of which bother me at all!!! What counts is that the staff were friendly, the prices were great and the food was fabulous!!! Here's what we tried: Hong Kong Pork Chops, Ma Po Tofu, Chinese Vegetable, Young Chow Fried Rice, Salt and Pepper Squid and cooked Oysters in black bean sauce!!!!! Ma Po Tofu was a tad oily but other than that everything was amazing and I believe the pictures speak louder than my words can!!!! Hungry just writing about it! WILL BE BACK!!!! read more

Update on this place - still a staple of Chinatown and still first-rate cooking. The lobster with ginger and scallion sauce is cooked really well, bringing the flavors into a sauce, and deeply flavorful. The yu choy vegetables were also cooked really well - tender, smooth, and tinged with some salt and broth. The bok choy with dried tofu puffs were both tender and allowed the dried tofu puffs to absorb much of the sauce. The egg with beef was quite impressive - smooth silky egg and nicely flavored beef. The herb soup with chicken was richly simmered, definitely a rich and deep flavor. There was also a beef dish with a sauce, really tender as well. All in all much impressed! read more

We were first-timers there on Christmas day. Ordered the #1 assortment of appetizers, kung pao shrimp, and crispy duck. The duck wasn't "crispy" at all, the shrimp could have easily come out of a Sysco can...same for the appetizers. Service was barely there. I suspect if you are a local, and know what to order, and the waiter knows you ...the food and service would be great. Tourists and other non-locals: stay away! read more

TLDR: a couple dollars more than other Chinatown eats which is commensurate to the deliciousness of the food. It's got the biggest sign on the street for a reason. This place is probably a couple more dollars per dish more expensive than other Chinatown places but the food lives up to it. It has a strong seafood component to the restaurant with live tanks. Service is fast and snappy and the inside is warm and well lit. Just wish they had a better beer selection. read more

Great traditional authentic Chinese food in Chinatown. Fast service, great quality and good service. It's two sides in the dining room but the restaurant itself isn't too large. They're great for seafood but for certain ones such as the Alaskan King Crab you might need to make reservations. They have traditional Chinese food and for the Americans or ABCs they also have the fake Chinese food. They also have great lunch specials on the weekdays. read more

Across the street from Gaga Seafood and the food tastes better than Gaga. While this place only have 3.5 stars, it has one of the more authentic wok fires in Chinatown. Anyone who is familiar with Cantonese cooking, the taste of the wok fire is extremely important. For example, we ordered the House Special (Yang Chow) fried rice. The moment the rice hit the table you can feel the heat and smell the flame. If you have ever had fried rice and do not experience these two factors, it was not good fried rice. We ordered the salt and pepper soft shell crab. Very crisp, fresh and just the right amount of salt and pepper. (We had the egg yolk soft shell crab the night before at Gaga Seafood and it was mushy, soft and wet. The crab was also frozen, so major disappointment.) Jade Garden's crab and frying technique ensured the crab was crispy and dry. We also ordered scallion ginger lobster, a must have for when Boston and Chinese food collides. Lobster was fresh, easy to remove from the shell and very very bouncy (asian term for when certain foods have the right consistency and firmness). The dinner ended with free red bean soup. Always a plus since many restaurants do not offer this anymore. Overall amazing experience. Good food and super fast cooking. I recommend walking across the street to eat at Jade Garden than at Gaga Seafood. read more

Came here at like 1AM after some dancing at Whisky Saigon. Even though they close at 2AM, they didn't seem annoyed when we walked in (unlike another place that was, which shall not be named). The lady at the front was very nice and seated us right away. Tea was quickly served and order was taken quickly, which is what we wanted because we were hungry. We got the beef chowfun and the tidbits #1. It was... a lot of food. I think we could've done with just the chowfun. For ~$7, it's freakking ginormous. The noodles were a bit clumped but it was all delicious. The tidbits (~$9) came with one egg roll that was OK, 4 fried chickens that were salty but amazing, and 4 crab rangoons. So.much.food. I think i'd come here again to try other noodle dishes! The beef chowfun won me over. And service too - no rush to get customers out by 2AM read more

Go into any Chinatown and you'll find these Cantonese style restaurants. Jade Garden and New Golden Gate around the corner offers super cheap lunch options (right now at $5.25 in 2018). They do have a $10 minimum but took my card anyways as I did not have cash. Look down the menu and you'll find multiple rice dishes, noodle dishes, convene, and more. These generally all come with a hot and sour soup white helps in bringing out your appetite. Aside from the lunch options, their standard Cantonese fare is quite good as well! A favorite of my friends and I are the giant surf clam which comes stir fried on top of a bed of garlic vermicelli. Some of their bigger "soups" are delicious as well. One of them is a giant herbal lamb soup which comes with chunks of lamb meat in a hearty herbal broth, perfect for the winter. It is easily shareable amongst 5-8 people and is around $30 a pot. If you are in the area for some solid Cantonese food, do not hesitate to come here! read more

If you look across the parking lot in the middle of Chinatown, you can't help but see Jade Garden, the restaurant up a flight of steps in the space that used to be Big Fish. It still looks pretty new, and filled up pretty well during Sunday lunch with parties of various sizes. The tanks were full of live sea creatures including a multitude of lobsters - do they have a lobster special??? Anyhow, since we were a party of 7 here for lunch, we ordered a bunch of carbs, a meat, and a veggie: * Yuen Yen Fried Rice $9.50 * Kon Sue Yee Mein $6.95 * Beef Udon with Satay Sauce $8.00 * Stir-fried Watercress with garlic (not exactly on the menu) * Veal Ribs with String Beans $11.95 Everything was pretty well cooked, and the sauces for the Yuen Yen rice dish were poured to display a bright and cheery ying-yang sign. The watercress was still crispy and bright green, which is to my taste. The veal ribs tender, the string beans crisp and flavorful. Even the noodles were flavorful and not overcooked. My only confusion was the lack of veggies tossed in with the noodles (only mushrooms with the yee mein and only the named beef in with the udon noodles) - not even onions or chives... good thing we ordered the 2 other dishes that came with some green on them! 2 single person bathrooms available - one per gender, which, given the size of the dining room, wasn't ideal. Members of our party disappeared for quite a while here and there waiting for their turn. I grabbed their take-out menu, so I'll share that they have a Lunch Specials menu for $5.25 on weekdays from 11am - 3pm. A choice of 12 dishes come served with French Fries (really???), choice of Japanese Salad or Miso Soup, and Fried Rice or Lo Mein. Lunch Specials choices: Chicken Chop with Black Pepper Spicy Salted Fried Mixed Vegetables General Gao's Chicken Sesame Chicken Orange Beef Chicken with Mixed Vegetables Pork Chop with Sweet Corn Beef with String Beans and Black Pepper Kong Pao Chicken Curry Chicken with Potatoes Sweet and Sour Pork Mixed Mushroom with Soy Bean Paste (After a second trip 1/2010): They have fried milk??? Thanks Steph! I had to come back to see if it was for real. Hmmm... it wasn't on the menu... must be a Chinese menu item. We ordered: .Fried Milk (thanks Steph!) $6.95 for 12 pieces (yay! yum!) .Hong Siu Ban Nam Bo (thanks Ambrose!) $10.95 (I get this fish and tofu hot pot dish often as a rice plate at Chinatown Cafe, and didn't know there was any other place that made it!) (good!) .Beef Brisket Hot Pot $12.50 (pretty simple a dish, tender meat, kind of bland for me though) .Stir Fried Pea Pod Stems with Garlic $12.50 (strangely came with whole garlic cloves instead of minced, but still vibrant green and crispy, and picked well so there were no tough tendrils to deal with) .Spicy Salted Dry Fried Pork Chop $9.95 (huge pieces of pork but not that large a portion, tender enough, good flavored) .Seafood Udon with Satay Sauce $9.50 (chewy udon like I like it, but I still don't know why this place has such a lack of veggies in its noodle dishes) .small serving bowl of white rice to share $3 This fed 8 people quite well for $84 including tip & tax. But I'll have to taste New Golden Gate's version again before I decide if this place has dethroned it as top choice for the fried milk, because it has been a while since I've had theirs. *** 11/2017 *** On a previous visit this year we decided against the fish hot pot for some reason, can't remember why. On this visit the meat in the veal and string bean dish $8.95 was stringy and tough to chew. Everything else we had were good and up for revisiting: Peapod Stems - surprisingly good even when stir fried without the garlic! But the price here is $15.95, which seems significantly higher than at other similar restaurants Beef Udon with Satay Sauce $9.95 Vegetable Beef Chow Foon $7.95 Chicken Fried Rice $7.95 - nice plump diced chicken Spicy Salted Dry Fried Pork Chop $10.95 Fried Bean Curd with Mushroom $9.95 - We were expecting tofu, Chinese broccoli, mushroom, but instead of the Chinese broccoli, it was bok choy and it all came in a serving bowl. Still good! PS - weekday lunch specials are still $5.25, 11am - 3pm. read more

When you find yourself hungry and it's way pass midnight so not much places are open (at least not one that's appealing) Jade Garden will suffice. They open late to accommodate the late-nighters trickling in for some traditional Chinese food. We ordered the followings: Ginger Beef was Phenomenal! The beef was tender and the flavor was on point. The slices of ginger complimented it wonderfully! It was a cohesive and delicious dish. Salt and Pepper chicken wings was nicely seasoned and fried to crispy yet juicy perfection! House Fried Rice was nothing special....but, it wasn't bad either. Nothing a light drizzle of Soy Sauce couldn't fix. Walnut Prawns was my least favorite. Drenched and tasted like a soggy mess of mayo...not much else going on besides that. Our server, although not as attentive was friendly. Gave us dessert on the house which was a nice treat. Overall, it was a decent dining experience and if I'm ever in the area again I would consider returning. read more

I think I found my new favorite Chinese joint in Chinatown. Everything we ordered here was delicious and the service was friendly. I'm not sure if it's just because my family frequents this place and they know my cousins really well. But, as most know Asian restaurants are more known for terrible, could careless service. I was really craving some old-school mayo shrimp with walnuts (or whatever you prefer to call it) a few months ago, and I saw that this place had it on the menu and happened to be open nearby. They took my phone order easily, and my food was cooked quickly. Sadly, it was a big disappointment. While the shrimp was perfectly cooked, it was really lacking in flavor. They didn't bother seasoning the shrimp or the batter at all. Once you got past the mayo sauce, it was extremely bland. I did appreciate that there was a good amount of shrimp and a good portion of broccoli, but I couldn't get over the lack of seasoning. I've had better mayo shrimp from roadside Chinese buffets. It definitely curbed my craving for it because it was bad enough that I've been scared to order this dish from any other restaurant since. I can't attest to the rest of their food and wouldn't be opposed to come back, but I definitely wouldn't order this again. read more

Went here a couple days ago in honor of a friend's birthday and we couldn't have asked for better customer service. A few people in our party had their hearts set on fresh king crab but it wasn't in season so no Chinatown restaurants had them hanging out in the tanks. After calling all over the place, Jade Garden set out to personally buy the king crab so they can prepare it for our dinner that night. We couldn't be happier and they served it 3 ways: Salt and pepper style, steamed with garlic and scallions and crab fried rice. So awesome! Other notable mentions: Shrimp sashimi - I would eat buckets and buckets of these if I could. So tasty and fresh. Herbal chicken soup - Very nice to have on a colder day and the herbal properties in the soup is guaranteed to fortify. Only ding on the soup was that the top was a little oily but as long as you scoop it out before drinking it, you should be okay. Sea Conch with Chives, Lobster with Ginger & Scallions, Fried Tofu with Shrimp and Sea Bass with black bean sauce - Prepared and flavored exactly as you imagine it should be as these are pretty typical standard Cantonese dishes. Loved it and we will be back... read more

Was visiting Boston and the recommended by our hotel. Food was greasy. Chicken was overcooked, so dry and tough, and i feel like eating a card board is much better (imagine that you have a piece of hard thick jean and chew that). Seasoning wasn't all that bad. It has some flavor. Seem like they put everything in deep fryer and forgot about it. Pork chop has some old oil flavor to it. Beef Lomien was ok, could be better. And the crab wonton was also overcooked. read more

Worst food ever! Jade Garden used to be great, but something changed- maybe new management. Eat elsewhere...

I always feel redundant reviewing Chinatown Cantonese restaurants because the food is consistently good and the service is consistently mediocre. But only by American standards. I understand you come for the food not the service, to an establishment like Jade Garden. Nonetheless, this time I'm taking off stars for the service, even while understanding the nature of Cantonese restaurants. I think this is more of a story of a lesson learned than a hope for change. We made a reservation for a large group of 15 people and ended up at a table only big enough for 12 that was in a corner. When we requested to move to an empty table with more space because we couldn't fit more chairs, they brought out little folding stools as an answer. Towards the end of the dinner, at which point it was after 8pm, they took away peoples plates and desserts before they were done eating because they needed our table for another group. But it's not all bad because one server came out after us when someone in our group forgot something at the table. The food was good, but it was an adventure and a half for our large party. read more

Really big portions. Great vegetarian dishes: I highly recommend the Ma Po Tofu and the stir fry eggplant dish. The flavors are really great and they all come in big portions. Order them with rice. The scallion pancakes were OK too. I got the Beef Chow Fun and it was really greasy. I just think it was not very flavorful.... I felt like the grease really covered up the potential flavors it had. But again, the fish was really huge so I definitely had enough for 2-3 meals. The place was nice and big and the wait staff were all nice. I just didn't find the food to be that impressive. read more
