If you're not in their delivery area, and even if you are, you have to call in your order then call again when you get there and they bring it out to you in your car. I have been going to Jade Cafe for well over a decade if not closer to 20 years. It's always good for Chinese food, and I do recommend them to anyone who asks. But they are bordering on ruining their own great reputation built-up over all that time. About a month ago we ordered from them like we always do, and it was still same good food, lower prices even with the 'rona price raises, delivery was a bit longer than normal, still no big deal. But they left out 1 soup we definitely ordered and paid for. I call them and the employee who answered phone said they did not leave out that soup so I again looked over everything and I told him nope its not here. He then insisted that they had sent it and it quickly got to him not budging and insisted they had sent it. So ok I was not going to just get into a yelling session. I hung up & moved on. We ordered again last night, I wanted us to get another place since it went so weird last time. Fam wasn't on board, because we all love JC. They sent out chicken curry, but i ordered and paid for Beef curry. It says beef on the receipt, and written on the box but the meat inside is clearly and undeniably chicken or pork, its light white meat, beef is almost never white meat that i know of in my 42 years I've never seen white meat beef. I did not eat any of it at all, I am going today to show them and see how they react when I am there showing them rather than make a phone complaint where they can just insist im wrong again. Side note: my wife opened up the box to pour it on a plate for me, she knew immediately they again messed up only my part of the order again and started to apologize for them again. She just said "well it figures" I just want them to have some quality control still, care about the customers who provide the money they live on, and if they make a mistake, they should admit it and do something to make it right. I hate to write anything negative about Jade because our family does really enjoy their food. We used to be far more frequent customers when we lived closer to Jade. This 1 star rating is purely a reflection of their customer service. I have checked my odometer and verified we live just a click over 2 miles from the restaurant. I can't get them to deliver...apparently because we are out of delivery area. As recently as December, 2017, a picture of their menu on Yelp states they deliver to areas within 3 miles of their location for $1 or $2 within 4 miles. I called a few nights ago because I was feeling under the weather and wanted their food delivered. I know my son previously had to take them to task on their delivery criteria. They reluctantly delivered at that time; when they delivered our food, they even stated it won't be a problem going forward. Granted, it has been several months ago since we last had delivery. When I gave my address, and after an awkward long hold while they "checked", I was told they don't deliver. I said my son went through this a few months ago and to look up his phone number. Surprise (smh) no record of his order. Then they stated they don't deliver north of Alameda....I wasn't feeling well and didn't even wrap my mind around the fact we are NOT north of Alameda. I have prided myself on emotion free reviews but felt like this warranted a little sass. I don't know what the problem is, but if Jade Cafe's printed menu doesn't specifically restrict its' delivery area, then what's the actual issue? Delicious and friendly! We ordered delivery sweet and sour chicken (sauce is tasty but I like it thicker), fried calamari, seafood combo, and crab rangoon. Best calamari I've had, hands down! The chicken, seafood, veggies, and rice were all super delicious and good portions. After reading all the great reviews, I am very disappointed. Not only was the food atrocious, but the employees were as well. We ordered wonton soup, orange chicken, cream cheese wontons and snap peas with water chestnuts. The only "alright" item was the cream cheese wontons and that's not saying much. The orange chicken was disgusting it was one big clump of chicken and didn't even come apart... that is not okay. I took one bite and couldn't even swallow it. I threw it away so quickly I couldn't even take a picture to show how bad it was. The snap peas with water cashews were marinated in some smelly, brown watery sauce and they were just subpar. Here's the WORST part of it all.. the wonton soup was so hot, the top of the container melted and there were plastic pieces in my soup and the soup leaked all over the bag. Completely inedible and not okay at all. I called and from the minute I called there was issues; the person on the phone kept interrupting me, saying what what what after everything I said and barley gave me a chance to explain myself. I told them very nicely I don't like writing bad reviews, let's resolve this. I spoke with the owner/ manager after speaking with two other employees who 1. Didn't understand my situation after explaining many times the food was gross and plastic bits were melted and 2. They said they will give me a full refund, then changed their mind to "oh we can only give you a refund for the soup, AND you have to come back to the restaurant and pick the money up, but before I could even say yes to that, they hung up on me. I even drove 20 minutes to try this food. After he hung up I called back and I told him I was far away and couldn't drive there in time because I was far away and really? They're going to make me drive 20 minutes each way for a $5 cash refund on my soup (even though I paid w credit card). I really tried to enjoy the food but I spent $30 just for my boyfriend and I to throw the food away and went to bed with empty, upset stomachs. I hope no one else has an awful experience like I did. I am thoroughly disappointed in the food that we ordered from them tonight. We really wanted Chinese food and looked at what was in the area. The one that came with the highest star ratings was the Jade cafe. Well to say the least it was horrible. We ordered sesame chicken that was so dry it wasn't edible and had so little sauce on it wasn't worth the 9.00 dollars I paid for it. We also ordered egg rolls that oddly enough had beef in them. Which is not advertised on the menu. I called to complain and the kid who answers the phone told me they buy them pre packaged. And then didn't offer to refund us or anything. Decent Americanized Chinese food. I ordered the sweet and sour shrimp combo plate, fried dumplings, and pork lo mein for delivery. The food was delivered fast, but that could be because I was only a few blocks away. The combo plate came with fried rice and an egg roll. The egg roll wasn't that great and the fried rice was just plain rice stir fried in soy sauce, but I did enjoy the shrimp. The lo mein was packed with pork and was very tasty. As for the dumplings, I found that it had too much ginger for my tastes and the dipping sauce tasted a bit wonky. Jade Cafe is a great place for affordable Chinese food. The interior is small, I believe there are five tables altogether, so it is not conducive to eating in with large parties. They seem to do a great carry out business and have delivery for orders over $10. The hot and sour soup and Kung Pao Chicken are delicious. The dumplings are alright, They are well-filled, but a bit bland without the dipping sauce. The service is good and fairly quick. The staff are always friendly and helpful when placing orders, and often remember repeat customer. The food has always tasted great, and the prices are very reasonable for take-out. I came here due to my dad already trying out this place. As a result, I've always been curious about the food here. I tried the orange chicken, which I always enjoy to eat, and this place definitely has some delicious orange chicken. The chicken is exceptionally crispy, and I love eating something with a good crunch. However, I'm aware that some people aren't fond of orange chicken being too crispy, so that's just something to look out for here. But something that would be a shame to pass up here is the Lo Mein. The chef cooks it so that it comes out piping hot, which I don't experience a lot when it comes to Chinese food. Not only that, the Lo Mein's flavor is very pleasant to the tongue. It would be something I'd recommend for someone visiting here. A couple of downsides would be that the fried rice that comes with the orange chicken can be a bit dry and the orange chicken sauce can get a little too sweet. Wow. This is by far the worst Chinese food I've had in a long time. The fried rice was just white rice with soy sauce already on it... no vegetables, no eggs, no nothing but rice and soy sauce. The egg drop soup is a toxic neon yellow color, again with nothing in it but gelatinous broth and egg floaters. The hot and sour soup tastes like plastic and was neither hot or sour. The chicken chow mein was not flavorful and had wonton crispies in place of actual chow mein noodles. Super disappointing. read more
