We loved the old diner, and are so happy they reopened. My family loves going there. Food is good, but nothing really special. The other popular diner in town, which is way closer, has awful food, IMO, so good food is great. The new owner can be a little grumpy sometimes, but they treat the kids great. I pulled up to this place and was confused and asked myself "where the diner?". The outside was in a strip mall but when I walked in the door it was so awesome and brought me back to grade school (don't judge a book by its cover). Not only was the decor cool but the food was great. The wait staff was attentive and was something a lot of diner aren't... CLEAN! I order the pork roll egg and cheese which was filling and served with a mountain of potatoes (not those skippy burnt shoe strings) real hearty chunks of home fries. The sandwich had 4 thick slices on pork roll layered with eggs in between them. The people I were with all enjoyed their meal too and I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area. This was the worst breakfast I have had in years. The OJ was brown tasting like it was in the fridge for months, the hash brown potatoes were cold & tasteless, the avocado toast - bread was soggy, the avocado was over ripe, the shell of the avocado was mixed in the spread on the toast, the egg was like rubber. Nothing looked fresh not to mentioned the waitress was extremely unfriendly. Would not recommend this diner to anyone ever!! read more

The ambiance and decor are awesome. Wait a minute, this is a diner, right? So what's so hot about decor in a diner? First it's located in a strip mall at Jackson Crossing. Not a typical spot for a greasy spoon diner. Not the location and it's not greasy. What they did was completely build it as a retro 50s diner complete with bar stools, stainless steel walls, memorabilia, formica tables and period seating. It all works and it takes you back (if you can remember) to those innocent halcyon days. When you walk in you notice how bright and clean it is. They must completely scrub the dining room down daily to keep up the look. No lethargic short order cook with a cigarette dangling out of his mouth, nor a soporific waitress can be found. Everyone from the hostess to the bus staff were friendly and actually looked like they enjoy coming to work. I didn't study the whole menu as we stopped in for breakfast, but they serve normal diner fare with a lot of specials daily. I ordered a pork roll, egg, and cheese on a hard roll; it was excellent. Prices seemed fair to me. No complaints at all and service was excellent. Recommended! read more

We stopped in for lunch last Saturday. We had three very different meals, a breakfast platter, mango and salmon salad and a burger with fries. Since they've opened I've eaten at the Jackson Diner quite a few times with my mom, and other family members. They're not far from my parents home. Today I came alone. I was overdue for a much needed diner food / comfort food morning in my life. And you can't go wrong with this place! I really enjoyed my Coffee, Medium Scrambled Eggs wth American cheese, Bacon, Home Fries & Wheat Toast. I actually brought a book, but I never looked at it. They have a TV and I of course had my phone...but with all the Old fashioned Diner decor, old time signs, wall murals and memorabilia all around, by the time I looked around, my food had arrived. So you've got to know what to order here. Look, don't order anything exotic. We have been here several times and our experiences vary. In our latest visit, we had a mixed bag of good and bad. I ordered a crock of French onion soup and my wife had a side salad she had ordered with Cesar dressing. It was not cesar, and they insisted it was. So they brought her some Bleu cheese instead and that was ok... They used rye bread in the French onion soup. The soup itself is tasty but the rye ruins it for me. My gyro was tasty. My wife's fish was not fresh. Her sides were fine. My son's bacon and cheese omlette was acceptable but not outstanding. Desserts were rice pudding and coconut cake, and both were fine. When I related this to the manager/cashier, her response was " I hope it goes better next time..." reallly? You're THAT confident we're coming back? Ok then....... read more

The diner is open under new ownership. My family and I went in there this evening for the first time since the Zimmerman's shut the place down over a year ago. This has been our favorite diner in the area for several years. Portions have always been generous and quality of food perfect and prepared perfectly. Today I Hope was an exception because the meals had were far from good. Turkey dinner was served with delicious turkey and tasty but too soft stuffing and the baked potato was actually rotten and Brussels sprouts very very overcooked and mushy. Coffee was good and fresh and our waitress was friendly and accommodating. There were very few customers at the time we dined however the meals took exceptionally long to arrive. Had cravings for omelettes and they were perfect. Fluffy and pan made, which isn't always the case. Another 'diner' in Jackson makes them on the flattop and eggs are rolled up after they're done cooking. Not as good as pan made. Service is great. People are friendly. Diner is clean! This used to be one of our favorite 2 diners, even though it was a bit far from us. So we were glad that it finally re-opened with new ownership. We've been there a few times since it re-opened, and it's not quite the same, unfortunately. This was the 2nd time I wanted to order fried chicken and was told they were out of it. Really? Again? Although the fried shrimp I substituted for it was fine, if not a little overcooked, it was still disappointing that they were again out of fried chicken. My wife ordered the 3 slider dish, and said they were bland with no taste. And the way they now calculate the bill is very annoying, because they only give you the total based on paying with a credit card which now includes a surcharge. Since we almost always pay with cash, you're left with trying to re-calculate the bill removing the surcharge. At this point, you don't know if you're paying the correct amount or getting ripped off. It would be much easier and straight forward if the check just included 2 amounts, a cash amount, and a credit amount, instead of playing these games. However, the last straw was looking at the bill and getting charged for 2 "soft drinks". The "soft drinks" were 1 diet cola, and 1 glass of ice water. So Ice water is now a soft drink and costs $2.50? Just outrageous. I've never seen such a thing. As a result, I think it's safe to say we won't be returning...Very disappointing... read more

Breakfast is great, but the rest of the food is gross. Dry tasteless roast beef, supposed to be a french dip, with crunchy, overly fried greesy fries. Literally, the entire sandwich had no taste. My husband ate a few bites of his sandwich and left it. Mozzarella sticks tasted like they were the farmrich band from your freezer. And don't forget to check your bill. The 1/2 off appetizer special and 10% off the check wasn't honored. They fixed it, but the waitress claimed we refused the 1/2 off price. Um, ok there genius. This would be a 1 star if it wasn't for Kennedy our waitress and the hostess. They were beyond friendly and a great reason to try this place. As for the food......3 out of the 4 items we tried were meh at best, one was not even edible. Having grown up eating at diners, I always try 1 of three things-A Burger, Chicken Parm or an omelet. This time I got the Chicken Parm, my middle son got the burger. My wife got a white board special, Beef Stroganoff and my youngest got the kids hot dog. My wife's Stroganoff was salty and resembled goulash or stew without veggies more than stroganoff. The first kids hot dog came out burnt, the 2nd one was better but had no taste. The Chicken parm had burnt ends and was very salty. The only good of the meal was the burger, while not medium like requested, it was juicy and delish. The pickles were also good! Oh and the chicken noodle soup was very good! The fries were those "coated" fries and I am not a fan. We will not be returning wish so many other choices around, there is no reason to risk it. I recently moved to Jackson, NJ from RI and am SOOOOO glad I found this place. It is my go to restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their breakfasts are sooo good and soooo filling, that's the only meal I need for the day. Lunch and dinner portions are soooo large it takes me two days to eat it. Things I've had that are great:The burgers for sure. So juicy, cooked perfectly; the Salisbury steak (except I had it Priscilla-style - brown gravy with sauteed onions). Mashed potatoes are real, not glue-y, just yummy. The turkey dinner is better than I used to have at my in-laws on Thanksgiving. One of my favorites is the Country fried steak - so bad for me...so good tasting. My friend from the south who came to visit swears the biscuit and sausage gravy reminds him of home. Serious compliment from a southerner. I haven't tried the desserts, but they look super-delish. I always sit at the counter and have Priscilla as my server. She's super friendly and always makes me feel welcome (I'm a solo diner). Great spot! Highly recommend! read more

This diner is a great place to go with your family if you are really hungry. The portion sizes are incredible, the staff is friendly, and the place is very clean. It is pretty pricy for a "diner", but you always get more here than you would at a dive diner on Route 9. So, that makes it worth it. The menu is quite extensive, there are specials for every weekday, and the place itself is done up in 1950s décor and is very clean. Staff is usually quite helpful and friendly. We don't get to go here often, but each time we do, we have always had a great experience. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because of the prices. Updated Review: As always, it is not easy to get a seat at this place. Always jam packed, but they do the best they can. Went for breakfast yesterday with my friend who I don't see all too often. Obviously, it was a Sunday, so I am sure they were eager to get us in and out. Food came out a little slower than I was used to. Ordered eggs benedict, and one of the eggs was way overdone, but the other ones were fine-nice & runny! Our waitress checked on our table often, even more so once we had finished eating and just wanted to chat. We felt bad that we stayed an extra 35 minutes, but we were caught up in conversation. The service is over the top and the waitresses are the best I ever experienced always friendly and reassuring they want you to enjoy your meal . Went out for a quick dinner with my wife to this diner and was very pleasantly surprised. I honestly didn't expect anything more than a typical diner for senior citizens (no offense old people). What we found was a diner that reminded of the awesome San Francisco chain Mel's Diner. Totally had the classic all American diner feel. My wife had a chicken quesadilla which was huge and I had the Pop's special - country fried steak in sausage gravy. Was blown away out how good the gravy was and how crispy the steak came out.
