I had a great experience here. I brought in a sport coat that had a nasty stain on it...some sort of combination of wine and steak juice! When I went to pick the coat up, the stain was still clearly visible. They offered to clean it again for free. I returned to pick up the coat, but the stain was still there, albeit more faint. Again, they offered to have it cleaned again on their dime. I took them up on the offer, and when I went back for the third time, the stain had all but disappeared. The product use to clean my clothes are safe for my family's health and environmentally friendly too! after today, i won't return to jackson cleaners ever again. two weeks ago, i dropped off my winter coat there to be cleaned. i paid $16.50. the owner told me that it would be ready to pick up on saturday. saturday i go to pick up my coat. she says that her husband couldn't clean it yet because it is a light color, and they need other light colored items to clean it with. she tells me to come back on friday, november 16. this morning, i show up. they now tell me that because it has metal toggles, they can't clean it without my permission. TWO WEEKS AFTER I PAID, YOU SUDDENLY NEED MY PERMISSION?? my phone number was on the slip, as well as my address. they could have called me. when i calmly asked why they didn't call me, i got silence and a smile as a response. turns out, after talking to my neighbor, they never call customers and are notorious for delaying. i asked for my money back and my coat, which were both handed to me in a crumpled pile. don't waste your time here. go to blue bell cleaners instead. they charge $13.50, are friendly, and have a drive-thru for your pickup and drop off needs. read more

I got a suit tailored here and it came out GREAT. For starters the suit I got was supposed to be slim fit and it was regular. The woman was great, She altered the suit and made it just that. The thing I love most about Jackson Cleaners is that they are always open- much better hours than other tailors/dry cleaners in Melrose. As stated in another review, the owners are absolutely charming and very pleasant to deal with. I have not had any problems with their product, in fact they did some original hems on some high end jeans and they look fantastic. All my work has held up. We mostly use them for alteration, but haven't had any issues with the cleaning, either. read more

I rarely review businesses on Yelp, but after a terrible experience at Jackson Cleaners, I can't afford not to write a review. After a year of loyal patronage, patience for their delays, dealing with no phone calls, and being told to "get out," I'm finally deciding to leave this review and take my business elsewhere. Read below for the whole story. I moved to Melrose more than a year ago and had to find a dry cleaner for suits, tailoring (I'm 5'2" so nothing really fits me without a little alteration), and things of that nature. i prefer to shop with local businesses so after reading reviews and meeting the seemingly nice husband and wife team, I decided to give them a try. Throughout the year, I had them alter and dry clean suits, fix tears, sew buttons back onto clothes, etc. Most recently, they stitched up a blouse for my wife, sewed a button back onto a pair of shorts, and dry cleaned two winter coats. I dropped off the order on 6/4/2012 and was told it would be ready on Saturday. I returned a few days later than instructed and while the blouse and shorts were all set, the coats had not been dry cleaned. The wife said something about having to send them out and waiting until they had more coats to send (or something along those lines) and that they would be ready the following Friday. I returned on Monday, again a few days after when they would've been ready, and was told that they STILL hadn't been done, but that she'll make sure her husband has them done within the week and that they'll call me when they're ready. If you've ever been to the shop, they don't like to call their customers (although they've made that promise to me several times and never followed up). More than two weeks went by and without a phone call, I finally returned to get my coats back and have them refund my money (they charged me for the jackets, shorts, and blouse when I dropped them off) and low and behold, the coats had been cleaned, but no phone call as promised. When I asked about the phone call, the wife simply responded with a smile, head nod, and "yes." And when I mentioned them having to send the coats out and about why it took them a MONTH to dry clean TWO coats, she continued with the same smile, nod, and "yes" but then added that they don't send out the coats and that they dry clean them in-house. Well if you clean them in-house, then why did it take a month? And why did you TELL me on two occasions that you DO send out the coats and that the initial delay had been because you were waiting for more heavy coats to send out so you weren't only doing two? No apologies, no explanation, no semblance of customer service. We had experienced other delays and other no phone call situations so when I explained my frustration and that they're going to lose me as a customer, the husband yelled, "get out." This happened yesterday so it was 90 degrees outside and I decided to walk down to the shop with my 20-month old daughter in tow (who I had brought with me several times) and they had no problems yelling at me and demanding that I leave in front of her. I'll never be going back and I'd advise you to stay away if you don't want to deal with a rude husband and wife team who takes no pride in dealing with their loyal customers. I could easily have gone to Anton's or Zoots (or another local business), but I chose to take my business to Jackson Cleaners and this is how they treated me. No thanks! read more

I have been a loyal customer for 11 plus years. I love the owners, and look forward to seeing them every weekend. They are reliable, hardworking and honest, and my clothes are always beautifully cleaned and pressed. Alterations are always done perfectly, in fact, Yen knows my size without having to take measurements- they just make my life so much easier, I don't know what I would do without them! And the prices are very reasonable, and also love that their dry cleaning process is eco friendly- could not be happier with their service! read more

The owners of this little shop are so sweet. I bought a suit at Ann Taylor and it arrived 2 days before my optometry school interview. The moment I tried it on, the jacket was too baggy. I was worried. I called a friend who recommended me to Jackson Cleaners. It was late in the afternoon and my interview was in a day or so The lady calmed me down, got to work on pinning and fitting the suit on me, and told me to come back tomorrow for a final fitting. It fitted perfectly on the try in! I'm very happy about the fit of the suit. It was nicely cleaned and pressed and I felt confident. Honest and hardworking people here at a reasonable price. I have been using Jackson Cleaners for dry-cleaning and alterations for over ten years now (off and on due to moving) and I have never had a problem or any complaints. As other Yelpers point out, the owners and workers at the store couldn't be nicer; always greeting customers with a smile. I usually get my suits/blazers and sweaters dry cleaned here as well as any alterations on suits and pants. I return to them time and time again because the work is consistently good and I have never had a complaint. All my dry cleaning items have returned on time and clean. My suit lapels have always been correct from here, which surprisingly a lot of dry cleaners I've tried have messed up. Overall, this place is consistently good, with convenient hours. I felt compelled to write this review since seemingly Yelpers only write dry cleaning reviews when there is a problem. With the amount of garments that comes in and out of this place I'm sure there have been mistakes, but I feel like I owe it to this business to tell the other side of the story. I personally have used them off and on since 2004 (10 years ago) and have always been happy with them. I speak candidly when I say that I had one of the worst customer service experiences of my life at this establishment. This is a very overpriced cleaner, especially for the work product. Up until this past November, I had used them fairly frequently because I was new to the area and needed quick jobs, i.e., hems, buttons, etc. However, things changed when I needed a coat shortened and they ruined it outright. Despite allowing the owners a week past the deadline, I went to retrieve the coat on a Friday and the owner said that the work was not completed because "her friend was in town." She told me to come back on Monday at the end of the day. When I returned Monday night at COB, she was rushing to complete the coat and promptly handed it to me unfinished-strings hanging, and liner stitched. I explained that I needed it for a wedding and that by cutting the lining you ruined a nice Polo coat. I am still a student and in the military and I do not have much money so this coat is especially of great value to me. When I said this, the owner's wife and her son said, "it was just a Polo coat, not an Armani." Update: I had to take the coat into the city and pay a decent amount of money and wait nearly two months to rectify the problem. This is a horribly run cleaners and I would avoid bringing your garments here at all costs. read more

We have a white siberian husky who sheds ALOT......today I went to Jackson Cleaners to get a wool coat cleaned, and zippers replaced in 2 sweat jackets. I could not believe it when the women at the cleaners told me they could neither clean the wool coat nor replace zippers in the other 2 items....WHY????? Because they had DOG HAIR ON THEM!!!!!! Wouldn't have brought my dresses here had I remembered the disaster my mom had gone through with these guys years ago where they made a mark on her dress worse then when she had brought it in, which she pointed out to them when she dropped off the dress. They then proceeded to lie to her face, claim she made the stain, and never pointed it out to them. I've never seen my parents angrier with a service in my entire life. Regardless, I brought 2 dresses in for tailoring for myself. Holy pricing. I felt gut punched when I walked out seeing that I would be paying $120 for two garments, after the woman asked me how much the dresses originally cost (which may or may not have anything to do with the pricing...). At the time of my drop off, I saw a woman come in who was picking up her own clothes before a trip, only to find out hers were not ready yet when they told her they would be. She had to leave for her trip without her clothes in hand. But back to me... The woman asked when I needed the dresses by (about 2 weeks) and she said no problem, she'd have them ready in a week. After seeing the other woman come in, I was worried about the timeline, but felt a one week buffer would be ok. Sure enough I picked up my dresses when they were supposed to be ready. The work was good. I had work done on some lace overlays that looked wonderful. I still regret shelling out what I did for the work, but the job was definitely done and done well. What I wish happened there was more care and attention to how the dress fit. The woman was in a rush it felt. She asked me what I wanted taken in and I told her, but some advice or suggestion would've been helpful since I am no seamstress myself and have no idea where dresses should properly be taken in. She was also a touch cold and a little hard to understand, but if it means good work, that's fine with me. Another plus about this shop are the hours and availability. They were open with more flexibility then anyone in the surrounding area, and also picked up the phone when I called which ultimately brought me in. For pick up I was so nervous because there are no posted hours so I was hoping I was understanding the woman correctly when she listed the hours to me. Can't complain about this place. The work was well done, although it's been about a month and I still feel the gut punch of the price. Convenient but I'd proceed with caution if there are tight deadlines for your clothes. I probably won't go back for the sole story of my mothers experience years ago and her promise to never return, however for anyone who is not as personally effected (yet), needs a job done, has a busy schedule, and is looking to have work done on a difficult material executed well, this place will do the job if you're willing to pay for it. read more

Started going to this cleaner due to its easy location and I would always see the lady working inside working away at her sewing machine. I took a few suits inthat I needed to be altered that same day. She was very accomodating and got them done and back to me within a few hours. After a few weeks the stiching of the cuffs started to pull away. Not a huge deal given how fast she got them to me. When I went back with some other alteration items that were "no rush" the results were the same. The final sraw was when I went back to have her fix the shoody repair work for something I had just picked up the DAY BEFORE - she asked me to product my ticket and without the ticket she refused to help me. (Now she knew who I was and I had just been in the day before to pick them up from her) What was worse was her whole demeanor towards me as soon as I asked her to fix the problem - she was basically yelling at me the whole time. Stiching comes out once and a while, thats not a big deal - with Jackson Cleaners, however, low quality work appears to be the norm. If you cannt stand behind your work - even for a $7 heming, and have to hide behind the "show me your ticket policy" - that is a terrible way to operate a business. read more

So very overpriced- and they always do a rushed and messy job. The woman who works here doesn't even pretend to listen when you try to explain what you want, then she zips through the jobs as though she can't wait to be done rather than caring about what she is doing. They can only handle the most basic sewing jobs- they even do a messy job hemming a pair of pants and have the gall to charge $16 dollars for it! $16 for hemming when the place on Lebanon St charges less than half of that- and does a better job. Now if they were excellent tailors it might be worth it- but not for what you get here. I have gone here 3 times because the location is convenient but after one just OK experience and 2 very negative jobs I am done. These people did a miserable unprofessional job on shortening a lamb's wool winter coat for me. Plus at all cost remove any fur trim before leaving your garment or you will get a full faux fur replacement. When confronted, all I got were angry denials, and my lovely fox fur collar was no more. My husband decided to take some of his suits here just because of it's convenient location. At first, everything was fine, but then small little things started to happen. Sometimes they would accept a debit card and other times they wouldn't. Or I noticed I was being charged more for things when I went to pick up my husbands clothes vs. him going to get it. I took a dress where the one strap was halfway off, just needed to be reattached and it was $10! My husband recently wanted his suit cleaned but noticed the pant had a rip. He asked if they could clean the suit even though there was a rip and the lady said no. My husband explained that he will take the pant where they can fix the rip for free, but then the lady said not to worry that she will "take care of it." In our minds that meant she will do it for free. When we went to pick up the suit, not only were we charged for the rip fix but was given attitude when asked why since we were told there wouldn't be a charge and now all of a sudden we had to pay up...we would have fixed it elsewhere! Things just seem "shady" for a lack of a better word, and we will not be going back! Just because it's across the street doesn't mean it's good. Stay away! read more
