Chris Fine is the total opposite - nice, wise-seeming old Asian owners in a tiny, tiny shop. Instead of entering your info into a computer system or even taking your phone number or name, the guy just gives you a slip with a number -- I was skeptical, since 9 times out of 10 at a big dry cleaners I lose/forget my slip. I managed to hold onto it, though, and was rewarded with some excellent dry cleaning -- Chris Fine got out blood, sweat, and wine stains much better than Royal White did (really, don't worry about what I do while wearing dress shirts) and turned my dropoff around just as quickly. Not quite as cheap and paper-only accounting takes it down to 4 stars from 5, but it'll definitely be my new local go-to dry cleaning place.

I was searching for years, literally, for a tailor who I could trust to do great work at reasonable prices. I've had a lot of clothes ruined by crappy tailors. The fellow has been tailoring for over 50 years (I kid you not!) and has such an excellent understanding of fabric, drape, shape. This compares to other local tailors who have 5-10 years experience. His eye for style and fit is complemented by his wife's perspective- if you get something tailored, make sure both are there to give input. The only catch is that about 10% of the time an alteration may not be ready at the agreed upon date. Plan accordingly- it's worth it. I'd been "saving up" my clothes that need alterations for years before finding this team, and have now spent at least $350 on over 25 pieces in the past year. Every penny was worth it- now my clothes fit brilliantly!!!

I moved to Medford around 2005 and used another cleaner just a few steps closer, but the cloths seem to come back dirtier than I dropped them off. Grace is different. Everything is fresh and really clean. Buttons are fixed, hemlines fixed and they even grabbed my laundry bag to clean it too ... free of charge ... just for good customer service. If you care about your cloths, you will have a hard time finding equal service anywhere. A real highlight in Medford Square!

He walked over the day before they were due to be ready, just to see if they were done early. He was met with "they'll be done when I said they'll be done." I rang the bell several times, called out, and a few other customers entered the store behind me. Finally, I walked to the back to see if someone was there (my thought being, what if someone is hurt?!) Finally a woman poked her head up and immediately yelled at me "for being in a private area." I'm not asking to be treated like a Queen. But basic decency is something I look for in a local business. With so many options in the Somerville area, we'll take our business somewhere else that treats us with a little respect and cordiality.

Their prices aren't the lowest around, but this is a great example that you get what you pay for; I've yet to have an issue with stains not coming out or clothes coming back from Clevergreen smelling of chemicals like you had them cleaned by a Halliburton fracking operation. The one time there was a mixup with my clothes (actually, I think it was the first time I brought anything to this cleaner...) they went the extra mile to make sure I got my clothes back as quickly as possible, apologized for the inconvenience, and took the charge off my bill. On the negative side, some of the comments I've read about the customer service from folks other than the owner (Fashad) aren't totally wrong. Sometimes when you walk in, there's no one at the counter and you have to wait for someone to come from the back of the shop...and that someone doesn't always seem too pleased. When I weigh the pros and the cons, I think the pros win here. I've had so many challenges dealing with other cleaners that I just don't get from these folks. Granted, they're not perfect, but I think they're sincere in wanting to do a good job and, yes, the screaming Liberal in me loves feeling like I'm doing something good by working with an environmentally friendly dry cleaner, so....maybe I'm a little biased....
