I manage the Circle K across the street and my lunch break usually needs to be pretty quick. Jack's fits that. The prices on their combos are great. Everything is made to order and not cooked until you order it. I especially think that, for the price, the quality of the pastrami is really good. Great little spot for fair prices in which the food is at a way better quality. Especially what I usually order which is a pastrami cheeseburger combo or just a pastrami and cheese combo with fries for like 8 dollars. Come here at least once every couple of weeks because I am so close and use to pass this place daily when I use to walk home from school many ages ago. Probably the best hole in the wall, in the world. I don't care for subs or sandwiches or specialty burgers but OMG. Everything on the menu is excellent! The food may look whatevs but it's sure to be a party in your mouth. It is fairly inexpensive as well. I like to order #10 Bonanza which has roast beef, turkey and ham with avocado. I've passed by this place forever and never thought to go. The mushroom lovers sub is amazing. Something about the combination of cooked mushrooms, avocado, cheese, lettuce, tomato and maybe some sort of spread. The hoagie steak sub tasted like bulgogi beef which was a nice surprise. The beef was very tender and the peppers added a nice touch. The onion rings are also really good. Your sub is made to order (no microwaving like Subway..they actually grill your meat!) so there is about a 5-10 minute wait time. But you can call your order ahead of time if you don't want to wait. This is your typical mom and pops. I've been eating here for the last six years, and I come here 1-2x a week. If I move, I will still come back to this place. I usually get the hot or cold subs and fries. The sandwiches 'look' basic but they taste great. I've basically gotten most of the items on the menu. I remember eating here a lot when i was younger and decided to drop by recently to see how things were going now. Sad to say, but either my taste buds have grown up or this place was just disappointing overall. The dining room was run down and crummy, everything was kind of sticky and stained or whatever which REALLY put me in the mood to eat. I had the teriyaki chicken sub (TOGO of course) By the time i got home to eat it, most of the bread was soggy. I guess it helps hide the fact that the bread itself wasn't fresh. I hate sandwiches that drip and this one dripped constantly nonstop from the beginning to the end. It sucks cause the sub lacked any teriyaki sauce or flavor, yet it still drips. No need to get drinks here, the subs will definitely quench your thirst. The woman that helped me seemed like she didn't really care about her job. Monotone voice and straight faced the whole time. Overall, this place just sucks.. Its not cheap, so i wouldn't drop by here if i was on a budget. The quality care of the restaurant and the food is obviously not present. Jack's Sub has been on this street corner for as long as I can remember and I finally went in after 18 years of passing by it's low profile exterior. It's run by a Korean family and the decor isn't anything special: slightly dingy tables, linoleum floors, plastic seats, and tv in the corner. They have about 25 different kinds of hot and cold subs. They also offer teriyaki bowls and various types of burgers. Surprisingly, they have 2 vegetarian subs but I ignored those and went for the meat. I shared a grilled pastrami 12" sub ($5) with my brother. It was divine. Toasted and warm bread, delectable pastrami, a layer of mustard, and a line of sliced pickles. The bread:pastrami:mustard:pickle ratio was perfect. We weren't hungry enough to eat more but I vow I will return. A $6 12" sub made with love from Jack's kicks Subway's ass any time. read more

Yummm!!! The teriyaki sub is bombdotcom. Stopped here after hubby had his driving lesson at nearby Dootson. The place looks like a divey, dumpy place and the glass top tables and chairs looks straight out of the 1970's. Don't let the exterior scare you away, the food is delish. P.S. I love the bonanza sandwich at jacks! I used to go there all the time when i was a kid and loved in wl monte. 15+ years later its still the same sandwich i remember. The bread has a really good consistency and holds up well against all the meat and veggies they put into it. I happily make the drive from LA to Jacks for the bonanza sandwich. :) read more

It's a friendly neighborhood sandwich/burger/teriyaki bowl shop. Granted, it's not fine dining, but Jack's Sub offers a diverse menu containing hot and cold meals for very reasonable prices. For $5.19, you can get their six inch pastrami and cheese sandwich combo, which comes with fries and a drink (one free refill). Most other sandwiches, standing alone, range from $3 to $5 for the full foot-long (the cheese steak teriyaki sounds delish!). Also, their unpretentious hamburger combo is quite decent, esp. since it costs only around $4.50. Lastly, they serve beer! read more

Definitely a hole in the wall place. I've been passing here on my way to work and saw the reviews on yelp, so I gave it a try. To be honest, I don't think I'll be back. Jack's Sub is a hole in the wall, ma and pa store near several residential areas. They have pretty good deals (I got the 2 6" subs, 1 small fry, 2 drinks for $10) which isn't bad. They have a variety of different types of food from a chicken bowls to subs to burgers. Jack's also serves several beers for pretty cheap as well. Not sure how they came up with the concept of combining all these different foods into one though. The parking is along Peck. There's no entrance into the lot from Hemlock. The interior would probably need some revamping as there as there were some tiles missing and rust stains. Since they use glass tables, the tables weren't thoroughly wiped down and had several smears as if they used a dirty cloth to wipe them. Food was just okay. Concept is different compared to chain stores. I got the mushroom lovers and hoagie with fries. Fries were good but nothing out of the ordinary...seems just the standard fries you buy in bulk and fry. The mushroom lovers came with mushrooms, avocado, cheese and veggies, but it didn't wow me. I used to get something similar at my old work that was basically the same thing (except it came with alfalfa sprouts) but I enjoyed it more. The hoagie wasn't that great either. Meat was dry and didn't have that melt in your mouth feeling you should get from eating these things. Price was okay. Overall, for the price, it was okay. It's something different than your normal fast food places. Nothing amazing though. They do have a variety of specials (single, double, family) that would fit whatever group you're eating with but don't expect something spectatular. read more

It's a good place if you live around the neighborhood. Like most local fast food joints there is nothing here that sets it apart from the rest (i.e a signature dish or how items are prepared). I came here to get my cheeseburger fix but did not feel like driving across town so I took a small walk to the inside where the two friendly staff members (most likely the owners) greeted me and prepared my order. I got the pastrami cheeseburger which was delicious and an order of french fries and onion rings so I can taste them. Both sides appear to come from a frozen bag (expected) but they did not come out as greasy as I thought they would. This place looks like your normal neighborhood fast food joint with a little Asian flare. They serve a lot of teriyaki bowls and stuff, but also have a good variety of sandwiches. The mushroom sandwich was pretty good and it was a nice alternative for vegetarians. But the ONION RINGS are the best. They have this like pre-flavored battered taste that I love, which is almost identical to the onion rings that they serve at Pink's. Its a nice little place that has a good selection of food to choose from and get the onion rings! They also serve alcohol, which I thought was weird. They even serve shock tops. read more

This place is an El Monte gem. If you go and try them out you have to try the jacks sub. It's delicious and the bread seems to be delivered fresh everyday. I love their pastrami it's not greasy and very yummy. Taquitos are always crispy and yummy. If you are looking for something healthier try their chicken plate. It's salad with the best dressing ever, grilled chicken and white rice. read more

I've lived in El Monte for 24years and canNOT believe I waited until today to come into Jack's Subs. It had always tempted me but I was skeptical cause it looks so abandoned. OMG the sandwiches are BIG and very cost effective and GOOD, like I cant begin to describe how good. My son got a 12inch meatball, I got 6invh hoagie steak and mom got 6inch teriyaki steak. This place did not disappoint, at all. I'm pleased to say that I've found my replacement for Subway and at a much better price. I'll be bringing my coworkers here as well. read more
