Very disappointed. Ordered the $26, 8 oz filet mignon cooked medium. Steak came out med well with half the bacon burnt off, sent it back. 2nd steak came out somewhere between rare and med rare with the bacon mostly uncooked. Honestly the steak flavor was not very good and after 2 try's to get a medium, I gave up and took it to go. At those prices I expected a quality steak with nice flavor properly cooked. 2 stars for not having brisket although it is listed in the menu!!!! I walked into this restaurant and ordered the brisket on the lunch menu. The waitress said that they did not have any brisket today but they would make some in about 3-4 hours. She asked me if I wanted to order something else. Considering the restaurants this town has to offer, Jacks is one of the best. Delicious home cooked food for reasonable prices. I had the fried chicken breast with gravy, salad, and a loaded baked potato. The portion sizes were enormous! All I can say is don't! It's not so much the food as the steaks are just about O.K - it's the service. I don't like waiting 15 minutes for someone to take my drink order and then tell me they'll be back to take my food order when I've already read the menu from back to front and back again and know exactly what I want to start, follow and finish. The prices are pretty steep too - $20 for a steak that is just about within the description on the menu. Juicy, prime, cooked to my liking? I don't think so... I'm not cheap, but I expect a little more for my money - like what I ordered. The best time to go is early - about 6.30 or so, unless they have their spaghetti special where it's every man for himself and you might actually have to fight some guy for a table. Or they may just tell you there is a 20 minute wait. This is UVALDE for goodness sake and just because you offer a $3.99 spaghetti meal does not give you the right to make people wait 20 minutes just to sit down and only have 2 wait-staff working. Save your money, go to the meat market and get yourself 4 big juicy T-bones and cook them yourself on the grill. Add a couple of glasses of wine and some good friends and the whole experience is what Jack's could be. But it isn't. read more

While on vacation I stopped at Jack's for a steak and was pleasantly surprised by the food and service. It was anything out of the ordinary except that it was in such a small town. The steak was cooked medium rare but was a little to overcooked for my liking. The salad was good but nothing exceptional. I am not giving this place four stars because I think it is a four star restaurant, I'm giving it four stars because considering the area it is the closest thing to a four star restaurant. My 10 ounce ribeye was actually quite good, and I did not need to add any sauces to it. The service was quick and the food came out very fast too. Overall I am very happy with my meal. The Decour was fairly plain and in keeping with the log cabin motif. I would guess it is probably one of the better restaurants in this town. read more

In the process of trying to find something different to eat in Uvalde, we settled on Jack's. Mostly because it's close to the house, but also because I don't think I've eaten there in at least a year. First of all, we walk in and there are only two occupied tables; at 6:30 in the evening. If this place is so good, you'd think it would be packed, or at least half full. Anyway, the hostess takes us to our table and gets our drink order (2 waters and 1 beer) then disappears into the kitchen. About five minutes later, another party is seated at the table next to us. The waitress takes their drink order and within a matter of minutes, has their drinks sitting in front of them. In the meantime, we have to wait another five minutes before our drinks arrive. So she then asks if we're ready to order, which we are. One of my dining companions orders the chicken fried steak, the other orders the chicken quesadilla, and I ordered the hamburger steak topped w/ mushrooms and pepper jack cheese w/ macaroni and cheese and fried okra. Now let me pause and tell you this.....On the menu, it says that because this dish is ground beef, they cannot cook it below medium well because of health issues. That's fine with me. I tell the waitress I'll take it cooked medium well. After a few minutes, the chips and hot sauce (salsa to you Yankees) arrives at the table and it's actually really good. The chips are warm and crisp, and I think the hot sauce is homemade; it has a really good flavor. A few minutes later, the salads arrive. The lettuce is fresh and cold. The blue cheese dressing has a good flavor. And the baked bread tastes good, as well. So I'm thinking that this is going to be a winner of a night out and that I'll be coming back to Jack's more often in the future. Right? We've barely begun to eat our salads when the waitress brings the entrees out to the table. We have to shove the salad plates out of the way so she can make room for our dinner plates. After she leaves, I finish up my salad and start on the entree. The macaroni is awesome (it always has been here). The fried okra, while actually hand breaded, was left in the fryer way too long. It was like eating small rocks. Then I started on the meat. The first thing I noticed when cutting into it was that it was really crispy on the outside. I peeled back some of the cheese and mushrooms and noticed that the beef was burned to a crisp. Apparently, what the cook did was put a grill press on the meat to make it cook faster; which it certainly did. Then he tried to cover up the evidence with the cheese and mushrooms. The first few bites weren't too bad, albeit a little salty. But as I got closer to the middle, I began to notice that the beef was red and bleeding. Which surprised me considering that they clearly state on the menu that this dish cannot be cooked below medium well for health reasons. I decided that I'd had enough of the beef steak, and finished up the macaroni instead. I tried eating a few more of the fried okra, but they got harder as they cooled off. . I was going to give this place 1 star, but the other two people at the table said their meals were completely satisfactory. So I guess that would average it out to 3 stars if you take their five and average it with my 1. Will I eat here again? Not sure yet. read more

Went to Jack's Steak House on 2/26/19. Had heard it was a good place. We ordered fairly soon and received our drinks promptly, then the nightmare started. After 1 hour and 23 minutes, I finally got the waitress's attention and told her we haven't received our salads. She brought them out, followed with plates of cold Steak and sides. We should have walked out but were hungry enough to finish the meal. We then proceeded to the register and gave the same blonde waitress cash. She went into the office for 12-15 minutes, returned and stated they didn't have exact change (I was determined to NOT give her a tip). I left in frustration but should have called the police. Our group of 4 went to Jack's on a tip from the hotel front desk clerk. We went and it took about 10 minutes to get seated. There were several "prom" guests there and they were on their way out. The waitress took our drink order and after 20 minutes never returned. We can't say how good the tea was or if the food was any good as we exited stage left and went elsewhere. We can say this....we will never enter Jack's place again. We were out and about on this fine weekend riding our motorcycles through the Hill Country as we are apt to do quite often. May Jack's get all the business it can, cause it won't get any $ from our group. read more

I love Jacks...the atmosphere, the log cabin setting, the food. I've eaten here many times and never been disappointed. LOVE their fresh complimentary bread loaf appetizer. My kids like this place too! We've done a sm private dinner party in the room they have set aside for such things. Personally, I've had the best steaks in town here. Overall great place to eat...except when they get an unforeseen large num of people and are understaffed...be ready to wait a while, but it's only happened to me once. read more

it started well and service seemed decent. order the tator appetizers and loved them, but my main meal was terrible. I ordere the filet mignon cooked to medium. it was tough, poorly seasoned, cook to well done on one end and rare on the other....I could not beleive how poorly cooked this was. I left almost all of it on the plate. server never asked how it was, never asked if I want to take it with me. it was obvious she knew it wasnt good....one star because of how much I liked the tators...other then that order at your own risk. read more

Stopped here for lunch about 1pm. We had the salmon avacado sandwich and the chicken avacado sandwich and they were both delicious! We had a half an avacado on each sandwich. I travel from Del Rio to San Antonio frequently, and I try to eat at Jack's at least once going, or coming. My favorite is the Feta Chicken salad (I usually get the fried chicken, not the grilled). You add the fresh bread just out of the oven, and man that's good eating. read more

We live about 50 miles from Uvalde, and often come to buy groceries and supplies. Eating at Jack's makes our trip special. We can always depend on being served their warm, homemade bread with lots of butter, If we order appetizers , we usually split an entree, with an extra salad because the portions are so large, We usually get steaks or burgers, which are cooked just right. We recently celebrated a birthday here and were served an awesome chocolate dessert. We love coming to Jack's and since the movie theater is just across the highway, it is the perfect place to start a "date night". read more

I've eaten here numerous times, except for the beef tips, the food is very good!! Service can be questionable. My last three visits were not positive experiences. Two time we had to asks any server that came by for refills on drinks and had to request bread since it wasn't brought to our table. Today they were out of coffee (I'm a coffee drinker) and when I paid, our server apparently felt the $19 plus in change due me, was a tip they deserved. Never asked to bring change, just never came back. Service was good but not that good for a meal slightly over $40.00. Had to hunt them down to get my change. I did leave a tip only because of my girlfriend. I sincerely hope this is not encouraged or condoned by management since this is one of the very few decent restaurants in town that is not fast food. read more

I'm not a big steak eater, I love it but just don't eat it out very often but Jack's has a lot of other things on the menu and all have been great so far. Came here with my wife and ordered a Pepper Cheese steak which is a fancy way of saying hamburger steak with cheese and serrano peppers. Now these usually come stuffed with cheese and serrano or jalapeño with your usual two sides but not at Jacks. For 14 dollars (tax not included) you get a broken flat hamburger patty with two slices of cheese and chopped serrano peppers sprinkled on top with one side not two. I cancelled the salad for an additional side when I ordered and made it clear to the waitress (who seemed to not want to work for whatever reason) that I wanted my pepper cheese steak cooked well done. When I received my food, the hamburger was red inside and not completely cooked. I called the waitress over and told her that I wanted my steak well done and she took it back to be corrected. When I got it back, it was the same burger that I had cut into just reheated in the microwave to complete the cooking of the inside which left me with a very tough hamburger steak. The bill was 32 dollars and change for our dinner. I work very hard for my money and it's obvious Jacks doesn't. If you like low quality food for a premium price, then this restaurant is for you. As for me, I will not spend my money at this dump again. read more
