Have to update my review. Went to Uvalde to get pre-Christmas groceries. Afterwards called for eating at my favorite TexMex in TX. The place is packed on Sunday, but cleared out by 11:30 because the Cowboy game is on at noon. The wife had the ribeye which she said was great. I had the Ophelia special, also good. Today, we were in Uvalde for a football game, and we visited this place lunch. Our whole family enjoyed their food. My husband and I both had Tex-Mex plates. Seriously the best I've had in quite some time. The tortillas were homemade. (Always a plus). We both enjoyed the beef fajita nachos. Our boys enjoyed their chicken, enchiladas, and grilled cheese. Everyone left full and satisfied. Our waiter was very pleasant and helpful, and the place was very clean. Definitely would return if we ever come back to town. read more

Stumbled upon this place while on a westward road trip. As a native Texan, this is probably some of the best Tex-Mex I have ever had. Fresh, delicious, and authentic. This place is amazing , great customer service from Sergio and the food was so authentic. Try the barbacoa tacos they are so good. Plus if you get lucky park under the car port. We tried Ofelia's while we were in Uvalde. For starters, the service was great and the restaurant was well kept. However, as far as the food goes, it was pretty meh, if not kinda bad. The T-Bone a la Mexicans was under seasoned and tasted like a midwestern mom made it, not like a good South Texas mexican meal. My buddies got a chicken fried steak and the huevos rancheros. I won't judge on the chicken fried steak because it is after all a Mexican restaurant, but just saying it was pretty bad. The ranchero sauce on the huevos tasted like it was out of a can and super unflavorful. All in all, if some more spice and salt were added to the food, this place would be awesome, but it just wasn't up to par compared to some other local places. read more

We were traveling back home and decided to stop at this restaurant since it looked fairly busy while driving through Uvalde , Food was mediocre at best , we had a child's enchilada plate, an oyster plate and a bean egg and cheese taco . This with 3 drinks totaled $47 before tip. I don't mind paying these prices for great food but this definitely did not fit the standard. I would suggest passing on this place . read more

Went to celebrate my moms birthday ...party of 13 people....and first we didn't even get greeted walking in ... we asked to put tables together and they said no and told us we can just sit in separate tables!!! We received nothing but stares and awkward silence..we called Julio's and they immediately told us they can accommodate our party and upon arrival we were greeted and seated...definitely do not recommend Ofelia's. read more

Driving from San Antonio to Big Bend, we found this roadside gem by asking at gas station for a good food stop- So glad we did, drove by 2x (looking for a spot for our RV) which they had in the back- Perfect- greeted graciously at door, seated, received excellent recommendations and then enjoyed the best damn mexican food we have had yet. My wife and I both agree that it beat anything we had in San Antonio for taste and price. Highly recommend for anyone close to US 90, definitely make the trip. Exterior has seen better days but parking lot is packed (sure sign of something good) and it delivered. read more

I'm a Los Alamos fan but Ofelias isn't too bad. My qualm with Ofelias is I had migas for breakfast the other day and the tortillas were overly oily, mushy rather than crispy, and everything was under-seasoned. We went back for lunch and I tried the enchiladas--again not bad, but certainly not great. They lacked seasoning and tasted fairly bland to my taste. Ofelias is a decent TexMex restaurant but there are others---like literally across the street--that offer comparable food that tastes better to me. You really can't go wrong with Ofelias though. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. I noticed that locals seemed to go there more often--or at least there were many more people there each time we went. read more

Amazing Tex-mex food! Only open for breakfast and lunch but you don't want to miss it. My favorite items are the Portuguese tortillas and the puffy chicken tacos. Their breakfast never disappoints no matter what you get. It's a busy spot with lots of chatter but it's great for groups and good for children. The food is amazing the service is better! read more

We came here for lunch, and had a burger. Food was decent although the meat lacked seasoning. Portions were good and it came with a healthy serving of fries. Prices were good also, $8.99 for a double meat burger. I'd go back and try something else. If you want a good burger in the area though, Magillicuddy's is probably your best bet. Friendly people greeted me at the door, pleasant and helpful waitress. I went with kimi's special. Crispy Taco, I got a chicken enchilada, and the chalupa is basically beans and cheese but the plate come with guacamole so u can add that as well. Food was good. Chips and salsa is included, salsa is good medium hot (unless your are from up north you'd probably call it hot or spicy) chips are light and flakey in a good way. Stopped for lunch . Was asked if I wanted chips and salsa ! Every Mexican restaurant they are brought out right away. Mamacitas brings out all your eat and two different salsas free , free,free! Ordered 3 chicken enchiladas and sides. The chicken enchiladas were good although not very hot . The two side were a joke I got about two tablespoons of rice and about one of refried beans. The chips and salsa that I was offered they charged me $2.29 for . So my lunch come out to almost 17 dollars for a ice tea chips and salsa and a chicken enchilada plate. When I left I was almost going to stop and lunch at another restaurant because I was still hungry! Really disappointed with the portions and price for mediocre food! Being in Texas and having one of the worst Mexican food in my life is soooooo wrong!! Sorry Ofelia's but I can't take beans with a yellow plastic cheese on them. Spanish rice was mediocre and steak was burnt and salty. Only thing that I enjoyed was the chips, salsa and Guacamole. And who came with the wonderful idea of serving a Mexican Carne Asada Plate with steak fries?? Bad taste from this Texas trip, a shame. read more

We alway eat here every time we stay in Uvalde to float the river. Great for our large family. We like the Puffy tacos and Kimi's speacial. Warning: Wine based Magaritas that are strong! Always busy, but great service. Only open up til 4pm...so plan accordingly...FYI you should probably never go to any restraunt near closing time. It's rude to the staff. read more

We came here for breakfast this morning, after having to take a four hour drive to Uvalde yesterday. What I can say about this place is that the atmosphere is nice, the people are nice, but the food is mediocre at best. I got the migas this morning, and they did not have much on them. They were just mainly eggs with the occasional chip, and very little cheese. We also ordered bacon as a side, but they did not bring us any. The main thing we were impressed with were the homemade tortillas, though. :) Sorry Ofelia's, but we're probably not coming back. We'll probably be going to Los Alamos, or to Stripes next time! read more

Try something different for breakfast: the machacado taco. That's pronounced "Ma-cha-ka-doh". It is a savory Mexican breakfast. It is a dried, shredded beef. It is something out of the ordinary for many. Everything else here is just fine. But if you want breakfast, get the machacado. And green salsa. Get lots of green salsa. read more

A-OK is just about right for this place. We had a party of 9 and ordered a ton of different types of food. The onion rings were hand breaded and delicious. The nachos were decent but the chicken was a bit dry and cheddar isn't my favorite type of cheese for nachos. It tends to be oily and plastic looking. The guacamole, queso, and salsa were GREAT. Large portion of guac side, full of flavor and just enough heat. The chips were nice and crispy and thin. Fresh tortillas are always good. The chicken strips and fries were clearly the frozen out of a bag kind and were not awesome, even my 10 yr old was like "the fries aren't very good". The ranch was out of a bottle. Service was decent. They were very friendly and accommodating but a little confused about which tables the orders were supposed to go to as we had people try to bring us food that wasn't ours at least 3 times. It also took a really long time for my daughter to get her food. About half the table was already finished eating before hers came out. They were pretty busy and the waitress was thoughtful enough to offer To Go drinks without us asking. Would definitely go back. read more
