First time here. Had a bit of a wait. There were open tables, so I imagine they are encouraging some partaking at the bar. I can see why the place is popular. They are all about the steaks. My salad was fresh and I ate it all. Same with that monster filet. Perfectly cooked and flavorful seasoning, it really hit the spot. I'll definitely be back if I overnight in Redding again.

This was our first time trying out Jack's and we for sure will be returning again. Immediately upon walking in we were greeted so warmly by staff. We arrived around 5pm on a Saturday, were put on a short waitlist, and took a seat at the bar in the meantime where our bartender made the most delicious raspberry lemon drop I've ever had. The restaurant was so cozy with its candlelit tables and intimate interior. Once a table was ready we were sat with our drinks and had our salads brought out not too long after. The salad was so cold and refreshing and our steaks came out at the perfect time. We both ordered medium rare NY strips with fries and they were cooked to absolute perfection. The staff checked in periodically to make sure we were doing okay and made sure to bring us boxes when we couldn't finish our meals. For the amount of food we received, the prices were more than reasonable! We will 100% be returning to this establishment again!

Very cool atmosphere at this old place. Very small so be prepared to wait. The bartender was a nice guy and recommended a very good bottle of wine. Good steaks but the worlds best. Just remember you are kind of there for the whole experience. Salad was a bit on the weak side. The waitresses seem like they have been there for a long time. Everyone should try it once.

Still the Best Steak in the World - 40 Years Later at Jack's In 1988, fresh out of training and suited up for my very first day on the job, I found myself sweating through a worsted wool suit in Redding, California--on what turned out to be one of the hottest days on record at a sweltering 118 degrees. A young African American kid from the inner city of Flint, Michigan, I felt completely out of place. My boss gave me one piece of advice before I called it a night: "Promise me you'll grab a steak at Jack's." So I did. I walked into a packed Jack's Grill, and the first thing I saw behind the bar wasn't a wine list or a maître d'--it was bull riding on TV. Bull riding! I nearly turned right around. But a promise is a promise. The host told me the wait would be 45 minutes to an hour--a perfect excuse to retreat to the comfort of my hotel and order room service. But something made me stay. When my name was called, I discovered Jack's had a policy I'd never heard of before: if you were a party of one or two, they seated you with other solo diners to fill a table. Yet again, I almost bailed. But everyone had been surprisingly friendly, so I stuck it out. And thank God I did. That night I ordered the filet mignon--and it wasn't just good, it was life-changing. Perfectly cooked, seasoned with something magical, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. It was hands down the best steak I'd ever had. That night marked the beginning of a love affair. For over a decade, every time work took me to Redding, Jack's was my non-negotiable dinner stop. And when I no longer traveled there for work? I'd still occasionally make the 2-hour drive from Sacramento just for that steak. Over the years, I've had the privilege of dining at some of the most renowned steakhouses in the world: New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Miami, Hong Kong, Tokyo (even Kobe), Montreal, Vancouver, Rome, Paris, Saint-Tropez, you name it. The only place that even came close was a little gem in Rome's Jewish Ghetto--but even that couldn't quite top Jack's. Fast forward nearly 40 years later. I took my father to the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, and mid-track meet, a wild idea hit me: "If we head out right after this ends, we can make it to Jack's before they close at 10 PM." Five hours later, we pulled into Redding. Jack's looked almost exactly the same. And the steak? Still flawless. Still the best I've had anywhere on the planet. Funny thing is--I can't recall what happened on that first day of my now long and successful career. But I remember every single detail about that first steak at Jack's. So here's my advice: if you're ever within 100 miles of Redding and love a great steak, don't miss Jack's. Trust me, it's not just a meal--it's a memory waiting to happen. Jack's isn't just the best steakhouse in Redding--it's the best steakhouse in the world.

A place like this doesn't make it over 80 years if the food and ambience isn't amazing. Classic menu and is absolutely perfect. This was my second visit and was just as good as the first time which was amazing. The steak, salad, exceptionally cooked baked potato (I didn't know that a baked potato could stand out) and the delicious garlic bread was outstanding. This time I added fried chicken out of curiosity and it was almost as good as my grandmas! And last but not least is the incredible service. Everyone is welcoming, friendly and professional; however they made me feel at home. The restaurant was impeccably clean too! I had such an amazing dinner I had to share. I hope you have the same!

Stephanie Foodie here! Stephanie Foodie here!…read more My first impression of Jeff's was honestly shocking. The moment I opened the door, a strong smell came rushing out that smelled like someone had been smoking weed inside the restaurant. My entire party noticed it immediately. Surprisingly, we were seated quickly. Our waitress was polite and took our drink orders. Unfortunately, things went downhill once our food arrived. My hash browns were so hard they were difficult to eat. When the waitress came by and asked if everything was okay, I explained the problem. She apologized and offered to bring me another order. Unfortunately, the second order was even worse. The waitress apparently spoke with the manager, who then came out to our table. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, his response came across as extremely defensive and unprofessional. He made it seem as though somehow we were responsible for the hash browns being burnt and practically inedible. I asked the waitress for the manager's name, and after some hesitation, she told me his name was Omar. And here's the part that really made us uncomfortable: after we left, another person in our party mentioned that she had seen what appeared to be a large joint in his mouth. I'm not going to claim I know exactly what she saw, but combined with everything else we experienced, it certainly didn't leave us with a good impression. Bad food happens. Mistakes happen. What matters is how you handle it. Unfortunately, Jeff's failed on both the food AND the customer service. Needless to say, none of us will be going back. 1 star from us.

We were seated along the large window overlooking patio seating and the Sacramento River. The views are truly lovely. Our server, MJ greeted us kindly and took our beverage order. I ordered a glass of their House White, which was a 2022 California Chardonnay and was quite good. My partner ordered an iced tea. For dinner we ordered the Ribeye and the Filet, both cooked medium. Our food arrived approximately 30 minutes after ordering. The quality of the beef here was absolutely top notch. Prime beef for sure. This was the best steak I have enjoyed in Shasta County in over 10 years. Absolutely cooked to perfection. My partner's filet was massive. This had to be at least a 20 ounce filet and he enjoyed every morsel. The sides accompanying our mains, mashed potatoes and carrots for him and mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts for me, were fair to good, but not great. The carrots were raw. As in, not only very crunchy but cold all the way through. Mashed potatoes were nice and buttery, but not nearly warm enough. These spuds sat on a plate until the beef arrived. The restaurant was very kind in offering us a complimentary slice of cheesecake since we were celebrating an anniversary. The cheesecake was dense and rich and accompanied by berry sauce and caramel sauce, both of which were lovely. Freshly piped whipped cream and mixed berries and powdered sugar on the dessert plate made for a very lovely presentation, indeed, and was most appreciated. Service the entire meal was excellent. Price for our meals: $135 + $27 gratuity for a total of $162. We have paid nearly as much for a steak dinner elsewhere in Shasta County for a meal that came nowhere close to this. Worth. Every. Penny. Cannot wait to try the Brunch Menu. Highly Recommended.

For starters we had steamed clams, calamari and meatballs. For our mains we decided on their Bistro Filet Ravioli, which has Ricotta, Romano, Parmesan, and Asiago jumbo stuffed raviolis, creamy alfredo, chili flakes, topped with their signature pan-seared bistro filet tips. It was amazing. We also had their Ribeye steak at about $53.00. I think it was a 14oz hand-cut ribeye, and it had the best butter on it. It came with mashed Yukon potatoes and marinated asparagus. We will be getting all of this again. We were staying in a hotel so took home some great pasta. The service is great. The food is amazing and the place is just so cute and ever so clean.

I ordered the chicken Marsala and it was so bland I was actually shocked. How could nothing on the plate have any flavor? I added salt and pepper twice and that didn't even help. The vegetables had zero seasoning. The mashed potatoes had huge chunks in them and zero seasoning. The chicken and Marsala sauce, tasteless. I saw so many reviews raving about the chicken Marsala. Maybe they got a new cook because the sauce was basically just heavy cream didn't look anything like other pictures people posted. My husband got the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were very good and had lots of flavor but the marinara was also quite bland and the garlic bread was a joke. It was toasted bread with a smidge of butter, no garlic whatsoever. I will not go back for the price. Definitely not worth it. The fried artichokes and salad were good, but the entree is the most important part and they totally dropped the ball. Very disappointing.
