Jackalope Ranch is an experience all in its own, the staff is wonderful and the food is perfect. The ambiance is that of an old western movie and the space is beautiful. The outdoor seating and the Sunday brunch is absolutely a must. I look forward to getting back to this splendiferous restaurant once this nonsense has worn off and we are back to some sort of sane normal! I've been here 3 times and am not surprised at how poor & slow the service is here every time. The only reason I came back a 2nd & 3rd time is because it was work related and my boss paid for it. The 1st time we came, we were seated on the right side of the bar area at the booths. After waiting a good 15+ min we finally flagged down a server walking by and asked if they knew who our server was. The server told us, "oh, did someone seat you here, there is no server for this section." Great, thanks hostess in the front. 2nd time after we got food, we had to ask the server for utensils which also took awhile, which made our food cold. This along with the rest of the night taking awhile getting drinks and the check. 3rd time we were out on the patio on 5/16/18 (our check says Sonya), our server didn't seem like she wanted to be there. She would skip people while ordering, not refill waters, when people asked her to order more drinks she said she would come back (but ended up being 15 min later). One person was mad because she came back, took 3 drink orders then left really quickly w/o checking on anyone else if they wanted more drinks, which this person who was skipped was the person who told her we wanted to order more drinks. I didn't order another one because I already learned from their mistakes. I didn't want to wait 15 min for her to come back, order, then wait another 15 min to finally get my drink. I also know of a older gentleman who fell in their parking lot at night because he didn't see the concrete parking block. He knows it was his fault and notified Jackalope Ranch of the incident. He asked them if they would at least paint the concrete parking blocks a different color so older people can see it better at night. Jackalope Ranch said they would, and didn't. I don't know what rules and regulations there are for parking lots but I know paint and/or reflectors are super cheap. It doesn't cost that much and it could potentially save future injuries, but I guess Jackalope Ranch can't be bothered with that. I didn't want to write a review for this place but I have experienced and known of too many negative incidents to not let other people be fully informed. Food is over priced and doesn't separate them from any other non steak or BBQ restaurant. They're too busy putting money into the decor and how the outside front of the restaurant looks. This place is a prime example of how a restaurant can act high class, act like they're high quality, & charge up the wazoo even though it is no where near that. Even other people reviewing this place is only giving 2 stars because of scenery. I refuse to do that because if McDonald's had the same budget as this place did for decor and "scenery", then you would all be going to McD's instead for their $15 Garlic aioli free-ranged 100% angus beef patty burger, aka big mac. Jackalope Ranch is part of the Kaiser Restaurant Group. I agree with other reviewers, this place is gorgeous. You can just tell immediately from the grand entrance on Highway 111. As you pull into the parking lot, you'll pass the pig water fountain. Then when you walk under the big outdoor chandelier, you hear the waterfall rushing on either side of you. The inside of the restaurant is huge. Our hostess recommended outdoor seating because the weather outside was just perfect at about 5 pm for dinner. I was wow-ed by the greens and waterfalls. I imagine a lot of nice events could be held here. I have to agree with Yelp buddy, Dani S.. Patrons here are at least 50, wear clothes worth more than $50, drive cars worth at least $50,000, and utilizing valet service for their nice rides. My eating partner and I definitely attracted unnecessary glances walking inside the restaurant, past the bar, and outside to our table.. Food was not memorable. We couldn't use the Costco gift card on happy hour items, which were discounted but not by much.. We ended up trying the fried calamari, chips & guac, and bone-in rib chop. Even the honeydew melon margarita was pretty bland. Rib chop was ok and cooked the way I liked it. Guac was way too lemon-y and acidic, but chips are good. Calamari got boring after the first piece. It came with two sauces, but both were not good. I didn't like the pepper slices that they sprinkled on top. I lowered the rating from three to two stars because of the family of flies that swarmed around us as soon as our first dish arrived. They were in all different sizes: huge fat ones to itty bitty baby gnats. I was so grossed out and swatting them away every 5 seconds. They not only landed on my straw, fork, but also my purse, sweater, etc. That's what I get for sitting outside. Service was not good. Our server didn't know her own menu and couldn't explain most of the items we asked about. She couldn't even recommend the best thing that JRL had to offer. I was disappointed. Outstanding and memorable building design, in/out. Memorable, for sure. It's huge, and has a lot of wonderful things about it. Including, but not limited, a huge bar and patio; live music; and tremendous happy hour. While all of this is worthy, I was unimpressed with the food. Happy hour offerings: ------------------------------ 1. Caesar salad ($5.99) -- good portion, dressing was alright. (3.0 stars) 2. Calamari Fries ($8.99) -- didn't like them at all. (1.5 stars) 3. Our party was 6 eating at the Jackalope last night. Don't bother. We did get in and was seated in a nice booth but our waiter did not really care if we were there or not. Service was very bad. We spend a week in Palm Desert every year and are glad to see Jackalope reopened. The restaurant ambience and patio dining area are unparalleled in the Coachella Valley. They spent millions on the place a few years prior to the pandemic and bit the social distancing dust. The physical facility is breathtaking. It used to be -but is no longer- part of the prestigious Kaiser Family of Restaurants (Hog's Breath in Carmel, etc.) which staffs its operations with top tier, experienced managers. It re-opened, post-pandemic, under new owners with all new personnel and wait staff. There's still confusion with their website and phone numbers. Dinner reservations for a table are a must, but it's got a large inside bar area and smaller patio bar where a couple can enjoy the great atmosphere, awesome architecture, excellent cocktails, and pretty good food. The critical reviews I read can probably be attributed to the learning curve necessary to find, staff, and train the top caliber personnel normally expected at a restaurant of this caliber, particularly with the challenges of finding quality employees in today's employment market. We (party of 4) kept our drink and menu choices simple - and they were swell. Our service was fine, and for those who might arrive when the food service is a bit slow, I'd suggest they relax order another cocktail, beer, soda, or glass of wine, and enjoy the atmosphere of the place - it's the main attraction. read more

We went to Jackelope to give it a retry now that they have re-opened. We went mid-day, 2:30/3:00-ish for late lunch. We were seated and no server came to the table for 10-15 minutes. We finally had a server show up, but she noted that our assigned server had "stepped away" so she would fill in to get us a drink. Eventually a server arrived and we ordered. My husband ordered the rodeo burger and I ordered the steak sandwich. I had called in advance to check if the steak sandwich was like a French dip and was told, yes, it was (which is why we went as I was intent on a French dip). When I ordered with the waitress, I was told it wasn't a French dip but rather a thin steak sandwich. I then ordered the fried chicken sandwich and was told by the waitress that people didn't seem to like it. I then switched to a regular cheeseburger- no tomato and no garlic aioli. Once our order was placed, we then waited and waited for food to arrive. My glass of wine was long dry and no sign of the waitress to check on drinks or the status of our order. When we finally flagged down the waitress- she went to check on the food. The food eventually arrived- my cheeseburger was cooked within an inch of its life (vs the medium that was ordered) and it had tomato and aioli- both of which I asked to remove when I ordered. My husband's burger was missing the bacon (part of the actual description of the rodeo burger) and was also cooked within an inch of its life despite ordering it medium. We called the waitress to express our frustration and she brought one of the managers. The manager apologized and noted he would talk to the kitchen. The waitress added a bunch of commentary including " we've only been open since September (note that's six months) so we're still working to get things right.... " If a place can't master a burger, then I think twice about why they even opened. They were gracious and didn't charge for the meal (which we didn't touch) or the 2 glasses of wine, but we were by then, over an hour in, starving. I would advise to take a pass on Jackelope. We live locally year round so we frequent most of the restaurants in the La Quinta-Indio/Palm Desert area. We left Jackelope (starving) and went to Beer Hunters where we received prompt, friendly service and good food prepared as ordered with no excessive wait time. Sadly new management at Jackelope has not improved any of the ills that it suffered from before Covid. We have taken this restaurant off of our rotation list and advise others to avoid it as well. read more

Oh Jackalope, there really is no reason why you shouldn't be a 5 star restaurant! Your location is everything! Your bar is great, however the majority of your food and wait staff sucks!!!! Trust me I'll go into detail... Atmosphere: 5 stars! This place is spectacular, breath taking! If you want to visually impress someone take them here, the grounds are gorgeous and the interior design is on point! Fabulous indoor and outdoor bar. Bar / Drinks: 5 stars. The bartenders inside and out are great. Friendly and they make a good drink. I'd highly recommend their indoor bar, shows the temp of the bar and like I said great drinks. I'm a huge fan of the Paloma and the "green" margarita ( for the life of me I can't remember the name right now ). Food: 2 stars! Besides the calamari appetizer everything here sucks! Sorry to say but the "amazing wow factor" stops at the view and drinks. Every food dish I've ever gotten here has been "meh". Not worth the price tag attached either. My whole party felt the same way. Wait staff: 2 stars. The two times we've dined in the restaurant booth area our waitresses have been a total disappointment. We had one that literally messed up almost everything we told her and another whom would check on us once every 20 minutes! Ridiculous. The wait for food is just too long, 40 minutes to get our order when the place was like a ghost town on a Tuesday. Crazy to me. Waited an hour for our 530 reservation. Food was cold and under cooked. Sent it back and then it was over cooked and not eatable. Service was terrible and very slow, waiter was asking for our payment before getting our bill. We Asked for our heater to be turned on twice and never was turned on. The desk clerk at our resort recommended this place for BBQ and since it was close, we were hungry for BBQ we decided to try it. It's a huge place and I do mean huge. We got there at an off time so sat in the bar at a booth which was fine. Several TVs for the sports person in the group and a huge selection of specialty drinks. When I checked in on Yelp it came up with a 10% off coupon for dinner, the server said no problem we could use it at lunch. Nice touch which we appreciated. I ordered beef ribs which I so love and you can never get and my husband ordered a half rack of pork ribs. Huge portions, we both took some home, yummy sauce which I promptly got all over my white shirt; and all came on top of a really good cole slaw. Also came with a side of fries which neither of us cared for since they were seasoned with a sort of odd tasting seasoning. Service was very nice and we appreciated that our server made sure we had plenty of paper napkins and when she boxed up our to go left over stuff, she included those. This wasn't a good day for their third day of operations. We learned that 6 people called out. Sadly, it showed: our server recommended the BBQ pork sliders and beef brisket and assured us that neither was fatty at all. Our party of three believed her and put in two orders of the brisket and one for the sliders, plus a Greek salad. Our request for a gluten-free substitution was ignored. The salad was really good, although the dressing could have been more flavorful. The corn on the cob was tasteless. The beans tasted overwhelmingly of chicken stock. The cornbread was the star of the show. All three meat dishes were 30 - 50% fatty and inedible, although the homemade BBQ sauce was tasty. Initial drink orders were filled fairly promptly, but then our server disappeared and we had empty glasses for the majority of our meal. "Happy Hour" pricing is operationally defined as $2 off drinks up til 6 p.m. Don't believe it. It was $1 off, and not on wine glasses either. Our bill was wrong (a drink was missing) and our server took the check back with her to add it, even after all these trials and tribulations. No accommodation was offered, although our server and the manager listened to our experience and said they hoped we would come back in a few months after everything is worked out. Would you? Not worth the $200+ we spent; there are better options with better service/experience. Ambiance appears to be the same as before. If you decide to go, check to make sure they are fully-staffed. As I type this at home, 4 hours after leaving, my stomach is upset and I'm burping up BBQ fat aftertaste. read more

Had lunch here with clients. I'd been wanted to check out Jackalope Ranch for the longest time. I remember when it was being build by the Marie Calender's family who also owns Babes BBQ in Palm Desert. You'll notice the resemblance in the decor (Pig). This restaurant is now run by the Kaiser Group who operates Kaiser Grill, Chop house, Hogs Breath and Grind Burger. This restaurant is huge and located on over six acres. There's a large patio for Al Fresca dinning and a huge beatifullly landscaped area to hang at. For lunch I ordered the brisket sandwich which had a tasty BBQ sauce and came with fries. My customers both tried the Buffalo burgers and they raved about their sandwiches. I've heard great things about Jackalope's Happy Hour and they also have two step dancing on Tuesday's if your into that. Looking forward to the HH next time! read more

We have been so excited for Jackalope to open again! Went to check it out for drinks and appetizers knowing that they are just getting up and running. We were prepared to have some issues simply due to not full staff and bugs being worked out but, we wanted to support them! They have the same beautiful decor and atmosphere which made me happy. Staff was very polite, Gilbert was our server. He did a fabulous job taking care of us. My review is strictly for feedback because I want them to succeed. The Greek salad was delicious but, I had to ask for more dressing. It had no taste but once he got that it was delicious! This salad is huge! Would like to see a half offered because I wanted to try other items but I couldn't even finish half of this salad. The potato skins. They were delicious but they really need to put 4 on the plate. As you can see, it either needed more or a different plate. Husband had the Jackalope burger. He loved it and our cocktails were yummy. We can't wait until they have the patio open. They are working on hiring, we were told they are trying to hire 200 or more people. They also want to offer lunch eventually. We wish them the best of luck! Came in at 6:40 it was my husbands birthday I sent him to take a picture of the really cool motorcycle in the front so I could tell the hostess it was his birthday , she was so sweet and wrote a note to our server.. it was about 15 min before we even saw the server after we sat down , she finally came and it was a bit of a let down , you could tell she was really nervous and didn't know the menu at all which is fine I get it , but stay with us take your time figuring it out with us it leaves a better impression on you're guests.. she just walked away as much as she could Also if something isn't currently available you should let you're guests know when they sit down , kinda like letting them know what the vegetable of the day is so the question doesn't need to be asked . We never got drink refills and I never received my starter salad , thankfully my husband got his . We waited a good 16 min to get noticed after we finished our meals , my husband asked for a coffee she didn't know how to make it , that's ok!!! Just don't tell us that , go get the person that does and take the credit . Anyways my husband ended up ordering his own birthday desert .. I didn't even bother reminding her of his birthday. First time having dinner since it reopened, and we had my sisters birthday day dinner that day. I was surprised at the excellent service and good food. The baby back ribs were delicious! It comes with a side of coleslaw and beans, which were amazing! My husband had the brisket, and he was in love with the tender meat and sauce on top. We had buffalo wings and onion rings for appetizers, and they were pretty good. The onions had a nice chipotle ranch dipping sauce that I liked. The wings came dry with BBQ sauce, buffalo sauce and ranch on the side. For dessert we had the carrot cake AMAZING!!! Overall, I would definitely come back. I think they opened the restaurant before they were ready. We were so excited to see it reopened and then so disappointed. Went for lunch today and the signage said they had a new lunch menu, but they only had one menu, not lunch. We waited 10 min before we got seated and we were the only ones there. We never had a server take our order or even acknowledge us. We looked around and nobody, but one table had been served food. We didn't want to spend the whole afternoon there waiting so we got up finally and left. We were excited about the reopening and we went there today. First, let me say the service and ambience was excellent. The problem I had was with the order. I called beforehand to ask how many scallops came with the grilled Coastal Catch meal. The lady I spoke with said 4. When I received my meal, I only got 3 scallops. I told the waiter when I called they said I'm to get 4. Luckily I asked because he actually had to go fetch another scallop otherwise I would have been short of a scallop. So the cook works there and don't know how many scallops I'm supposed to get? First bad impression. The owner or Manager came and apologized but didn't offer any discount or drink or anything but the food was good. So if you order the scallops, make sure you get 4. The other problem was they didn't give my husband the happy hour discount on his drink even though I got mine. This is a review of my visit to Indio's Jackalope Ranch restaurant this past New Year's Eve. I went to the restaurant with my wife and another couple. Our reservations were for 6:30 pm. Upon our arrival, the restaurant appeared to be busy. We were seated promptly at 6:30pm. We were seated near a waiter/server station, near this station was walkway that led to the outside dining area. Now, it was a chilly night and eventually I had to put on my jacket due to the cold draft that was coming in via the open door. Our server was pleasant and took our orders for drinks and appetizers. Both drinks and appetizers were served in a reasonable amount of time. We placed our dinner orders with the waitress. Both couples shared entrees with their respective mates. Now this is where the restaurant could have done better. To keep it short. We did not receive our entrees for at least one hour. I understand it was New Years Eve, but the four tables closet to us had received their meals, finished their meals and left the location. During this time, I asked to see the manager. Charles the manager came to the table. I explained to him we have been waiting for at least 60 minutes for our dinners. He appeared to be concerned but he never returned to our table to offer an explanation or even an apology for the extended delay. I will add, he walked by our table after I shared my concerns with him, and we still had not received our meals. Not only did he did not stop by the table, to at least give a half ass excuse, he walked past us without even looking our way. Unacceptable in my book. At 8:15 PM, we finally received our dinners and the place was closing at 9 pm. The steaks were good, but the wait and the poor response by the manager left a bad impresssion especially since this was our first time to this venue. read more

No water, no setup. Then sadly, the food came. OK, my husband ordered fish and chips, not cool. Horrible. I got the steak sandwich. Asked for onion rings instead of fries. The onion rings were so hard I couldn't even eat them. French fries had no taste and were soft.. How can you mess up French fries? The manager walked around schmoozing but never asked if you needed water or setups or if he could get anything for you. He is a waste of management. Don't think we would go back for dinner, too many good restaurants in town. They need to get a manager with knowledge of restaurants and willing to kick in to help the staff. Then improve the food. My dish was not, I ordered the chicken pot pie and hardly anything to it had to fish for any chicken very dry no sauce to put on the topping which was a by it self. Our group of 16 came to Jackalope after enjoying an afternoon play. We had arranged for a private room. Even though we got there a little earlier than expected, the staff made it work. Some of us ordered drinks and "Sharables" appetizers. We had the wings & drummies- they were hot, meaty, fresh and very tasty. For dinner we ordered the Jackalope Ranch burger plates that came with lettuce, tomato, cheese, sauce, pickle, brioche buns and seasoned fries. The burgers were outstanding- moist, tasty and very filling. Our servers were terrific- warm, friendly, funny, eager to please. We were a party of 6. Last night of server training. We ordered drinks first. Then he said you only have to 7p to order from Happy Hour in a snotty way. By the time he came back with his trainer it was close to 7p. Most of us ordered off that menu. We ordered some appetizers. All food came out together. Our Nacho's we're cold, quesadilla was cold, brisket sandwich's/ribs Luke was RN. The only thing hot was the chicken dinner. When we sent the nachos and quesadilla back we got attitude. When they came back the trainer said taste those to see if they are hot enough before I bring you more water. Really? At this point we were pissed. Our bill came and they circled the suggested tip and no credit to our cold food. We were here for a large dog show that we come to every year. I can say we will never step foot in again.
