Went for lunch today, ordered 10 wings from the appetizer menu that was priced for 11.99. Got the bill and was charged 15.99. I asked what was up with that and they said there was an up charge for wings for whatever reason. As our boat pulled up to the dock, in front of a broken down warehouse I thought either this is a scene out of a movie where a deal goes bad, or we're going to go and eat at some crazy tiki bar. Thank God, it was the latter. This is a local bar, because quite frankly, I don't know how tourists would ever find it tucked behind a school at the water front. But it is quaint, offering seating in the loudly decorated and colored area inside or waterfront seats, and around the tiki bar in the fresh open air. Either way, it won't be a dull time! People watching and laughing with the Harley riders as you watch a game on the screens is a fine way to spend your Sunday afternoon! When you say locals only know about the place, sometimes it's true and sometimes it isn't. This is one of those times where it is. Nobody pops by because they see the advertising (there isn't any). Nobody sees it while driving by on a busy street. Word of mouth doesn't work either since most are too drunk to remember any specific details. However, if you'd like a tasty lunch or a drink or four in a nice outside tiki bar, I would recommend it. Just bring a designated driver and you are good to go! read more

Thankfully Jack Willie's Original Tiki Bar & Grill is under new management, as the previous ownership had run this place into the ground -- netting it several Health Department and "Dirty Dining" citations. But all of that has changed, and Jack Willie's is back to being an excellent place to hang out on the northern end of Old Tampa Bay. The restaurant and famous tiki bar sit right against the bay, and you can watch the sunset along with the sandpipers, the cranes, the tarpon, and other critters while you enjoy something to eat or have a frosty cold beverage outside under the thatched roof tiki hut. You'll find Jack Willie's right near the intersection of Tampa Road and St. Petersburg Drive in Oldsmar. If my memory serves me correctly, Jack Willie's was originally started by a couple of guys from the New York Yankees baseball team as their take on an old Florida fish house / tiki bar. The back room of the restaurant is filled with autographed photos, bats, baseballs and other Yankees memorabilia. For years this had been a spot to order their crab cakes, grilled grouper sandwiches, or sushi-grade tuna served over a big bowls of greens with an Asian-inspired sesame dressing. And I am really glad to say that the kitchen is back to cranking out some mighty tasty (and thankfully, Health Department-approved) meals. The menu is full of seafood prepared as you like it, along with soups, salads, appetizers, burgers, wraps, sandwiches, and full entrees including steaks and chicken. Jack Willie's is a great place to visit on the weekends when you can sit outside, under the thatched roof of the tiki hut, and enjoy your favorite drink. On the weekends and in the evenings there is a small house band that plays a lot of classic rock mixed with Jimmy Buffet beach songs. Kind of a funky mix, but it's popular with the locals. Don't be surprised if the parking lot is filled with motorcycles as Jack Willie's is a popular gathering spot for people on their long weekend rides. We were there on a Saturday evening after a very filling meal elsewhere, so we found an open table outside and listened to the music while enjoying a few drinks. Great atmosphere the outdoor dining area right on the water is cool, came here for lunch while traveling on business. I had a light lunch which was seared Ahi tuna with a cole slaw type salad. It was tasty and not to filling, it hit the spot. the people at the giant tiki bar seemed to be enjoying themselves, looks like a great local hang out spot. The service was good even though she had just started. The wildlife was nice to watch with the fish and the birds and the signs said manatee's. It is time to upgrade this local bar to a 4 star status despite the occasional presences of heavy smokers and nonsensical drunks at the outdoor Tiki bar. After all, like most of the local folks in Oldsmar, I go to Jack Willie's for its quality food and relaxing water front atmosphere. I doubt I will ever complain about the food here. Jack Willie does seafood right. The freshness, flavor and portion aligned to the best that please a picky eater like me. I even liked their onion rings. A large cut of sweet onion coated with a light batter fried to perfect golden color, then serve sizzling hot to satisfy my crave for decently local cooking. Forgive my finger licking eating manner just in case you see me chewing down Willie's food. I can't help. There are many decent restaurants around Oldsmar offer sophisticate atmosphere for folks after a long working day. For that matter, Willie is probably an outcast where pretentious is not required. This is my second time here! The first time I was here I had a sampler platter that had fried grouper and shrimp with hush puppies and coleslaw. I also got sweet potato fries. This was good but I think my order today was much better. I had a fried grouper sandwich with coleslaw and Swiss cheese on Texas toast which came with a choice of side. I got the tator tots which were crispy and delicious. This was an awesome grouper sandwich! As good as in Clearwater at Frenchy's! I also had a mango pina colada that was delicious. Overall I had an awesome time painting and left feeling content with an awesome dinner. I ate inside so I didn't deal with any smoke that people complain about outside. Thought we would try out this local bar on the water. We started with fried alligator bites but they were very chewy and didn't have any flavor so we didn't finish them. My son had a bison burger and he did enjoy it and said it was really flavorful and juicy. I had the stuffed shrimp and the crab meat that it was stuffed it was a little bit fishy. My husband's fried shrimp were very good though. And I have to say I did order a spicy margarita and it was not spicy at all. They actually put a green bell pepper instead of a jalapeño in it. I'm not sure if they didn't realize those are two completely different types of peppers. Very disappointing. Cute little divey place right on the water. We like to come here to drink cheap and play outdoor games. We used to do some day drinking here and you can watch manatees swim around in the water. There are also a ton of different birds, frogs and crickets to listen to. I know they have some pretty good specials during games. The outdoor bar is the place to be for those. The only thing we ate here were nachos and they were delicious!! The bathroom is small and not super clean but what do you expect for a divey kind of place. The bartenders and hosts are always really great. The bartenders were talking clear across the bar about how drunk they got the night before and how much they had hangovers but, again, what do you expect from a divey place. Stuffed! My husband and I ate here last night and everything was great! From the view sitting outside to the attentive waiter, we were more than happy. We ordered the buffalo cauliflower for an appetizer. It was spicy (just as we like) and delicious. We also ordered the blackened shrimp and the Firecracker burger with the sweet potato fries to share. The burger was huge and so juicy we needed multiple napkins! First time here from out of town visiting family. Service was prompt. We all ordered are food and when it arrived the disappointment started. My niece ordered a burger medium came out charcoal. I ordered the seafood combo for $23 and got 3 shrimp 2 scallops and 3 small grouper bites. They were the size of a small scallop. My nephew's fiancé had a chicken taco with absolutely no chicken in it. My sister and nephews fiancé had ordered a shock top draft that tasted nothing like shock top. The owner came out to ask what the problem was and we were told the beer was fine and that's the way the taco is. He did nothing to try and resolve the problem. Being a former bar owner I am shocked that's how you treat any customer. We are not looking for anything free and will pay are bill without taking it out on our server. For the price and it's close proximity to home, this is a great place. We arrived around 830 on a Saturday night and sat outside. It was busy but not packed. You could definitely find a table or a seat at the bar. The crowd was interesting. It's definitely an older, biker, sort of rough around the edges type of crowd. But it was good-definitely not pretentious and some good people watching. Our server was slow to greet us or take our drink order, but once she came around she was pretty good. We ordered the crab stuffed fries mushrooms and they were awesome. For dinner we both ordered the blackened mahi sandwich. Mine with fries, the hubs with a side salad. The sandwich was wonderful. It was served on a toasted sesame seed bun and the fries were nice and crispy. The sandwich had crisp lettuce and juicy red tomatoes on the side. We ordered an ice tea and a bud light. This place has some awesome food and a great atmosphere. The buffalo cauliflower was amazing. The quesadillas were excellent. The clam strips were PERFECT! (Seriously, get two orders) The reason for 3 stars is simply service speed and cocktail quality. Stick with beer- the cocktails are not mixed well and come in cheap plastic cups. Everything takes a while, but the live music was good, so we didn't mind that much. It was a pain, however, that our server could only "find" one set of plastic utensils for us. We were a group of three and had to share a fork. Now, we had ordered all appetizers, so it could have been worse, but we did have two appetizers that absolutely required a fork, so the three of us ended up passing it back and forth. Luckily, were family. Overall, this place is worth a trip and reasonably priced, but only go if you're not going to be pissed off by slightly below average bar service combined with way above average bar food and music. read more

We found this place on yelp! Older reviews were terrible, but later ones were good. So we tried it, for lunch. Good surprise! Now we go every couple of weeks, for lunch. Came here on a Tuesday night with some friends after hearing good things about the food. Disappointed we couldn't sit outside but that's Florida summer weather for you. You can't go wrong with Fish Tacos in the area, but these were especially delicious. The chips that came with the meal were excellent as well. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals ( mostly fish tacos) as well and both the food and drinks were reasonably priced. I wasn't sure what to expect with the new ownership taking over and practically razing the interior of an old favorite spot, but I think we're gonna be ok. We've lost the pool table, but we've got dollar beer. We've lost some regulars after the initial closing, but we've got flame-licked burgers. The trade-offs at this place are alright with me. On every other Thursday they offer bike-night Jack burgers for 5 buckaroos which pretty much outshine most burgers in the area by simply arranging really fresh ingredients with spot on cooking technique.
