(doesn't even deserve one star)
A GOOD bartender is, yes, someone who mixes drinks and serves drinks, but is also friendly, a people person, and attentive to their customers. Well the bartender last night, Colleen (if she even told us her real name) was anything BUT that definition. My friends and I go to McShea's quite frequently, giving them plenty of business, and we love going there to catch up with each other, but now it is time to find a new place.
Last night about a dozen of us met up at McShea's. Our group was made up of mostly English friends who have moved to America and we had some friends from out of town that we do not see much, so it was a great opportunity to get together and catch up. Colleen did not crack one smile to our group, was annoyed to even serve us, and me being 1 of 3 girls in the group NEVER got served (had to have someone else call her over just so I could ask for a beer). Half the time she was on her phone right in front of me and couldn't even look up to realize that my beer was empty.
At one point our friend had to pull Colleen away from her phone and ask her for a beer and even offered to buy her a drink if she was interested/allowed as a bartender, and instead of declining politely, she rolled her eyes blatantly in front of us and said no very rudely. She then accused my friend that the reason why he was asking her if she wanted a drink was insinuating that he thought she needed one to relax- he NEVER said that, and never meant that. (It's a known thing if a customer orders a shot/drink and buys one for the bartender as well it's usually a NICE thing). Some of our friends were trying to crack some jokes with her to calm her down and just get the energy a bit more positive and light, but she then mocked my friends for how many beers she had served them and continued to have a VERY bad attitude.
Me being the only American in the group, I figured there was probably a culture misunderstanding on her end, so I took it upon myself to talk it out with her. I explained that we just wanted to interact with our bartender and the offer of a drink was a friendly gesture, and me being a bartender and restaurant manager I understand how the whole bartender/waitress process works. She went on to say the reason why she wasn't attentive to us was because a good friend of hers was sitting at the other end of the bar and that was the reason why she wasn't at our end of the bar to serve us.... HELLO! You are a bartender and need to be attentive to your customers!! I tried to clear the air a bit with her, but she wasn't having it. She turned around, walked 10 steps, and started to complain about our group to the other bartender and her friend, mocking me for "being a bartender", saying how she refused to serve us, all at a volume where we could hear her.
I have NEVER had a more miserable, disrespectful, un-attentive bartender in my life. I was embarrassed that we brought our out of town guests to this place. I have also read other reviews about similar situations, and it sounds like the same bartender, and I am blow away that she still has a job- family or not. McShea's was a "go-to" bar for my group, some people more than others in our group, and we can promise you that we will NOT be going there ever again, and telling our other friends about what a terrible experience we had and the lack of customer service. read more
