This is a weird little spot in Ardmore. They pour a generous drink and have a typical bar menu for food. Unfortunately, the food is subpar. Is it my imagination, or do all Irish pubs in the US deliberately serve poorly prepared food on purpose? I have been to many Irish pubs in Ireland and Northern Ireland and all took great care preparing their food. Why can't we do that here? It is a little dark and there are too many TVs around the room for my liking but that may just be my personal preference speaking. I found the service to be okay but it was a slow night so the waitresses spent too much time chatting each other up rather than attending to the customers. At one point, the owner?, came in and started rearranging the bar stock while I was eating dinner which was annoying. In the bathroom were huge signs saying employees must wash their hands, don't drive under the influence, and another one touting the latest lager special. Odd and weird. The place was absolutely dead on a Wednesday night at 6 pm. My food was a bit burnt and rather greasy. The hamburger bun was stale. It took forever to get my food and I was the only customer who ordered food. Three stars for for a bar, one for food, two stars for service. read more

I have been to Jack McShea's a couple of times and really like it. When I learned that McShea's in Narberth had opened a place in Ardmore I decided to give it a try. The menu is small, but everything I tried is very good. The salads are fresh and the portion size is more than generous. The wings are great. My freinds both had cheesesteaks and really like them. Tonight I had the black bean burger, WOW. I ordered, then worried I might get some pre-processed frozen burger thing. I was so wrong. This is a fresh house made whole black bean burger, on a nice bun. It's a little messy, because there is no fillers just beans that tend to mush together, but the spices are just right. It is served with a BBQ sauce, which I didn't think I would like so I asked for it plain and used the spicy ranch my husband got with his salad. It was a perfect match, I would suggest ordering it that way. The server was very nice and we had a good comfortable evening with freinds at a freindly clean tavern. I'm a regular here, and it's the best all around bar in Ardmore, in my opinion. Good food, great beer selection, and Neil McShea, the owner, is one of the best and friendliest guys I've ever met. They have prix fixe specials Mondays and Tuesdays(open mic Tuesdays, too), quizzo Wednesdays, Irish music Thursdays(NOT usually my favorite night), and free, good live music on some Fridays and all Saturdays. Plus, they have 13 TVs all around the bar and a couple in the side room, so it's a great place to watch Football or sports in general. Late night dining in Ardmore... didn't think it would be a problem on a Saturday night, but apparently I was wrong. We were out at 10:30 and really needed something to eat, so we stopped into the one place that was open - Jack McShea's. Unfortunately they only had their late-night dining menu available: all fried food. We got buffalo chicken fingers and sweet potato fries, which were fine, but not really what we had in mind for nourishment. It was disappointing to get a menu with 6 items on it, all of which were fried. Anyway, we decided to just laugh it off and enjoy each others company, until, 30 seconds after we placed our order... the band started up! There was a live band playing music and people dancing, and it was impossible to hear anything the person across the table was saying. We couldn't even hear what the waiter had to say when he came over again! So, overall, disappointing... A circumstances thing more than anything else, but definitely not what we had a in mind when we went looking for something to eat and converse over. I'd say, if you are looking to get something to eat at that hour, just keep in mind that the menu is limited and be sure to inquire as to whether they will be starting up the music anytime soon. read more

I've been here many times- I live within walking distance. It's our go-to place when we don't care about eating healthy- because they have THE BEST BURGER. Seriously. It's so juicy and flavorful and it's served on a delicious buttery and soft brioche bun. The fries (regular and sweet potato) are great too- the bourbon mayo is awesome (if they forget to give you it, ask for it!) They also have a GREAT corned beef sandwich and cheesesteak. The beer list is decent. I don't recommend the pierogi platter- but I'm 100% Polish so maybe I'm biased. If you like Mrs. T's then go for it. I don't like the pizza here. Went for quizzo once, it was pretty fun. Also went to see the live music on Saturday nights, that can be a good time depending on the band. Decent happy hour specials and all-day specials (on Tuesdays, get a burger, get ANY draft for free-not sure how long they'll be doing that one!). They also have parties out back a few times a year that they promote. We actually prefer this one to the Narberth location, where we feel the service has been declining in recent years and it's not being maintained as nicely anymore. But you know, you're not allowed to say anything bad about anything located in the special Narberth bubble so I'll stop there! The atmosphere isn't great- there's some tears in the booths and whatnot, but I don't let that get to me and neither should you. The burger is worth it! read more

By far the best bar in Ardmore! I was fortunate enough to live in the area for a few years and stopped in here regularly. This place is great for any occasion: watching a game, brunch, dinner, or late night. It's always a good time. Food is super yummy. My favorites are the burger and corn beef sandwich, but have tried many others and never been disappointed. They constantly have new specials and a large basic menu so there's bound to be something for everyone. Also a late night menu (cheese fries- do it!). Great for sports games. TVs everywhere. They often have specials or giveaways during the Philly games (I have collected numerous Eagles glasses despite being a NY fan). Quizzo on Wednesdays is also a great time. There's a prefix menu on Mondays which is a great deal for a soup/salad, drink, and entree for $15. Live music on weekends. The staff here are really amazing and definitely make the experience as well. The owner, Uncle Neil, is so friendly and fun. The rest of the staff is great too: Annemarie, Madeline, Alicia, Colleen, etc. They will ensure you have a wonderful dining experience! read more

I thought it would be just a piece of salmon with some potatoes, it was the tastiest perfectly cooked salmon I've had in a long time. With a name like Jack Mcsheas and the orange white and green waving out front you'd expect at least something Irish on the menu, but that's not really the case! Expect huge plates of casual american fare and lots of fried food! The bar was packed with regulars and the restaurant seemed pretty full as well! We ordered the chicken finger snack plate which was about a dozen pieces crispy fried chicken! A dozen is double or maybe triple what you'd get elsewhere for an entree! Even splitting it we couldn't finish it all and since we were heading to a show at Ardmore Music Hall we opted not to take the leftovers to go! What a shame it was tasty and that seemed like such a waste! The service was fast and it was very convenient for our evening plans so we might come back, but given the selection of restaurants in and around Ardmore I'd probably go elsewhere! read more

Had only been here once before and decided to try it again this past Friday night. The short rib grilled cheese is really good, and huge. But other than that, we were disappointed. Maybe they weren't expecting the crowd that they had that evening (busy but not packed), but we weren't checked on once we received our food and I had to flag the bartender down for a new drink. Two tables that sat behind us were never greeted by a server and ended up leaving. My husband didn't look over our check until after we paid (our fault), but we were overcharged for 2 happy hour appetizers and 2 drinks. They were rung up as regular price and not happy hour price. If I could leave a zero-star review, I would. I have been to McShea's several times while in the area, to meet up with a friend. The food is mediocre at best. The drinks are okay, but super-expensive. The bartenders are not usually very friendly or accommodating; if they don't enjoy serving customers (who are polite and would tip well if not for the staff's pissy attitudes), why do they work there?? Worst of all, though, is an overall misogynistic, homophobic vibe. People (both patrons and staff) stare and are rude if you're the slightest bit non-gender-conforming. They whisper and point and make nasty comments. I even heard a rumor that management instructs the staff not to be friendly toward LGBTQ patrons, lest anyone think it's a gay bar. (HA! Like we'd claim it?!) Here's a clue, McShea's: you don't have to be a gay bar to welcome paying customers who happen to be LGBTQ into your establishment and treat them with respect, like you would (or should...) any other paying customer. I've spent literally hundreds of dollars at McShea's, but I won't ever give the place another dime. read more

My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch / early dinner. We started off with appetizers of Perogies with kabasi & sauerkraut and clam chowder. Very tasty. I personally thought there was a little too much pepper in the clam chowder for my taste. My wife ordered fish and chips I had a triple decker short rib grilled cheese sandwich. Both very good. They came out even before we were done our appetizers. The drinks were nice and cold the food was delivered nice and hot. Average price range. Will go back again if I'm in the neighborhood. Service was poor, food arrived and of course we had no utensils...and we had to wait for the waitress, Colleen to comeback so that we could ask her for them. She got my husbands order wrong and my entree which had on the menu that it served with malt vinegar came without it, so again I had to ask. My friends sandwich was on a pre-sliced, dried out, stale roll, my husbands steak was horribly overcooked and he has finished his entire meal before the vegetable that she had messed up arrived. Not only this but both the phillies and the eagles were on TV and we were stuck listening to the best of the 70s! Our dinners were delivered and 5 minutes late the wings came out (looked at good too).... I sent then back.... Mixed feelings on this place: The first two times I went with friends just for drinks and to watch the Eagles. As others have mentioned, TV's on every wall, servers in jerseys, your classic sports bar. But the waitress getting our pitcher of beer took a long time, and come on, it was just a pitcher we didn't ask for 8 different bottles. However, the bar does have an excellent selection of bottled beer. Anyway, we got our drinks and ordered a side of fries. They were good once they came out 20 minutes later, but didn't come with the bourbon mayo they had been advertised with (which was the only reason we really wanted them), and they were basically gone by the time we could get our servers attention to ask for the dipping sauce. Oh well. Then, our server rudely rushed us to pay our bill, I'm guessing she wanted to clock out and collect her tips, but it was only the third quarter and we would have gotten more drinks. Again, oh well. Went again last for a big Eagles game and decided to order dinner too. Since the bar was packed our waitress, who was really sweet but clearly flustered by the busy night, brought us over a complimentary warm crab dip and bread, most likely because it would be a while for the food to come out. This was turning my opinion of the place around, as well as the free Eagles pint glass they gave away to everyone during the game. Free things: always a win in my book. The corner booth we were sitting in was really drafty, and the crowd is definitely not geared toward millennial's, which is common for an Ardmore bar, I guess. (If you're 27-40, this place is perfect for ya). Still, my wings (garlic parmesan) and my friends meals (an assortment of burgers, crab quesadillas, and soups) were all "good for bar food, but eh for restaurant food," which is all you can really ask for at a sports bar on busy night. My issue here was that although I had ordered my wings about five minutes after my friends had all ordered (indecisiveness is a killer), they came out way after everyone else's food, in fact their plates were already cleared by the time mine came! UGH! Recommend: The wings. I really enjoyed the ones I ordered, and they went well with the Troegs Mad Elf beer. Glitch: drafty by the window booths, service is very mediocre read more

Neil & Co, have done an amazing job continuing the McShea's name in Ardmore. This is what I want when I think of your neighborhood bar. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable. They also have an amazing beer selection, for those beer snobs out there. As far as food is concerned, to say they have bar food would be an understatement. This gastro-pub has some of the best food and some I'd never except to order at a bar. Such as duck confit pot pie, The McShea's corn beef sandwhich (my favorite), and their wonderful and constantly changing daily specials. McShea's also hit home for someone looking to pop in for a drink and burger. You really can't go wrong here! Keep up the great job, I know I'll keep coming back! read more

I've been to McSheas a few times and overall I like it there. Colleen and Liz are wonderfully attentive servers and Niel s a real friendly guy. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner and even with a reservation we were asked to wait at the bar for a half hour. We were fine with that and after eventually getting a table we sat there for 45 minutes, no exaggeration, an actual 45 minutes for someone to even come to our table. A waiter did not even walk by our table, we actually felt invisible. We didn't order drinks, get our menus taken, nothing...We watched a family be immediately seated after walking in and then have their order taken after some time. We tried to get the attention of multiple waiters with no luck. Had no choice but to get up and leave at that point. This place is great. Come early to get good seats if you plan to watch football on Sunday. Food is really good (and not just for bar food). I'm always impressed with their selection - even when it comes to vegetarian food (try the black bean burger, even if you like meat). The draft and bottle lists are extensive, so this is definitely a good spot for craft brew lovers. The staff is quite friendly too. I've never had a bad experience at McShea's. read more

Bartender is very unfriendly, refuses service to people she doesn't like. None of the other employees would help. My friends and I won a quizzo there with a 40 dollar bar tab and we couldn't even use it because she wouldn't serve us. She served everyone around us, and found out some of the guys were getting the drinks for us and stopped serving them too. I've since spoken to other women who have had the same experience from this lady. Horrible place. As far as I'm concerned they owe us money. Owner offered to have my friends and I come back for dinner on them, but since this bartender has refused to serve us more than once I declined. She doesn't deserve her job, and I didn't want to eat dinner with her glaring at us all night. Suggestion, if your employees treat your customers badly and deny service for no reason and you refuse to fire them, you are no better. No wonder she thinks she can get away with treating people so badly! Never have I been mistreated from any place of business like this. My husband and I visited this place when it first opened as JR Monaghan's and hadn't gone back because the food was awful. A few months ago on a Wednesday I was walking by and saw the sign outside advertising Quizzo at 9:30. We are avid quizzo-goers and decided to walk over later to check it out. We've been going almost every week since then. All the food we've tried is great--my favorites are the wings and the 3-mushroom quesadilla-- the wait staff is so friendly and always give us a warm welcome, and the equally friendly owner is almost always there. We're huge Flyers fans and it's the perfect place to watch the games. I swear they just added even MORE tvs to the already crazy amount they already had. Oh, and the Quizzo is run in an awesome way. Patrons can sign up to host (they're compensated, of course)! We've hosted 2 or 3 times now and it's really fun and always unique to play. All in all, we think Jack McSheas is a great addition to the neighborhood! See you for Quizzo tonight? ;) read more
