After stopping here for some chocolates given as part of a Yelp elite event, I realized I hadn't updated my review of this place in ten years and it deserves a higher rating than what I gave back then. I've patronized this place several times over the years and have been very happy with the chocolates they sell (Royce brand, from Japan). And the gaufres are a favorite. Aside from the Yelp "giveaway" on my latest visit, I also purchased some other boxes of chocolates and cookies as gifts for upcoming birthdays in my extended family. The women working here were amiable - full of smiles - and very helpful in assisting me in choosing the perfect boxes of treats. The quality of the chocolates is exceptionally high. If the box has the name Royce on it, you're going to be happy with what's inside. As with most Japanese products, the packaging is done with care and presentation is visually appealing. Wow! Only 25 reviews for this wonderful place? How can that be? I was so excited to finally go to, J Sweets. I had been wanting to try their treats for years but never got around to it. Probably because everything is so pretty. It's like when we all grew up with the wonderfully scented and pretty bar soaps that you just never wanted to use. J. Sweets is like that for me. Look but no touching. Weird I know. Not anymore though! Now that I know just how tasty J. Sweets candies are, all I have to say is "GET IN MY BELLY!" J. Sweets is located inside of the Mitsuwa marketplace right at the back entrance into the food court. We arrived around 6:30 pm right before the dinner rush. Luckily there was still plenty of parking available. I was quickly but kindly approached by a lady at the counter. I wish I got her name. She was super sweet, patient and very knowledgeable of everything that they offered. She wasn't a pushy salesman at all. In fact, she made me feel very welcome. She showed me around their small space packed with all kinds of desserts. Although space was tight and limited, everything was neatly stacked so as to not look like a mess. I told her I wasn't sure what I wanted to buy but that I don't like very sweet anything. She had me try a piece of milk chocolate with caramel. The chocolate sample was amazing, smooth, decadent, sinfully rich without the use of excessive sugar. You can tell they use high quality ingredients. What we bought; 1) I purchased a dark chocolate bar without liqueur - after that tester she gave me, I couldn't resist and I don't regret spending the money on it either. Wow. This is one of those things you hide from the household in hopes that nobody finds it. LOL. Jk. Or am I? 2) mochi cream in strawberry shortcake and double mango. I loved them both. Again, you can really tell the quality in the ingredients used to make their products. Next time I go back, i will definitely buy some Hattendo cream buns, some of their other chocolates that have liqueur, and the mixed packs. J. Sweets was such a special trip for us and the customer service was wonderful. We cannot wait until we go back and stock up on treats again. read more

I was at the J. Sweets stand inside of Mitsuwa and decided to pick up a box of the milk chocolates and a box of the fromage baton cookies. I had previously tried cheese cookies from Hokkaido and wanted to buy some. The ones from J. Sweets are good too but not exactly the same. At least they are from Japan. I think this spot has some of the best sweets around if you have a sweet tooth or you are just buying gifts. The staff is quick to explain their wares and give out samples. Just stop by and grab a cream bun or a mochicream! The chocolate boxes make great gifts. Save some room for dessert and go visit J. Sweets in Irvine. read more

J sweets is a cute llittle corner sweets shop within Irvine Mitsuwa that carries many Royce chocolate variants with a few other brands (cream puffs, flat filling crackers, crunch rolls im not doing the best job describing these but hope the pictures help) that's a quick stop for picking up a gift for someone/special occasion or replenishing your own snack inventory! The MochiCreams are delicious! Every time I order a Milk Tea next door, I always grab a MochiCream from J Sweets while I wait for my drink. The Mochi is frozen when you first get them so they recommend you wait 30 minutes to eat them. When you do..... It's just the perfect soft mochi texture and flavor. It's not too strong in flavor, just a nice mild taste. I love it. I've tried the: Strawberry Shortcake, Double Mango and Sakura. My favorite is the Strawberry Shortcake, it tastes soo good! Very friendly staff :) The Mochi Creams are so soft, fresh, and authentic Japanese Mochi. These come frozen, but once thawed in 15 minutes or so, they are ready to enjoy and will be the softest thing you've ever bit into! Matcha is my favorite and my friend loves the Double Mango, but all the flavors I've tried are amazing! Great gift as well as they offer cute boxes available for purchase. read more

Our first time trying Mochi here, so good! They're not that expensive in my opinion and so soft, not too sweet flavors. I tried the peach, cherry blossom and mango. All were so good and lightly fragrant. I'm not sure if it was because we came close to closing but it was a bit off that they gave us the mochis frozen. Once they defrosted and softened though... they're really good, great quality. The service was polite and nice, I will be back to buy more. read more

The Mochi Cream assortment of flavors are unique and they're a great dessert on a hot day. Colorful and delicious, making them a good fresh food gift or as a treat for yourself. They're served frozen so you'll need to give it about 5-10 minutes to get softer before eating. read more

I was at Mitsuwa Marketplace in Irvine back in Oct 2021. Whenever I'm at any Mitsuwa, my go-to are Santouka Ramen and J.sweets if they exist because not all Mitsuwa have them (San Gabriel location doesn't have the restaurants and shops which is a bummer because I live closest to SG). I've been to Mitsuwa in Torrance and Costa Mesa so I thought I try their Irvine location. Anyway, this review is on J.sweets so let's get back to it... I've at least tried 19 of their mochi flavors... my 4 favorite mochis are below. They are my go-to. There are a few honorable ones, but I won't mention them here. =) 1. Raspberry Mille-Feuille (my #1 fav!... just delightful and yummy!) 2. Apple Pie (my #2 fav!... it must be the crunch!) 3. Double Mango (my #3 fav!... a lovely mango... very tasty!) 4. Sakura (my #4 fav!... a nice cherry flavor!) Each mochi is about $2.20 - $2.30. I usually buy 8 of each every time... so do the math LOL. I'm walking out with about $70+ of mochi LOL. By the way, they do come frozen so make sure you place them in the freezer after you get home. You may leave a few out to defrost for dessert. =) Staff was very friendly and service was excellent. Always with a smile. Parking is plenty as it is located at a large shopping center. Give J.sweets a try at any of their locations either Costa Mesa (medium size store), Irvine (very small store and they don't carry my #1 fav... bummer!), or Torrance (biggest store compared to the other two). Small mochi shop located inside the Mitsuwa on Culver. I almost missed it because it's sharing a space with Royce chocolates. I only noticed this Mochi shop because my son loves mochi. Got several different flavors to try - caramel, chocolate, strawberry shortcake, mango, sesame, and red bean. They recommend you wait 15 minutes before eating so that it softens, and once it does... it is really delicious. Store bought mochis don't compare. Soft tender Mochi on the outside with creamy ice cream on the inside. My personal favorite was red bean, and my kids loved the mango and strawberry ones. read more

I usually only come to Mitsuwa for ramen in the food court, so have always eyed this place as I enter and leave, but never tried because by the time I'm done eating, I'm too full to try anything else. Until now... Curious taste buds needed to get wind of a mochi. Didn't even bother to consult Yelp. Kids didn't want any, but that wasn't going to dissuade me. The lady at the counter was alright. If you want mochi, just point, pick, choose. Easy, peasy. Chose the green tea. They are frozen and ready to eat in 15-20 minutes. The thing I love about Japanese desserts is that they are known to be light, airy, and not doused in sugar. This mochi is filled with a whipped cream type of filling. It was almost perfect, like biting into a chewy but soft bread. That's probably not an accurate description, so sorry if my description sucks. read more

I've had mochi before, but this was my first mochi cream. The Black Sesame, was filled with, as the salesperson described, a (frozen) whipped cream; I enjoyed the textures of the exterior mochi paired with the fluffy whipped cream center. The Caramel mochi was more like leche flan, with a thin caramelized sugar syrup center. Each mochi is attractively and individually packaged. Perhaps I have unrefined mochi taste buds, but I prefer the Mikawaya Mochi that I can get at the store. I first had Royce chocolate in Tokyo, and I have been craving for it ever since. Royce is a premium chocolate brand from Hokkaido Japan. There is a dedicated Royce location in New York. I believe all West Coast Royce Chocolates are located inside J Sweet. This is the first time I have seen it in California. I heard J Sweet San Jose carries Royce as well. I wouldn't put it in the same league as La Masion du Chocolat, but Royce is definitely high quality. The selection is small, which could be a negative for some. The packaging is somewhat cumbersome, and the the chocolates require refrigeration. The main attraction is the balanced flavor and smooth silkiness. I believe the green tea flavor is very popular, but I personally prefer the milk and dark chocolates. It's definitely a must try for chocolate lover. read more

This review is for the mochicream alone. I haven't even tried too many of the flavors. But I am obsessed with the chocolate banana one. It's divine. I'm not a real sweets person to begin with, so I love that the mochi is covered in a dark, dusty, bitter chocolate. The banana flavor is slight and fresh and not at all overwhelming. Whenever I go to J Sweet, I make sure I purchase at least 3 of these little guys and reward myself throughout the next week with them. They keep really well in the freezer and just require 10 minutes to defrost. I've also tried the green tea mochi. Pretty mild in flavor, but pleasant. My boyfriend likes the raspberry one okay, but he doesn't crave these like I do. My favorite part? Using the dark chocolate powder as a lipstick after I'm done. Very vampy. Almost like MAC's Diva lipstick. ;) I mean, you can't beat that deal, right? read more

Royce is the most wondetful chocolate I have ever had!!! Although the price is much more expensive than it in Japan (3 times as the price in Japan), I still love it! The fruit bar is great too, but I don't quite like the chocolate chips very much. Mochi doesn't worth to try. read more
