This was a great place for a mid-afternoon ice cream break on a cold day in mid-November 2025 during a walk down Newbury Street. As it was chilly outside, I was the only customer. Lots of pluses. First, the service is friendly and you can sample different flavors if it's not too busy inside. Be sure to ask about the top 3 bestselling flavors. Second, I tried the cookies and cake batter in a medium-sized cup (2 scoops) which was delicious. Third, it has some seating available in the back. Overall, I would recommend stopping by this location if you're visiting Copley Square (Trinity Church or the Boston Public Library) and need an ice-cream or yogurt break. read more

We were all in the mood for ice cream about 8pm and this was the closest ice cream store to our hotel so decided to walk about a half mile to get some. It was a bit interesting to find as the store is located below the sidewalk as are others on the block, but the signing as we got there made it easy. 6 of us were there and all enjoyed our ice cream. I got a non-dairy chocolate with apple topping and it was really good and my wife enjoyed her maple walnut and the other 4 finished theirs 100%. Our server was Natasha, who was really nice, let my wife taste a couple different flavors before she made her choice and the others thought those who helped them were good too. read more

We stumbled upon this ice cream shop after dinner, and the storefront was so inviting that we couldn't resist going in. I ordered the Salty Cookies and Cream flavor and was blown away -- it was such a unique taste I've never tried before. A perfect balance of slightly salty and sweet, incredibly creamy, and it just melted in my mouth. Truly a delightful surprise! If you're ever in Boston, this spot is a must-visit. Delicious tart frozen yogurt - what they call Froyo X. I was looking for this exact flavor and I'm so glad they had it at their Newbury St location. I ordered the small cup and it was just right for a treat. This business is in the basement/garden unit of the building. There is limited seating in the back of the store, and some tables set up in the front by the steps. Very friendly staff, and they are open late. Highly recommend! read more

We were on Newbury St getting our steps in and browsing the shops on one of the many hot days we have been blessed with this summer & were parched. Luckily for us, there is a JP Lick's located right on Newbury St!! Our go-to is definitely their smoothies, specifically their strawberry and raspberry smoothies (raspberry one is not pictured here though). This day, we got one strawberry smoothie, which is made with yogurt & strawberry jam that is then blended, and sorbet freeze. Not sure what else they put in their smoothies, but whatever it is, I have been OBSESSED-- SO GOOD! The sorbet freeze was also great and definitely helped cool down from the heat. Great ice cream shop on Newbury. It's a walk down a few steps with tables inside and out. I asked the guy working what his personal favorites were, so we ordered them and loved them all. I ordered the new seasonal flavor of salted caramel coffee. It wasn't too salty and added to the coffee flavor nicely. The hubby ordered the black raspberry and coffee cookies and cream. The coffee cookies and cream was killer, very very coffee flavor and delicious. Service was exceptional and fast. read more

JP Licks is a Massachusetts Ice Cream chain that originated in Jamaica Plain. They offer unique cookies n cream ice cream flavors, sundaes, frozen yogurts, cakes and drinks. This location is on Newbury St. and there's limited seating and a restroom in the back. You can't taste flavors or see the ice cream before you order here but the flight was $9.99 for 4 scoops, which was worth it. Overall, the ice cream was good quality - I liked the ratio of cream to milk. In terms of the flavors: - The coffee cookies n cream was too bitter and the coffee flavor was too strong - 2/10. - The cinnamon toast crunch was my favorite. The cinnamon milk flavor was really evident and the cereal in the ice cream stayed crispy - 8/10. - The mint cookies n cream was average, there weren't chunks of chocolate in the ice cream but the mint flavor was strong - 6/10. - The unicorn crunch tasted like birthday cake ice cream with lots of circular sprinkles mixed in - 6/10. Wow! I'm surprised it took me this long to write a review, seeing as though it's been six months since I've stepped into this ice cream parlor. When I say this was the best ice cream deal I've ever seen, I mean it. My husband and I went here on our honeymoon and got 10lbs of ice cream for like $9. Ate outside, saw the rat pack (literal rats on the sidewalk) #soboston. Best ice cream experience ever. For real though the ice cream flight is EXTREME value and excellent taste. Who doesn't love ice cream on a hot day. The flavors were delicious the strawberry was so fresh and I loved the chunks of brownie in brownie batter ice cream. The staff were kind and let us try a few different flavors. They were not bust and there was searing in the back my friends and I took advantage of. This location and the lady who helped me serve me my ice cream was wonderful. I told her about my nut allergy and she took it very seriously. She opened up a whole new container of mint chocolate chip ice cream for me and a whole new container of chocolate sprinkles for me. It was very tasty. As I was gathering up my things from my outdoor table, a man walking by with kids and a companion remarked, "they could really use some better signage and information!" I disagree, if you're at J.P. Licks on Newbury, you know what you're looking for. Visits to family and friends when I was younger often brought a J.P. Licks stop and I popped in on the off chance I could snag something today. Imagine my delight to find a Joy brand gluten-free sugar cone and ube ice cream waiting for me. The menu board clearly marks what items are gluten-free and dairy-free. I do wish the shredded coconut in the ube ice cream had been more clearly disclosed - I was expecting just ube. This location has a few seats in the back, past the scoop bar and a few tables outside for those who don't mind the afternoon sun on that side of Newbury. For those keeping kosher, the window clearly displays their certification and a request that guests not bring in outside food to help them maintain certification. read more

Enjoyable ice cream experience! It was a warm sunny day on a Saturday around 4 pm. The line was long but it went by pretty quickly. About 15 minute wait. The flavors were unique and they all sounded very good! I got the peanut butter cookies and cream. I was very happy with it! It looks chocolatey but it was not overly chocolate. I really enjoyed it. Came for the Ube ice cream! It was so good but I wasn't expecting the coconut. I personally don't like coconut flakes (which was in the ice cream) but there wasn't a crazy amount of it so I was still able to enjoy it. For a small cup it was just over $5 which isn't much more than other ice cream places but still kinda $$ Final verdict: would come again only if I was REALLY craving ice cream read more

I've also made a customized version of the demogorgon to add caramel core and fudge sauce. You mostly taste the toppings more than the actual ice cream. The demogorgon is great for the chocolate on chocolate craving. I didn't like the Vader as much because the frosting on top is too sweet. Cannolis and cream I subbed the Oreo frosting with their homemade whip. Their whip doesn't taste like anything sadly and their frosting is overpowering. I probably wouldn't get this again since all you taste is the chocolate chips and a hint of Oreo. The yogurt itself was bland. For the blueb sundae I love the fresh blueberries, pudding and crumb topping. It's very nice for a fruit ice cream just wish the ice cream was more flavorful. Order online for easier pickup as there is only 1 screen to take orders at and no seating inside. Quick service. Has picnic tables outside to sit and not too bad to find parking on the street. Has some little tables but limited and twinkly lights at night. Staff seemed very stressed when people crowd around and needs better organization of the pickup area vs ordering vs waiting to avoid this frustration/rudeness from the staff.

So after celebrating our daughter's birthday in Quincy, we decided to walk down the street to Dairy Freeze on Adams Street for dessert. To my surprise and delight, they had orange sherbet and vanilla soft serve in the same machine and even offered it as a twist. There was no way I was passing that up. The first taste instantly brought me back to those childhood summers. It was absolutely delicious and filled with so many great memories. Sometimes a simple ice cream can do that. Dairy Freeze is one of those iconic neighborhood establishments that has been putting smiles on people's faces for decades. Great ice cream, friendly service, and a little dose of nostalgia made this an unexpected highlight of our evening. I'm so glad we stumbled across it, and I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Quincy looking for a sweet treat.

I got my usual: soft serve twist with rainbow sprinkles in a waffle cone. The cone was so fresh and flavorful, the rainbow sprinkles also tested fresh (I love when the sprinkles have their own distinct taste. That's how you know they're fresh), and the soft serve was cold and creamy. The dream. My friend got the cookie dough hard ice cream in a waffle cone and she really liked it too. The ordering/waiting lines were wild. Idk if it was an off-night when we went, but there were at least 15 people standing around waiting for their ice cream while we were in line ordering. Then it came our time to wait and it took 12 minutes just to get these 2 cones out. The kitchen was closed by the time we were there too, so no one was waiting on food. We were all waiting on an ice cream cone. I feel for them - it was a hectic summer night and everyone wants good ice cream - but I honestly hadn't seen anything quite like this before!

I ended up getting the coffee Oreo because I liked the flavor more, but note that it doesn't really have a coffee flavor. I'd say it was more chocolatey Oreo. I liked it, it just wasn't what I expected with the name. The prices seem high until you actually get the ice cream. For reference I got the smallest size (tot) and it was still difficult to finish by myself. I didn't LOVE the ice cream. It's more of a me thing, texture wise it just wasn't creamy enough. I'm glad I tried it and I understand why people like this place so much, it's just not for me.

It was quite interesting- not what I had expected and next time I would ask to omit the olive tapenade. I asked for ketchup to add in. It was a really good portion- probably 2 or 3 eggs. Very hearty and filling. The friend ordered the eggplant quinoa bowl which comes in this sauce and very cheesy. Comes with bread - really tasty! Bartender was friendly and service was great!

I mean, it's Boston, so I get it -it's a tourist area - but it's still worth mentioning. The ordering process is simple: order at the counter, grab a table, and wait for your food. I also wasn't a fan of seeing one of the staff members standing at the bar right next to us eating with an earbud in. It wasn't a huge deal, but it didn't feel very professional. We as in my boyfriend ordered both the cold Maine-style lobster roll with mayonnaise and the warm Connecticut-style lobster roll. The positives: * The bun was a perfect 10/10 soft, buttery, and toasted perfectly. * The lobster tasted fresh. * The lobster-to-bun ratio was decent, although I personally prefer the more generous portions you get in Maine. * The atmosphere was great with baseball on the TVs and a fun Boston vibe. Very seaport forward. The downsides: * The Connecticut-style roll barely had any butter and definitely needed more. * The lobster was slightly overcooked probably by a few minutes which made it a bit tougher than it should have been. * At around $40 per lobster roll, I expected better execution. The clam chowder was also disappointing. I kept wondering where the clams were because I barely tasted any. It was very thick and mostly tasted like corn. Even after adding salt and pepper, it didn't improve much. Overall, I expected more for the price. There were definitely some highlights, especially the bun with fresh lobster and the atmosphere, but the food didn't quite live up to the cost. That said, I'll give it another try because maybe this was just a fluke. I always like giving restaurants a second chance, and I'm hoping this experience was the exception rather than the norm.

I am always surprised at how full I am when I leave! I'm stuffed every time. There is complementary miso soup with all of the bowls I've tried, outlined below. I really loved all of the bowls I've tried but my favorites are probably the Sake Aisuru Don and Kuromon Don. I just prefer more salmon to more tuna though, and they're all very good! Food: - Sake Aisuru Don: their classic all-salmon bowl! I loved the larger cuts of salmon, and I was pleasantly surprised that even the more pulverized salmon was flavorful! - Kuromon Don: loved the yellowtail in this! Each fish comes with two pieces (except the mackerel for which there are four), and I liked the sampler style for the salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and izumidai. - Maguro Toro Don: so much tuna! And all such high quality. The otoro was so fatty that it practically melted in my mouth without chewing. - Sake Maguro Hamachi Don: a mix of salmon, blue fin tuna, and yellowtail. I liked the yellowtail in this a lot and found that it stood out the most from the other two fish in this particular bowl!

The second time I went back, I ordered take out so I could eat it at the airport for dinner. I ordered the Sake Maguro Hamachi don, added ikura and negitoro. Again, so impressed with the quality of the fish and the size of it. They didn't skimp out and really enjoyed the thickness of the sashimi despite it only being 3 pieces. It was a very satiating bowl. Cant wait to come back next time again!
