I was meeting my girlfriend here for a late lunch. It was my first time here since the pandemic, and I was excited! We both knew what we were ordering before we got to the restaurant, so we didn't pay attention to the menu. As planned, I had the Hawaiian Rib-Eye Steak ($45). The steak is marinated for 48 hours in a soy pineapple marinade. It was just as good as I remembered it to be, and I loved it! Not sure of the ounces, but I had enough leftover for my dinner. For my one included side, I had the roasted carrots, and they were very good. I also had a side order of thin and crispy fries, which were absolutely delicious. The steaks used to include two side dishes, so we ordered two. Our server didn't mention the menu change where entrées include one side now. It's not his fault we didn't look at the menu, but mentioning the menu change would have been nice. No big deal. My perfectly seasoned crispy fries were definitely worth the extra seven dollars. They were yummy! I couldn't resist taking a piece of their famous carrot cake home. I am not a big fan of carrot cake, but J Mark's version is not your typical carrot cake. Oh no, this multi layered cake is over the top. It's extremely moist, and the cream cheese frosting is unique, just like the cake itself. The slice is huge, large enough for me to pick at it for three days. This is one dessert that I will always order. It's simply luscious, so don't pass it up. It does contain nuts, so if you are allergic, sadly, this isn't the dessert for you. I am not upset about the menu changes since the pandemic. Rather, I am thrilled this restaurant survived, including their second location in Fort Lauderdale. James and Mark are the two brothers who own J Mark's. Supporting family owned businesses is important to me, and menu changes, including price increases, are to be expected these days. I normally don't eat steak for lunch, but my girlfriend and I were on the phone talking about how delicious their Hawaiian Rib-Eye is, and we decided to go have a late lunch the following day, which is what we did. I absolutely loved my meal and am looking forward to going back soon. read more

We came here for a date night as we happen to be down this way for something else. It was recommended to us as they have an amazing lunch menu so we figured why not try it for dinner. I had the New York strip and my partner had the Cajun shrimp Pasta. His food was spiced deliciously- my steak ordered medium rare came more medium well and while it was good- it was bland for a steak. Their calamari with choice of dipping sauce was great! Went here for our "Red Meat Dinner" while on vacation in Pompano Beach. Our Server, Francis, was excellent and our meals came out just right and paced well between salads and entrees. Our only reason for removing a star is that they no longer cook their "infamous" Prime Rib any longer than just Medium. My dining partner likes Pittsburgh Medium Well, and that wasn't allowed (???) as it was a corporate decision (train your cooks better, perhaps?) but my fillet was just right. Each entree also includes a side dish, so you do save a little by not ordering extra side dishes, unless you want to. Although the steak and prime rib was good, we don't eat steaks a lot and on our next trip to FL, would probably try another place like a seafood or another specialty restaurant for food that we wouldn't normally get at home. read more

As a frequent customer at Jmarks, I've noticed several safety issues that raise serious concerns for both the staff and the customers. If an owner doesn't prioritize staff safety, it inevitably affects the customers' dining experience. Here's what I've observed: - The bar dishwasher is often non-functional or emits strong smells in front of customers. - Mats that trip up employees and customers. - Bathrooms that are not clean. - The restaurant does not have proper drainage. - State inspections are either non-existent or the inspectors are overlooking many safety hazards. - Backflow inspections are definitely not being done yearly, as I have seen bartenders working in a foot of dirty backflow water behind the bar. Customers see Jmarks staff weekly, and it's clear they are being taken advantage of. Despite their hard work, the owner, "S," prioritizes buying ridiculous candles over investing in a new dishwasher to ensure clean dishes for customers. This negligence is gross and makes me reconsider eating at this restaurant again. I can only imagine what is broken and going on in the back of the house where customers cannot see. As a frustrated customer and former restaurant owner, I have to express my disappointment with "S." Despite spending around $5K a month at the Pompano location and appreciating the diverse and experienced waitstaff, I cannot overlook these issues. "S" obsesses over trivial matters like cheap fake candles on a tiny bar, which not only limits customer space but also adds unnecessary strain on the already busy bartenders. During our visits to various sections of the restaurant, it's evident that "S" is fortunate to have such dedicated and skilled staff, particularly in the kitchen led by "RR." However, it's disheartening to witness the owner's neglect of essential aspects like staff comfort. Keeping a padlock on thermostats, ignoring complaints about uncomfortable working conditions, and nitpicking over staff attire (such as white shirts getting wrinkled during shifts) are unacceptable practices. Instead of focusing on trivial issues like staff wardrobe or unnecessary remodeling, "S" should prioritize customer experience and staff well-being. Offering a simple hello or smile to regulars, acknowledging their contributions, and addressing fundamental issues like uncomfortable working environments should be paramount. Furthermore, the lack of proper drainage and failure to address serious health code violations, such as backflow issues, make me question the overall food safety and quality. If these aspects are being neglected, what else might be compromised? I think OSHA and the State of Florida need to pay this restaurant a visit to get the owner to wake up and prioritize the safety and health of his employees and customers. Additionally, "S" should hire a professional restaurant cleaning crew to ensure that things are clean, proper chemicals are used, and the already short-staffed crew is not burdened with these important tasks at the end of their already long shifts, and proper inspections are being done. In conclusion, "S" needs to take a reality check and understand that their actions are not conducive to a 5-star dining experience. As a frustrated customer and former owner in the business, I hope this review serves as a wake-up call for necessary improvements at the Pompano location. - Not a fan of "S" the owner. So we are here from out of town on vacation. We sit and just from the start not a warm reception. Order our dinner and my wife was not happy with her burger, very soggy bread. She ate half. We tell our server, no manager comes to talk to us. For a place like this I would At least expect a table touch from the manager. To top it off they don't take the burger off the check. It's become very clear to me and my family that that woman's intentions was to take my baby sister away. Because she stayed with us during the fact of my baby sister crying. she stayed even when our food was being served to us. And even while we were eating. Having barely a little to any communication with us. Just wanting her daughter to play with ours. On another note, the place is filled with Caucasian people. 7-8-23 Noon Came here to celebrate with fellow Yelpers Britt Z, Joan L.'s birthday. Believe it or not never been to this restaurant before at this location or any of their others. So the bar was set high. After parking out front we went inside for a table for three. The ambiance and seating was very nice. The air conditioning was cool but not freezing as it is very hot out today. The waiter was very attentive and brought us a basket of rolls and butter one for each of us. I always think I will be good and skip the bread but couldn't resist. It was hot and delicious and the butter was softly whipped and together it was magic ok let's be honest here I could have eaten them all very easily. For our lunch we all surprisingly had salads. I asked the waiter he said the Chopped Salad was one of the more popular ones. It sold me and it was delicious. Right down to the last lettuce leaf. Yes I am embarrassing to go out with part of the clean plate club. But it was truly delicious or i wouldn't have enjoyed it so much. Oh we also all got unsweetened ice teas served with plenty of fresh sliced lemons. Britt raved about their carrot cake so her and I both took a slice home to enjoy later. One of our favorite local go to's is J. Marks Whether we get Jesus or Loretta, we know we are going to get outstanding service to go along with the delicious food. Dishes to consider are the Prime Rib, NY Strip Steak and the Chopped Oriental Salad. Oh, my wife just chimed in, she loves the Miso Salmon. There are specials in the Pelican for discounted meals and my friend LOVES their Happy Hours cocktails. My only criticism is that if you ask for seconds on their hot rolls, there is a service fee. We were standing outside after dining and she brought out my nephews Invisalign that he left on the table. While she was out asking how our food was she noticed my niece had severe sunburn on her feet. Danny had a home remedy and came out with some mustard which she put in my nieces foot. Dinner for one while away on business. I was craving a good steak dinner and I found J Marks on Yelp. The restaurant was easy to find in a shopping area with lots of parking. I was promptly seated and greeted by the waiter. The watermelon martini...yum! A juicy filet with a side crab cake ...yum! Warm buns too! There was plenty of food to satisfy my craving. Came for a late lunch with my mom & hubby. The ambiance is very lovely inside. You wouldn't think it's in a mall like plaza. We were greeted at the door by the hostess & she brought us back to a booth. Our server came & took our order very quickly. The food was absolutely delicious & everyone enjoyed what they had. I should mention the hot fresh rolls with creamy butter that arrived before our entrees- so yummy. My mom had the Scottish Salmon with Garlic Mashed Potatoes. She usually comments that some places are very garlicky but she said these were better & milder. My hubby had a side Caesar salad to start & ordered the Hawaiian Rib Eye with plantains. Very large & cooked just right. I ordered the 10 Oz NY Strip Steak with black beans & rice. Also ordered the string beans. We did take home a few things. Sorry, I didn't take pictures of the food. We had considered J Marks as our favorite restaurant over the past 13+ years. Today, 9/3/25, we experienced the worst meal ever. The rolls, which we always considered a highlight, were so doughy we couldn't eat them. Our Chicken Madeira was dry/overcooked and the Madeira sauce wasn't tasteful as in the past. The garlic mashed potatoes had no garlic in them. To top it off, the mashed potatoes had 2 half boiled potatoes hidden under them. Apparently, someone plated them without realizing the boiled potatoes hadn't been mashed. We asked the waiter if there was a new chef on staff but he said there was not. We didn't even see a manager walking around to ask how the meals were. So very disappointing. We will wait to return to J Marks for a few months in the hope that things get better. Came to J Marks last night in search of a great crab cake and saw the recommendation on a S Florida Eats FB page. Very cool atmosphere, festive inside and out for the holiday, and seated quickly with friendly staff. Drink orders came out quickly and placed dinner order. I ordered ribeye 12 oz with broccoli and of course a crab cake on the side (I would've ordered the crab cake meal but wasn't sure how they would be). Glad I didn't order the crab cake dinner as it was your basic filler crab cake. A couple of lump pieces but very few and mostly picked crab meat; very disappointing. The ribeye was average and not well seasoned, broccoli was supposed to have a "butter sauce" but was plain and basic. J Marks is a casual place to get a nice solid meal for about $20 per person. I'm one of those people that always likes to modify their meal so I was pleased that the server was able to honor my request. I ordered the bow tie chicken carbonara but subbed the bow tie for fettuccine. I also omitted the mushrooms because I'm not a fan. The food was delicious and I definitely recommend stopping by for a quick bite if you're in the area. read more

We were shopping in the area and were very hungry so we came here. The parking here is so much better than their Fort Lauderdale location. They are still practicing social distancing and have some tables blocked off. They bring you warm complimentary rolls. Although the rolls were so soft, they had no taste other than being a little salty. Our Avocado Egg Rolls were SO yummy and I loved the dipping sauce that you get with them! My daughter ordered the Dijon Chicken Melt sandwich. When she ordered it, she saw dijon in the desk and didn't look beyond that so she was surprised when she saw there was bacon on it, lol. She said that she couldn't taste the dijon and it was just like a chicken sandwich with cheese but was still good. My other daughter ordered the Chicken Madeira and absolutely LOVED it! I ordered the Orange Chicken which was good. The rice was not as soft as I would have liked. I like that we weren't rushed and was able to enjoy spending time with my daughters. read more

Usually this is a good experience but sadly, my visit tonight was sub par. Prices have gone up significantly and the old saying, "you get what you pay for" doesn't apply. I ordered a NY strip at nearly $50 and only offered one side. Our server dropped off bread plates with our drinks and never served bread. When I asked our server about the bread he said, "we're out". We've been going to to J Marks for many years since they opened. Four of us went to dinner at the Pompano location and it was a quite pricey meal. Service was OK. Food was not what it used to be. I don't like spending a lot of money in a restaurant and then being nickel and dimed for everything. Three of us had prime rib and they were tough. I ordered a Cajun prime rib and they gave me a ramekin full of butter and chili pepper or something like that, not a true Cajun style prime rib. One person had barbecued ribs and said they were very dry. Again, the bill was shocking for what we received. We will not be going back. read more

I had a late lunch here with my husband and some friends a couple weeks ago and had a great time! We sat at a booth in the bar area and our server was Lisa, who was just lovely! Never an empty glass while we were there, which is always important. I had the Cajun burger with the standard fries and, man, those are my kind of fries!!! Crispy and nicely seasoned (I like a salty fry, for flavor preference gauging), I could have eaten those fries alone and been happy. Then the burger. Lordy was it good! Cooked to perfection (medium rare) and all the fixings. I can't remember what my husband got, but I know he liked it because we didn't have any left for a to go box. We went with family to celebrate a birthday on Monday night, 1/13 and we were disappointed to find out that the skirt steak that the birthday and others wanted was not available. This is the 3rd time in a year that we were told that this menu item was unavailable. We were shocked again so several people ordered the strip steak with loaded baked potatoes, only to find out that they were out of baked potatoes. Our dinner reservation was at 7pm. How do you also run out of potatoes? This has been one of our favorite local restaurants and we are locals and love to support our locally owned restaurants but it is becoming hard with JMarks. read more
