Holy Crap, so good!! So happy I stumbled upon this little hidden gem. One of the best taco plates I've ever had... and I eat a lot of tacos!! I ordered the Jaywalker tacos & not only are they incredibly delicious, but I'm taking 2 tacos home with me for lunch tomorrow. Great food great service and super cute! Totally recommend trying. Won't be coming back, prime rib is dry even with the dip, fries were cold, asked for new and they came back rubbery as if they warmed them up in the microwave. burger was asked to be cooked well done but still came out pink. We both had Illinois driver license to order drinks but said they were invalid and wouldn't except them, non expired both legal licenses. read more

My husband and I moved to coppell 2+ years ago and J Macklins is our favorite go-to! Easter brunch, dinner celebrations, etc. The mimosa's and chicken n waffles are soooo good for brunch. The menu is not huge but the variety is just fine because the quality and taste was very good. We both ordered off the specials menu on the board. I was told it changes at least once a week. We came here on a Saturday for lunch and there was not wait and it was not too full. That was great because we had a fairly large party and were able to get a good table indoors. It was a nice day so I will note that the outdoor area was full. The brunch menu looked great and the service fantastic. For my entree, I got the country fried steak, which was huge!! The table oooohed and ahhhed when the dish came out and the big taste matched the big size. The breading was not too much like at some other places and the sides were well proportioned as well. J. Macklin's Grill is curiously tucked away in a strip center that should otherwise be occupied by a family dentistry or an optometrist's office. Parking in the front can be sparse, so you can usually find me in the back. The buffalo eggrolls are probably my go to appetizer, but the fried pickles are also well done, especially when consuming a profusion of beer. The burgers, chicken skillet, and chicken fried steak are all done nicely, I usually opt for their fries versus other sides as they are executed well and typically come out hot. Though really most of their dishes are commendable, and I've never tried anything there on the rotating menu and or permanent menu that I didn't care for. I do wish they'd bring back the chicken fried steak they used to have with pico de gallo, avocados, and some sort of Texican inspired gravy. While I can't remember the name, it was very tasty. There was also a fried fish sandwich that was flavorous, that I also wish would make a reappearance. I really like J. Macklin's, and really the only thing stopping me from giving them 5 stars is their beer and wine selection. The wine section is loaded with common Californian options, which aren't bad, but are too pedestrian and there are much better imports for less (this is strictly my opinion). Also their relevant selection of draft beers is minimal, which I can't really blame them for, however it would be nice to see them offer some of the more unique local beers, perhaps some of True Vine's offerings. Overall one of my absolute favorite places to visit in Coppell. Though please watch your speed if you visit as Denton Tap is very actively monitored. read more

Great spot in Coppell! I've eaten here a number of for brunch and dinner as well. As far as location it's great! It's only a mile or two from my in-laws house which makes it very easy to get to. They space is laid out very nicely. They have a great patio with umbrella's for the sun and music on the weekends and some weekend. Both are plus's right there. Our last time there was for brunch so let's talk about that. We started off with spicy bacon Bloody Mary's. If you have not had one yet I would recommend them! They are absolutely delicious. They also have bottomless mimosas for $10 I believe which are equally as good. But how can you pass on bacon. :) We also started with some hip chips for the table. Basically some chips w/ a spicy ketchup. My wife and I slit the chicken and waffles. They come out a big portion So by this time they are perfect to not over eat. But the chicken was crispy and the waffles were cooked just right. All in all we had another great brunch here. This is one of my favorite places to eat in Coppell. I must admit I am absolutely addicted to their chicken and waffles. It is a great combination of sweet salty spicy. It is a must try!!! I also greatly enjoy their barbacoa nachos they are very generous and every nacho has something on it! It also had a drizzle of barbecue sauce which I believe greatly compliments the cheese and meat! We were seated fairly fast on a Saturday night. Menu is simple and easy to navigate. The barbacoa nachos were pretty badass. I ordered the skillet chicken that comes with spinach orzo and artichoke. Kudos to the chef for letting me swap out artichoke for some asparagus, despite it apparently not being "allowed" per the waiter (don't know why or what that's about...). Everything tasted good though, fast service, courteous wait staff. Something nit picky and irrelevant to the actual food but their booth seats could use refurbishing. Great place to catch up with friends after work! Loved the ambience, the food and the service. The menu has a wide variety to choose from and will have something for everyone. The service is pretty quick and within moments you will be served a big plate of heaps of food, not bad for the money you pay. Three of us went for fish and chips, BBQ pork ribs and pulled chicken tacos. Fish and chips was very good, enormous chuncks, beer batter fried to perfection and tasted delish till the last bite. BBQ pork ribs had a coffee rub which we couldn't really taste but the ribs were well cooked, meat almost falling of the bone. Chicken tacos were packed with lots of filling and flavor. We also exchanged our sides with other ones we prefered. Our friend was having a birthday and we were meeting up for that reason, and they caught on to that and provided the bday girl with some awesome dessert on the house ! Yes, extremely nice of them! Came to eat with my wife and 3 year old. We always feel uncomfortable going out to eat with our daughter but we had a great experience thanks to our server Cameron. He helped her pick her meal from the kids menu and circled back frequently to check in on us. Cleaned plates and trash off the table quickly so our daughter couldn't make a mess. Even brought her a brownie sundae for finishing(sort of) her chicken tenders. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed my experience here. I work nearby an always pass this place coming to work. I never stopped in because I didn't have an opportunity to until one day. My coworker was leaving us and we had happy hour here for her going away. I had a burger and it was delightful. The happy hour drinks were $5 for a frozen flavored margarita. I had two of those. A picture speaks a thousand words. I get it Coppell is a "Commuter town" a "bedroom suburb" a place that has outstanding Schools and less then excellent restaurants. But before I follow this prairie dog of self-doubt down the golden path of insecurity I signed up for this right. 5 months ago this review would of been a 3 or 4. I was a big fan of the prime rib sandwich. a warm French baguette piled high melt in your mouth beef with a light cheese note due to the high stack of meat served with a side of sweet potato fries. At one point I found myself consuming this sandwich twice a week. Well It's been awhile so I thought it would be perfectly reasonable to give my old stand by a try. What a let down, I left pissed, I was angry. Not the kind of angry where I went on a yelling rampage and stomped and kicked my exercise ball. The kind of angry that temps me to write a nasty review and blast it all over the web I don't like doing this (obviously) But sometimes bad news has to be taken lightly so that you can fix the problem....Who knows maybe I am the problem. I am sure someone that lives out a mediocre life might enjoy this re-vamped luke warm microwaveable vending machine style delight. On a visit with one of my college best friends, she recommended we go to J Macklins for brunch. I'm always open to try local spots, so off we went. I was very impressed by the ambiance in the restaurant upon walking in. Once seated, I was amazed by the choices on the menu very little "Safe" options which I rarely like to play it safe when ordering anyways. I went for their rendition of chicken and waffles. This was not regular chicken and waffles people this was next level. The waffle was described as bacon/Gouda, spicy fried chicken breasts, fried onions, spicy honey butter, and topped with a fresh jalapeño. WOW it was amazing all of my taste buds were at attention with the lovely sweet and spicy combination. Definitely packed on more heat though which I loved to accompany my cranberry mimosa. Service was great and if I'm ever back in town... I will definitely be going back to J Mack's. read more

The Chicken & Waffles was great (not healthy at all) but great taste and the chicken could be cut with your fork. Enough to share with two people, if you asked me, so order one and spit it. No need in doubling your chances getting a heart stent. Had an oatmeal wheat beer that was good too, but possibly a bit heavy to go with the Chicken & Waffles. Needless to say, I was stuffed. We've been here a solid five times, could be more, over the last two months and after a few times I looked at the yelp reviews we were so surprised at the rating for this place! It is by far the best dinner place in the area for good hearty American unique eats. Here are the things we've tried that are phenomenal: -Bacon Bama jama slamma burger (my boyfriends #1) -Chicken and waffles -Ahi tuna burger (yum yum) definitely a little over cooked but the taste was so rich -wedge salad, I get this every time haha but it doesn't reinvent the wheel or anything -cowboy burger -pulled pork sandwich (another special mention because it was a fan favorite!) -hip chips (Tabasco soaked chips, sooooo good we've never been without getting these!) The "meh" things: -bacon & avocado sandwich (not great, definitely not bad) -chicken club sandwich (again not great, but not bad. Bacon was too much and the chicken was a little dry) -fish tacos (closest I've had to a meal I didn't like here, but I'm very picky of anything trying to resemble Mexican food. Blame it on my San Antonio roots!) The ginger peach iced tea is great and the great beer selection is worth mentioning again. We've been here multiple times in the last month, for dinner and for brunch. The food and service are both excellent. Even when there is a line, things move along quickly and efficiently, so the wait is not as long as would be expected. So few restaurants these days provide water, along with whatever drink is ordered, and that is a very nice touch. I love bread pudding, so anytime I see it on a menu I have to order it. At some restaurants it is good, and some not. Here it was very good. Burgers, salads, fish, breakfast - all excellent. Again, great bread pudding and I will try the brownie sundae when we go for dinner this week. If I had to make one suggestion, it would be for the sides I know are available to actually be on the menu. The mixed vegetables that come with the Mahi Mahi are amazing and I would love to see them on the menu. read more
