First Yelp review for 2017! #1 This is the place to go for a smorgasbord of varies food which includes burgers, steak, tacos, salads, and sandwiches. Coppell has some of the best little eateries. This is yet another one! This is the first day of the New Year and nobody wants to cook today. My kids have been going here for some time and this is the first visit for my husband and I. Really was a great pick! The restaurant has a bar area for those that don't feel like sitting at a table. They have daily happy hour and daily specials listed on the blackboards at the rear of the restaurant. The restaurant does have live music, but tonight was just not that night. I'm guessing that live music is a weekend event. I ordered the Bacon Bleu, the poblano bacon jam left a delicious burst of flavor in my mouth with every bite. It simply lingered, yum! The Bleu cheese was an additional flavor that really made this one of the most delicious burgers I have had in some time. (Burger was cooked medium) Fries were a little on the soggy side, lacked that crispy factor. My daughter had the Black Bean Veggie burger with the best cilantro aioli sauce. She too had fries that lacked in the wow factor. They need to bottle that cilantro aioli stuff, it's that good! I stole her sauce. My son had the French Dip sandwich with unfortunately soggy sweet potato fries. It had a lot of meat piled on it from what I could see. Hubby had the Cheddar burger with a salad. I think I got the best deal with my scrumptious burger. Service is genuinely spot on. Refills and busing of the tables is a huge pet peeve of mine. Keep the customers water filled and the tables clean. Our server did an excellent job of keeping up with both. This place is really loud, I'm sure its related to the many TV's that surround the dining area. When Parmesan Truffle Fries are substituted for regular fries, should Fish & Chips be renamed Fish & Truffle Chips? The restaurant ran out of steak, so I could not order the Steak Frites. Fortunately, I was able to get the truffle fries with the Fish & Chips. Since it's a traditional pub food, I decided to get Blood & Honey for my drink. I made the mistake of eating hummus for the appetizer. The combination of the pita bread and hummus; although very delicious, prevented any room for dessert. read more

Brisket tacos are the best! I inhaled them while in a meeting. Service is always happy and helpful.

Food quality is hit and miss here. Some days everything is great. Other days like today the food was old and tasteless. Fries were cold and soggy. Chicken club was not eatable. Chicken was old dry and chewy. Bacon was greasy and rubbery. Very disappointing. Mgr did take my sandwich off and gave us an appetizer card but such lack of quality is inexcusable. read more

This rating is for the food and the online ordering. That was one of the most efficient online ordering I have seen. Especially loved the personal touch as it was signed for by Todd! The pick up was horrible though! I was totally ignored as I stood by the front entrance waiting. The Gal at the bar ignored me as well as she was a holding a full on conversation with someone else that was picking up. She even had me waiting as she continued her conversation. Had a wonderful brunch when visiting my family here. Food was great and the ambiance was nice too. Our waiter Chandler was extremely efficient and took a lot of care into making sure we were having a great time and enjoying ourselves. He made sure we had a great time and was very conversational! The brisket nachos (peppers and bbq sauce are a must) and shrimp grits are my favorite. Usually order to go but have had a good dine in experience. Other dishes tried were okay (ie buffalo egg rolls and bean/avocado tacos). read more

Disappointed... I'd been wanting to come here for quite some time and finally had the opportunity to check it out. We walked in on a Friday evening, happy to be seated quickly. We ordered the Ahi Tuna starter; it was pretty good. Then I ordered the Atlantic Salmon. I asked the waiter how it was prepared, and his response was "In a pan." That should have been a clue for me to order something else. I explained what I meant, he didn't understand, and I asked could it be cooked medium. I usually prefer my salmon medium rare but didn't want to push my luck. My sister ordered the Soy glazed salmon and asked for hers to be cooked the same. Took a while to get, and boy was my fish WELL DONE. I usually do not send food back, but I had no choice. It was so dry and tough from being overcooked! The waiter said he would have it made again, and he came back after a while with JUST the fish. This time it was cooked to perfection, however, my quinoa and carrots were cold by then. My sister enjoyed her fish, but her jasmine rice was completely undercooked. How do you not cook rice correctly at a restaurant? She didn't send it back, it just stayed on the plate. We were disappointed, probably won't be returning, and I do hate that. I try to support local restaurants as much as I can. read more

I went with friends for brunch! I had bottomless mimosas for $14 and well worth it! I ordered a black bean burger with an egg and it was delicious and worth every penny! My friends ordered sandwiches- my friend advised the bbq sandwich was too sweet but still enjoyed it. If I could change one thing it would be the serving of the French fries. There were maybe 10 fries on the plate. Besides that, delicious food, nice cozy corner, great service! I will definitely be coming back :) read more

I work in Coppell and come to J Macklin's Grill on my lunch hour. I come by myself, but the atmosphere and staff make me feel so welcomed. Everyone is very friendly, the food is amazing. Brandi, the bartender, serves out great service and drinks. No matter how busy, the food always comes out quickly. I love the days I come to have my lunch at J Macklin's! Today was my first visit at the restaurant and I enjoyed the experience. My friend and I went at the perfect time and was seated within 5 minutes of arriving. The menu offers everything to a light snack, drinks, brunch, lunch to special entrees for dinner. I had the French toast plate which was delicious! My goofy friend order the chorizo, not realizing that chorizo is meat and she is vegetarian LOL. Our waitress Yohanna and the manager was so kind and gracious with us to re-cool her order as desired. Even the chef came out to greet us! Next visit ask for Yohanna, she is very kind and attentive throughout our visit. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very intimate and cozy. Very comfortable for small or large parties. I would recommend setting a reservation for larger groups to ensure short wait times. The place is packed! Also the parking is limited so make sure to go during off-set busy hours. I loved the food, the staff and will definitely visit again soon! read more

Came here while on a work trip to Irving based on a recommendation from my really good friend. Dined on a Tuesday night and the place was mostly full. The type of crowd you'd see on a weekend. Bar seating was also relatively full. I considered this to be a good sign. Although Macklin's was mostly occupied, there wasn't a wait. Since I was alone, I was seated right away and offered a beverage. Based on the recommendation from my friend, I knew exactly what to order. I ordered the Red Snapper main dish. The dish itself wasn't that complicated...blackened snapper, grits, crawfish, cream sauce and broccoli. The snapper was okay, but the cream sauce made the entire dish just burst with flavor. There was the right amount of cream sauce to work into the grits to give them even more flavor. I enjoyed this place, the ambiance and the main dish. The disappointment for me was the dessert. Peach Blueberry crumble. More crumble than fruit. Which I like buttery crumble, but was looking forward to more peaches and blueberries. A bit lack luster for sure! read more

Just asked to sit in the patio with my service animal since the inside was fixing to get busy. Told them we didn't really want to be around a giant crown and only stopped for drinks and appetizers, 4:30pm and they agreed. Then we never got more than our first round and never saw a server again so we left a half empty restaurant to make room for your crowds and find another place to eat and drink. read more

My coworkers and I used to eat at J Macklin's regularly. Since the Pandemic started, our office had been working remotely. I live about 25 miles away from the office building, which is in the same area as the restaurant. I am going to preface this review with the fact that I was doing a whole 30 during my visit to J Macklins, so this review is purely for the service and smells floating from my friend's brisket nachos. This was the perfect middle ground to meet up with my girlfriends. The atmosphere is very casual with ample patio seating. We arrived around 4 PM and were seated immediately. We chatted and stayed for many hours. For only ordering a bowl of fruit, the service never staggered. My friends got a burger, which she inhaled, so I assume it was tasty, and the brisket nachos, which smelled HEAVENLY. Around 6-7 PM, the restaurant started picking up and when we left at 8PM, it was pretty hopping. Now that I've completed my whole 30, I'd definitely go back the next time I'm in town! read more

Stopped by for a quick beer before meeting a friend for dinner. The place is full of regulars, which is a great sign of a solid establishment. The service from both bartenders was friendly and genuine without being overbearing. Lots of laughter can be heard, and who doesn't love the sound of happiness? The only reason to dock a star is because of the layout. The bar hits you in the face as soon as you walk in. and the L-shape doesn't work along the short side because of the lack of TVs or anything to keep you entertained.
