Excellent service and the food was delicious! I would definitely go back. The dessert was a nice touch

The owner came to the table and said that my filet mignon needed to be butterflied because they couldn't cook a filet mignon we'll done. I proceeded to advise him that's how I always order my steaks at all steak houses I go to. I told him if it could not be cooked that way to please remove it from the order and then I will just eat the potato skins. He then proceeded to tell me he was already on the grill. Long story short, my husband and I thought we got a tongue lashing as the owner tried to educate us on the money he's gonna lose on a steak that they couldn't cook correctly. I would not recommend this restaurant. The white staff was excellent. She was great with no complaints, but the confrontation with the owner is not worth a meal. read more

Yesterday we tried J Hartman's for the first time. Our dining experience was mind blowing! We decided to try the special, prime rib, and it was beyond exceptional! It was without a doubt the best prime rib I've ever eaten. The steak was melt in your mouth tender and seasoned to perfection. Our entrees were accompanied by mouth watering sides and a tasty au jus sauce. We rounded out our meal with a moist piece of homemade coconut cake that was phenomenal. The hostess was friendly and accommodating. Our waitress was efficient and helpful throughout our meal. The owner came by to check on our dining experience. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. The decor was inviting and I appreciated that it highlighted local landmarks. We will most certainly be back!!! read more

Food is good. However. I will never eat there again. The owner made a point to come to our table to check out receipt when my boyfriend got a cup of soup instead of the "bowl" he ordered. She just wanted to "clarify" because it wasn't put in right. Said it wasn't. "Big deal" then WHY even question? She told us it wasn't worth the $1.50 difference....then why come to the table WITHOUT the soup and Bring the receipt to look. Boyfriend offered to pay....she graciously declined his money.... GUESS what....he gave one of the wait staff $2 to give to Jennifer. So glad we were able to give her the money. Guess what.....that buck fifty cost you my business, so enjoy that dollar fifty while I take my next twenty bucks some where else. Funny thing...I already had plans to meet, Friend there tomorrow.. This is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in Marion!!! Have not had one of their entrees although I have heard that they are excellent. Their subs, hamburgers, and salads, however, could not be more delicious!!!!! read more

Food is good but over priced. Service is really bad, they have 4 or 5 girls working the tables but all they did was stand in the corner and talked. I would given them another star but you have to pay before you're seated which means you have to leave a tip without knowing how the service is. I gave a 30% tip BUT if I could have left a tip after the meal it would have been 10% ( Me and another customer had to go up to the counter to ask for a refills, even then we had to wait for someone to come to the counter.) New to area and first time at J. Hartman's. Highly recommend. Wife had special, grilled Trout. I tasted and we both loved it. I had special Prime Rib. Yearly good. Asked for piece done medium and it was perfect. This is family owned, not a chain. Hostess was very nice and knowledgeable. Waitress was same. Sorry can't remember names to give them shout out for their great service. Manager stopped by a few times to check in. What great food and service. Will be back. read more

This restaurant is new and is actually a growth from Holly's deli that was across the street. I had the salmon and french fries, and the salmon was a very small piece for the price and the french fries were very few. I actually ordered a second order of french fries.My girlfriend had A Philly cheesesteak which had only one slice of meat in it and again could have been a little bit fuller of a portion. I had a Ruben and they could've been a little bit more generous with the sauerkraut and meat. I think that they could be a little bit more generous with their portions overall. And they also missed a few items and details of our orders. I encourage them to do a little bit better with details and this will be a place that we enjoy over and over. read more

My husband got the grilled chicken salad yesterday. He quickly told me that he didn't think the chicken was done and asked me to try it. I have never had such a strange feeling from a bite of chicken. I couldn't even bite through it. I got the Alfredo and it was ok but it was a little watery, not the creamy sauce I was expecting. read more

Love going here. I see all of the other not so great reviews, and I'm a little confused. The food is always consistently good, the wait staff is always great, and I've NEVER paid before being seated. I always get a crab dip app, then either the funky chicken or french dip. My boyfriend got the peel & eat shrimp once, and he loved it as well. The Caesar salad could have a little more dressing and cheese, so I won't order those anymore, but other than that, I have liked everything from there. Maybe I'm just too used to Morganton, where they can take any bad thing and make it worse? read more

We are traveling and stopped in Marion NC. We saw this restaurant and decided to try it. I am so glad we did. The service at the bar was outstanding. Auburn was an excellent serve and very personable. The food was really good and hot. The Cajun shrimp is to die for. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. went in one day, because I had never tried it. I happened to see a friend of mine sitting at the bar and she asked me to join her. i sat there for a few minutes talking to my friend, th girl behind the bar looked directly at me 2-3 times and I kept thinking she would be over to take my order. she did not. I was getting up to leave and my friend, asked why I was leaving. I said, I can't get a drink. so she got her attention, and she came directly over to her, still not even acknowledging a new customer at the bar for almost 5 minutes. she asked my friend what she needed, she said this is my friend David he would like a drink. she looks at me and says what do want. I said, I am really thirsty and in a bit of a hurry, so can I get a beer and a bourbon. i asked for a double wild turkey 101 , and she got right to it. set my bourbon down , didn't say a word, and then walked off to the kitchen. that is when I asked my friend what food she had ordered , because we were the only people at the bar, so I assumed she was getting her food. my friend said she didn't order any food. she came back out with nothing in her hands, but her mouth was still full from grazing in the kitchen. that is when I dropped a 20 dollar bill , to make sure I had covered my bourbon knowing it was too much, and hoping maybe the next time I came in she would be different. guess what no such luck. I came back , because I wanted to give the place a fair try. not when I was in a hurry. I came into the bar, and the same girl was bartending. she was talking to some customers that were already served, looked at me, sneared and looked away. I talked to a couple of my neighbors that were at the bar, said I couldn't stay at the bar, because the bartender will not serve me for some reason. so I went to the hostess , and got a table, so I could give the restaurant a fair chance. I spent over 200 dollars, buying the waitress and the hostess food to take home on my bill, not to mention I tipped the waitress about 100 dollars, I even tipped the hostess who so amazing at least 40 dollars. I then went to the bar after paying my bill and tipping, to order a drink. I showed her how much money I had spent at the table, instead of her bar. she then got super mad and asked me to leave. I said, how are you able to get away with treating customers this way, you must be a product of nepotism (which means you were hired because you are family)she yelled what did you call me. I said that means you must be an owner or something. She said no my father is. I said of course you are, that is why you don't care about the customer and you feel like you are doing everyone a favor to serve them. She lost it. She started screaming and yelling for me to get out, or she would call the police. I said no problem, and left. I then call back to talk to a manager or owner, knowing that she is the owner's daughter. She answered the phone and said my dad wants to talk to you. This is the Jon Hartman that all the other bad reviews are speaking of. I said great, I am sure he would like to know what happened in his restaurant this evening. She said he wasn't there. I said, then I guess he can't talk to me. I told her I would be glad to come in again tomorrow and talk to them about what went on. This is where it even gets better. jon Hartman the owner of a restaurant with his name on it, called me twice, and hung up on me both times. He threatened me, used foul language, and I have it recorded on my voicemail. By the way, who names a restaurant after themselves and they are not a famous person or chef of any kind. I consider that duochebaggery of the highest sort. read more

They've come a long way from their opening months. The salads are good tasting and plentiful. Our guest really enjoyed his steak and the Mac & cheese is amazing. Our servers have been terrific each time we've gone. We especially noticed the improvements in decor and seating. read more
