This was my first time having bbq in NC and living in central Texas for a few years now I had thought I was a staunchly beef over pork person for bbq, but boulevard is making me rethink things a bit! WOW is all I can say. I cannot believe it has taken me 2 years of being in Morganton to try this place. I got the two meat combo with the jumbo drumsticks and BBQ. The jumbo drumsticks were hands down the best chicken I have ever had in my life. Smoked to perfection, tender, and the sweet glaze was so good. Not a bad thing to say about anything. After reading reviews about cleanliness, I almost vetoed coming to Boulevard. I'm so so glad we gave it a try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]To address cleanliness, yes, the way the building is laid out is a bit odd. Beyond that, it was extremely clean. I saw nothing that concerned me. We were there for a late dinner and the servers were starting to clean as we finished up and they were certainly doing a good job.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So that addressed, the meat was amazing!!! Quite literally the best smoked chicken I've ever eaten and it's my go to order. We eat bbq everywhere we go, have lived in a few well known bbq states and this was seriously the best. I was honestly blown away by how delicious it was. And the Alabama white sauce was maybe even better than the white sauce I've tried in Alabama! It's perfection. My husband's ribs were perfection as well. Fall off the bone. He also had the smoked drums and they were just as awesome as the half smoked I ordered. To be fair, the sides were fine. Not the best I've had, but tasty enough. Hushpuppies were my fav of the bunch. Okra, chips and beans were fine. The coleslaw tasted like it had an entire jar of black pepper in it, so it was the only true low point. Staff was all super friendly and food came out quickly. Brisket was so dry and chewy even when dipped in au jus and sauce that I had hard time swallowing. Very little flavor and bark was hard as a rock. Okra and fries were over cooked. A very upbeat Halee took our drink order, and returned to take our dinner orders. My husband ordered the chopped BBQ dinner with Mac and cheese and asked if the hush puppies had onions in them. She checked and said no they didn't. Then returned and said that they had onion powder. Then came back and said, sorry they had onions. Also, they're out of MAC and Cheese. Geez! I ordered the chopped brisket sandwich with extra pickles and light on the onions. It was served just disordered however, both of our meat was serve served at room temperature. It wasn't very palatable and I was worried we were going to be sick, but that was not a problem; maybe that's the way it's supposed to be served. I just didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would what I did enjoy however was the corn fritters! I highly recommend those my husband ordered okra which were individually deep-fried and he liked those although I tried them and they were meh. I ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs with fried okra, hush puppies and cole slaw. The okra was very good however the ribs were dry but the sweet sauce helped. The slaw was not that good and bordered on warm. The hushpuppies were small and the flavor I am used to was smothered by the batter. Portions were huge. I will not go there again. read more

Mountain BBQ is where it's at. We have had a tough time finding bbq in charlotte but thankfully this establishment exists and we found it on our way out of Banner Elk after a short weekend with the family. Not only was the staff super friendly but the food was out of bounds ridiculously good. Everything we orders from the kids meal (3 drum sticks and fries) to their wings and bbq was delicious. My wife had the brisket which was so tender and juicy it made me wonder why I didn't order it for myself! For our kid we ordered the 3 drum sticks but they are full size so make sure your kid is ready for this bbq adventure. Finally we finished with the banana pudding which was home made and worth it. All in all good this place is a great yelp helped us find. My only complaint was the floors being super greasy and not mopped correctly which with the wet weather made for interesting walks to your table. read more

Stopped in here for lunch while passing through town. Seated immediately and our waitress was very attentive, kept our water glasses filled. We both ordered the pork platter. Pork was phenomenal-- tender, flavorful but not fatty. Baked beans were a little on the sweet side but with a good flavor. I liked that it was a mix of standard baked beans and a few kidney beans. Crinkle cut fries were cooked perfectly and a generous portion. The standard sauce on the table was a sweet barbecue sauce. The waitress did not ask which sauce we wanted when she took our order although there were several listed on the menu. At our request she brought us two vinegar based sauces -- one spicy and one regular. Husband loved the spicy sauce as well as his jalapeno cheese grits. Overall a great quick lunch. We come here often. While it's not the best BBQ in the world it's definitely not bad and we always have a good experience. I usually get their ribs and like them glazed, but we have also tried the brisket, pork and chicken. I would say the brisket is the weakest link, but it's hard to find great brisket. Their hush puppies are awesome and they give you a million of them. I like their pub chips also and green beans are not bad, hate the coleslaw though. Not sure if it's some special way they make it in the area, but it was pretty bad. Overall it's a good spot and we have never had a bad meal and service is always great. read more

The pulled pork was very basic barbecue pork, not much flavor, and it was served luke-warm. The hush puppies were also served barely warm and had little taste. The onion rings we paid extra for were mostly burnt. Who serves customers burnt food. If it burns when you're cooking it, make more! Overall, this place was barely average. I appreciate the variety of sauce styles and especially they offer a Carolina coastal sauce not just a run of the mill thick red sauce. The prices are VERY reasonable for the quality of food delicious food and from such a nice place. The portions are nice as well. The restaurant itself was extremely clean with a nice atmosphere I'll even say upscale for a Carolina BBQ restaurant. Staff was very friendly! Let's start with the sides. The hush puppies are decent and they give you a ton. Im really happy that I chose the mac & cheese and potato salad; they pair extremely well together. The mac and cheese is creamy, cheesy AND has a nice little spice to it - which I think sets it apart from most BBQ joints. The potato salad, on the other hand, has a little sweetness to it...so they balance well. Its not sugary by any means, but theres enough of that sweet for your taste buds to just pick it up. YUM! The chicken though...the skin was yummy, but that was it. This was hands down the driest damn chicken beast I've ever eaten in my life. Seriously. Maybe we can blame it on the late night order? Regardless of the time of day, quality should remain the same. There are some pretty good BBQ places nearby, so I'm not certain we'll return, but i haven't written them off yet either. ;) read more

Update. Went inside today to eat for lunch. Arrived around 11:15. The waitress took our order about 11:25. We got our food at 12:15. "50 minutes" This is way too long to wait for food especially at lunch. We had a group of 8 and when we first went in, the restaurant was almost empty. Also, the waitress didn't update us on the status of our food or refill our drinks. She was very poorly trained or maybe I should say she had no training. The other thing she did was when she took our order, she stood at the end of the table so if you were at the other end of the table giving your order, it was very awkward and you had to tell your order to everyone at the table and the surrounding tables. She should have walked around to each person to take their order. We weren't at a booth. After we finally got our food, it was good but the service was beyond bad. read more
