Ate here again last night and once again it was excellent! Started with a troutdale vodka martini with blue cheese stuffed olives and it comes with a chilled shot of whiskey for only $15. Partner had a double jack and ginger ale. For meals, I had the salmon Oscar special served over grilled asparagus with crab meat on top and a side of Brussel sprouts as well as a fresh wedge salad. Partner ordered the NY strip cooked a perfect medium rare as ordered with smashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was delicious as evidence of our empty plates. The finale was 2 chocolate martinis which was a perfect dessert! Some restaurants are hit or miss but this place has always been a home run for us! Great service, great atmosphere!!! Food was ok. Cream corn tasted like a candle smells. Wedge and mahi mahi were pretty good! Steak was well cooked but salty. Brussels sprouts were sooo salty, almost difficulty to eat. Drinks were tasty. Service was probably one of the slowest places we've ever been. Our guy may have been training (I know for a fact he wasn't 21 yet) but it took forever to get anything- drinks, water, apps, someone to take our order. It took 45 min to get our check. Such an adorable find while visiting Bristol!!! The setting is nothing less than picturesque, the staff is so hospitable that you feel as if you're visiting someone's home, and the food offers a great variety so you can ensure everyone will be pleased! We sat outside on the terrace but I'm super interested in what the ambience of dining inside would be as it seems it's an experience in itself. Very disappointed with our meals. First off, the menu online has not been updated with a few items. Minor issue. Just disappointed I couldn't get Chilian Seabass. Opted for Mahi Mahi. Finally tried the brunch and I personally will be back! The brunch menu has a wide variety and everything is good. The cocktails/drinks were nothing special or different than any other place. Our server was good until she got busy with a bunch of tables at the same and she was working the bar. Definitely think she needed help or another server! I give the food 4 Stars - they had a buffet with higher quality foods, its difficult to keep a buffet "fresh" - they did a great job! Personal Service - I am going to give that 3 stars, but I am thinking that you young waiter was still learning. Not enough attention to detail, left menus on the table after serving us, table was to small for that and not intended to be left. We were left unattended for to long, we were done and had not seen the waiter for 15 min, waited another 10 min to get the check. I am only posting this so that should this young waiter read this he can learn from the post - he still got a nice tip! Hospitality - We were greeted by a nice simile, friendly personality. The ambience is an old house made into a restaurant. We were seated in an small room with perhaps 6 tables - very quaint. During the meal, either the own or the manager came into the room and greeted the diners and made small talked with every table but ours?! He left and came back a few minutes later, help with odd and ends, cleaning a table etc. He continue to talk to the others, walked past our table three times without even looking at us - so yes I was like "am I being snubbed?" At the end of the meal, I made my way to the lavatory, the gentleman and I happen to cross paths in the hallway. He simply made eye contact with me and gave me a nodded. Now I will share that I overheard him say that the had recent shoulder surgery, so perhaps he was was in a lot of pain. This was our experience as it happened - am I going back? You bet! The food is buffet quality at best. My sea bass was obviously cut in half and maybe 4 Oz, on top of greasy risotto that was described on the menu as having spinach and cherry tomatoes. It was garnished with 2 cherry tomatoes and was at least 30% chopped onions. I'm allergic to onions and rely on menu descriptions to avoid them. Appetizer of mussels tasted freezer burnt. They were served with ONE dinner roll cut into slices with a thing of butter...which was filled with chopped onions. The response was adequate, as our bill was taken care of, but only after we were lectured about the use of garlic and onions in fine dining. The pimento cheese grits and crab cake on the steak Oscar was amazing as was the wedge salad.I ordered a apple Martini, the server said they may not have the sour apple pucker, I was specific on the drink but said I'd take a margarita if they didn't have it, he came back later with drinks and he had what was needed to make the drink The bad: I asked for extra dressing, it never came and not one of the steaks were cooked as we requested. The 10 oz filet was ordered medium it was well done and gritty, and had a char taste as if it had gotten next to coals on the grill. ‍ The steaks on the Oscar were all over cooked and well done. There are better steaks to be had in the area or in my grill at home. I would never order a steak there. Not a greeting, No hello, Welcome to J Frank, how are you, are you celebrating anything special have you ever been here.. NOTHING. I felt like we were a complete inconvenience to this man. He gets menus and says follow me, we proceed up stairs. It was not until 7:17, my friend goes back down to tell them we are upstairs. In another 5 minutes Josh comes up and says he was sorry no one told him there was anyone up there but he was take care of us. I realize that we are in a pandemic and some over worked staff may be a problem, but this was the first time for us to come to this restaurant. We have in the area and within a short drive many options and I was choosing to spend my money with J Frank. And I was left soooooo incredibly disappointed and dissatisfied. There was live entertainment outside for the people dining on the porch. They played a LOT of Lionel Richie on the inside. Like...a lot. For a while there it felt like we were either at a fan club meeting...or maybe at his mom's house. No "Dancing On The Ceiling", though. I was so excited to finally eat here after hearing so many people talk about how great this upscale restaurant is. So it's very disappointing how disappointed I was. I believe this is just an old house where people like to be seen. The waitress was wonderful and the drinks were good, unfortunately those were the only positives. Outdated furnishings and decor. There is antique decor and then there is we no longer give a shit...well welcome to the second half. Which leads us to the food... Overpriced banquet food would be a nice description. Seafood pasta extremely El dente, couldn't find the miniscule lobster they stated was in it, scallops nonedible they were hard as a rock and a very heavy cream sauce to cover it all up. Prime rib was the thinnest cut we have ever come across and zero seasoning. Rolls came out "fresh" but quickly turned to rubber...almost tasted microwaved. Owners may want to try Timber in Johnson City or the new tavern on 6th to taste and visualize what modern day cuisine is about. My wife and I celebrated our 33 wedding anniversary at J Frank. We had a good experience the moment we walked through the door. The door was held for us as we walked into this 19th-century Victorian house. We celebrated our anniversary with the sea bass and NY strip. The meal began with a fresh green salad (If you like blue cheese dressing, you will like their rendition, made with a hint of cayenne). Finley, a chef who knows how to prepare aspergrass. Back to the steak, it was dry, aged, seared, and cooked medium perfectly seasoned. We topped of our meal with a piece of white chocolate cheese cake and a cup of decaf coffee. This is my second time at JFrank's for Sunday Brunch. I can't believe I didn't post a review in the first time. Always like to visit locally-owned restaurants when I'm in town. Brunch is outstanding and appropriately priced for the selection and quality of the buffet, around $20. I suggest reservations, even though we were seated immediately. Besides a nice selection of breakfast cocktails that can be ordered from the menu, the coffee and tea are good, and they have a MARVELOUS fresh juice smorgasbord!! I'm talking banana, papaya, guava, and watermelon in addition to the usual - and all freshly squeezed. See my picture. It's amazing. The breakfast buffet has a hot bar with eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and frittata. The cold bar has fresh fruit, smoked salmon with all the trimmings, salmon mousse, and charcuterie. PLUS a made to order omelette station, and Belgian waffles with fruit toppings and a delicious selection of warm syrups. YUM!!! Cross over into the lunch room and enjoy traditional salad, freshly baked breads and pastries (last time I had a scone, and this time it was a delicious cinnamon and sugar beignet). The hot far in this room includes a carving station with both a beef and poultry option. The hot bar has fish and assorted vegetables. This time we had creamed corn, collard greens, Brussels sprouts, scalloped potatoes, and a pasta, mac and cheese, I think. I tried everything with the exception of the mac & cheese and each dish was absolutely delicious. Well seasoned, but not too salty, and vegetables were crisp tender. Collard greens were seasoned with a bit of vinegar. Desserts are in this room also. This week offered both chocolate, strawberry and lemon cakes, and a parfait in an individual cup. Of course, I sampled each of them. One was better than the next and I just can't tell you which one was my favorite. I guess I will have to go back and try again. The service is outstanding, and the chef and restaurant management are readily available and attentive. Stop by! Enjoy your meal, and thank the staff. I hear the Chilean Seabass is fantastic. A friend recommended this restaurant for a birthday celebration. We were not disappointed. I could have just eaten the shrimp for an entree, they were so good especialy with the cocktail sauce. Biscuits were cold as if they had been kept in the fridge. Sausage gravy tasted severely burnt with a super sugary aftertaste.. very strange! The waitress only came to the table when required, I.e., to serve food and present the check, never came to check on us after the entrees were served. If she had came back, I would have sent the steak back, it's bad business to destroy an expensive piece of meat and expect the customer to eat it. The atmosphere, an old home with beautiful porch seating as well. My husband had the blackened chicken fettuccini. He needed a couple of adjustments to the meal due to dietary restrictions and they were super accommodating. I had the 5 oz filet with pimento grits and corn sides.
