We will not be back to this place.... My bf ordered beef nachos and a order of cheese sauce with chips. I ordered a burrito with shrimp, octopus, a whole poblano, avocado, shredded cheese all inside the burrito. I also asked for a lot of limes on the side. They came out after we took our order to go so he could check on it because he asked me numerous times about the cheese I wanted. I had said I do not want anything on top of my burrito and hate the liquid cheese. The person who made my burrito used the liquid cheese, similar to nacho cheese consistency on top. No shredded cheese inside. So they didn't give my bf his cheese sauce he paid for. My burrito was nasty. They didn't put a whole poblano, the first half of the burrito had a few small pieces of poblano, barely any octopus, no shredded cheese inside, they didn't give me any limes. I HATE this crap cheese sauce that "mexican" food places use in Tennessee. Legit Mexican food places don't use this fake liquid cheese. My bf said his nachos were good. Problem is.. I was on the toilet all night because of this cheese. I say this because it was the same cheese they put on his nachos and... he was sick to his stomach for the rest of the night and then he had his turn on the toilet. read more

As we wend our way to Florida, we spend the night in Bristol for one main reason. This restaurant! (The Hilton Garden Inn hits all the marks too, but as I have nothing to add I'm not updating that review.) My husband ordered five enchiladas each with a different stuffing. While delicious, unless you haven't eaten since last Thursday, who can consume so many enchiladas?! I shouldn't talk. The house special quesadilla -- always excellent -- is a lot of food. Ever resourceful, I took half back, put the chicken and peppers on a bagel and ate it for breakfast! (Note to self AND my husband: next time let's split one and maybe forego the steak and chicken. Chorizo and shrimp?!) Moving on, the salsa bar is great with smooth, chunky, mild and spicy salsas. That's not counting the warm bean spread brought to the table with their thin and crisp chips. Our margaritas -- $6 each -- are not only good but pretty, topped with berries and a flower. Here it is, Monday night -- not a typical going-out day of the week -- and the place is busy with locals. I was there during lunch the restaurant was very clean and inviting. Our waiter was quick to our table asking what we would like to drink. My daughter ordered the salmon salad it was beautifully plated and looked amazing. I ordered the Cabo shrimp soft tacos. These tacos were the best tacos I have ever eaten. It was served with a tiny bowl of black beans that were definitely home made because of so much flavor. It's been a few days and I'm already craving those shrimp Tacos. Location in a strip mall in Bristol, VA. It was big and popular. The prices were so inexpensive and the food was outstanding. The service was ok but wasn't attentive. We had to search for our waiter to get his attention. A basket of chips and sauce was served. We ordered: 5*Fajitas Del Mar-it included scallops, fish and shrimp. It was served on a sizzling skillet along with onions, peppers, and tomatoes, rice, beans, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, and 3 flour tortillas. The portion was huge , it was enough for two people. scallops, fish and shrimp were cooked perfectly, very tender and tasty. I would order it again. 4*Vegetarian burrito: was pretty good. read more

Earnestly shocked that this concept has been successful based on my one & only visit (won't go back). The food was lackluster, devoid of any real flavor/seasoning. The atmosphere is loud due to the refitting of the space. Proud supporter of local restaurants.... Just not this one. The food was absolutely excellent and I must recommend the Michelada it was over the top and one of the best I've ever had. Porto Nuevo Dip appetizer is a must try! Camarones a La Diabla was a little spicier than I expected (but still not too bad) - all the food was very well prepared and executed. Simply delicious. There's a salsa bar for your chips with different types of salsa to try, each of them taste very well made, none of them tasted like mass produced goyslop. I'll start by saying I am not a big fan of Mexican food. We have eaten at both locations (Abingdon and Bristol) Both restaurants were very good. This time I got the seafood fajita (shrimp, scallops and fish) on a sizzling plate of peppers, onions and tomatoes, except I substituted the tomatoes for mushrooms. As another review said...the seafood was cooked perfectly. I also enjoyed a top shelf margarita. My partner got the La Superior...I think it was a burrito and it's the same meal he had In Abingdon. We sat at the bar in both places and had great service from both bartenders. The restaurants themselves are a little too bright for my taste, but clean and comfortable. We will probably just go to the Bristol restaurant because it's closer to us. I definitely recommend either place even if you aren't a big fan of Mexican food because the menu is huge. read more

This was the only sit down Mexican spot I could find when I moved here and it was good. Visited multiple times, but the last time I took my entire work team and anyone that ate beef ended up with food poisoning including myself. It was awful! Our party of 11 ate here in late December 2024. The cheese/bean dip and salsa bar were good and recommended by locals. Food, overall, was good although I thought the chicken in enchiladas was a bit bland. Place was busy and popular with good beer and nice atmosphere. Puerto Nuevo In Banner Elk has much better food and friendly/professional staff than other places, esp Holy Smokes/W Wolf Lodge on Beech Mtn. HSmokes /WWL had weak food (BBQ, sandwiches /fudge, absurd prices, and unprofessional staff. Mike at White Wolf actually berated a teenager over the phone after WWL staff lost receipt and manager Trisha makes up fake reviews on Yelp and other sites. How can you trust food when they fabricate reviews to trick customers? Avoid Holy Smokes/WW Lodge. Eat at Puerto Nuevo instead. When you want to eat, especially Mexican while at Banner Elk/Beech, go to Puerto Nuevo. Nice atmosphere and solid Mexican at fair prices. read more

Good food , prices, cleanliness and decor. Our first time dining here and the menu was extensive. Hard to decide what to choose what to order. Food was above average and service was pretty good. Good salsa and dip. Of note is that the tortilla chips were hot and fresh. I did get a lemon on my iced tea glass that was ordered without lemon (that happens almost 50% of the time to me no matter where I dine...). I also had to ask for a few things along the way that should have been automatic. Also of note were the clean bathrooms. If I could give a 4.5 rating I would. We will go back again. read more

Excellent service and friendly, they went above and beyond at the restaurant at St. Paul VA but the Bristol location is the same large salsa bar loaded with different hot sauces along with the great smooth salsa. Tried the great soup at St. Paul tasted good but a little bland so I took it home and added lime juice and more heat, 4/5 for soup. Got the ACP and Fajitas at Bristol and they give you a decent amount and has a good amount of cheese sauce on the ACP, will be back it's a good Mexican place just a little bland u can fix with pepper and salt and the place looks upscale with best service I had at Mexican restaurant. read more

Our club was meeting at the Puerto Nuevo restaurant in Elizabethton,TN the fourth Tuesday of every month. We will no longer be eating there because the staff refused to turn down the music, our room was supposed to be private, and they put another party in the room, staff service wasn't very good and they were not very attentive to our needs. I give this place three stars because both service and food are variable, although service more so. On last visit server took our order and a runner brought out food. We never saw our server again until another server happened by and noticed our drink glasses were empty. This was 20 minutes after we got our food. We still go there occasionally, if in the neighborhood, but would never make it a destination if going out for lunch or dinner. Just nothing special about it and the atmosphere is simply bland. read more

Wifey heard about this place from an acquaintance who lives past time in TN and part time in Southern Mexico. Believe the great reviews. PN is legit for both seafood and Mexican food. We had great service and the portions were enormous for the Seafood Platter and Mexican Tacos. We tried several things and they were all very good. What we had and saw was Mexican food, not Tex-Mex. This is an important distinction for many, so I mention it for them. Me? I don't care as long as it's delicious and there's plenty of it! One year into Covid and they have the distancing, masks & gloves, and even plenty of large mandatory gloves at the salsa bar. But here the review: We got the lunch Shrimp platter .. $12.95 .. boss big butterflied shrimp perfectly battered and cooked.. PERFECTLY.. crunchy , perfectly golden brown and still moist inside.. the chefs know what their doing!! We also got the grilled shrimp fajita platter .. also banging. The welcoming nachos were warm and the quest dip was very good .. a good change up from tasteless salsa some mexican restaurants offer with the welcoming nacho plate. Service was fast and friendly.. Wow-- great Mexican! Fresh salsa bar, waitstaff excellent, best we have had in a long time!

Very welcoming staff with some good food. They serve their chips with queso and refried beans. They have a salsa bar with a great selection of different types of salsas, everything from mild to extra spicy. We ordered the Tacos de carne Asada and Chili Relleños. The steak was tender and juicy. The Chili Relleños were very delicious and would definitely recommend for those who want to try a little something different. read more

We were traveling when we spent the night in Bristol and happened upon this restaurant. Chips were served with a bean dip but they have a salsa bar so you can pick your dip depending on your taste. Our meals were served promptly. It was excellent and they were fairly large portions. The house margarita was the bomb! Would definitely eat here again. read more

Great Mexican cuisine! The complimentary chips were really thin and light but had great flavor with the queso sauce. Our "medium" margaritas were large by most restaurant standards and were also delicious. We ordered the steak/chicken fajita dinner for two. I've been twice and the portions are huge. There is a salsa bar and your table will get chips and bean dip. Puerto Nuevo is a little pricey but the setting and service are great. We stopped here on a trip to Nashville. What a pleasant surprise it appears to be in old Outback restaurant , which is now a Mexican restaurant. The food was excellent, portion sizes were enormous, and the drinks could use a little more alcohol. Since we travel in Nashville often, this will become a regular stop. read more

I'll start this off like this NEVER ORDER SEAFOOD FROM A MEXICAN RESTAURANT!!!! Me and my wife wanted to try something different and ordered the snow crab. She got her own order and so did I. It came with sausage,shrimp and corn plus the snow crab When it came out the claw only had 3 legs on it and they didn't have meat in them what so ever!!!! We told our waiter and he want to go grab us some more but only brought use out one claw to share and still only had 3 legs on it and still no meat!!! Plus on top of that our cheese dip was ice cold still had chunks of hard CHESSE DIP in side of it.
