We were in town visiting the area with friends. They took us to Borderline Billiards (see their…read moreown review), and wanted to get some lunch. State line bar and grill is just a few doors down. This grill, it appears, to be in a converted warehouse space. It is likely the whole block was a warehouse which was sectioned into separate commercial properties. It has 20' ceilings with tin ceiling tiles and nice industrial wood flooring. They have live music and karaoke nights. They have a nice selection of food. Seafood, burgers, quesadillas, wings, salads, wraps ... I tried their mushroom Swiss burger which was huge, juicy and delicious. I needed to cut it in half to figure a way to attack it and a lot of napkins. A fun fact: it is the State line grill because it is in Bristol TN but you cross the street and you are in Bristol VA! If you are in the area, I highly recommend stopping in to try it out.

Sidewalks are partly covered so weather is not an issue, but crowds would make the trip more difficult. There are also several street buskers which can draw crowds, so just be aware and not in a hurry. You enter on the corner into the main seating area which is sort of separated by a hostess stand and the back of a booth. We were greeted right away and told to sit wherever we wanted. Seating is a mix of booths and tables and we selected a booth next to the window. Our server came right away and took our drink orders. There is also a board next to the hostess stand with listed specials. Looking over the menu, these were just regular menu items at regular prices. Our server returned and took our food order. The food took about 20 minutes to arrive, which was a little longer than expected. The bbq pork sandwich was dry and did not have a lot of flavor. The bun was fine but the dry meat made it harder to chew and took a lot of water to finish. In addition, the homemade chips were very crispy and salty. This plate left me parched even after drinking three glasses of water. The burger, however, was good. The meat was fairly juicy and toppings were fresh. The same homemade chips accompanied the burger and were also crispy and salty. The bathroom was in poor condition and appeared not to have been cleaned in some time. This was brought to our server's attention, who did not seem too concerned. Maybe this is a good place if you are seeking out music and alcohol, but there are many other options if all you want is lunch.

Since it's located inside the casino, it's not a quiet or intimate dining experience, but that fit the mood of our evening just fine. Our server, Kansas, was friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout our meal. Service was prompt, and we felt well taken care of. I ordered the Caesar salad with salmon, and my husband had the Caesar salad with steak. Both entrées were outstanding. One thing I appreciate about Hard Rock Cafe is the consistency of the food and the generous portion sizes, and this visit was no exception. A fun part of the experience was watching the band warm up for the evening. There's also a bar area where guests can order from the menu while enjoying the live music. Combined with the casino, it offers more than just a restaurant meal if you're looking for a night out. The only minor drawback is that the casino that surrounds the Cafe is a smoking area. However, we didn't notice it permeating the Cafe. Overall, we had a very enjoyable experience and would gladly return.

We're hoping to see the Arizona / Houston basketball game but it wasn't on any screen. Asked the bartender and he quickly got the huge TV in front of switched! He definitely gets points for this. For dinner we split the nachos and though I would have loved to have some ground beef on it didn't have that option and didn't want steak. Having said that, the portion was huge and plenty for two people. There is a stage and the bar is well positioned to enjoy the band that was playing.

The teriyaki bowl was pretty good though with various flavors of the sauces and food components. Unfortunately, as i left I used the men's room and while it was clean neither of the automatic soap squirt dispensers could be coaxed into operating with any amount of prestidigitation. A particularly disturbing experience as I had followed a kitchen crew member into the men's room who had apparently gone to to take a dump. So I guess the best he will be able to do is to maybe rinse his hands prior to returning to the kitchen??? DOUBLE YUCK. I did let the bar manager know on the way out and she did leave to go look into the soap issue. It appears to be a light, fun, and trendy place reminiscent of the Fridays restaurants but with an updated and current atmosphere inside. Probably a good place to bring a group gathering.

However, this place clearly gets packed in the evening. There were lots of brews and ciders. They seem to rotate quite a bit, and there's a mix between local options and options from other states. A huge plus is very LGBTQ+ friendly without explicitly being a queer spot. Rainbows everywhere. The bartender told us that a local podcast offered to make them coasters and he said yes, but only if they make them as queer as possible. They were playing some alt music on a record. Also, locals were super friendly and engaged us tourists in convo. Lastly, there's a limited selection of games- so we played a little trivia game and had fun with it. Overall, I would definitely include this spot when bar hopping again. It is an easy walking distance of a lot of great stuff and it was easy enough to get to, even though it isn't on the main drag. It's on a small, one way side street but there was parking nearby. When we approached the front door we instantly noticed they were LGBTQ+ friendly which made it even better. Our stop was early in the evening, probably around 5 so it wasn't busy. We were greeted by a friendly bartender and he gave us time to look over the menu. My first choice was the Limonada Hard Italian Soda. This was absolutely delicious! The tartness from the lemons was noticeable but not over powering and this was a very drinkable beverage. I don't like seltzers at all, yes this wasn't a seltzer but it did have a bit of carbonation that I did not mind. The other customers inside were friendly but not awkward, especially for us being the only 2 women in there at the moment the bartender was super friendly and they had a nice selection of local brews from the area. My wife ordered a peanut butter and jelly beer from the Knoxville TN area as her 2nd drink. PB & J beer doesn't sound so appealing but OMG it was phenomenal. It was the perfect balance and tasted like a PB&J liquid sandwich. Honestly I can wait until I find some in the store nearby. This is a nice, no frills, friendly stop yo grab a drink in Bristol.

There is ample parking. Walking to the building is just a short few feet, and the building looks deceiving. Once you reach the front porch area you will have a better appreciation for this place. There's a building with a porch overhang that has lots of rocking chairs facing the mountain views, then there's poly furniture (one with an umbrella), picnic tables, a covered porch area, an indoor area, and outdoor patio area. The covered outdoor patio has protective sides for bad weather if needed, as well as 3 TVs. This place is absolutely gorgeous. Tons of seating options. They had shaded areas to help you stay cool and comfortable. They do have large heaters and fire pits which would be fantastic for a fall visit and I can only imagine the colorful views at that time of year. There are several options on tap of their coders. You can get a full pour or a flight. The flight was great so that we could try them all. They were tasty. The blood orange was our favorite! They also carry local beers, as well as a case of nonalcoholic beverages. There is a food truck with crab choices that is available for purchase (crab melt, crab pretzel, etc). The prices weren't bad at all. We didn't order anything so can't comment on the quality. They also have chips and suck inside the tap house, as well as shorts and some small merch for sale. The staff is absolutely fantastic and they are very knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. You can tell that not only their talent is thrown into this place, but also their whole heart. They have intentionally made this place a great place to be and they make sure that everyone feels welcomed. Not sure if you can bring in outside food or not. I did see some people with bags that had kids. Call and ask as this would be a terrific gathering place to meet people or a great place to perch with a book or a podcast/music in your ears. You could even work up on this little nature oasis. It would be a super cool place to have a party, shower, or even a wedding if it was a small one. Such a vibe here.
