Deconstructed Wellington
John M.

From the time you walk into the restaurant the beautiful woods making up the walls, the bar area to the hostess station you know this place is special. The hostess station was, surprisingly, manned by two delightful women named Taylor. One of them led us to our table. We were greeted at our table by Jessi who said she would take care of us, and she did in a very friendly and professional manner. My wife, who was celebrating her birthday, ordered the Deconstructed Wellington. A meal she had savored here on our last visit and knew she had to have again. I ordered the Crispy Catfish, small nuggets of catfish coated in a cornmeal breading. The dish was served with Collard Greens and Pimento Cheese Grits. Though I'm not a fan of pimento cheese the grits were wonderful (as evidenced by my clean plate). This is a dish that I would highly recommend. We skipped desert, as the meals were far too good and plentiful to safe space. We're heading back to the restaurant on Sunday to sample their breakfast menu. Can't wait.

My wife and I had been looking forward to dining at Wellingtons. Personally, I had been looking forward to the deconstructed Wellington. Unfortunately, our experience was far from expectations. Our starters were a Caesar salad and house salad. These were the highlights of the entire meal. My wife had the Walleye with a side of Jasmine rice. The walleye was overcooked and under seasoned. The Jasmine rice was a bit undercooked. She could not finish the fish or the rice. I had the deconstructed Wellington. It was cooked perfectly. However, the steak was not seasoned and lacked flavor. Half way through the steak I finally had a taste of seasoning that was crammed into the center of the steak. This and the balsamic reduction was the only flavor on the entire plate. The duck fat pastry was also bland. For dessert we ordered the Crème Brûlée and a brownie . The crème brûlée had a very light hint of vanilla and tasted like a simple custard the brownie was dry (Luckily it came with ice cream.) The ambiance was very nice. What you would expect from an upscale restaurant. The service wasn't very personable. Almost like the server did not want to be there. Would rate the food a one and the service a two. However, we are back giving the restaurant a second chance at breakfast.

Amazing food! Amazing service! Amazing ambiance! Wow!! This hotel is fabulous and the restaurant is absolutely amazing!! The restaurant is classy and romantic! They have decorated for Christmas With beautiful trees! The dimly lit romantic setting is perfect for a special occasion. My husband had the "deconstructed" beef Wellington was out of this world crazy good! He said it was the best steak he has had in a restaurant! I had the chickpea salad with orange vinaigrette and roasted sweet potatoes was a culinary delight The petite filet with mashed potatoes and the best green beans was perfect! We normally don't get dessert but when they have crème brûlée on the menu, i had to try it. The chef changed up the flavor daily. I loved it. My husband had the cheese cake which also changes flavor daily and this was a thanksgiving special with berries and nuts which wowed the taste buds! Our waitress Tara was very professional and great timing. The place is a must if you're in Johnson City!

Sweet potatoes, mushrooms, deconstructed Wellington and dry aged NY strip

I got a deconstructed Wellington and the puff pastry literally dissolved when you cut it. The reduction was good and the filet was ok definitely needed salt. Definitely did not taste like Wellington which I was going to have at "Wellingtons" My husband had a dry aged NY strip and while the steak was cooked perfectly there was no seasoning for being dry aged. He had to add salt and pepper. Ugh Such a let down, we had the sweet potatoes and mushrooms, they were ok only should have been served hot. We got our cheesecake to go, so we'll see. We stayed at the hotel and planned for this special dinner for our 20 yr anniversary, only to be disappointed and feel like we just wasted our hard earned money.

In town for work and they recommend that we stay at the Carnegie Hotel. The Carnegie hotel is where Wellington's restaurant is located. I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, the drink selection, the service and the food. Ambiance: Hotel and the restaurant is retro style so, the bar area reminds you of an old speak easy during prohibition. The drink selection: the bar staff is amazing and they make great drinks. If you like bourbon there is good chance they have it! The food was perfectly prepared! I had grilled salmon, Brussel sprouts and whipped sweet potatoes and goat cheese. That's right they whipped the mash potatoes with goat cheese and it was PHENOMENAL! This restaurant believes in service, the young lady in the bar area was very knowledgeable about bourbons and the dishes being offered. I will be back!

Biscuits and gravy! Huge portions and look at the eggs, sausage and fries on the side!

Two flavorful meals at this restaurant. Excellent service by Jessie and also Kayla. Our evening meal was in the terrace. We enjoyed great selections of food. Some in our party enjoyed the cocktails and drinks menu. Tremendous list of whiskeys. they were out of Jack Daniels. So I'll post some photos of breakfast. I forgot to take photos of the dinner. Recommend the Salmon with maple syrup mashed sweet potatoes and roasted Brussels Sprouts. Also we ate breakfast there. Excellent choices and portions.

Disappointing. Omelet more basic than $14 menu offering would have been $24. Use common sense and be nice about it please.

Solid and unpretentious with a limited but tasty menu of traditional mainstream offerings. Very attentive waitstaff. Why was it not busier?

This place was close to where we were having dinner at so we walked over to the place. Just walk in to the building and someone will greet you and they'll take you behind the bookshelf where you can't seat yourself. We took some of the low seats. Nothing wrong with that we were greeted with water so we had to decide what we wanted to drink. Highly recommend that you use your phone since the menus are QR code. Prices were pretty fair for the speakeasy. Restrooms were absolutely clean. A few things I noticed that kind of dropped a few Stars was that the Speakeasy was absolutely cold!It had to be about 60° inside. It took a long time for us to be served. Lastly, I noticed some of the staff drinking behind the bar. People here are absolutely friendly , you got all walks of life here and everyone here is having a great time. The staff are dressed for the occasion and it does feel intimate being inside this speakeasy. Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back here again. After leaving, you leave through the back door. I do believe that the prices were a bit High compared to other visits of speakeasies I've been to but that's more so on Tennessee's part for the way they Factor checks.

Naturally I bought a ticket weeks in advance and got out my "Janet" costume. Rocky Horror is my not so secret secret love and I've been to dozens and dozens of performances throughout the southeast and in the UK. A girlfriend joined me and we met up at Capone's. The bar itself was really beautiful. A wall of booths lined the left and the substantial bar was parallel. The bouncers checked us in online and we got our wristbands with no issue. Drinks were up first and as I had a 30 minute drive back to Kingsport, I limited myself to one, but it was really good! Top shelf gin and soda with extra lime (to cover up the gin flavor - haha!) We moved beyond the bar into the second lower level space which was a mini/performance venue. The kind I frequented in high school and college (before kids, really...) and we staked out a place at the front so we could see the whole thing. Partially because I freaking love Rocky Horror and partially because my girlfriend is super petite and wouldn't be able to see over anyone's head if we didn't. I was delighted that there was an opening band. Having no idea what to expect I thought it was a bonus. However the bigger surprise was that the opening band was part of the Rocky cast! It ended up being a fantastic musical rendering of the movie and musicals I have seen before, complete with costumes and a word for word script recitation along with all musical numbers. We were blown away. I wish I could have gone back again for a chill evening at the bar, but I give it my full approval. The drinks were good, the aesthetic is really sumptuous and pretty, the restrooms were clean and the show was super fun!!! I'll make it back next time I'm in Kingsport or JC.
