When you are greeted by a smiling friendly staff member you know the night will be good. Our first visit to "the Possum". It feels and looks like your little neighborhood pub. The menu is concise but varied and we were surprised at the vegan/vegetarian/gluten free noted choices We tried the huge crispy onion rings, the soup of the week, the fish and chips and the ploughman's lunch. I would recommend all of them and especially when washed down with a Guinness. Ask for the special sauces to dip your chips - curry and a great tartar sauce. The kitchen seems to enjoy fixing interesting takes on traditional dishes also so trust them and see how it goes. You'll be happy. read more

Brian, the B&B owner recommended this place right down from his B&B. So glad he did walked right in and got a table. Super cute place you order at the bar. They're very friendly. We ordered the shepherds pie split it because it came with a salad too, which was perfect. We ended up getting two beers. It was great for an evening to just sit back and enjoy. Was in Jonesborough on a Sunday for a theater matinee and this restaurant was literally the only one open!! The staff is very friendly. The menu is extremely limited and prices a little high for the amount of food. My friend had a salad with chicken thighs which was interesting because you usually don't see chicken thighs on the menu. I had the Ploughman's Lunch. It comes with cured meat (pork) which I don't eat so they substituted chicken thighs instead. The platter was tasty but very tiny portions of chutney, cheese, and baked beans. It's a Public House with a cute interior. It would be nice if they added more food to their menu. read more

For the price, I was surprised that there wasn't any table service. Instead, you have to get up, go to the counter, and order like you're at a sandwich shop. It also took quite a while for our food to arrive. I ordered the fish and chips, and I found them to be very bland and incredibly greasy. Overall, I felt this restaurant was overpriced for the area, the ambiance, and the overall experience. We were all pretty disappointed, and none of us even finished half of our meals because everything was just so greasy. I also tried the borscht. I've always wanted to taste it because I'd read so much about it. I like beets and know they have an earthy flavor, but this honestly tasted like plain beets sitting in hot water. We love the Opossum's Tale! Food is tasty and plentiful. My favorite is the fish and chips. Beer list varies. My family likes trying new brews but I stick with Guinness. You order at the counter and food and drink are delivered to your table in a timely manner. It's often busy and crowded so we look forward to the expansion of their restaurant space. If you want something different try the The Opossum's Tale in Historic Jonesborough! I ordered take out so this is a small plate that I dished out at home (the servings were larger than you see.) I was craving some beans and greens and thought I'd try the gluten free veggie fritters with beet-ginger toum sauce. It was mouth watering good!! We've eaten at The Opossum's 3 times. IMO, the best meal is the Ploughman's dinner, with the Dubliner cheese being the best part of the meal. Keep in mind that the place is small and usually crowded, if not packed. read more

Great food, good service, the atmosphere is welcoming and cozy. Great addition to the town. The fried cauliflower was hot and not great, the mashed potatoes were made with real potatoes and the gravy made the meal. Will definitely be back. read more
