I wish I'd discovered this store 10 years ago. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by a salesclerk, who then helped me locate all the disparate items I was looking for. If there was a comparable item that sold for less, he let me know about it. I was in and out of there in 20 minutes with all my purchases. At Walmart or Lowe's it would have been at least an hour. Got a copy of my mailbox key made here when I could not get it done at Home Depot or Lowes. The staff was very nice and helpful.

I just wish every store I shop at had as good of customer service as JE Rice. We bought a GE Washer and Dryer from them in 2010. We needed a repair on it in 2011, but GE said they needed a receipt as a proof of purchase to complete the repair. Well, I couldn't find my receipt, so I desperately called JE Rice. They were *extremely* helpful ... my receipt was a bit hard to find because of an issue with my name (my fault), but they looked and looked, found it and faxed it over to me, and not once did they sound like it was any trouble. Imagine trying to go to Best Buy and asking for that? You'd probably get a smart a** employee rolling eyes and huffing, not wanting to help, AND, they would not be able to produce a receipt. This is why I try to support local, small businesses rather than the big ones - the customer service cannot be beat! In fact, we need a new fridge. Guess where we will be purchasing it? Just got an excellent deal on a Harman Gas Stove that was a display model, never used. They have to discontinue certain models because they don't have a reliable installer. We will be using this in the home we will build on WV. read more

This is such a great go-to store. I"ve gone here numerous times so I can avoid the long lines and bad service at Home Depot or Lowes. Everybody is very helpful, and you can get in and out quickly, which is perfect when I stop by on my lunch hour. Even the bigger stores recommend this place...as they should! read more

This place is great. It has a little bit of everything. Much better than searching all over Home Depot for the little odds and ends.

Have been coming here since the 70's. They know how to do customer service here. The large box chains can learn a thing or two from them. The prices can be a little higher but in my opinion competitive. If there is an employee not busy when you walk in they will ALWAYS approach asking if they can help. Kudos to JE Rice read more

I went to a big box store to get 24 keys made for our new offices, 12 each of two keys, to be exact. I brought them back to the office and not one of them worked. NOT ONE! That is my experience with big box stores so I don't know why I repeated the same experience when I should have known better. That said, we just moved our offices to Manassas so I can use the excuse that I wasn't yet in the "Old Manassas" frame of mind, as another reviewer defined. But that has been cured. My husband and I bought our first wood stove at J. E. Rice forty years ago, bought our second wood stove from J. E. Rice 20 years ago. J. E. Rice "don't carry no junk!" If you want something of good quality J. E. Rice will have it or get it for you. The biggest treasure at J. E. Rice is when I know what sort of thing I need but don't know what it is called, or if there is such a thing. They are genius. If you have a question and go in the big box store it's like looking for a needle in a haystack to find an associate, let alone a knowledgable associate. I am impressed by the associates at J. E. Rice. The old timers are gold mines of hardware wisdom and the young folk are delightful. read more

Nice to get some genuine real help from people who know and care.

I grew up in Manassas. I knew Mr. Rice before he passed away. I know his children. I am 53 years old. Just wanted to give you my background. I was a spoiled kid but grew to a responsible adult. I have worked on Wall Street and opened night clubs around the country in my lifetime. I have moved back to Manassas in my later years without regret. Every time I have an issue with anything in my house I go to JE Rice. If they can't fix the issue they send me to someone who can. If they don't carry a product, they tell me who does, If it is something beyond a product, they recommend who can fix it. Isn't that what we all hope for when things go wrong in our homes? Do you get that at a big box store? They are good for a handshake and if you are a regular a little ribbing. The angst of finding help in the bigger stores is gone. Love shopping here. It doesn't take long to get in and out and the workers remember you. It's how business used to be done. It may cost a few pennies more than the big box stores but it's worth it to me. If in doubt, call ahead to see if they have what you need for your project. Good store hours too. Convenient. Also check to see if they have servies for you like mower blade sharpening and screen repair. read more

Aside from shopping JE Rice for appliances, tools, parts etc. , it is my favorite place to Christmas shop, and not just for the guys. Tired of giving my girls another pair of earrings in their stocking, this year I chose, great little LED flashlights, designer house keys and even strobe lights for their dogs collars. Got bike accessories for the grandkids, kitchen and grill items, the list goes on. At our last dinner party, our friends got on the subject of JE RICE and spent an hour trying to out do each other on who made the most interesting purchase there. AND you just can't beat the service, always plenty of help and advice. If they don't have it, they will get it or send you to the right place to help you out. This is not just the best hardware store in Manassas. Its one of the best retail stores I've ever had the pleasure to patronize. If you have a problem that needs a solution they'll spend as much time with you as needed to help you develop it. I have had JE Rice personnel spend 10 minutes with me just to make sure I could find the right fitting bolt, even though they knew it would only be a $.30 item. They are the embodiment of customer service. If you need consultation, don't waste time at Home Depot. JE knows where even the most obscure item is within their store and can get to it in seconds. Every employee is exceedingly friendly and helpful. And, even with the threat of the big orange store that opened up the road in the last decade, they've managed to keep their prices reasonable. read more

I look at the other reviews and it feels like I was in a completely different store. I was treated very poorly when I went into this store. I am a teacher and a busy single mom. I went into the store looking for help and reassurance that I would be able to fix my outdoor faucet. The man in charge was so rude to me. He yelled at me for asking questions and made me feel like I needed to be a plumbing contractor to be in the store. Upon leaving the store I called the man to let him know that I would be contacting True Value to let them know how I was treated and he told me that I needed to understand that he was rude to me because he had to deal with many customers who didn't understand what he did. I will never go to this store again, and will advise everyone I know not to go there. This particular man needs lessons in customer service and should not be working with the general public if he cannot handle people asking questions and not understanding plumbing concepts right away. My boyfriend and his co-worker went there looking for nuts-and-bolts type stuff and said the customer service was phenomenal! "Really cute girls" knew everything about the parts they were looking for, from metal type to size. They were impressed and said they don't want to ever go to another hardware store. I make it a point to go here first for my hardware needs before hitting the big chains. I am still amazed at how many times they have the exact item I need and the cusomer service rocks! Don't let the size of this hardware store fool you. This place has every last nut and bolt you can possibly think of in stock. The store is extremely well organized and the staff is always extremely helpful. You may pay a few extra dimes for certain items, but it sure beats going to a mega hardware store when you're just trying to locate a few small specific pieces and want to get in and out quickly. read more

AWESOME!!! Awesome people, awesome service, awesome product. I had been to LOWES, Wal Mart, Home Depot, etc. in search of getting my car keyed copied and NONE OF THEM WOULD DO IT. I have an 06 TC which has a chip, so its a "special key" that would've cost me at least $250 at the dealer. I asked my mechanic for help and he recommended me J E Rice True Value and they DID IT! They were able to give me a new, programmed key that opened my car and STARTED THE ENGINE!!! The key didn't have any of the buttons, it was just a plain, regular key, BUT IT STARTED THE ENGINE WHICH IS IMPORTANT. Oh, and it cost me $69!! They saved me a ton of money. Wish I had known sooner about this store, but now I'll be definitely going there first, instead of lowes and home depot. THANKS!!! read more

A step back in time,. A true Mom and Pop store in this day and age. All of the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. If it is your first time or your one hundredth they always make you feel at home.
