Up until recently, JB nails was the only nail salon I went to for years. Pros: -walk ins accepted -fair pricing -May was my go to for gel manicures. She is super sweet, patient to all my requests, and her gel manicures lasted a few weeks. -Candy is awesome for pedicures. She never hurt me and was very fast. She's super helpful in picking colors too. - The owner is welcoming and always offers water or green tea. - Credit cards are accepted but tips are cash only. You can add tips for debit card purchases. Cons: - Unorganized scheduling. Even though I'm a loyal customer, even if I scheduled my appointments weeks ahead, there would still be confusion once I arrived. A lot of them arrive later than when their doors open, they supposedly didn't know I was scheduled, and lots more excuses. I do admit canceling last minute once or twice but when I was asked to come back 3 hours later the last time I was there, even after my appointment was in their book, (when I now live an hour away) I chose to finally try another salon. This is the main reason why I had to change salons. They may need to implement some sort of cancellation policy. - No powder dip manicures yet. They said they are currently in the process of comparing brands.. I'll still stop by if I'm in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way for them anymore. The owners are super friendly, attentive and offer green tea or water to each client. I was a regular client of JB Nails two years ago and they remembered me after all that time! I stopped going to the shop due to money issues, nothing to do with them. The cost is reasonable and they're willing to work with you if you want uncommon things done. For example, today I brought my own color changing acrylic powder in, after determining it would work with their solution, they used it with no problems. I've been coming to this nail salon (only nail salon) for years, but I'm sad to say I will never come back again. I developed nail fugus from the nail salon and it has been a nightmare. A long overdue review but since I'm coming back today, I figured why not share why. When my sister and I first came in everyone was really friendly and everything looked clean and it was a light, great atmosphere. The woman who did my nails(I forgot her name but I know her face and will be asking for her today!) did an amazing job and while she did my nails she went at a good pace and was very gentle and she even said to me "I'm going slow bc I can tell you have really sensitive hands and I don't want to hurt you" NEVER has someone done that for me anywhere else! If I ever got nicked or something the manicurist would just say "you moved" or find any way to blame it on me. My nails also lasted a really long time(did I mention I got a full set of acrylic and gel) I see some photos of chipped nails but I really don't understand how.. I'm a full time mom and I'm constantly using my hands and washing them throughout the day and my nails still lasted forever!! I loved my nails and even posted a picture on here. My favorite nail place in Long beach. They do a great job on gel. Try the gel mood polish. I always love coming to J B, but I don't always get over here because I now live in Belmont Heights. They are super nice and Johnny always offers green tea or water. Everyone i've had is pretty good, but of course people have their faves. Great place, friendly staff, very hospitable, very personable. They really care about their customers. If within 10 days of your manicure, they become chopped or crack they will fix it for free. I love the fact that I can come and not have to chitchat. I like to come and pamper myself without all the interruptions. They also have the LED light for gel polish, which is better for your skin than the UV light. Manicure: Vivian Very nice, triple checks all of my nails to make sure they were all evenly trimmed, filed, and polished. Pedicure: David Strong hands make fore a great led and foot massage. I came here because my regular nail salon was so packed and it was the worst decision I've ever made. I made an appointment so I was seated within 10 mins of walking in (gives me time to find a gel color). First of all, there are only about 5 chairs in a tiny corner for people to sit and wait at. When I showed up, they were all filled up with kids or people taking two seats. So expect to stand and wait. When the lady started doing my nails, she cut me and I shrieked. It was a shriek heard through the whole city. I was on the verge of tears as she continued stabbing at me. After she finished doing my gel manicure, I paid and tipped her at the front desk. I hand her the money and she looks at it, gives me a stank face (like she wasn't happy I gave her $2 for stabbing me), walks away muttering a quiet "thank you". She sometimes makes me fall asleep because she relaxes me. Another favorite of mine is Candy. She is also great at doing gel manicures and pedicures. I've been here about 5 times... each time I tell myself that I'm not coming back but it's just so close to my house that I decide to give it another try. Last time really will be the last time. They try to upsell you over and over again. Then when you say no, they try to trick you (trying to get you to use a gel nail polish instead of the one you chose, even after you have turned down the offer for a gel manicure multiple times already. Last time, I didn't realize what was happening and said yes to the color they suggested and then found out when I paid that it was a gel color and so had to pay for a gel manicure even though I had said that I hadn't wanted a gel manicure multiple times already). This time they also cut my cuticles (for $5 extra, but didn't tell me it was an extra charge until the bills came) and then also tried to charge me more than the price on the wall for the full set (when I asked why it was $30 not $25, they said that prices went up. I said that they have to change the price on the wall then). I still paid it all (except for the unmarked price increase) and even tipped generously but I really really won't be back next time. My nails are uneven and 2 of them have scabs around the cuticle as she was too aggressive and made me bleed, so it was expensive, dishonest and poor quality. Honestly, if they were just honest about the pricing ahead of time, I would continue to go... I just hate knowing that I'm being cheated. read more
