I think I subconsciously avoided this place for years simply because I knew it was a chain; I try to eat local. I finally got a chance to try it out, and boy was it worth it. From the moment you walk in you get he impression that j alexanders wants to give you a memorable dining experience. I was impressed by the tables themselves as we were seated: 3" solid cherry table tops are a reassurance that you're in good hands. Order the spinach dip to start off. Your welcome. The dip paired with their salsa is a wonderfully balanced was to start off your meal. I also ordered the steak burger - rare. I was not disappointed: savory and filling read more

Great service and the food is always great too. I would say the prices are a little higher than other restaurants, but it is well worth the extra few dollars because quality is always excellent and consistent. read more

Fantastic evening for the most part. Drinks at the bar while we waited were expertly crafted, the gin martini was exactly what the doctor order. Our table, despite being in the middle of the restaurant offered plenty of space and there was minimal traffic from other patrons. We were assisted by a triumvirate of wait staff. Kyle was our primary server, he was an absolute gentleman and made a perfect pair with Jayden who kept our drinks topped off all night. It did feel a bit like Zac was still in training despite his claim of being involved for 6 months. He just watched while Kyle and Jayden orchestrated a perfect evening. I hope the best for those two in their future. It's amazing when 2 people can lift an evening like they did. Even if the food wasn't amazing (which it was) they were worth the visit. Thank you so much for making my graduation as memorable as possible. read more

Very clean. The staff was very attentive. Expensive lunch menu is all I have to say. 65 bucks without tip for a burger, small salmon lunch entree and two ice teas. Kinda steep in my opinion. I am one that does 2-3 business lunches a week normally and this was a shocker. read more

J Alexander's steak Maui it is one of the most amazing steaks you can get in Toledo highly recommended!

Wonderful restaurant sometimes extremely busy but never that long a wait, excellent food wonderful servers only had one bad experience(and it wasn't that bad)in the dozens of times we have patronized this place my prime rib was overdone(WAY overdone )and the manager came over and had the chef put on a totally new piece for me. It is always a great experience. read more

Went there this past Sunday for dinner. I was really disappointed overall. I had a lot of people recommend that I go, and even dish recommendations. The chicken soup was great, carrot cake also excellent, everything else was a let down. The person I went with orderd filet mignon with brocolli, I ordered prime rib with orzo and wild rice. The sides were fine, but her steak was overdone and was extremely bland. My prime rib was okay, but extremely fatty. Would have sent both back, but we had already waited over an hour for our meal at that point and had plans for after dinner and we were already pushing that time. We arrived at 430pm, were seated immediately and didn't leave until 655pm. We ordered a dessert to go, and they did cover that for us as compensation, which was appreciated. I was just really disappointed with the experience. The server was weird, kept staring and lingering without doing much. We had to ask for water refills twice before someone came by to fill water, but with the waiting for food that long, it makes waiting for water much more frustrating. We each ate less than 1/3 of what was on our plates and he never asked how our meal was. The manager came by, not by request, and asked and we were able to share our thoughts, but overall, just a really poor experience. I'll have to try them back another time, but it will be a long long time until I do. read more

Today my friend and I had dinner at J. Alexander. When we walked in we where promptly greatest by the hostess, and informed of the 10 minute wait! (10 minutes?? That's it??? WINNING!!!). We saw a few.open seats at the bar, so decided to just go ahead and dine at the bar. Maddie was our server tonight , and she was phenomenal. She took the time to personalize our visit today. She took the time to fully answer all of our questions, as well as tell us her.personal favorites. It was evident that Maddie genuinely enjoys her job. Despite the restaurant being it's typical busy environment, she took the time to listen to our tales of our lives and our career's. Never once did she appear to be annoyed or seem as If we where an inconvenience to her night. She never rushed my friend while he was.on story telling mode. Our food came out and was cooked to perfection. (Hats off too the chef) As well as delivered in a timely fashion. Not to mention was absolutely delicious. Not only do I fully recommend a delicious dinner at J.. Alexander's. I also recommend requesting Maddie as a server!!!! Thanks Maddie. You where the bomb. read more

J. Alexander's - New York Strip and Mac And Cheesd - New American Near Me - Toledo, Ohio

Very good food quality. A bit crowded on reservations. Clean environment. Good service and very polite.

After a not so great experience on 3/31, the Manager contacted me and assured me that steps had been taken to make sure our next dining experience at J's would be great and that the issues were taken care of. I'll be giving J's another try in the near future. read more

Hands down the best steak I had so far in Toledo. It's right behind Ruth's Chris in quality when it comes to steak. Ordered myself a New York Strip that comes with a side of yummy Caesar salad and their AMAZING Not Your Ordinary(NYO) mac n cheese. The steak was perfect! It was thick and juicy. It's one of those steaks you don't need A1 or any other sauce to eat it with. As for the mac n cheese, a friend recommended it and it blew my mind away on how good it was. I'm usually the guy who stay aways from mac n cheese but theirs got me wanting it more and more. This place is definitely one of the nicer ones in town. It's elegant and the cost is a bit more than your average joe. In the end, you'll end up spending more but the service you'll get is outstanding and the food is freaking delicious so you'll get your money's worth. I will be back. read more

I had thee most heavenly crab cakes here, that I have ever had in my life. they are worth every penny and filling!

I've been going there since it opened but never again! The cooks did not have mask on and were eating while cooking and setting the plates to be delivered. Waiter was totally untrained. It took him 15 minutes to get to our table. Ordered drinks and that was another 15 minutes to get. Ordered our food for dine in and it came out as to go. When I mentioned it to another waiter he initially suggested that we just eat it out of the to go box then offered to get plates. When our waiter stopped by he blamed the kitchen even though you could clearly see on the receipt the order was rang in as a to go. He did try to make it right by offering a dessert but after 20 minutes of being ignored we left. Looked for a manager as we were leaving but none were around. I will be happy to spend $130 for 2 people's dinner else were! read more

Consistently makes the best prime rib every time we go. Everything is good there including their salad dressing to their carrot cake dessert

I have been coming to this place for over 20 years. I really hate to give this review, but hopefully things change....I will go back, but not anytime soon. First I know there is inflation, but prices have risen on the food to a level I am not quite comfortable with yet...other restaurants in the area have not raised their prices as much as "J" has recently. As for our experience, our server was new to serving and drink service was slow. We received drink before the salads arrived, one after the salads arrived, and another after we were done with the salads. I looked over at the bar and there were only a few patrons at the bar with 2 bartenders so I am not sure what the excuse was.... As for the food, I love their cilantro shrimp, Cajun chicken(rattlesnake) pasta, and Maui steak. Tonight's meal just didnt live up to the standards. The steak was cut thinner than I am used to and it tasted like they didn't clean the wood fire grill very well from what they were cooking before my steak went on. The mac and cheese was good, but the coleslaw(which we usually love) was almost inedible. Maybe it is just a bad night, or maybe they cant find anyone that wants to make money....not sure? read more

Wonderful meal. Great service. Felt very comfortable in this facility. Given the opportunity, I would return!

We had waited for a while and made our way to the bar. After waiting at the bar and ordering drinks we stood off to the side and a gentleman eventually made his way to the bar and asked for another chair for his wife. The bartender told them they don't have any other chairs but they decided to stay and order food. Another couple was leaving and gave us their chairs since WE had been standing waiting longer than this guy coming up and popping up there to get a seat. Maddison who was the bartender made it known that we were "rude" for not giving the chairs to the guy who basically was just trying to cut the dinner line and to sit at the bar and eat even tho we checked in way before them. It will be a very long time before we go back. Her behavior was very childish. When my husband got up to get our table she started to eye the customer to tell him there was a free bar chair. I plan on calling corporate Monday, more training needs to be done on her part. I'm assuming the way she acted that she knew the people but it was sickening how she made her comments and behaved. read more

Great food. A bit pricey. Appearingly snooty clientele, but that has nothing to do with the restaurant's fault. Definitely can count on a good meal here. read more

The food is excellent, but ordering takeout is a hassle. We ordered for our office and gave our office phone number. They apparently need a cell phone for the pickup, the staff never told us this. We wanted to pay over the phone but after 10mins of explaining this we were told we couldn't do this but could pay with the text on our order. It took us 25min to get this al straighten out. Sadly there customer service need to be looked at..... read more

J. Alexander's - Enjoying dinner with nephew Wedmart and family from Nashville at J Alexander's in Toledo! - New American Near Me - Toledo, Ohio

Excellent service! Love the prime rib! Alex salad is great with the champagne vinaigrette dressing!

The food and service was amazing. You do not need to dress to the 9's to come here but you can. We started with salads that were amazing because they had bacon on them!!!! Then we each had beef. One filet and one prime both perfect. Each paired with Mac n cheese that was absolutely southern recipe good. We had a Diet Coke and our bill was $75 - and well worth it. read more

Always a good experience. I love the salads and last night had the Alex salad with a delicious piece of grilled salmon. Deviled eggs are awesome and you HAVE to have a piece of carrot cake. I'm a big fan of margaritas and the one I had last night has raised the bar on acceptable margs. The servers are so attentive and pleasant. Ours was charming and fun. Wish I could remember her name. read more

Happy Hour is nice with decent menu options keep in mind that you must arrive early to get a seat at the bar.

Was treated to dinner last night and was looking forward to a great meal. I had the fish sandwich with fries and coleslaw. The sandwich was good, but nothing to write home about. Worse was the service. Our server acted like we were an inconvenience. After she spilled water on me, she didn't come back to the table. She sent one of her co workers to pick up our check. Won't be going back anytime soon. read more

Great atmosphere, great service , great waiter. My nephew and I each ordered the prime rib. His was cooked to perfection and mine was uneatable. Just a bad cut poorly cooked. Our waiter was a real pro and apologized and the manager removed it from our bill. Nephews was perfect in every way so go figure. Everything else was first class. I have eaten in many of the J Alexanders throughout Ohio and never had an issue so I'm sure this was just an unfortunate odd incident. I would eat here again. Can't say enough good things about our waiter and the manager. read more

The best chain restaurant I've ever been to. The quality is consistently good.

Crab cakes are great so is the warm carrot cake. The scenery is nice so are the drinks.

I was pleasantly surprised by J Alexander's they serve really good food and the service is top notch I ordered the blackened salmon and it was seasoned perfectly and moist it was delicious my wife had modified salad which they kindly accommodated with fresh ingredients. The appetizers were amazing I'm writing review a little late but I definitely will be back read more

Normally have a very good experience at this restaurant, but tonight was off. I ordered dessert to go and waited 50 minutes after paying before I finally got it. No one stopped by to tell me that there was going to be a wait. I asked about how long it would take and was told that they were making fresh carrot cake. 30 minutes later I asked again and the manager said he would come to my table. The manager did not come but someone brought out the carrot cake, but didn't acknowledge the wait or apologize. I'm very disappointed that no one ever explained the situation or apologized for the wait. read more

We are saying goodbye to this place after many times there. Had dinner there last night. Prices are raised again. $12 for martinis -- and this was the final nail in the coffin: I ordered a Maker's Mark on the rocks. I received what looked to be about an ounce in a glass with three ice cubes. You'll notice the picture. For this I was charged $11.50. I complained to the manager. She couldn't have cared less. "That's the way we pour high end liquors," she said. I didn't ask for 30 year old Macallan. I ordered a fairly common mid-range bourbon. Take a look at that picture again...ELEVEN DOLLARS AND FIFTY CENTS. read more
