I'm not exactly sure how you corn a beef, but Izzy does a damn good job. Historically speaking the Reuben, was a valiant attempt to reconcile post-WWII relations between the Germans and Jewish culture. When sauerkraut meets corned beef everyone wins. Has the best reuben of my life (thus far)!! Nothing fancy about this joint - very laid back and casual. Staff was friendly and I could tell that they have a lot of regulars that come in for lunch. I ordered a rueben and fell in LOVE! Not greasy, not soggy, lots of awesome corned beef and saurkraut, and the bread was super fresh. Izzy's is on our list of places to eat when we are in Cincy. From the traditional Reuben (smothered with a pile of sauerkraut) to a healthier Turkey Lite sandwich, anyone can find something they'd love at this Downtown Cincinnati mainstay. This truly is a neighborhood restaurant! When I was scouting out lofts downtown last summer I popped into Izzy's for a quick bite between viewings. I chatted with the guy behind the counter as my food was prepared...it was evident that he was passionate about downtown living, told me about some favorite spots and officially welcomed me to the neighborhood! Oh yeah...the food! I've had several different types of sandwiches here...all fresh and tasty! The house mustard and the potato cakes are fabulous...worth it just for those! I've taken out of town friends there...and they were snapping pics to brag on Facebook about "that cool deli we went to" So the food....very good! The service...outstanding!! read more

First time here and first time ever for me to eat a potato pancake (I didn't even know this existed) and a soup with bread & pasta in (sorry, don't remember the name). Wow, both were very tasty, greasy, obviously, but actually they filled me up so I know have a Rueben sandwich left... I'm sure it was amazing but the soup and potato pancake were actually enough for a lunch meal... So, girls, careful about the portions, because it's huge. Otherwise I was glad to have experienced something new and really liked it. Izzy's is a Cincinnati institution and one that it took me far too long to come to appreciate. The sandwiches are what you're coming here for. The specialty sandwiches are all worth a try, but their Reuben is probably what they're most well known for. I usually go with the Suzie or a roast beef on pretzel roll and I'm never disappointed. If you haven't tried the Suzie before, I highly recommend it for a meaty sandwich with a fruity kick. Potato pancakes come with every sandwich. They are nice and hot and a good greasy diversion. Great for curing what ales you. I'd prefer if they were more crisp, but I still down them every time. If you haven't tried Izzy's yet, do so. It will quickly turn into one of your go-to places. Not nearly as busy as Main st.location. Always good, yet paced service. Try to keep it on my to do list when I'm visiting my home town. The thinly sliced, pulled high, extra corned beef with Swiss is the only thing i order. Oh, with an extra latke. and raspberry tea, if I'm feeling frisky. Bathrooms are average. parking is cheap. I ate lunch here at 11am once. I never eat lunch before noon because then I get hungry again around 3pm, and that's not an ideal time to be hungry. Every afternoon meeting ever scheduled is at 3pm regardless of what company you work for. I think food should be provided at every meeting so that way if someone was forced to eat lunch early they can have a snack and not feel like the fat person in the office. Everyone gets hungry at different times and they can't always control it...hopefully hunger-shaming in the workplace will stop soon. The staff here is very friendly, and I highly doubt they participate in hunger shaming, especially since their sandwiches are so delicious. 4 stars. read more

We ate here with a group of friends that we were attending a convention at Duke Energy Center. I was not excited to be getting another sandwich but this place was amazing. My friends raved about the Rueben but sour kraut messes with my stomach so I can't eat it. I had the corner beef, roast beef, and turkey. Amazing. My wife had a burger topped with corner beef that was fantastic. The potato cakes were good. We had 12 people in our group and everyone left full and happy. The bread was white and plain do the meat was dripping with grease. Not really what I had in mind. Izzy's was very good. It's a diner mixed with a delicatessen. The corned beef is delicious. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is that the sandwiches were a little small and the place smells like a greasy spoon, but that's probably because they've been open since 1901! In all fairness it was delicious and great fun for our family group. It is not, however, the world's healthiest menu, but if you know that going in you'll be fine. The wait staff was extremely courteous and great with the kids and teens in our group. The potato pancake was delicious, if a little over-fried and a tad greasy. While I am new to the downtown Cincinnati lunch scene (is that a thing?) I can say that I was pleasantly surprised after stumbling upon Izzy one sunny January afternoon. First off all, the busy deli vibe upon entering is oddly satisfying. I felt a NYC energy that is clearly a good thing when benchmarking any kind of deli. Having no exposure to their menu and feeling the pressure of take-out diners behind me in line, I quickly picked the obvious corned beef and swiss as my low-risk option. After waiting about 5-10 minutes (a bit longer than seemed reasonable) I was pleasantly presented with my score. After arriving back at the office I unwrapped my a melty treasure of a sandwich and it's slightly greasy companion... the famous Izzy potato pancake. It was right about now that I realized a few things, first, I wish I had sour cream, applesauce or both. Secondly, I wish I had another sandwich since I was a bit disappointed in the size of what I ordered, but perhaps that is on me. In the end the food was amazing and really I think an even better experience is right around the corner for me once I know how to navigate the menu options. Up next? I had the original Rueben sandwich. Good stuff and not too heavy. The sauerkraut was about right, a little tamer than most. The potato pancakes are included with every sandwich are tasty. They have the ruebenator which double dose the meat to a half pound. The service was quick when you sit down at the counter but the line for take out had the usual wait for a lunch crowd. read more

Fort Wright Izzy's is very clean with great service. Corned beef and pastrami are as close to NewYork style as you can get in the Cincinnati area. The potato pancakes however are unique to Izzys and are excellent order them with a side of chunky applesauce and it's a dream come true. Our family of 8 attends a conference here every year or two and the kids always look forward to our meal at Izzy's. This year did not disappoint. Friendly service, yummy sandwiches, and delicious potato pancakes. Prices reasonable, but not cheap.
