This place was awesome when it was under former management and called Salsa. Now, it sucks. Food is inconsistent. I used to drive out of my way for mofongo. Back then, there were real pieces of pernil in it. Now, one has to look for the meat. The last time I tried this place, I went for the bistek encebillado. Big mistake. And the pink beans tasted as though someone had put vinegar in them. Please don't have a South or Central American working in the kitchen and try to pass the food off as Puerto Rican. Bought a deal on Groupon for this place. Tried their sirloin steak with onions, pernil with sweet plantains, white rice, pink beans, and fried yuca. Everything was delicious except for the steak which was a little dry, bland and rubbery. The pernil was moist and tender and had good flavor. Staff was friendly and provided great service. I would definitely go back for the pernil and fried yuca. Fried yuca was prepared perfectly. Yummy! I also want to try their flan next time I go back. read more

I have patronized this restaurant since it opened under the original name SALSA. I visit twice or three times a week and have placed catering orders in the past. I return because the consistency of food quality is excellent and the friendly service. On January 28th during the during the lunch hour, noon to 1:00 pm my experience was appalling. On a prior week I placed a take-out order, it was spicier than usual. I called and expressed my concern to the manager since, I suffer from digestive condition. She listened sympathetically addressed my concerns and invited me to return. That was a professional response. Not today. Before placing my order I told the order taker and the (tall male counterpart) I wanted to make sure that my order was not too spicy. My comment was met with incredulous laughter as the tall associate walked away talking under his breath laughing. No effort was made to take my order. Today my dining experience was served with indifference and arrogant disregard. No order was placed today or will it be in the future. read more

The food here is usually fantastic. However, I find the portions to be rather skimpy; especially the lunch specials. Their Cuban is pretty good, but the smallest I've ever seen. Not worth eight bucks. If they gave larger portions, or lowered their prices, I would eat here more regularly and not only when in a pinch. read more

The food from Salsa was disgusting. The shredded pork smelled like dirty socks. Everything had TONS of salt. I was hoping for something relatively 'ethnic' for the area and this was definitely not it. Basically inedible food. Most of what was ordered went in the trash. This will be my first ever bad review on Yelp. I have been a long time customer of this establishment. Today I ordered 18 empanada and the only have is two single serving garlic sauces. When I go into eat and order two they give my one garlic sauce. I asked for two extra and for the first time they said I have to pay for extras. Two small single servings for 18 empanadas. When I picked the order up if I didn't ask for the garlic sauce they would not have given me any. This is with a order for a little order over $73. I also had a gift card. Was told they won't accept it for any order over the amount of the balance on the card. We used this card once and had a $8 balance. When I tried to use the balance when picking up my order and tried to add some sodas they would not accept it. They have lost a customer forever for trying to nickel and dime us. When using the gift card which was a present from my son the first time if they would of told us the policy we would have added to the order and left the rest as a tip. Buyer beware. The food isn't that good to ha e to deal with this P. S. Writing now after eating through the orde. I ordered 18 empanadas 12 beefin a pan and the 6 chicken in another. Low and behold the beef pan had 4 of the 12 empanadas were Chicken instead of as labeled beef. Seems they are going downhill rapidly to also mess the clearly labeled beef empanada tray and a third of them were chicken. I ended up with 10 chicken and eight beef. My boyfriend and I are both Puerto Rican and when we walked in we already felt at home. It smelled like a family gathering. We ordered a lot of food, at a great price by the way. We ordered tostones, chuletas with arroz con gandules, pollo guisado, alcapurrias, and pasteles. Everything we had reminded me of my moms cooking. The owner was sweet and checked on us multiple times. The food and service was something I would never expect to find outside of the city. Salsa is very authentic Puerto Rican Food. I enjoy it every time I go. The people are kind the music is great. The only bad thing is that their is no coffee.( gotta talk to the owner about that). As for the food it is very flavorful, and I too am a "real Puerto Rican" whatever that means. The staff is very helpful,& the place is very clean. You can bring your kids with no problems at all. Delicious!!! So happy we found this little spot! The service was great. Everyone was friendly and the restaurant was clean. Good food portions...we couldn't finish it all! Kids menu was also great, the pink ham was a great choice for our kids because they are picky eaters. They also got white rice...ate that too! I used to go here all the time. But I don't anymore. The food is not bad, although it is quite salty. But that is the same as the food I get when I visit my wife's family in Aricebo, PR. The prices are very cheap and the quantities are large. I would not call this a "sit down" place. There are a few tables and the place is very clean, but we only ordered take out from here. The people who are staffing the counter and register are just teenage girls who could not care less about the job they do. And every single order I ever took home had something wrong with it. Missing items, wrong items. I began opening my bags at the counter to check my order, but that took so long it just wasn't worth it. In comparison, the Golden Palace, Chinese, right next door has never gotten an order of mine wrong ever! And I order from them more frequently. They can't just cook food and sell food. They need to do a better job managing their store. read more

i hate to say this, because i have always liked this place, but last Thursday, i had a grapefruit for breakfast, and salsa for lunch. i ate nothing else all day, and at 7pm, started to experience symptoms of e.coli poisoning. through the night it became much, much worse. took me two days to recover. it's a shame, too, because i have always liked this place. seems that someone did not wash their hands, unfortunately. i can't imagine going back, as the PTSD makes it difficult for me to even think of this place. Years ago we tried Izla when it was under its former name and found the food on several occasions to be very salty. We did not return for several years but over the past year have had Izla take out on multiple occasions. It is delicious, perfectly spiced and full of flavor. Prices are reasonable and the staff is pleasant and efficient. Just writing this makes me want to go there this evening! I really wanted to like this place. It's close to home, and I don't get Puerto Rican food unless I trek it to Mami's house. I'm pregnant and the craving was calling. Ok, well, the teenaged waitstaff/cashiers seemed kind of overwhelmed by duties and behaved unprofessionally, as though they were just hanging out instead of working. Rice and gandules tasted burnt and dry, yucca fries had too much dried batter on the outside (felt like dust in my mouth) and the chicharrones were a tad under seasoned. Would have rated higher based on dishes and service, but my husband couldn't even make the twenty minute drive home and had to stop at Barnes and noble to use the bathroom.
