Everyone was so kind and polite. On top of that the food came out quick and so delicious.

I love this place. It's an anime-themed bar and (light menu) restaurant, done well. It's clean, very focused on its target audience, and the staff seem to have a good time being here. PROS: -Such a COOL atmosphere. If you love anime, Pokemon, or video games, this restaurant/bar is super awesome. The decor and the neon lights everywhere are A+ entirely. It's clean, it's fun to look at it, and it's pretty. -Service is always so friendly, and I love that the restaurant lets them be them. Most are carrying keychains full of anime/cute plushies/etc., and their dress is very personal/unique to them. They all seem to be joking around and having fun with one another, and I really hope management treats them well here. -Service has always been friendly and fantastic too. -Bathrooms are clean. They're clearly older (not really redone from whatever restaurant used to be here like the rest of the bar was), but they work just fine and are clean. -The pizzas are freakin' fantastic. They're in-between a Medium and Large size, and they're stretching the limits of what is comfortable for one person to eat on an empty stomach. They do have to-go boxes, branded with anime, for taking some of the pizza home. -There are "pin-up" booby anime character statues on display at the bar. I'd like to request male-presenting ones if we're going to have anime statues in Playboy bunny suits. I want eye candy too. -I'm not sure what Fairfield Commons is doing, but it appears Izakaya has become this odd flagship store for the whole mall. There are TONS of video game, Pokemon, and anime stores throughout this mall. The Round10 arcade nearby has an entire section of imported Japanese/anime arcade games. If you like anime or video games, you can easily make a whole time out of hitting up the mall for Izakaya. -Variety of tables and seating options. They have bar seats, half-booth seats, pull-out, armless chairs with tables, and...I think that's it. It's a good variety to fit most people. Walkways are large, and if you used the Mall entrance to get in, I want to say that a wheelchair would fit into the space relatively easily. I'm unsure about navigating into the bathroom with a wheelchair, but I would check to see if the Mall's built-in restrooms have wheelchair access for visiting. CONS: -I'm not sure what it is about nerd spaces, but the cocktails or mocktails you get in any nerd space seem to be sugar-central. The same applies to Izakaya. Virtually all of their signature cocktails are surprisingly sugar-heavy. Some of them are still great flavors, but be prepared for very sweet drinks. -Sometimes movies, with English speakers, is played over the bar's speakers. I am insanely distracted when there are conversations going on over the bar itself layering on top of the conversations I'm trying to have. I did not bring this up to the bar to ask them to change it, but it has happened a few times I've been here.

I'm not sure I can give an objective review because I'm thrilled that a place like this exists in the first place. Physical spaces for the anime/Japanese culture fan community are sparse in the US, especially the Midwest, so I cherish every one we get. This is definitely the sort of place I could end up spending an unhealthy amount of time and money at if it were closer to me. I love the playful way they incorporate the theme in all of their food and drink names. Maybe it's corny, but I enjoy it. The mocktail I got was good. The Korean corndog was an interesting thing to try out. Only thing that surprised me is the paucity of Japanese food, especially classic Japanese bar food. Definitely room to improve there. Staff was friendly, no issues there.

The rice in it is hardly seasoned and just didnt taste "wow". Their yakisoba is a weird medley of rice noodles in some brown sauce they call yakisoba (like they didnt even use the actual noodles!) I got the katsu kimchi jiggae... they put a perfectly fried katsu INTO the bottom of the jjigae..... like it was wet and sad. And for some reason my son had a full bowl of rice and mine was only half full?? The kimchi flavor was off... almost tomatoey? Needless to say.. my husband barely ate his yakisoba. I took 95% of my stew home. To top it off as we were checking out, they came and said they were having some troubles with conmecting tp their card people... if we could ..pay with...cash? And i had to send my husband out to an atm... and then it came back online. In all this they couldnt even give a small discount for this situation. I am sad to say I am likely not to return... this round of ownership change has brought the place down.

We spent $230 (w/ tip) and it was worth every penny. Probably the best Japanese restaurant in the city. We passed by this place multiple times on our way elsewhere. We're Mario fans, so the name Yoshi caught our eye, but the cramped strip mall exterior doesn't exactly scream culinary dream. We decided to take a chance, and let me just say--wow. It's an intimate space with just a few tables and an 8-10 seat sushi bar. We didn't have reservations (make one, they fill up fast) but managed to snag seats at the bar. The service immediately stood out. We had better attention here than at some upscale steakhouses--glasses never went empty, and their menu suggestions were spot on. One minor heads-up: at the sushi bar, staff sometimes walk behind you to talk to the chefs, which can be a bit distracting. For starters, we grabbed the gyoza and asked for a standout small plate. They pointed us to the beef tongue. It arrived hot with shredded onions and spicy mustard, delivering a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth tenderness with a deep, beefy richness. The gyoza was equally flawless. Instead of the overly chewy or burnt wrappers you find at most spots, these had a delicate, golden-brown sear with an intensely savory, garlicky umami filling. We paired this with Sayuri sake, a creamy, unfiltered pour that perfectly balanced sweetness with a dry, clean finish. Since we love nigiri, we ordered a spread: tuna, salmon, smoked salmon, sweet shrimp, and Japanese scallop, plus a salmon/avocado roll. The cuts were impeccably sourced and practically dissolved on the tongue. You rarely find this level of consistency. Just a heads up--they prepare it the traditional way, meaning there is a dab of wasabi tucked directly under the fish. We also tried the Wagyu A-5 roll. It's about as "meat and potatoes" as a roll can get: steak, carrots, asparagus, and rice. The seared Wagyu fat melted instantly, creating a decadent, buttery glaze over the crisp vegetables. It's one of those rare foods that genuinely forces you to pause after each bite. At $40, it was 100% worth it. I can't say enough about this experience. Next time, we're leveling up to the fatty tuna and Wagyu experience on their special menu. That's the exact culinary peak we've been looking for, and incredibly, it's tucked inside a suburban strip mall. Absolutely brilliant.

It's a shame they're closing it, as the restaurant was super cute, with a custom mural & fun bar. Our server was wonderful- very knowledgeable & attentive. We ordered a wide variety of dishes. We started with the napa Caesar, which I really enjoyed, & the kaarage, which was good but not the best I've ever had. My family got the salmon skewer, the yakiimo (fried sweet potatoes), the kimchi ramen, & the special (which's name I can't remember). Everything I tasted was enjoyable, super flavorful & savory. The kimchi ramen was lukewarm, though. My shio was also really good, which delicious roasted pork & al dente noodles. Everything was good, except for the lukewarm ramen, & t's a good restaurant in its own right, but it's just impossible to beat Mochiko in my mind. That being said, I hope Kiki will open its doors somewhere else & I hope to try it again!

I requested to be seated in the middle section & was told the tables needed to be cleared off first. Took 10+ minutes and someone else got seated there before us. Anyways, Arnold Palmer was very bitter. Whatever you have in mind for deviled eggs is not what you will need tasting when you try these. It had an odd smell and tasted under seasoned. Would not order again. The wontons I give a 3/5. Not my favorite. The mushrooms weren't over powering but still interesting. This could have also used more seasoning. Outer layer was crispy. If you don't like sauces, ask for your sauce on the side because they pour it on your wontons for you. The empanadas seasoned well. Stuffed well too. Would order again. Then we ordered the flank steak medium. We received well done and it took more than 15+ minutes for the waitress to come to our table to check on us in order for us to send it back to get medium. Other than that, plantains were cooked well, the rice and beans were good. Presentation was beautiful. The restaurant was not busy at all. There were many empty tables and seats at the bar. Music isn't too loud to have conversations. Considering how much I spent on these meals and drinks, I would not return again.
