Absolutely spectacular!! The food was TO DIE FOR. I cannot wait to go back. Service was perfect! It was so nice to go to a restaurant. Even though the restaurant was crowded, we felt like the only two people there. We started off with the duck pate and something called culpeper crack (it's a cheese spread). We also were given a basket of the softest warmest most delicious bread. Then we each got the filet minion ($40) served over mashed potatoes and some green beans. Then we split the tiramisu. Everything was cooked to perfection. I ordered my steak rare and it was PERFECT. Seldom does a restaurant know how to cook a steak rare and they executed it. I cannot wait to go back. read more

Awful very rude service. I was just standing there and she takes the person who comes in the door after me. She never said "how are you" "May I help you" nothing. I spoke and no one spoke back. I simply just wanted to pick up a Togo order I'd placed and I wasn't able to just pick up my order the woman wanted to argue with me because I had my phone up to my ear instead of giving me excellent customer service as I expected to receive from a elderly woman. We were in town staying at a local bed and breakfast. Walking past, we decided to stop in for lunch on a whim. The food and service was so good that we went back for dinner the same day! Five stars - for the hospitality alone, and the food is certainly up to par as well. We felt so welcomed and my ten year old son was treated like a king, as a result he actually enjoyed having lunch in a grown up place, allowing my sister and I to have a wonderful meal as well. The dining room is chock full of fresh flowers. I had the beef pie which was delish and the accompanying salad was fresh and plentiful. By mistake, I sat down at the patio next door. When I moved inside, I left my purse behind by accident. A man (manager? server? i couldn't tell who was who) brought it to me, which was hugely appreciated, but then waggled his finger and scolded me like a child, which was insulting and totally off-putting. If I hadn't put my order in already, I would have left. A few minutes later, he returned to the table to crack what I guess was a joke? "i mean, i just need to make sure you can pay me." Great. A few bites into my niçoise salad, I found a hair in it. When I called it to another man's attention, he took my fork and the potato the hair was in, and said "you don't want me to have them make you a whole new one, do you? i mean, i will, if you want." Seriously? That's the bar you're setting for your food? The tuna in the salad was perfectly cooked, and the tomatoes and olives were great. The green beans, however, were pretty badly overcooked and tasted old. Another Yelper commented that something about the service here feels "off," and I would agree with that sentiment. read more

Located a couple miles off Hwy 29, in the heart of charming Culpeper, VA. I was hoping to try the pot roast everyone says is so good and it's not even on the Sunday menu. Being gluten free, I ordered the prime rib sandwich without the crusty bread. I don't like blue cheese and asked if I could substitute the goat cheese and they charge $2 more for the goat cheese. The prime rib is only offered one way; well done..tough, and charred in some places. My husband ordered the pate platter. He enjoyed the pate and crackers but thought everything else was a bit heavy on the vinegar. We were full when we left but would not rush to return. read more

I love coming to town and eating at this place but today is the last time I will go again. Went in for lunch and sat in the alley; it was a bit hot so we moved over to where the misters were going to stay cool. I didn't get a menu so went in to grab one, no big deal. And the disgruntled white haired lady says "are you the people out there traveling up and down," rude. Why am I coming in to grab a menu? We stumbled upon this place on a trip from Woodbridge to Culpeper just to explore since we hadn't been here before. Wow. I have no words to adequately say how GOOD our lunch was! The bread was so flavorful and nearly melted in my mouth (I've never said that about bread before!) and the pasta dish I had (I forget the name....it has sausage and bechamel, that much I know) was so perfectly balanced in flavor and again unlike any other pasta or sauce I've ever tasted. It was our first visit to Culpeper, and we together with another couple decided upon It's About Thyme restaurant, as recommended by friends. The murals, the ceiling, the dishes and more were unique, and the service fantastic - with water glasses refilled seamlessly. The owner/manager made us feel special, and he made sure that our friend's food allergies were seriously addressed. I ordered the short rib sandwich w/fries, my wife had the eggs Benedict. The short rib meat was good, but the fries were way salty. I had to remove the rib met from the sandwich because they served it on a potato roll that was wet/soggy by the time it was served, nothing worse than a wet roll. The sandwich should have been served on a heartier roll that could handle the juices. My wife's eggs Benedict was terrible! The eggs were fine but they dumped salt on the fries/potatoes that someway ended up all over her eggs. Needless to say she didn't send it back. The restaurant relocated from Philly and offers European fare such as smoked trout, duck pate, Palazzo pot roast, etc. I tried the Culpeper Crack at a friend's dinner get-together, and I knew I had to get my hands on some tubs! This spread is ridiculously addicting - thick, creamy, chive-y, salty, cheddar-y - super delicious!!! They have their housemade thin crispy flat breads with some house seasonings that pair greatly with it, but I prefer it with the Triscuits. Super yummy and great as appetizers or as snacks! They have 3 tub sizes, and while it's a little pricey, it's worth the trek over to Culpeper to stock up on these (just get the Party Size - it's still not enough!). I was a little distressed that the Market next door was closed on Sundays, but It's About Thyme saved the day! Everything that has been said about the poor service is 100% spot on. I've been coming to this restaurant for 15+ years and the way my family and I were treated the last time we visited was appalling. The so called manager was probably the worst culprit. He was indifferent, rude, and confrontational. It seemed as though any time we asked about the menu it was a personal affront. Drinks were delayed and no apology was offered. I ordered a burger which was served on focaccia...what??? I didn't order a different dish because it was served on focaccia because that had already been brought to the table. Who in their right mind would serve a burger on focaccia. Needless to say, the burger was NOT advertised as being served on focaccia. I asked a server to please put my burger on a different bun. Ten minutes later, after I saw him talk to the totally incompetent manager and he finally said they would change the bun. No thanks, I'd eaten the meat with my salad. Before leaving I asked to speak to the manager. I explained that rather than post an anonymous review I would like to speak to him personally. What a mistake. All he wanted to do was argue with me and he walked off saying, "yeah, I guess I'm just a piece of sh_t". What kind of a manager would say that?? My family and I will NEVER return. The atmosphere is relaxed but I wouldn't recommend bringing kids/family dinner night here; or lunch options, for that matter. For lunch, not only do they offer a cheeseburger for $14, but they also only offer soups available on a printout they include with the regular menu. However, the atmosphere paired with the european influenced food is sure to make for a great dinner night. From pot roast for rotisserie chicken as well as other vegan options, this place would make a great group dinner night. Despite the good food and charming seating, I can't help but feel this restaurant falls short on my list of great local eating spots because of their service. I couldn't catch a breath between one waiter asking me what I'd like to eat versus a different waiter coming up behind them and telling me what I wanted isn't available at this time. There was a point where we had two entirely different waiters from the first two that greeted us pouring our water glasses. Overall, it's a nice place. I'll come back with friends and maybe a family dinner night. The food is good, the atmosphere is comfortable, and even though the service is more eccentric than necessary, I still feel like my presence was important. read more

This restaurant has traditionally been one of my favorites. My parents started bringing me here many years ago and we continued to patronize it based on the excellent service and consistency of the food. I was extremely blown away and disappointed by the subpar experience we had a couple weeks ago. One may disagree, but for me, there is only one way to serve a Beef Wellington. Every chef has a right to put their own spin on a dish, but a classic like this cannot be tampered with and a piece of meat with a circular puff pastry on the top and bottom does not qualify as a Beef Wellington. My appetizer was cold, the owners seemed more distracted with socializing than with actually running the place, and the results of that are evident. read more
