We dined at Ithaki a couple of weekends ago, and now I'm counting down the days until we move to Chicago--this spot is definitely going into my regular rotation. The restaurant has a sexy, modern vibe while still feeling comfortable enough to dress casually. It's perfect for a romantic date night or celebrating a special occasion. We ordered a bit of everything: spreads, zucchini chips, and saganaki--all delicious. But the standout starter was the avgolemono soup. It was incredible--I could honestly eat it every day. For our mains, we shared the souvlaki, lamb chops, and youvetsi. I'm usually not a lamb person, but even that impressed me. Everything was so good that I completely overindulged (no regrets, especially since we were leaving the next day). Ithaki was GREAT!!!! The inside is absolutely beautiful & pretty big. You feel transported to Greece when you walk in & I immediately felt like I was on vacation. We were able to get a reservation very last minute on a Friday, it was not super packed at all. We ended up sitting at the bar which was quick and had good service. We got 3 spreads, saganaki, martinis and salads. My favorite was the village salad and the saganaki. Very fresh and good portion sizes (not huge but not tiny). I really wanted to like this place because the design and ambiance are beautiful, and the food itself was decent. Unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing. The service was very poor -- our server seemed inexperienced, inattentive, and not well-trained. Because of that, we left a lower tip than usual to reflect the level of service. What made the situation worse was the manager following us and questioning why we didn't leave a minimum 20% tip. His tone came across as unprofessional, confrontational, and frankly inappropriate. Tipping should reflect the experience, and being pressured or challenged about it is unacceptable. On top of that, the atmosphere didn't feel authentic at all. Playing deep house music in a Greek restaurant felt out of place and took away from the cultural experience. Came to celebrate one my friends birthday. We ordered a variety of plates and shred them. The octopus was really good. The squid ink pasta was my favorite. The lamb chops were also really delicious. There is a somalier who gave a great wine recommendation and we ended up ordering multiple bottles For food we had a group and tried A LOT! We started with: Octopus 4/5 - great flavor but portion was small for the price, the four of us basically got one large bite each Saganaki 5/5 - what you would expect but perfectly delicious Spanakopita - can't say bc I didn't try but my friends said it was mid Zucchini chips - 5/5 - delicious. Would rate these as the best I've had in the city. Lamb ribs - 3.5/5 good but nothing to write home about. Still solid though if you like ribs. Mushrooms - 5/5 i'm not even a mushroom person, but these were absolutely amazing. Must get item. For entrees we each got something different and shared. My husband got the red snapper special and for $85 dollars we were sorely disappointed. It was a good portion but just very mediocre. They did prepare it well at the table though. My other friend ordered the grouper and also wasn't impressed with the flavor. So I would ship the fish here. I got the lamb chops which were delicious and it was a good portion. This past summer, I came with my auntie and mom. Service here is impeccable. I value servers so much as the work they do is often underrated. There were things he did (i.e., refilling waters or replacing silverware) that I didn't even see him do! No need to ask and by the time you noticed, it was already done. Exquisite. The inside is beautiful, relaxing & calm. The atmosphere prepares you for the meal. We ordered Roasted Beets, Squid Ink & Dungeness Crab, Red Snapper, & Greek Fries. Never order beets if you're not a beets person. My mom enjoyed them. On a better note, the Greek fries were good. After many watched culinary shows, I finally got the opportunity to try Squid Ink Pasta. Delicious! Now for the main event... the red snapper. With food this good and a very beautiful dwelling in which to eat this food Ithaki Estiatorio should have and could have a Five Star Review; and I believe they will - very soon. They are very new and the growing pains are slightly showing. This intricate and complicated food was taking a bit too long coming out of the kitchen. The wait staff needs to brush up (just a little) on clearing plates that were done with and not bussing plates where people were not finished eating. I'm not knit picking, but.......... (From the Chicago Restaurant Week menu which represented a tremendous deal). Interior: large, euro chic music and environs, with large wrap around bar and open kitchen. Tarmasalata: too much lemon? Unbalanced. Great presentation with fresh veggies , pita and bread. topped with Greek Salmon roe. Took it home but not my favorite. Sagnaki: great. Hard to muck up though, yes? Cod: with grilled onions, caviar, micro greens. Flavored from the wood fire, herb olive oil sauce, topped with Greek Salmon roe. Excellent and well prepared, presented. I made Tuesday dinner reservations for 2. Good thing I did since the place was full. Lots of diners and it's a pretty big restaurant. It's very nice with Mediterranean charm and warm lighting and inspiration from the sea. The earth tones of the walls were very aesthetic. A full bar and a good selection of wines to serve ur alcoholic needs. My daughter couldn't stop smiling from the deliciousness of the food! Her favorite was the Youvetsi and it really was delicious. The braised lamb so fine and soft that I barely had to chew. The orzo actually tasted like rice even though it's a pasta. The Souvlaki chicken was to tender and juicy, probably the best chicken I've had in a while. The zucchini chips were light and crispy. The grilled Horta was awesome, I can't believe I ate dandelion:) Finally we had Sokolatopitta chocolate cake for dessert and it was just like the other dishes...so yummy! I finally checked out that new Greek spot in Greek town which is exciting to have a new option. The second you walk in, you're hit with this gorgeous vibes, open spaces, with a beautiful bar. And they seemed to handle several large groups of people without our service suffering at all. The food was excellent. It's more of a modern elevated Greek food experience. Everything we had was on point. I've never had such thinly sliced and tasty fried zucchini. From the (3) mezz selections to the fish, it was all perfectly executed. I also like that the location was a little further down the street from all the usual clustered Greek restaurants. Ordered 5 dishes and one dish stood out, lamb ribs - very nicely done bbq rib. The rest of the course was good but nothing really memorable. Good service and the interior design was great. I likely will go back to traditional Greek food places though. The price was on a higher end but nothing crazy given the inflationary period we are living in. There are a number of older Greek restaurants in Chicago's Greektown that, while worthy spots, have grown a bit stale. This why so I'm so excited that Ithaki Estiatorio opened. I visited it a few days ago and it was like a breath of fresh air. Not only is it going dishes in a high end way that other Greek restaurants in Greet Town aren't doing, it's bringing a modern and upscale ecstatic to the area. First, the food is amazing. I ordered the smoked lamb ribs, lamb chops, Greek fires, wood fired octopus and lemon possets for dessert. I heard they even fly in their seafood from Greece. All of the dishes are great, but my favorite of the night was the lamb chops. They were cooked perfectly and were very juicy and tender. I also enjoyed the Greek fires as the feta was delicious and the fires were perfectly cooked. Nothing I ordered that isn't worth getting again. Second, the restaurant itself is gorgeous and modern. It was dispensed with the hokey and corny decor of most Greet restaurants and replaced it with a slick modern feel with pops of color. Third, the service was excellent. The waitstaff at this restaurant is on par with any upscale spot in Chicago. My waitress was polite, attentive and brought out my food quickly. This is a must visit new restaurant. read more

It pains me greatly to give any new restaurant 2 stars. The restaurant is new and beautiful and service was good. Sadly the food and the portion size fell so short that I could not give it a higher rating. 1. We had the saganaki which was good but too oily( a common theme with other dishes). We ordered the zucchini spirals fried zucchini. This dish I told my server Maria was woefully under seasoned and swimming in oil( I sent it back to her nothing was done to fix the situation and I was charged). My lamb chops were seasoned well but again swimming in too much olive oil. Biggest let down of the evening was the patstichio pasta dish. I ordered the entree for my 11 yr old the portion was so tiny she was still hungry afterward which I again mentioned to my server. I ended up giving 2 lamb chops to my kid or she would have left hungry. I make this pasta dish all the time but I include seasoning and tomato sauce both of which were missing here. The part owners used to own costas which I enjoyed very much. The other issue is price. Compared to all the other Greek restaurants in the area this is the priciest which I don't mind you pay for the ambience but the food needs to be able to stand up to the prices. The cocktails are good here though. I would recommend stopping in for a drink and go somewhere else for Greek food.
