The ambience is beautiful and evokes a hint of Greece. The service is excellent and worth more than the automatic 22% gratuity that they add. What makes Taxim exceptional is the food. Everything we had was delicious - so delicious. Most of the menu is made up of small plates. Get 2-3 per person. The cost is still reasonable for such high quality food. My two favorite items were the prassopita and the beet dish (see menu image, it is in the left most column). I don't even like beets. Or I didn't. I guess I do like their beets. Size was good because I had late lunch and I was ok with sharing, but otherwise you'll have to order a few things if you're sharing. The menu comes across as very authentic, so definitely not a casual spot to grab a gyro, if that's what you're looking for after a night of drinking. They have extensive drink and dessert menus and the rooftop is beautiful! Not a fan of the auto-gratuity, especially in the current economy, but I get it. Service was very accommodating. We shared the lamb shoulder kebab, hummus appetizer, eggplant dip appetizer, pork shoulder (souvlakia), pizza flatbread, lentil bean dip, halloumi saganaki, and halva cake as dessert. I was honestly disappointed with this place after having wanted to try it for a while. The inside is very brightly lit and feels authentic, but I didn't get the same experience with the food. They were also out of a couple of the Greek wines, but we settled on a nice light bottle of red to share. We were here for a birthday, and they didn't do anything for that either. If not because of the decent wood-grilled lamb chops, I would have given ZERO star. I booked a table for 3 on Opentable. Upon arrival, we were greeted by someone who was not a host nor a server (security guard??). It was very clear that this is more of a typical family-run business and they are short staffed. Someone behind the cashier took us to a table for 8 far back, at the very end of the dining area, next to a kitchen. I saw an empty table for 4 that was already set up, so I asked the host to be seated at that very table but he said the table was "reserved" and he couldn't give it away. He did not explain why.. so I wondered what you needed to do to "reserve" that table. I saw two other parties who arrived after us and were served before us. They took their orders, and we just waited for SOMEONE to come to our table to take ours. Now, as much as I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt, we felt discriminated for being the only group of east Asians in the whole restaurant. Another great restaurant in the Wicker Park area. I loved the authentic Greek food and how the dishes are small enough to try several different ones. I generally find Greek food to be quite bland but I was pleasantly surprised by the flavors of the dishes we got. We got the beets, lamb and rice stuffed cabbage, sesame pastry, and the wild boar. My boyfriend and I have been exploring the menu together. One thing I've noticed from multiple visits is that they are NOT consistent. One night the lamb chops are amazing best I've ever had, the next visit they're "just good." But even at "just good" they're still great! Which is why I still gave this place 4 stars. But let me tell you. This sea bass was the best I've ever had. I'm looking forward to having it again to see if the flavors remain the same. The shrimp wrapped In grape leaves were amazing as well. We were not a fan of the eggplant at all. It was freezing cold and didn't please our pallets. Taxim is typically busy. Make a reservation before coming. Depending on the day, street parking is hard to find. They also start to ticket on Milwaukee Ave at 10pm so make sure you don't drive to a late night dinner. While on the busy and late night subject. Our food took a while to come out while visiting late at night, yet it was ready super quick early in the evening. So if you're in a time crunch, late night may not be the best time to visit if they're busy. Another complaint that I have about the restaurant is that they're a little too closely packed. We were very close to the other parties while dining. I understand I'm taking a risk by dining out in a pandemic (currently writing this in nov 2021) but other restaurants do a better job to social distance. They also have an auto 22% gratify for parties under 8 and I believe that Increased to 28% for the larger over 8 people parties. This auto gratuity plays into their service. We had to see our selves up stairs with our own menus and there was no host upstairs to great us. We had to stand and wait in the doorway until the available server finished putting in Someone's order. All in all, Taxim has been very tasty. Operationally there is room for improvement. read more

While we were eating a band was playing which made things very difficult and loud (we were warned about) so I did not want to argue with the waiter...total damage for two people and for so so martinis , one appetizer and 2 smaller sized plates almost $200!! Taxim was on my list for a very long time. The vibes totally lived up to what I imagined - the rooftop is beautiful, and super romantic. The sharing style makes it great for an intimate date or large group. The food was great, but not really great enough for the price. I guess that's a casualty of Wicker Park...you can get amazing Greek food for half the price in Greektown. We ate the tzatziki, fried cauliflower, a seasonal salad, and half chicken. Everything was great - the chicken was really juicy and lemony, and served with some delicious fingerling potatoes, and the sauce for the fried cauliflower was great. Tzatziki is always a hit, but there wasn't enough pita. Again, no complaints at all about the quality of food - I just don't think it was better enough than other Greek restaurants to justify the price. The food was tasty, the service was great, but I felt like a lot of the dishes are overpriced for what you get. We sat on the rooftop which is very cute and had a nice ambiance. We got several dishes to share between two people and we ended up with the right amount of food (perhaps a little too much). The place was not busy, and after eating the food, I'm surprised it wasn't packed! My friends and I sampled a bit of everything on the menu with great recommendations from our waitress Tina. We had the TZATZÍKI, PRASSÓPITA, REVÍTHIA KAS. FRÓSSOS, TURLÚ, and AGRIOGURUNO ME STRIFTOUDIA and split a bottle of red Grecian wine. Everything was amazing!
