We came with a reservation on a weekend evening and had a great experience. The food is incredible. They have a rooftop, but it sounded pretty noisy so we opted to eat inside. We shared the lamb shoulder kebab, hummus appetizer, eggplant dip appetizer, pork shoulder (souvlakia), pizza flatbread, lentil bean dip, halloumi saganaki, and halva cake as dessert. Everything was good, but the favorites were the lamb shoulder kebab, eggplant dip, and halva cake. The cake was more like a molten chocolate cake with nuttiness. This is some of the best Greek food I've had in a while.

I was honestly disappointed with this place after having wanted to try it for a while. The inside is very brightly lit and feels authentic, but I didn't get the same experience with the food. They were also out of a couple of the Greek wines, but we settled on a nice light bottle of red to share. We were here for a birthday, and they didn't do anything for that either. The saganaki is not flaming, it honestly was more like cheese curds. The artichoke appetizer we got was very strange and not at all what we were expecting. The arugula salad was nice and light. The duck gyros were fried eggrolls...not at all what we were expecting. The octopus was just one big fat strip with nothing else on the plate. Nothing special.

Dinner pick of Donna was Taxim, a Greek place not far from our apartment. Waitress was great help selecting food and wine. It was all unfamiliar for us. I ordered Souvlakia, wood fired pork skewers with grape tomatoes and seasoned fresh cut fries. All very good, nice rub and smoke on the pork. Donna ordered POLÍTIKI MELITZANOSALÁTA Politiki-style wood fire-roasted eggplants, sesame, house-made pita and FAKÉS KAS. FRÓSSOS Green lentils, barrel-fermented sheep's feta, balsamic reduction and Hallomi Saganaki which was like a Greek fried cheese curd. All of it was great, even the eggplant thing. (Yes I cut and pasted from the menu)

(10 out of 5) I ended up at Taxim during my Chicago trip and chose to sit on the rooftop -- which turned out to be the perfect choice. For us Californians who are spoiled by sunshine, Chicago's weather that weekend couldn't have been better: sunny, mid-70s, and just breezy enough to remind me I wasn't at home. The rooftop had heat lamps to soften the chill, and with music like O Askianos (Amanes) floating in the background, the whole vibe felt cozy and upscale without being pretentious. Compared to my evening at Virtue, the crowd here was smaller, conversations softer, and the whole experience more intimate -- almost like a hidden gem. Being in Wicker Park only added to the charm. The neighborhood has this hipster-chic energy, with eclectic boutiques and cocktail bars that honestly gave me flashes of San Francisco. It felt creative, a little artsy, and like Taxim fit right in. Food-wise, I started with the Saftalíes kai Maidanosaláta -- Cypriot lamb and pork sausage with parsley salad. The sausage was smoky, juicy, and gently spiced, but the Maidanosaláta stole the show. Fresh lemon and parsley gave it a brightness, with a little salty kick at the end that cut perfectly through the richness and spice of the meat. Balanced and layered -- I could've eaten a plate of just that salad. Next came the Paidákia me Pligoúri -- lamb chops with bulgur wheat. The chops were grilled to tender perfection with just the right amount of char, and the nutty bulgur kept everything grounded. Simple, soulful, and beautifully done. The staff suggested a glass of Porfyros, and wow -- what a pairing. The wine's structure and fruitiness worked so well with the parsley salad, and its subtle spice mirrored the smokiness of the lamb. It was one of those recommendations that makes the whole meal sing. And just when I thought I was done, my waitress convinced me to try dessert: the Bougatsa. Imagine layers of crisp phyllo around a warm, creamy semolina custard, dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon. Light yet indulgent, the pastry shattered with each bite. The real kicker? They paired it with a Greek version of a 20-year tawny port. Its caramel and dried fruit notes deepened every mouthful of the pastry -- an absolutely spot-on finish I didn't know I needed. Service was friendly and attentive -- nothing over the top like my Virtue experience, but steady and reliable, which fit the laid-back rooftop vibe. Overall, Taxim gave me something different than Virtue but equally special: a refined, intimate evening with food that felt both authentic and elevated. Between the hip Wicker Park setting, the spot-on wine and dessert pairings, and that unforgettable rooftop, Taxim is a place I'd gladly return to on my next trip.

Greek Yumminess happening here!!! I came here a few years ago on a date and enjoyed the outdoor seating. Service was impeccable as I believe the woman's name was Miranda. Dined inside this weekend and had another great experience with a lovely young lady by the name of Laboni...very good at her job as she broke down all the goodies for us and made our experience even better. Ambience is very nice as its an authentic Greek restaurant so it looks the part. Its definitely good Euro vibes here! Food here never disappoints and I recommend the following: Fried cauliflower ( KOUNOUPÍDI TIGANITÓ)/ capers and whipped goat feta Octopus (HTAPODÁKI STI SGÁRA) Hummus (Revithosalata) and pita Braised Lamb Shank (ARNÍ YUVETSÁKI) Wood Grilled Lamb Chops (PAÏDÁKIA ME PLIGOÚRI) Wild Boar (AGRIOGURUNO) Baklavas Greek Coffee Karavitakis Klima (medium body red wine) Everything I listed was delicious between both trips here! Great place for dates and group outings. I love this place and plan to take advantage of the rooftop patio that I just became aware of.

Wonderful! As a lover as Mediterranean cuisine, Taxim popped up in my area. Menu was authentic, service, Aribella, was extremely knowledgeable and guided us through the menu and wine list efficiently and professionally. Phenomenal wine list, looking forward to coming back and trying more wines from the region . Food was delicious, suggestion more tazitki! Lovely experience and I will be back!

Sitting on the rooftop was an awesome experience, it is really nice up there. The food was very very yummy and they had a wide variety of options on their menu. Highly recommend the tzatziki and cauliflower as apps. Heads up there is a 22% gratuity added to ALL checks and they add an even higher amount of gratuity for bigger groups. I thought this was excessive which is why it got 4 stars. Other than that it was a great experience.

I've found my new favorite Greek Restaurant in Chicago. The decor and atmosphere at Taxim definitely reflect the cuisine and the outdoor roof patio is gorgeous. The menu is a bit intimidating at first (it was all greek to me!) but the servers were all patient and knowledgeable. The food feels very authentic and not catered towards "typical American" audiences which is very rare. I truly felt transported while dining here.

a plate of food on a table - A plate of Greek cuisine includes grilled meat wrapped in pastry, topped with a drizzle of sauce and herbs, accompanied by crispy fries, sliced cucumbers, and a creamy white sauce or dip. The presentation is on a dark plate placed on a wooden table, with a blurred background.
