I was driving through the area decided to stop by to buy some bagels. I was surprised to see how busy it was during the afternoon on Sunday because I had to wait in line for about five minutes, no big deal but not expected. The bagels were better than average and the chocolate and cherry specialty bread was okay (a good concept but wouldn't buy again). A little bit pricey for what you get but not terrible pricewise. The parking situation is tricky as the parking lot is very small compared to the number of patrons - I had to find on street parking. I would return to try some of their other foods. read more

It was very clean with a huge variety. We ordered our food with a very polite employee and were sent to wait til our name was called. However, it was taking such a long time - over 15 minutes - that we finally caved and went looking for it. The employee we spoke to - Todd H. - was rude and impatient. He happened to find our food that had been sitting on the counter in a paper bag for the past few minutes. No apologies for the confusion and one snide remark later we finally had our food. Good place to grab a breakfast sandwich and coffee. I had "The Sunrise" -- scrambled egg, avocado, red onion and pepper jack cheese on a plain bagel, along with a latte. The order is taken at the counter. As others have noted, the menu can be difficult to read and confusing. Part of the issue seems to be with the grouping of the items. (I saw a person with a plate of scrambled eggs and bacon, not a sandwich. I'm sure it had to be somewhere on the menu, but I didn't see it.) When ordering I was asked if it was to stay or go. Since I was eating there, I was given a number on a metal stand to place on the table. A short while later someone brought my coffee, and the food came a few minutes after that. I liked the combination of ingredients that my sandwich contained. The scrambled eggs are in one piece (sort of like an omelet) with the other ingredients (cheese melted) stacked above and below. The bagel was reminiscent of an old-style NYC one -- dense and a bit on the chewy side, and not oversized like many currently are. The latte was as good as any I've had in the local coffee shops. It's more of a take-out place that has seating, than a restaurant to "dine out." (Perfectly ok, but no points for atmosphere or comfort.) read more

It is a nice mix of a sit down restaurant (they will bring your meal to the table) but then they leave you alone and you can stay a while and have a good conversation. The loyalty of locals to mediocre but longstanding institutions must be addressed. Ithaca appears to be a hub of this sentiment. Ithaca Bakery has as long as I have been in this city (17+ years) produced baked goods which categorically and across the board taste 2 days old when fresh. Roughly textured, mostly tasteless, and always always always: stale. This does not include their deep sea fishing sinkers, or bagels as they call them, which defy even the broadest definition of bagel. Dense, again roughly textured, and not at all resembling any authentic bagel in the known universe. When you're the only game in town, you can get away with being just average. read more

This bakery has the best bagels and delicious deli sandwiches in the area. The sandwiches are unique and topped with their social sauces and ingredients. The seating is limited to smaller groups but there is seating outside when weather is nice. I love their bagels sandwiches. This place is always a spot to stop by for breakfast, lunch, or to stock up on bagels. Make sure you get freezer bags. They will be fresh for days if kept in the freezer. read more

The size of the sandwich depends on what you order and it isn't always linked to price as most are a within a dollar or two of each other. Didn't get to try the deserts but the wife liked the lattes. Everything I have gotten from this place has been delicious! Their bagels are amazing, nice & crisp, they toast up nicely & arent "doughy." Their baked goods are always amazing & they rotate things around so you have differant items to choose from daily. If you plan on stopping on the way to work then allow yourself a little extra time because during peak times you may have to wait a little longer for your stuff, this is the only downfall really, but if you prepare its no big deal. read more

A college staple! Ithaca Bakery and it's Collegetown Bagels counterpart got me through weekend study sessions both due to the food and the space for hunkering down with a text book and lecture notes. Their sandwiches are delicious (I always add sprouts and avocado!) and their baked goods ever beckon you to consume the sweet sticky goodness. This location has a reasonable selection of other goodies including yogurts, grab and go salads and sandwiches, and an extensive selection of hot sauce, jam, and tea. I pre-ordered an 8" half & half cake for my mom's birthday. The cake looked great and was ready when I came to pick it up, but we ate it just a few hours later and it was super dry. The frosting fell off in a solid layer, since it couldn't stick to the cake. I have eaten at Ithaca Bakery numerous times since moving to Ithaca in the fall. I have had nothing but awesome experiences. I have some picky eaters in my extended family, and even they were all pleased. Everything I have eaten there has been perfect. Some favorite sandwiches: Susie's Garden (I ask for it on a hoagie roll), Tangled Up In Seitan, and Ithaca's Best Baked Vegan (I ask for this on a hoagie roll, also). So delicious. All the veg soups I have had have also been very good. One small gripe: there is a vegetarian/vegan sandwich section, but then there are other veg sandwiches scattered throughout the menu (that aren't on the veg menu). Just a little odd; and it would be a shame to miss out on a delicious option because it is not on the veg menu. The service is fast and friendly. It is always crowded, but we are always lucky enough to find a small table. I prefer the Triphammer location, hands down, due to availability of parking and restaurant layout. As "out of towners" we were totally confused. There are almost too many menu options. You get lost looking at the huge board on the wall. The woman who took our order had no patience for us in our lack of knowledge on how things operate there. Our egg and cheese on a bagel, which is a melissa?! I guess, was super bland. They microwave the egg and the bagels just weren't very good. Everything in the cases and on display looked delicious, but we were so flustered we just wanted to go hiking already. read more

The Ithaca Bakery - especially the main branch on Meadow/Route 13 - is a decent place to stop if you are visiting Ithaca or passing through town. They have a large selection of original sandwiches, baked goods, and drinks. It is a local "institution" where you can pick up a nice loaf of bread and snacks for your trip; everyone who knows Ithaca will ask you if you went there. But, if you live in Ithaca or visit town regularly, I think their high prices and the inconsistency in quality and wait time make it difficult to justify regular visits. A lunch sandwich, chips, and coffee can easily run $15-17. There are many better lunch options in town in that price range. The "Farm to Bakery" sandwiches, all of which feature locally-sourced ingredients and cost $9-11, are particularly tempting but extremely inconsistent: sometimes they are delicious, other times I throw out half of a burnt sandwich filled with tough meat.
