We came here for dinner last night at about 6ish, it wasn't too busy yet. We were seated immediately and our server, Jacob came right after to introduce himself. He was very friendly, attentive and patient as he came back a couple times to get our complete order between 5 of us. I wanted to try something new so I ordered the veggie and brown rice bowl with the grilled fish and teriyaki sauce. We got a couple appetizers, the spinach and artichoke dip was amazing as well as the nachos. But, whomever made my mangorita is the real MVP, delicious and refreshing and very tasty! Our food came shortly after and I instantly didn't like the fish. When Jacob came back, I apologized profusely and asked if I could switch to the chicken. He didn't give me any issues and even the manager had stopped by to chat and check in in regards to the order and to assure me that they were remaking it, no problem at all. Had I known that it was swordfish (not listed on the menu, but I should have asked) I would not have ordered it. I feel bad returning it, but super impressed that their customer service was totally on point. We come here often, but only on Sundays. And for one reason only....."WES!!!"...He is a total Gem. Treats us like Family EVERYTIME! He knows exactly what we want, and even remembers our names and drink orders. Food is Always delicious and on time. It's such a cool and chill atmosphere at this spot (and I've been to others). Update! A huge thank you to management who noticed my disappointment about the fish taco that arrived sans fish. They really did their best to let me know they're trying to correct mistakes, even inadvertent ones, and make their restaurant a top notch dining experience for their customers. However, this time I was really disappointed with my Doordash order. I got fish tacos, which are usually on point, but this time I was actually missing the fish out of one of the tacos! First off, the ambiance is great, the place was very clean. Not too loud. The staff was friendly. The food was really good, though messy (not necessarily a bad thing). The service was SLOW. We sat and it took over 10 minutes for a server to come take the drink order. When she came, we placed our order, and the food came in decent time. But we never saw our server again. A different server (eventually) came to refill drinks and give us a box for our leftovers. She also brought our check without asking if we wanted any dessert, which we did. We ordered a dessert, and as of me typing this, it's been 15 minutes and it hasn't shown up. They close in 20 minutes and are already closing down their tables Attempted to flag down an employee. One saw me and made eye contact, then turned and walked in a different direction. Update: they brought the dessert and took it off the bill. Bumped the rating up to a 4. I've been going to Islands for years and usually the experience is good, however, I decided to do take-out since I was short on time, and ordered a Hula burger and substituted the fries with mac & cheese for an additional $2.39. After getting home I noticed the Hula burger and bun was soggy, and then after opening up the container with the mac & cheese, it was apparent that the mac & cheese that was substituted for the fries was none other than Kraft mac & cheese from a box. C'mon Islands, other restaurants have their own recipes for this when substituted or added to a meal separately. It's not about the money, it's about the experience of having a decent meal and getting what you paid for, especially as expensive as eating out is anymore. If I wanted that kind of mac & cheese I could have hit the local grocery store for a box of Kraft mac & cheese and then headed home and make it myself. I must say that the service was extraordinarily amazing but the food was disgusting. Rachel was one of the best servers I've ever experienced. She was personable, most pleasant and attentive. I got the beach bowl. The swordfish was as dry as cardboard and really almost too hard and dry to swallow while the rice in my bowl was undercooked and hard. It was extremely unpleasant to eat it but we were a large party so I didn't want to cause issues. 4 of us got the same thing and one had to actually send her fish back because it was burned black on one side. We love coming here! Yes, it's touristy but I would only say that because everywhere you go has one. This particular one is always clean and the staff is always nice! My husband LOVES the burgers, my daughter loves the chicken fingers and I love everything else. Hahaha! I have had items from every part of their menu and it's always yummy! Today, I had the spicy shredded chicken nachos (forgot to take a picture) but the pile filled up a 12in plate. Lots of cheese and plenty of toppings. The drinks are good and made to order. A little pricey for the margarita but it was good. Hubby ordered a beer on tap and it came in a tall FROZEN beer mug with tons of frost on the outside! For two beers and two entrees our meal was over 8o dollars - absolutely ridiculous. I am not entirely sure why they have raised their prices so extensively but it is unacceptable. Not to mention the service here has gone down the drain.... The young server was actually nice and friendly (Rachel I believe was her name) but everyone else was absolutely horrendous. The very young girl that delivered our wings did not bring napkins, silverware or plates. She then awkwardly asked if we wanted side plates - which we answered yes, and also silverware..? A few minutes later she came back with the plates and napkins and awkwardly put them down and quickly scampered away. We had to call her and say, um we still need silverware.. she rolled her eyes and went back to get some. A few more minutes later she finally came back. After almost 10 minutes, we finally got silverware to eat our food which was no longer hot by that time. I'm not sure if this has to do with COVID or not but regardless; spending time training and observing employees that are working in customer service is very important. Always start with the onion rings. They're golden, they're crispy, the onions are slightly sweet, and are matched perfectly with their ranch. Some of my favorite go-to items are the Toucan sandwich (grilled teriyaki chicken with sliced pineapple) and either the Island Steak or the Northshore tacos. It really just depends how big your appetite is. This place has become one of my top favs. EVERYTHING is so good, and they're great about catering to your specific tastes and needs. They're so friendly and accommodating, and they take allergies seriously which is HUGE for any restaurant. One of the managers' names is Allison, and I really can't say enough about how great she is at her job and customer service. Restaurant manager perfection. I'd like to give her and islands 10 stars for giving me a killer place to eat with great, well seasoned/cooked food and awesome staff. Another impressive thing about this place is that they treat delivery orders as if you are eating in the restaurant. I hate to admit that most restaurants (even the really good ones) treat to go/delivery orders as low priority and often times, even as an inconvenience.
