Wanted to try Islands happy hour! Verdict: Service - 4/5 Food - 3/5 Drinks - 5/5 I wanted to start by giving kudos to Shelby! She was doing the absolute most for the restaurant, and she was giving kindness to everyone at the bar even though they seemed to be swamped. The drinks were delicious! Both of the Happy Hour cocktails I tried were tasty and didn't skimp on the alcohol. The House Lager I sipped was also delightful. My biggest letdown was the food! There was just simply no flavor. They were just so lackluster, and didn't quite sit well in the hours afterwards. I wouldn't go for the Bites. Tip: You need to ask the host to be seated at the bar or patio to be able to order off the Happy Hour menu. read more

Stopped by for dinner with my family and our party of 7 was seated quickly. Unfortunately the menu looked quite different from when I grew up but they still had good burger, taco and salad options. My boyfriend and I shared the chop salad with fried chicken and ranch, as well as the fries. The salad was good, it was massive and loaded with toppings. Ranch dressing was good but quite thin, probably would've preferred it to be a bit thicker as it didn't coat the salad and was light in taste. The fries were good as well. We came for dinner at 5pm on Sunday. We frequently come to this Islands because the service is usually great. Tonight was completely different. It was absolutely empty. We asked to sit in the larger table in the back corner as we were a party of 6. We sit at this table every time we come to this Islands. We were told that this is reserved for 8 or more. While we were eating dinner, a party of 5 was sat at this table. The service was mediocre. Margaritas and beer came before sodas. The server was not attentive to the table at all. Been visiting Islands since the early days in Beverly Hills. Almost always consistent service and food. Occasionally... rarely the wheels come of the train with new wait staff and no manager taking charge. That said remains a staple choice for COLD beer and a solid burger with some of the best fries, onion rings and other many healthier choices too. I rarely visit here, but there seem to be a lot of regulars in the bar area. The bartender here was very efficient, and even though they serve a lot of beers here, the bartender is great with mixed drinks. The burgers here are always winners and come with many options. Went here craving burgers. Got sat right away because maybe 6 tables were taken but we waiting about 8-10 min waiting for our server to greet us so decided to go to the bar. We frequent this Islands In Fountain Valley, even though we are closer to the Islands In Bella Terra. It's just the was it works out. We are ALWAYS greeted at the front door with the host opening the door with a welcome smile. We listen to the surf music as we were seated. In a few minutes our server greets us with a warm smile. The servers are on top of the specials and know which items are additional costs and which are included. (We've had issues in the past) On this particular day, we came in after lunch and I ended up with 3 chicken soft tacos instead of 2. Wow! What a lot of food. The tacos were great, lots of chicken and the tortilla was super soft. I usually get the Big Wave hamburger but this time my husband ordered his favorite burger. As usual, it didn't disappoint. Went in on a saturday for happy hours but it was to busy to get a spot so we had a booth and our server Annika was absolutely amazing. we came in a little late and she had a bunch of other customers to take care of but never forgot about us. the food was quick and very good. we ordered the Moai Crisp and the nachos. I used to come often at Island as I live close by, but then they got greedy with price gouging. They changed the happy hour menu by removing favorites and increased others. We a horrible experience recently. Several minutes to be acknowledged at the hostess area; 10 minutes minimum to be greeted by a server; beer was good but the food has fallen so far in terms of quality and value. Then as we were waiting for our check, one of the staff (very sweaty) sat down and told us how he had a huge headache. It was bizzaro. 3.5 stars Islands is a reliable homie - sometimes with it and sometimes not. In any case, that's who you go to when you're somewhere in between. The fries are sometimes rancid - cooked in old oil and hollow in the middle. No bueno 95% of the time. Their kid's mac & cheese is comparable to Kraft, so unless you have to, don't do it. I recently had their chicken club wrap ($10.99) and it was surprisingly delicious. It's grilled sliced chicken breast, applewood bacon smoked bacon, avocado, cheddar jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, ranch dressing + bbq sauce served on a flour tortilla. The tang of the ranch was offset by the sweetness of the bbq. It was so tasty. Because it's a chilled wrap, the flavors were still prevalent even when I ate it later in the day. I love the food at Islands Restaurant, but in their quest to maximize every penny of profit, I believe they do not consider the needs of their customers. In my case, I am 82 years old and for the last 15 years have found I have an intolerance to cheap Canola Oil. Like at any new restaurant, when I first ate at Islands, I asked if they use Canola Oil. They said yes and I avoided ordering fries or any deep fried foods. Occasionally, I will forget and eat a couple onion rings of my wife's. Unfortunately, this gives me 2 hours of diarrhea. I usually order the Northshore Tacos and have few problems. If they cook the tiny bits of chicken in Canola Oil, I will sometimes have several hours of cramps. I have requested management to consider some other cooking oil, but Canola Oil is very very cheap. Some people say it is cheaper than used motor oil. Anyway, I learned the cheapest Canola Oil is processed with Hexane, a petroleum product, and a small trace amount remains in the oil. Also the cheapest oil on the market also has been reported to have elevated levels of Erucic Acid. Anyway, cold-pressed Canola Oil does not seem to bother me, but it does cost a few pennies more per gallon. I am not the only senior citizen with sensitive bowels, but many people do not know cheap Canola Oil may be the problem. read more

I really don't think the food at this place is worth it. It's very meh, bland, greasy, and everything tastes dirty to me. I've had burgers, sides, chicken sandwiches, apps... and I always end up not eating all my food because it's just not tasty and seriously dirty tasting to me. Like the hamburger and chicken meat all has this old blood flavor to it. The spinach artichoke dip today tasted almost spoiled. Onion rings were crispy but tasted like old grease. You couldn't taste the onion at all. The food is served hot at least. It's probably fine with a couple beers in your system. The waitress we usually get is excellent though. She works really hard and is very nice. I think they are under staffed, it's always busy around lunch and sometimes it's a bit slow to get things, including the check. The women's room bathroom are often dirty. overall I cant recommend this place. read more
