Tried this place yesterday. Asked if they had a kids menu and they did. The inside of the restaurant was decorated in a beach/ Hawaiian theme. Everything looked clean. The service was great. We were seated immediately and was given a choice where to sit. Since my kid is sometimes noisy so I picked a place farthest away from people. My kid had the chicken strips with fries and I had the pineapple burger cooked medium. My kid really liked his chicken strips which was a good thing. I like when he eats. I was given a choice whether I wanted a white or wheat bun. I got the white bun. My pineapple burger was huge. It had teriyaki sauce in it so be prepared. It's sticky and messy. It was cooked perfect. The fries were good too. Seemed like they added a little garlic seasoning on them. The food portion was great. I left there stuffed and satisfied. I had lunch at this place today while visiting Del monte shopping center in Monterey. It has been a long time since I was kast here at this resteraunt. I ordered the basic hamburger called the big wave. I had them put cheese on it. Overall, pretty good place with a great vibe. We sat outside, and the atmosphere was really cool with palm trees and nice music. I ordered the burger, and while it was cooked well, the seasoning on top was a bit off-putting. The service was good, though I found it odd that we had to specifically request water. Once we did, they were very attentive with refills--even when we didn't ask for them. It seemed contradictory to show concern for water conservation but then overdo it on refills once we had a glass. Got here 30 min before they closed. but the gentleman at the bar took great care of us. They had great service. The took our order and brought the food in a timely manner. We started with some wings. And the wings where a 8/10 great flavor some had good meat and some didn't have much meat but the wings where great to start of. The burgers here always great, the flavors stays pretty consistent with any burger you get. And perfect to enjoy with a draft beer. I was here 6 months ago and the service was poor. I had a craving for a Hawaiian burger and Islands is the best! I'm happy to report that CJ gave me the best service. He listened and served my order timely and perfect. Islands is redeemed. I requested a booth and selected another one than the one he chose for me. CJ had nothing about that. I had the beer flight. I don't like hops. CJ altered the flight to my preference. I requested light on the teriyaki sauce and he added some sauce on the side just in case. I didn't need it. We were walking around the Del Monte Shopping Center and found this place. Though they don't take reservations, we were able to place our name on a list. We were eager to have a sit-down meal at a restaurant even though it was only out door (California opened up for outdoor dining about a week ago). We were seated promptly by the host close enough to a heater, so even though it was in the mid 50's, it was tolerable. Our server was Adrian and he was friendly and took care of us as best he could. We ordered chips and salsa, I ordered the fish tacos (Corn tortilla) and my wife ordered the Beach Bow, which was chicken, veggies, brown rice and Teriyaki sauce. We never got our chips and salsa so I had to remind our server to make sure to remove it from the bill (which he did). The fish tacos were really good. The portions was just enough and the fish and spices was exactly what I was craving for. The Beach Bowl was good but as a suggestion, see if you can get the teriyaki sauce on the side because it's on the salty side. The food was OK, but a bit pricey. That's OK. What wasn't OK was the "service." Although the place was mostly empty (we went late on a weeknight), it took quite a while for our server to come to our table, and the food took forever. Did they have to go to the store to get ingredients they ran out of? The food was hot and tasted fine, but why did we have to wait more than 30 minutes for a simple order when the restaurant was nearly empty? I've been to other Islands locations, and they were fine. This one appears to be poorly managed. I wouldn't be surprised to see it close its doors. I won't be back. read more

My local Islands closed due to the pandemic, so when we came in to Monterey to visit family over the weekend, we of course wanted to go to Islands. While everything tasted just as yummy as I remember, I was kind of surprised by the uncleanliness of the restaurant. When we arrived around 6ish, they were not busy, however, there were several unbussed tables. Now, forgive me if I am wrong, but instead of having servers stand around chatting when the restaurant is a mess, doesn't it look very welcoming to customers coming in right?! Right! It was yucky. However, our server was still very nice. She took our order right away, and our burgers were served a bit after. My favorite has been, and will probably forever be the Maverick. It's no longer on the menu, but you can still order it. Cannot stress enough that you should save your hard earned money and stay away. Ordered takeout and picked up at 17 minutes of a 15-20 minute estimate provided. 5 minute drive home. Ordered a burger (we'll done) and fries. 1. The burger was pink throughout, which, uhhhh, is not well done. The bottom of part of the bun was soaking and fell apart, making it obvious they just slapped the wet lettuce on it. 2. Fries were ice cold, stale and obviously the end of whatever bag they were poured from, with very few fries longer than an an inch with most of those on the bottom literally broken end pieces of a quarter inch. Ordered Impossible (Hawaiian) and Onion Rings 1. Kinda hard to screw up a plant based burger, but, hey, if is is colder than room temp it is screwed up. 2. Order of onion rings contained exactly 5 rings, FIVE! I had more onion slices on each burger in the order. Oh! And cold! For a "gourmet burger" joint, gotta say, Jack and Mickey D have this place beat. And to think what I could have bought for dinner elsewhere for the $40 price tag. I was jammed up for here. read more

Island's is one of our go to for a kid friendly Friday night dinner. The grilled chicken sandwich is delicious and one of my favorite's is the tortilla soup. It's really good! Pairs great with a small Caesar salad. The bar drinks are pretty good and not too pricey. The hamburgers are hit or miss. Steer clear of the fish tacos - not fresh and the flavor is meh. Living in Cupertino, this is the closest Islands to us! Although it's an hour away we still find reasons to make the drive down. I love the island fries (cheddar or regular), the maui burger, and the tiki tenders. I also love that they now offer turkey parties to swap out! As a non red-meat eater this is a huge game changer for me. I used to be limited in what I could order, but having this option allows me to order whatever my heart desires! Went last night, Christmas tree lighting, so a very busy night for Del Monte Shopping Center for sure. Group of 7, outdoor dining. Best waiter, very attentive even with all the people. Ordered nachos, sliders for the kids, burgers - all good. The sliders ended up being actual burgers so the kids weren't really into it, waiter said they'd take burgers off our bill but that didn't happen. Islands restaurant is a great Spot with a California survive and a little snowboarding thrown in. I was in the mood for fish and chips but ordered a hamburger because they had no fish and chips.! My guest chose the Big Wave burger and it was enough for two people. Ordered a side of onion rings which were crisp and held up under the batter. I ordered the Hula Burger opted for a lettuce wrap instead of their yummy lightly grilled bun. The burger was teeming with mushrooms sautéed in 'heaven'! I don't know when I've tasted such delicious mushrooms in fact, I would like a whole order of just mushrooms simply delicious. Service was prompt wait staff friendly and they have a terrific happy hour every day from 3 to 6 PM. We go to Islands regularly because they have consistently great service, atmosphere and food! The bartenders and servers are friendly and the restaurant is always clean. My husband loves the tiki tenders and I love the spinach dip! We both love the burgers (turkey burger for me) and salads. There are lots of TV's which makes it a great place to watch sports too! They recently got a new manager (Abbas) who always greets us warmly and helps out wherever needed. These things are the marks of an excellent restaurant! read more

The staff at Islands was amazing! We had our whippet with us so we were planning to place an order to go. Our host Jorge, informed us that they had an outdoor seating area that could accommodate us. When he took us outside we were amazed. It was an enclosed heated area with a fireplace! Jillian our server was amazing. She was super attentive and made sure we were felt cared for. She always made sure our cups were full and checked in frequently to see if we needed anything. The food and drinks were great as usual. Hats off to the manager Abbas and his entire staff. We came in for dinner and waited 12 minutes and was not greeted by a server. I was able to get the attention of the busser and she went and got our server. After we ordered we never saw the server again. Runners brought out food, it came out hot which was good. We never saw anyone after our food was dropped. No beverage refills or service at all. At the end of the meal we were waiting again. The busser came over again to clear our table and ask if we needed anything. The service was horrible except for the busser, Dylan who was the most attentive and looked like the only one working while other employees were gathered in the corner visiting with each-other.
