We came here hangry after waiting over 30 minutes at a different restaurant that said they had a 5 minute wait. Islands sat us immediately. Service was quick and friendly and checked on us without hovering. Our food and drinks came out quickly and we honestly couldn't be happier with the meal. Kids had chicken tenders, fries, and sweet potato fries. Hubs and I split a tasting flights of cocktails (cute and delicious), I had the Kahlua pork tacos, and hubs had a burger with side salad. Their burgers are typical burgers. Those pork tacos were absolutely amazing though. We hadn't been here in a couple of years, but we will definitely be back again soon. read more

My friend and I were supposed to dine in somewhere but decided to go here instead. The guy that greeted us is nice and courteous with all smiles. And then came our server, I think her name is Kaylee (I asked the guy who greeted us). She gave us the feeling that's she's not in a good mood, not even smiling and rude at some point. I asked for a hot water and she gave me an ice cold water. Seems like her mind was off on serving us that day (happened yesterday 4-21). The foods are okay, we both ordered salads and it's not something that you would go back to. The restaurant is clean so that and spacious. Was completely ignored by every bar/ wait person at the bar. In fact I wasn't even greeted when I sat down while others (probably regulars) were and in fact, were able to order. I love every islands atmosphere including this one but unfortunately I wasn't able to enjoy due to the un-customer like service. Islands Burgers and fries are always a hit. This is a popular chain in Southern California, but although they are still around, they seem to be slowly fading away in my area. We hadn't been to an Islands in a very long time, and the day we went to this location, it wasn't very busy, which was actually nice for us. My wife and I both got the Big Wave burgers, while my son got the chicken tenders. All of it was good, but nothing exceptional. It's on par with other similar type restaurants such as Applebee's or Chili's. For the price it's decent, but I probably wouldn't go here again. Service was nice and the waitress was friendly and helpful. I just can't give it high recommendations since the food was just okay, but considering Chipotle probably cost similarly to Island's burger and fries, I can't knock it down too much either. Surpassed all my expectations!....I ordered the Kilauea burger, substituted with a Garden Veggie patty, and sweet potato fries w/ ranch. The burger was very flavorful; excellent! It does have jalapeño pieces in it so it has a little bit of spice. The seasonings and flavor combination make it taste almost like a fish sandwich even though it was a veggie patty. I wouldn't change a thing and we'll definitely go back again. My husband ordered the Malibu burger and loved it as well. I really like Islands- they have a super good happy hour, the inside is clean, the staff is nice, the food is good! I like the theme and vibe of the place as it has good music and tiki decor. Visited the Islands at Del Monte Shopping Center recently. Service was solid -- Manager Alvaro and our server Jasmine were both friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. Food was okay, but one issue: appetizers came out at the same time as the main course. I'd prefer them to arrive beforehand -- kind of defeats the purpose otherwise. Not a dealbreaker, but definitely something that could improve the experience. Overall, decent spot with great service, but a few timing tweaks in the kitchen would go a long way. read more

For a place to take in 12-14 people off the bat is pretty accommodating. They were able to put a couple of tables together that ensured we were all together - so that was nice. A little sticky overall but what do you expect when its a burger drenched in teriyaki sauce and has pineapple? I was actually surprised by the meat/beef as it was actually tasty. I say this scratched our island/burger fix and if you're yearning for that, stop on by. I can understand how some rate it 3 stars but I gave it 4 because I'm considering the type of food and locations there are. It kind of reminds me of like an Applebees but Hawaiian. Went at 3:00, was sat down immediately as there is no one here. We asked for waters and then the server disappeared for 20 minutes. We saw her chatting with another servers child, then another server told her to take our order. She came and took our order. Then 30-40 minutes later we got our starter of cheddar fries and with that came our meal. Poor service. I asked for the Maui burger, don't have it, guacamole tastes terrible. When they took my burger as I didn't like it, the manager told me she doesn't like the guacamole either. Wished I knew that beforehand. Terrible service. What an Awesome Experience we had at Islands Restaurant at Del Monte Shopping Center in Monterey yesterday! We were greated by a friendly staff, and seated quickly. The server, Jessica was very nice. The food came quickly and was cooked exactly like we ordered. Jessica checked back with us often, and offered us dessert when we were finished with the lunch. The manager Abbas checked with us at the end of the meal to make sure everything was good. We assured him that the service by Jessica was great and the cooks did a great job with the food and it was very good. We also assured Abbas that this was the best service that we have had at any restaurant in town for quite a while, and we would be back soon. Stopped by with a friend for an impromptu quick bite. Atmosphere: This place gives you American diner vibes more than anything "island" centered. It was pretty empty for it being happy hour but that worked in our favor since there was no wait to be greeted or seated. We sat outside in the patio area. They had a cute fireplace running which was perfect for the cold day we were having today. All the seats and tables we saw looked well maintained and clean. Food: The food was good but not amazing. The nachos were loaded with cheese and there were generous portions of guacamole and sour cream on top as well. What's not to like? The sliders were good as well but the toast on the inside of the bun was way too heavy and was borderline burnt. The outside of the sliders were definitely fairly greasy and I don't understand why. Maybe they brushed them with butter? The portion of meat is fairly thin on the inside, but they are generous with the shoestring style onions. I've give the nachos an 8/10 and the sliders a 7/10. The value for happy hour is pretty good considering you're getting 3 sliders for under 7 bucks! Service: Once we were seated outside, service was pretty slow. I think they are shortstaffed just like most dining establishments nowadays. The manager came and checked on us a few times, and he was very friendly and outgoing. Our waitress barely spoke a single word to us, and only visited our table twice.
