Lunch Duo Deals, Above: Brisket Burnt Ends Pizza and Tortilla Soup, Below: Original BBQ Chicken Pizza and Thai Crunch Salad
Megan L.

I stopped by here for lunch while attending a conference nearby and found it to be within expectations of a California Pizza Kitchen experience. Inside, the decor is in your standard CPK style, but it was clearly an older building, with all the booths having some sort of damage and overall appearing faded. Several groups of local patrons were eating, and there was full number staff present. I appreciate that service was pretty quick. We were able to order from the Lunch Duos menu which is available from 11am-4pm Monday-Friday. *Original BBQ Chicken Pizza (7"): The most popular pizza from CPK, this one was very standard in terms of flavor and amount of chicken. I was surprised at how thick the crusts were for the 7" pizzas. *Thai Crunch Salad with Avocado: I actually liked this salad the most of the four dishes ordered. The greens were fresh, there was a decent amount of chips, and the peanuts and dressing created a nice tangy balance that felt light when eating it. You have to pay more to add the avocado, but the amount they give is fair and the avocado was fresh. *Brisket Burnt Ends Pizza (7"): This is one of the more recent pizza types CPK came out with a while back. There was a good amount of brisket, though some of it slightly dry. The meat is a little sweet, and I think the addition of the red onions complements it really well. *Sedona Tortilla Soup: The tortilla soup was thick and came topped with tortilla chips. You can taste the green tomato and some mild chillies, but overall not the most memorable for me. Overall, I think this is a fine place to stop by when you need a quick meal, and there's a decent amount of options to choose from. If I was in the area and wanted to sit down for a quick bite, I would consider coming back.

Margherita Pizza , Five Cheese Fresh Tomato

9.5/10 Absolutely amazing thin-crust pizza! We ordered the Margherita Pizza and the Five Cheese Fresh Tomato, and both were unique and incredibly enjoyable. The Margherita Pizza was a classic done right, tomato sauce topped with diced fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, and freshly grated Parmesan. The crust was perfectly thin and crispy, and the flavors were simple but spot-on. The Five Cheese Fresh Tomato Pizza was the standout and our favorite of the two. We added mushrooms, which took it to the next level. It tasted like it had a light cream sauce and was loaded with mozzarella, gouda, Monterey Jack, and Romano. Rich, flavorful, and highly recommended. This pizza will not disappoint! Both pizzas were thin crust, crispy, and cooked perfectly. Service was fast and efficient, even though the place was busy. The ambiance was lively, and the staff was attentive throughout. Overall, a great experience we'll definitely be back!

Overall a good experience. I hadn't been to a CPK in awhile and was happy to visit there when we were at the mall. When we walked in, the host said it would take a few minutes to wait for a table or we could sit at the bar for faster service. We sat at the bar but the service did not seem any faster. I think they were just short-staffed, which is kind of a problem a few days before Christmas at a mall location. We did have to ask a few times about the status of our food. The veggie pizza on thin crust was really good - nice and light with fresh veggies. We also ordered this spicy chicken dumpling salad that was really good. I would definitely order both again. I could see this also being a fun place to sit and have drinks or go for happy hour. I would go again but temper my expectations about getting in and out quickly.

Lunch special. Nice size personal pizza, huh?

Service was A1. Top notch. Danielle never disappoints. I arrived at the perfect time. 3pm. Happy hour and lunch time. There are very reasonable lunch specials and $7 wine by the glass. 2 wines and 2 lunch specials. I'm stuffed.

We've been here a few times now. We find the food to be just okay. I've had a salad and a veggie pizza there and I don't think I'd order either of them again. The pizza was so bland and the broccoli uncooked. Salad was bland as well. My husband really likes the shrimp pasta but I just haven't found what I like there. Love the bread. They are always very busy and it's hard to get attention as well. They are all working so hard there.

California Pizza Kitchen is a classic and I enjoy their frozen pizzas when I'm too lazy to cook. Just to preface, 3 stars isn't bad. I tried the white corn guacamole and chips, the works pizza, and the braised short rib ragu. The ragu actually exceeded my expectations, with the meat bring super tender and the sauce having a deep, savory flavor. The other two dishes were just alright. I feel like it's hard for a pizza to really blow me away unless I'm in New York. The service and atmosphere were both good, but overall it was a pretty average meal.

Great service and delicious pizza .. Good place to take the family .. Also very clean

My leftovers, about half of my huge delicious SPINACH salad. Yum!

Meh. Last time I went here was really good. This time left much to be desired. The waitress was horrible, even tho the restaurant was not busy. I asked for a refill on my ice tea and she lbrought Luke warm iced tea and didn't bother getting me more ice. The salad sucked. I took half home with me for dinner and it literally was just a bunch of slop when I tried to eat it 5 hours later. I guess they no longer do spinach salads. Whatever. But I specified what I wanted, she just didn't care and not another word was mentioned about my request. My mom felt sick after the meal. Ugh I feel like CPK is like roulette. Sometimes it's decent, sometimes it sucks. Over $100 for 3 of us to eat lunch with one app. Nah....ill go elsewhere next time. You probably should too.

Hard dried out dumplings that were not edible
Mary M.

Tasty or WasteY???? Totally WasteY!!!!! We come here when we visit Monterey. I rarely review because if I did four times out of five, it would be a bad review. First, I ordered the dumplings which I ordered often and I think they left them out of the freezer to where the meat dried out and got hard inside and they still tried to give them to me twice. Then they tried to talk me into having them fried. thinking that if they are fried, I wouldn't notice that the meat was still hard and and dried out. And then there were the rotten tomatoes on my salad. I think somebody needs to come into this place and teach them about quality. The quality of the food. You can't feed people, dog food and expect them to tell you how wonderful it was. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Pizzas

My bf and I came here this weekend for the first time while visiting and we thought the food was great. We were unsure how it would be based off the reviews but we loved it. We both got pizza and had no complaints very tasty. The inside is really nice and clean also. We would definitely come back.

I have never been to a California Pizza Kitchen before but it was in the area and I wanted pizza. I asked our waiter for suggestions but he referred me to the yellow boxes on the menu as those are the popular choice. Our pizza arrived hot and fresh and by fresh I mean the vegetables tasted like they came fresh from the garden. I will definitely be a return patron! The restaurant is a California Mediterranean style, skateboards and surfboards on the walls while looking like Italy. I was well pleased. Thanks!

Lunch special

They have great weekday lunch special. We ordered two personal sized pizza, a soup, and a salad. All of them were delicious and great for a power lunch. They also have a beautiful outdoor patio.

I've had this charcuterie salad at this location multiple times, and it never fails to impress. It's listed under CPK Salads on the menu.
Robin L.

This location is always busy. It's always a good spot to pop in and have a quick meal. I love the charcuterie salad. It's a meal in itself. Love sitting at the bar watching a game.

On our first visit, we both got pastas. Our second visit, we got the seasonal berry salad (absolutely incredible, 100% order it) and the cake sampler. I don't think I can explain in text just how much cake was included in this cake sampler. The regular cake slices served here are large, but this sampler, for $20, came with what felt like 3 full large slices of cake still! We loved all 3 cakes we tried (double chocolate, carrot, banana walnut), but a month after our trip, my mom and I are still talking about how amazing the banana walnut was. I would go back just for this cake it was that good, please order it. Service was also attentive and quick! I usually enjoy taking leftovers home rather than letting food go to waste, but we were traveling in and out of town that day, so I couldn't finish much of what I ordered. Overall, it's a classic brunch spot in the heart of Monterey, welcoming tourists and locals alike. Montrio is a restaurant struggling with the same dilemma everyone wanting to open a fine-dining…read morespot in a touristy area does. The closer you are to ground zero-Fisherman's Wharf in SF or Pikes Market, Seattle-the harder it is to remain profitable. Geographically, the density of Taco Bells and tee shirt shops increases. So, kudos to Montrio for trying to run an up-scale business as close as they are to the Wharf. Unfortunately, they fall well short of the mark. We arrive early and the place was nearly empty. To start with, we ordered the Porcini Pomme Frites ($14) as an appetizer. The fries came out limp and starchy-raw in the center. I sent them back. The replacement or refry of the original batch came back a little past GBD. They pushed the limit on the far side of doneness. And they tasted exactly and precisely like In-And-Out's awful fires. The match was amazing. For reasons known only to the Snyder family, and in spite of endless terrible reviews from food critics, I-A-O refuses to double-cook their fries. So they come out tasteless with an off-putting consistency. Not qualities anyone should try and emulate, IMHO. Now, ostrich and octopus, for example, are famously difficult to cook correctly. But fries are the polar opposite easy to do well. To screw them up twice in a slow kitchen at a $14 price point is inexcusable. I knew we were in for a rocky ride. I ordered the scallops. Yes, you guessed correctly, the kitchen screwed them up big time too. They had a light seer and were stone-cold raw in the center. The creamed corn side was excellent BTW, but not forty nine dollars good. Why didn't I send them back? Well, first, I knew they couldn't cook fries or scallops. Why would their second effort on the second course hold out any promise. Secondly, I refuse to be that guy who sends every course back, even when it should be. At a certain point my philosophy is shut up, learn your lesson, and share an honest review so that other might avoid the sad experience. My wife had the short ribs and enjoyed them. I thought they were dry, which is hard to achieve with fatty short ribs. Her mashed potatoes were okay, though under-seasoned. But if she was happy, so was I.

Our server was very nice and attentive, but there was some unevenness in the courses due to a disconnect between what he described and what the kitchen actually delivered. For example, I mentioned that my partner has an aversion to cilantro, and in one course the kitchen actually replaced it entirely with chives, which was amazing. However, when our server came by, he mentioned they had put the cilantro on the side. In another dish, a full cilantro stalk came right on top of the plate. Not a huge deal since we could just pick it off, but it was a sign of inconsistency in service. We also ordered the cod dish, and when we mentioned we were avoiding undercooked proteins, our server said he would make sure it was cooked through, which confused me a bit since I believe cod is always fully cooked through. On to the food itself, we started with the plum lacquered duck kefta, which came out on two cinnamon sticks used as the skewers. These were absolutely fantastic, with the yogurt sauce acting as the perfect foil for the expertly seasoned duck and the cinnamon stick adding a subtle spice. The Moss Landing black cod was likewise delicious, with the cod cooked to a buttery and flaky texture, and it was paired with a sumptuous vanilla bean butter sauce over a bed of pepper and green bean panzanella that was out of this world. My only complaint was that for the steep price, the portion was quite small. The curried lamb shoulder was exceptional as well. It arrived with a striking presentation, encased in a three-quarter dome puff pastry shell filled with shredded lamb shoulder meat. It came with a side of some kind of fruit compote or chutney, though we were not given a detailed description of most dishes. This portion felt appropriate for the price and was the favorite of the night. We mentioned we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and while we were not expecting anything over the top, we were a bit disappointed when we saw them bring out a dessert with a candle for what I assume was a birthday celebration at another table. For a restaurant of this caliber and at this price point, I have always experienced at least some sort of gesture, even if just a small card or message at the table. Overall, we had a pleasant evening, but it is not somewhere we would return to based on the uneven service and the mismatch between price and portions.

I wanted something to drink that wasn't sweet, so I tried their raspberry ice tea. They used a sugary syrup to flavor the tea, and that was a strike out. It was sweeter than a soda, so it went back and I swapped it out for a plain unsweetened ice tea. Then we tried the cheesy garlic bread, which we were really looking forward to. Welp, it came out with mozzarella cheese and a ton of corn. No butter. No garlic. We all looked at each other when we tried it. Ok, let's try their brussel sprouts. Those are hard to mess up - but sure enough, they managed to. They deep fried them to the point they were black and charred. There wasn't anything left of the brussel sprout itself, it was mostly crunchy charcoal. At this point, we all ordered something we assumed would be safe for our main. I got the sliders and a side salad. I had the salad but only of the sliders. The cheese on it was queso, like you use to dip chips, so it was ran all over the place and the burger was a grease ball. The hosts and servers were also wonderful throughout the evening--friendly, attentive, and professional. Unfortunately, the experience took a turn when our steak arrived. It was ordered medium but came out closer to medium-well/well and tasted noticeably burnt. My husband has never sent a steak back before and was actually very hesitant to say anything. Our server was incredibly kind about it, immediately took the steak back, and made us feel completely comfortable bringing it up. Unfortunately, that's when the experience became really uncomfortable. The manager personally brought the steak back out to our table, essentially to show us the steak and explain that, in his opinion, it was medium. We were then asked what we wanted to do. Rather than feeling like our concern was being heard, it felt like we were being challenged for sending back a steak that we simply felt was overcooked. Our entire table became uncomfortable, and there were definitely some awkward looks from surrounding tables. What made it even more frustrating was that, on our walk to the bathroom, we noticed another table had also sent food back. So it was especially uncomfortable to feel as though our table was being treated like we had done something unreasonable by asking for our steak to be cooked to the temperature we ordered. They eventually brought out another steak, but it was well-done on one side and medium-rare on the other. By that point, our table was ready to leave, and the whole situation had put a pretty significant damper on what was supposed to be a fun night with a large group. Afterward, we also noticed that we had been charged for an extra wine glass during happy hour. It was only $5, so we decided it wasn't worth bringing up after an already uncomfortable interaction with management, but unfortunately, it added to the overall impression. We do want to emphasize that the restaurant itself is beautiful, and Tori, our server, and the hosts were genuinely kind and professional. The staff who actually served us did their best to make the evening enjoyable. Unfortunately, the way the steak situation was handled by management turned what should have been a simple issue into a very unpleasant and awkward experience for our entire table. For that reason, despite the positives, we probably won't be returning.

Service was excellent once we…read moregot past the hostess stand (not bad, just not quite the personality needed for this restaurant). The ambiance was straightforward, with simple elegance. Not showy, focused on the food. We will definitely go back.

The service was amazing because the staff were very friendly and accommodating when taking our orders. I had an awesome dining experience and reservation is a must because it gets really packed, especially the weekends. Alaskan halibut: I love that it was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. It was very fresh and very well seasoned. I highly recommend trying this for an entree. Chocolate truffle torte: Ordered this to end the evening and I love it was very warm and fluffy. The passion fruit syrup was amazing so it was really good. Nancy's buttery buttermilk biscuit, mixed field greens salad, and fried California squid: Nancy's buttery buttermilk biscuit was my favorite of all time because the crunchiness of the biscuit was amazing and came out warm so it was very good. Mixed field greens salad was perfectly seasoned and it had the perfect amount of dressing. Fried California squid was also my favorite because it was very fresh and flavorful so it is a must get.

Incredible. We came…read morehere for our honeymoon and just came for my birthday. One of my favorite restaurants ever. First, the ambiance and view. At night you can see scuba divers who are brave enough to do a night dive right outside the windows, and during the day, it's a Mecca of otters and seals playing. You can't beat it. The food and the service are stars here. We did a prefix, two different ones, and had such a fun time trying one another's food. Martinis are served cold, and delicious here. Ge

I…read moreoriginally booked a reservation for Friday but due to an unforeseen problem at another restaurant, I was able to get a Thursday night reservation for three at 6 pm here. After checking in, we were seated at a window side table facing the bay. After getting our menus, we decided to have the three-course menu, though I did add a supplement for our meals to share. I asked about mocktails and our waitress suggested this, a pomegranate mojito (). For my meal, here's I ordered from the Choice menu: 1st course Tomato and fennel soup, shrimp dumpling, squash blossom, toasted sourdough (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=168&select=PMKIsV5rFcg9C2BGzQFsrA). 2nd course Hokkaido scallops, toasted farro, golden peach, roasted bell pepper broth (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=168&select=qHDBo855HJeKwzlDRE_O9w). 3rd course Baba au rum, local peaches, buttermilk, almond crumble (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=168&select=Fsv7ar1rcCVpKgo0nLf6Eg). Valhrona Manjera chocolate delice, creme anglaise, hazelnut, cherry sorbet (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=168&select=rQqh85ifpAz16wGwpiaF2A). Additions: Oysters on the half shell, cucumber granite (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=192&select=su0wJ3dlLvMxo2vkM92_7w). Bison tenderloin, brioche, horseradish, nasturtium (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=192&select=SAOmEF89-qCErokMR-l0lg). Bonus course Local black cod, okinawa sweet potato, chanterelles, shellfish emulsion (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=192&select=s1IaShShT6IAJiQUztkUtg). In addition to this, we received Parker house rolls during the meal (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=192&select=quZoH0f8JnFK5xS4f_xeDQ), macarons after dessert (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=168&select=ZzDIdesx1I28aJv9O7kxXQ), and a gift bag to take home (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=L6WkfHFISvU1tR2fmh65lw). Foodwise, everything was delicious with my two favorites being the local black cod, the Hokkaido scallops, and the chocolate delice. The menu changes by what local produce, seafood, and meats are available during that particular season. The dining room was not very crowded but filled as we ate. Service and atmosphere are consistent with fine dining restaurants in SF, likely even better since they are not emphasizing turning tables. Big thanks to Rachel for guiding us through our meal and thank you to my generous chef friend Michael for crafting our meal. It is a must dine here meal whenever I'm in town.
