    Hubby loving the pizza

Pizza can be many things. Sometimes, a pizza is something to grab from Domino's and eat in front of the couch watching the game. Sometimes, a pizza is something you grab from the frozen section of the grocery store and throw in the oven. Sometimes, pizza is something you get delivered and it's OK, not the best, but it'll do the job for the night. But tonight...tonight, at Heirloom Pizza, pizza became elevated to something more. We built our own pizza. Delectable cornmeal thin crust topped with meatball, slivered red pepper, roasted melty cloves of garlic, and thinly sliced potatoes. All of the toppings harmonized to become not just a pizza, but a gourmet experience. Elizabeth was our server, and she was as sweet as could be. Ambience was casual yet upscale, family oriented, yet elegant. A truly enjoyable evening and the best pizza I've had in years.

    Deep dish pizza

My husband was craving some deep dish pizza and per good reviews we went ahead and tried it. The deep dish heirloom pizza was delicious. The crust was crispy and flaky and not greasy. All the ingredients tasted really fresh. Highly recommend! We will be back.

I was impressed with this place. Disclaimer...I am not a connoisseur of Deep Dish pizza and this probably does not top the Chicago restaurants, but it isn't trying to. This is a place that is combining California's fresh ingredients with a deep dish style. I ordered a split Sweet/Spicy Pepperoni and the Heirloom. It was an explosion of flavor. The Heirloom comes with bleu cheese, bacon, and sautéed vegetables while the sweet/spicy comes with jalapeños, pineapple, and pepperoni. The staff were very accommodating and sweet. I loved the location as well since it is not located in the busy downtown but rather in a quiet neighborhood. Definitely worth a visit. I will be back!

Had the heirloom deep dish pizza for $30. It was delicious with plenty of fresh ingredients. Staff were a bit on the slow side and we had to wait for almost 20 minutes for our pizza on a slow night. Pizza was also a bit on the cold side. It was a Monday night and there were only 2 other groups dining and both already had their pizza when I placed my order. Plenty of seating but parking is limited.

Monterey has Monterey Deep Dish, in the BEST way possible! Located a little off the beaten path, is Heirloom Pizza. When you enter you're greeted and taken to a seat in a modern pizza restaurant. We ordered the deep dish, of course. To be warned, it does take 30mins, but no biggie for us! It's well worth the wait. This fresh, cheesy, deep dish really puts a FRESH take on it. The crust is crumbly and gritty(cornmeal on the bottom). The Sauce is a huge blast of garden tomatoes, literally tastes like you just picked it and get that good earthy taste. The Parmesan on adds that wonderful salty, aged depth to the stringy, fresh mozzarella! Then the Fresh Basil cuts through all of it with the Fresh, Minty, Garden , Earthy, BLAST! The service was great and they were extremely friendly! *Would've liked the mozzarella could've been a little more heavy handed*

Deep-dish pizza, we've driven by a couple times and made it a point to come here. We wanted our kids to try deep-dish and only our oldest has had it a long time ago at Patxis. We came around 5:30 to avoid the crowds and were seated immediately, this is deep-dish so it takes about 45 minutes to eat cook after you place your order and we saw most tables getting a salad or appetizer but we opted for only pizza. I particularly loved their blend of tomato sauce, it had nice chunks in it and was an appealing vibrant red color. The crust was OK, it want that expected flaky and airy bite but it was a bit hard, especially the outer edge that touches the pan. Heirloom Pizza: spinach, bacon, mushrooms, onions, fresh garlic, ricotta, gorgonzola. Their signature, unfortunately for us the Gorgonzola was quite heavy handed and overpowering. This one the kids ate small pieces of but my wife and I ate the most, our breath suffered later for it. We were thinking of subbing in mozzarella but figured they had worked the ratios and tweaked the Gorgonzola to be perfect but it was still too strong for us. New Original: sausage, onions, mushrooms, red bells. This one the whole family loved and every slice was eaten. Would repeat and I would say if the crust was better it would be competitive in Chicago. By the time our pizza came it was fully packed and we ran out of water, we asked for a new bottle and it never came. It also took quite some time to get our servers attention so we could pay get the check, and it took long again for them to come back with our credit card.

The server that seated me and took my order was very kind, polite, and attentive. She allowed me to sit at the bar while I waited for my to go pizza order. For a small pizza place it is quiet, clean, and has a welcoming atmosphere. I ordered the arugalala with no mushrooms. The pizza was amazing, hot, fresh, and the small is large enough that I will have 3 full meals of it. Beautiful spot, would highly recommend to anyone in the area.

My new favorite place to eat in Monterey! Our family went to Heirloom Pizza for the first time. When you think of deep dish pizza DONT think of this HP. They've created one of the best crusts you can have for pizza! Not thick and heavy, rather crisp and slightly crunchy. It sufficient to say whatever you order you're going to love it...why? BC everything was fresh and delicious! Our favorite is The New Original...AMAZING! Easy parking. Just know that the deep dish takes about 30 minutes to cook. Have the arugula salad while you wait!! Also excellent!

Heirloom Pizza is a cute little spot located close to downtown Monterey. We were greeting and even let in a couple minutes before they opened. We were seated and ordered quickly. They have both indoor and out door seating. Our waitress was great! We ordered two deep dish pizzas. She informed us that it would take 30-40 mins due to it being deep dish. That is pretty standard. Before we knew it they were ready. I ordered a pepperoni and sausage small deep dish. Everything tastes very fresh. The crust was different. I haven't had deep dish pizza with a crust like this one before. You could really taste the cornmeal. I really enjoyed the crust. The sausage had a little bit of heat, which I really enjoyed. The pizza was very light. It wasn't too heavy like many deep dish pizzas are. I will be back! If you are in Monterey and want pizza, this is the place!

Proof is in the pizza!!!! Seee??? Eat their pizza, perform at your best level!

Don't go late. Go before they open. Line up and get your table. Then order (remember, first order gets made first. If you want to start eating around 5:45 ish then get there like we did. We got the thin crust Napoli. He had it last visit and loved it again. I always know when to give 5 stars - it's when he closes his eyes in gustatory ecstasy and enjoys the flavors. He made happy moaning sounds. We are talking about pizza that is so good that it sounds naughty when he eats. I'm satisfied. That was the result I had hoped for. He ran in the Monterey Half Marathon the next day and placed in the top quarter of his age bracket 1:54:59! We think maybe the pizza helped. Some pizza is famous for birthing babies, this pizza should be famous for generating personal bests the next day!!!!!! Thanks Heirloom Pizza!!!!!

I hate leaving reviews under 3 stars, but unfortunately I can't justify giving anything more than 2. First, we were quoted wait time 30 minutes, but it took over an hour to get seated. We got there at 530 before the full rush, but I guess finding a table for a group of 6 was harder in a small restaurant. After finally getting seated and ordering (another 10 minutes), it took 40 minutes just to get 2 appetizers. Finally after almost an hour after being sat, we got our pizza, which was ok but I wasn't that impressed. The flavors were good but the crust was mediocre at best. The thin crust pizza was really crunchy, I prefer a softer and chewier dough. For the deep dish, the crust was also on the crunchy and dry side and wasn't buttery and flaky like a Chicago style deep dish should be. The line and wait made us think the place would be amazing and worth the wait, but considering it took 2.5 hours from putting our name down to finishing, I am pretty disappointed. Maybe it was an off night and they were extra busy because of all the people in town for the half marathon race, but I expected much better for a place with the high reviews and how busy it was.

this is the "small" meant to feed 2-3 people.

I went to get pizza here with my grandmother and my dad after a night out a few nights ago. Staff were very kind getting my grandmother and us a nice table quickly. I ordered a rootbeer and customized my own small (2-3 people) thin crust with pepperoni, Kalamata, and sausage. My dad got something with pineapple and sausage(I forgot the rest but it was meant to be spicy and sweet) and my grandmother got something with pear and bacon. My rootbeer was a brand I'd never had before and it was tasty. Everyone liked our pizza, my grandmother said hers was similar to one that she had in SF with the same type of profile. She actually kept talking about it after we had left about how great it was and how it was one of the best pizzas she'd ever had. And in her lifetime she has been a lot of different places, including internationally. I thought mine had excellent flavor. A small is for 2-3 people but I personally felt like mine was very filling and was able to take some back to where we stayed and have it for lunch the day after. The small does not feel like you're getting ripped off. A lot of people say this is the best pizza in the area and while I'm not local and can't speak to other pizza spots nearby, this set an extremely high bar.

This is the half vegetarian and half chicken. Sorry, I don't have a picture of the meat & Jalapeno one.

Gusto is one of the few truly scratch-made Italian restaurants that specializes not only in pizza, pasta, and sauces, but also features an old-school brick, wood-fired pizza oven. Hell, they even make their own mozzarella! They have not only caught the eye of locals and Yelpers, but have also managed to earn a recommendation in the current Michelin Guide. The Good: * Private parking lot, as well as street parking. * Fabulous service from Alex! * Prices are very reasonable considering the food quality. * Local beers on tap. * Strawberry Prosciutto Salad (seasonal special) was fantastic! Who knew strawberries paired so perfectly with salty, cured prosciutto and pistachios? This might not be on the menu all the time, but if you see it, get it! * Complimentary focaccia was unbelievably soft and delicious. As if it couldn't get any better, their olive tapenade served alongside it was equally delicious, making for an unbeatable duo. * The Margherita pizza is the ultimate test of a pizza restaurant--and they passed with flying colors! It's so simple that if something isn't right, it'll be easy to spot, but everything from the homemade mozz to the slightly charred crust and the delicious sauce made this the perfect pie. I give it a score of 3.14159265359...! The Meh: * Meatballs were a touch too tough and could've been a bit more tender. They were still fuçking delicious, so honestly, who cares? The Ugly: * Despite the name, Seaside isn't the most glorious place, and this location is downright sus AF. Conclusion: Maybe one of the best meals so far of 2026. If you have any doubts about coming here, relieve yourself of them and get down here posthaste.

I've never been big on chicken on pizza, but this completely changed my mind. The garlic flavor was subtle (which I appreciated since garlic can easily overpower a dish), and the creamy white sauce paired perfectly with the toppings. I'm usually not a huge white sauce fan either, but it worked beautifully here. The bacon was generous and evenly distributed throughout, adding the perfect savory touch. The crust was on the thinner side, crispy, and not greasy at all, which made every bite even better. Moving on to the Margherita Pizza, a classic and my personal must order at any pizza spot. This one did not disappoint. Fresh basil, tomatoes, olive oil, and garlic all came together perfectly. Again, I appreciated the subtle garlic flavor that enhanced rather than overwhelmed the pizza. Like the Chicken Supreme, the crust was thin, nicely crisped, and not oily or greasy. Clean flavors done right. Honestly, I can't pick a favorite because both pizzas were unique in their own way and equally satisfying. Service was great, the staff was attentive and very friendly throughout our visit. The ambiance felt a little questionable at first, but it's just a smaller establishment with a cozy vibe. They had the Olympics playing, which actually made the experience more fun and entertaining. Overall, a great spot I'd definitely return to!

We were so hungry that we forgot to take photos (rookie mistake, I know), but the pizza was phenomenal. We ordered: Classic Pepperoni: Perfectly greasy and crisp. BBQ Chicken: Great tangy sauce-to-topping ratio. Curry Chicken: The standout! Super flavorful and a nice twist on traditional pizza. They do not skimp on toppings which was great. It took about 30 minutes to get our food. Honestly, for a small family shop where they're making things fresh, that's not bad at all. If you're in a massive rush, be mindful, but the quality is well worth the half-hour wait. Bottom line: Support this local business! There is informal, in-door seating but it looks more like a take out place, though the prices are more high end. The reason for my three star is that the pizza ultimately was bland and most importantly the crust was undercooked. It's a pretty thick crust and ours was doughy; I had to recook to make it more firm. There wasn't much sauce and it had no flavor. The toppings seemed fresh and it is possible their Eastern pizzas are more flavorful, so if you are looking for that you should give it a try. But if you want a more traditional Italian or 'West' pizza, there are better options.

The largest offense here was the behavior of your employee and that is the one thing you have failed to address. There are solutions to the problems you were having - one is as simple as writing a note on your door, letting your customers know that you've chosen to close early that day. Another is refusing to do business with a third-party who is making matters worse rather than better for your business. But the most important thing here is having the care And attention that is required to not hire people capable of being so rude to your customers. Your employee did not make that offer of a pizza until we pointed out that he could have done something better to address the situation rather than giving mouth. But the point here is, we did not want pizza at that time. We wanted the night before when we were in a jam, and by that point, our trust in the food at your store was completely shattered. Because if a person makes a decision to hire someone that is so rude to customers, they may also make the decision to hire a cook who spits in your food. And anyone who fails to understand or address the unacceptable behavior of their employees when it is necessary is indeed a one star establishment. This is an update: A person from Pizza My Way called me a day after I posted my original 1-star review. She was friendly and helpful, and ultimately refunded the $40. I appreciated that. So I brought my review up to 3 stars. However, the situation was seriously unacceptable. Businesses have a responsibility to hire people who are going to treat customers with respect and who are capable of responding to problems created by decisions of the restaurant and their policies. This was a stressful experience and my wife and I walked away feeling very disrespected and initially $40 poorer with no pizza and no solution. The young person working for them has no business treating customers who pay a whopping $40 for a pizza that way- and his behavior being tolerated makes it impossible for me to give the restaurant another chance - so I cannot give an honest review of their food only their service. Maybe if someday I get a call that they have let said employee go they can regain my trust and I'll give them a try because their right up the street, and perhaps I can become a regular customer since I'm so close and they can get a higher rating from me. Originally posted 5/15: Worst pizza experience on the Monterey Peninsula by far. The place just randomly closes on a Saturday night well before their posted closing time. I order for pick up, spend over $40 for one large pizza which is absolutely crazy. I mean other people might think that's normal but I think that's crazy. That doesn't matter. I was in a jam and I had to get my kids some food and was not able to get back home and cook because of an emergency at work. In any case, I pay for the pizza online and then I called to confirm and there's no answer. I call multiple times. I show up to the store in person at around 8:35, 25 minutes before they are supposed to take their last order, and the whole place is dark. The next day, I am assured by the person I speak to on the phone that I will be refunded. Later on that day, I double checked to make sure that's true and it looks like they withdrawn the money from my bank account. So I called back and the person I speak to on the phone refuses to give me their name, they take absolutely no accountability for the situation, and offer absolutely no solution. So I spent $40 on pizza I never received, I was completely unable to get the attention of the manager, and my wife, and I both had to endure rudeness, extreme rudeness from their staff. When I walked in to restate my reasonable request to no avail, the person on staff was recording me on his phone. I don't get it. I'm the customer and I've already spent money and I still haven't received any product from them. It's nothing personal. When you're closing well before you posted hours on a weekend night, when you've got some cockamamie ordering system that you've built into your website, when you can't be accountable to your customers that spend money or even polite, you deserve the bad reputation that follows.
