The food was spectacular!! My girlfriend and I came in on a Monday and we were easily seated, the food came out and was amazing we came back the next day. Their chicken ceaser salad was great tasted fresh and light, the spaghetti marinara tasted well cooked pasta and a rich flavor coming from the sauce. The ambiance is great a classic Italian place with music. Very familial. Service was lovely here, Diane was very amazing she was kind and sweet and basically ran the resturant without ever faltering service. Kudos to her!! read more

We came by during off hours and this place was mostly empty. Lots of seating though, for when they are busy. Service was fast and the personal (mini) pizza was a good portion size for the price, definitely could split it into 2 meals, but price probably also driven up by its location in this boutique-ish plaza. They provided complimentary bread for the table. Menu was pretty large, including pasta and paninis, in additional to pizza options. The breading was a tad too much on the pizza for me, but the flavors were good, no complaints (and accurately reflected the description). Staff was friendly and patient, though a bit harder to flag down for the check. Plaza has its own parking lot though the traffic pattern is a bit confusing (weird entrance paths) so be careful when driving. read more

Cute restaurant that's about it. Service was bad with an empty restaurant. Asked for water 3 times before we got it which was after we received our food. We only came for calamari. Don't waste your time or taste buds. Soggy, old, smelt bad a not as described on the menu. Genuinely the most disgusting calamari I have ever had. Response to owner: Server removed it after he went to drop the check and realized we had not touched it. Maybe if he had checked on us while dining he would have known our distaste and not put it in the original bill. The menu actually calls them calamari curls not fingers. Not sure what menu you pulled that name from but the one online and in restaurant says curls. Curls are similar to rings, which we were expecting. And previous photo reviews do not match what we received. I shared this review to let people know NOT TO TRY THE CALAMARI. I think that is obvious. read more

Allegro pizza is something of an institution in Carmel. The food and service are always excellent, and they've maintained a loyal following in Carmel, nourishing and delighting not just tourists, but local families as well for several decades. I used to go a lot more when our kids were younger, as it was one of our family favorites. I recently went back and tried a variety of menu items (pastas and salads, not just the pizzas I was familiar with), and it more than holds up. The food was delicious, and reminded me of why I used to take the family there pretty regularly. We arrived a little early and were prepared to wait, but the host kindly seated us and allowed us to order before their official opening time, which was greatly appreciated. Came for pizza everything looked great but there was a table of SCREAMING kids we had to leave before we even ordered . We were the 2nd couple that left in the short time we were there. Pizza is super stuffed. The free bread they give you is super tasty but the texture seems a bit stale. But something about the taste and texture of everything is justtt a bit off from fresh. The lasagna was so cheesy but almost tasted like freezer burnt taste? And the pizza was just slightly too hard and seemed like it had been reheated a few times. The ranch was not good either. It is what it is. I knew I had a Saturday lunch planned here and messaged the business earlier in the week to ask about vegan cheese and vegan options. No response. We were sat and service was good. I used my Yelp Check In for a free pint of beer and both of my choices were not available. While it's true that Allegro offers Follow Your Heart vegan cheese, the server says that their crust is not vegan. Disclaimer - I've eaten a lot of non-vegan pizzas and a lot of vegan pizzas. Classic pizza dough is made with just flour, water, salt, and yeast. Some versions add olive oil. This creates a chewy texture, but needs a long slow rise to develop flavor but Allegro adds milk. I appreciate the server being straightforward with me so I ordered the Bruchetta Pomodore This is from Allegro's website BRUCHETTA POMODORO 11.95 tomato, olives, garlic, basil There's no mention of cheese When the Bruchetta plates arrived they all had cheese on top. The server gave us the additional Bruchetta and had another one made for me with no cheese. The other plates were presented nicely as to their favor profile, I can't comment but the other diners seem to have had a delicious experience. To the team at Allegro's. I appreciate trying to accommodate plant based and vegan customers but either do it right and transparently or don't do it at all. Being a graduate of CHS, working in the restaurant business in Carmel, and now being a vegan for the past 6 years, I wholeheartedly am willing to help you and your team craft some truly vegan options for vegan diners. The service was really great. My friend and I got greeted right away and treated nicely the whole time we were there. The food itself was okay. My friend and I shared a pizza half Margherita and half bbq chicken I think. Got a good amount of food but was a bit pricy. The water also tasted kinda strange. I tried this place for a quick slice. We arrived around 1 pm on. Saturday and it was pretty empty. The gentlemen's was nice and the restaurant had a nice rustic feel. Unfortunately, this is not best place for a pizza. First, it was $11 for a pepperoni slice. About twice as much as what I would pay for what I got. The crust was perfectly crooked, but really lacked flavor. Very in developed and lacked any good chew that is normal for a properly fermented dough. The sauce was lovely, and slightly sweetened. Pre-purchased tickets for a Poodle Days event here. It was painfully obvious that they oversold the event as guests did not have space to sit and were forced to overflow into the space surrounding the hole in the wall restaurant. Patrons were forced to pour out their wine and beer by a little guy who was apparently the pizzeria's manager who was afraid of losing his liquor permit. He was the same guy who pushed the overflow crowd into non-restaurant areas. I gave two stars to the poor girls who had to repeatedly apologize for the lack of pizza being ready while 50 people waited in line to eat for 30 minutes or more. The food was very disappointing for the price we paid. NEVER AGAIN will I visit this catastrophic pizzeria. read more

I recently hosted my sons rehearsal dinner at Allegro's and I can't begin to say how wonderful and accommodating Jeano was. I live in Chicago so I was pretty much walking in blind. Let me just say that every single thing was wonderful. The food is great, the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. They thought of ever possible thing that we could have possibly needed including pizza making for the kids who loved it. Seriously, don't think twice about Allegro's. Dear Jean O., I don't often write like this but somehow felt compelled to do so this particular night. I could just write this review as I usually do (objectively blunt based on a deep understanding of food as well as the industry) but something really stood out to me that made me do otherwise. I sense an *elitist* and a deep believer of doing the right thing. How? I'm sure I fall off the same tree. It's rare but it happens; and when it does, there is a particular bias to how I write my thoughts into a review. I think what triggered this letter is sitting outside with a little child who wanted a pizza (obsessed and possessed he is by the dough and cheese). Sitting there, acting like it's another zoom class practicing "repeat after me" and "wait your turn", I overheard two ladies walk by complaining how pizza could be $30 and how they should have gone elsewhere. I was appalled in the moment. It's F**KING Carmel and of all places, the Barnyard. $30? That's like tipping fifty cents. But that said, dear Mr. Jean O., I see your frustration with the stupid reviews of your establishment. We for one...asked stupid questions. We were driving with a crazy little 4 yr old demanding bloody attention but your staff put up with it (with giggles in between). She ran and honored our gift certificate, made sure we had what we needed/wanted, and kept the whole process simple when asking if we would tip the kitchen. (As one in the kitchen, that is an obvious YES!). But here is the thing that should matter. At least to you. I noticed the difference in the dough and the way the texture was as I bit into it. It caught me off guard at first but it's my time with manipulating gluten for hand pulled noodles that made me appreciate it even more. It is exactly a wonderful bite that is the perfect template for whatever ingredients it carries. Now that is a rare occasion. Now while I didn't like the bbq chicken portion of the pizza (I hate the mainstream bbq sauce) that I obviously ordered for the SO, I loved the Thai pie awesomeness with the sweet chili sauce that made me rethink what it is to make a pie. Seriously, that was so awesome I'd give you a kiss without having ever met you. Anyways, please continue doing you and render those hating fools who know little about your cause to dust. I knew we'd need dinner for later so we sat at an outdoor table at Allegro and ordered a large pepperoni pizza ($28.75) to-go. I asked the waitress to bring just one plate because my 13-year old would probably want one slice. Cut to 30 minutes later and he has eaten FOUR. It was that good. I went and got pizza after my husband ran the Marathon. He would not walk at all, to be expected. Ordered online, quickly made. Went to pick it up at the window, cashier was friendly and gave us all the utensils bc we were at a hotel. We got the meat lover pizza, Mediterranean salad and a cannoli. Meat lovers pizza 10" was perfect size, not too big, a little salty. The mediterranean salad was big, chicken was a little dry but lots of veggies and sauce on the side was great. They even put olives on the side when I requested. The cannoli was good, maybe too much chocolate sauce but it was going to be messy to eat either way. Maybe try to dine in next time. I visit Allegro Pizzeria every time I visit my parents who live in the Monterey area, and I keep forgetting to write a review, but today is the day! I can't eat gluten, and they have the BEST gluten free pizza I've ever had. I usually order to-go and enjoy it at a nearby beach. Even with to-go orders, the staff is always amazing and friendly. We enjoyed lunch here after our friend ran the Big Sur Marathon. We parked in the area and this was walking distance, so an easy pick. We had a short wait and they were very accommodating and made sure our friend had a large quantity of water and was comfortable... or at least as comfortable as one can be after running a marathon. They let us grab a larger table than necessary, so she had room to put her feet up. They partner with their neighbor, Carmel Craft Brewing Company, for some of their beer options and also offer other local beers and wine. I am so thrilled like you have no idea, I don't even know how to start this review since I am very excited to eat original Italian pizza, this place it's a walk away from our hotel. The moment we walked in we were greeted with those smiles that unfortunately some places no longer offer for some unknown reason, it was worth the wait. Oh!! My!!! How do I explain this, this pizza was made by God's hand, the pizza itself was exceptionally delicious the texture, all fresh ingredients. Let me tell you something I have very picky eaters and my girls devour the pizza, I love the quietness of the place made me feel like I was at home, we were left with a great impression that we went back the next day to try other pizza options. If you ever in this area I suggest you visit this place, the way this place is set up, you can take a walk afterwards looks like a small town shopping center just so so cute, words cannot describe, you have to take some time off and visit this amazing place. We've wanted to try Allegro Pizzeria for some time and finally got our opportunity this past Sunday. We got there about noon and were greeted and seated by Elyse (I hope I spelled her name right). All seating is out on the patio right now, but if you come when it's cooler there are plenty of heaters. Lucky for us it was a beautiful day! Elyse quickly took our drink order while we perused the menu. Of course we had to try the pizza - they come in 10, 12, 14 and 16 inch sizes. We opted for the 12 inch meat lovers. I am a sucker for a good Caesar salad so of course we had to give that a try. Elyse brought us some complimentary Focaccia as well. All that and a glass (or two) of Toscana made for the perfect lunch before heading out to the valley. Let me start by saying it got fairly busy quickly and Elyse was the only server. She handled all of us like a true pro and even had time to make a bit of small talk. She did a fabulous job taking care of us and making sure we had the perfect lunch experience! The food was delicious! I had an idea after taking my first bite of focaccia that we were in for a treat. The pizza was served hot with plenty of fresh toppings. The meat lovers had Italian sausage, ham, pepperoni, salami and meatball along with a fresh tomato sauce and cheese. The crust was just the right thickness to hold up to all the toppings and it was not the least bit greasy even with all the meats. Judging by the flavor, Allegro is using top notch ingredients. The Caesar was delicious as well. Crisp romaine, house made dressing, slices of red onion and a couple of briny olives made for one of the best Caesar salads I have had. We left happy and full. Our only disappointment was not getting a chance to meet the proprietor, Jeano. We have loved reading some of his responses to the less than stellar reviews and it's obvious he remembers his customers, good and bad. The customer is not always right, and it's nice to see someone who will stand up for his employees and business. We will definitely be back to enjoy another meal. Oh wow.... This pizza is pretty terrible. The Margherita pizza was basically just cheese bread..., crust had zero crisp and the tomatoes are just regular tomatoes... I mean damn... show me you care not one bit about your food without telling me... Oie. Was this made out of a regular oven? I feel bad because I would have loved to have had a quality pizza in a beautiful town but guess I'll find that elsewhere next time. Hah have to respond to the owner. Hilarious. Your cook then should be trained. It's not even the price I'm concerned about. You're in Carmel, not cheap to operate there.
