We came to islands on a Sunday evening around 5:30pm. We had 4 adults (my husband, our two daughters- late teen/early 20's and our two toddlers) and we were seated right away. The waitress, McKenzie came over shortly after and took our drink order. We were off to a good start. We got our drinks right away, she took our order- two kids meals, a salad, a burger, tacos and a side of tempura green beans and onion rings. About 10 minutes later, McKenzie comes back to let us know that they ran out of Mac and cheese for the kids (how, I don't know but okay) and I said okay thanks. And she said "so do you want something else or not?" Umm what? I said no thank you because my toddler wouldn't have eaten anything else off the menu. Then the rest of the food comes out. The side of onion rings was quite sad- 5 rings total for $4? Quite ridiculous in my opinion, but all the breading was off and soggy and looks disgusting. My husband takes a bite of his tacos and the flour tortilla is cold and hard like it had been sitting there. McKenzie comes back and we calmly and politely let her know about her onion rings and tacos and she says "well that's how the onions rings are" and takes the basket. The manager came over shortly after and apologized and offered to get a fresh set of onion rings and tacos. When those came out, they were much better. The waitress never came back to the table after this, and we had to flag down hostesses and runners to get basic things, like napkins, utensils and refills. We saw McKenzie multiple times pass our table but she never made eye contact. She helped the table next to us and one of our daughters said "excuse me" to ask for more water and McKenzie rolled her eyes at her and kept walking! We were in the booth right next to the kitchen and for the next 5-10 minutes, we heard McKenzie talking about our table, was telling other waiters and hostesses we were being difficult, and kept staring at our daughter. It got so bad that she asked to go to the car because she was uncomfortable! The fact that a customer was that uncomfortable because of the attitude of a waitress is completely unacceptable. When McKenzie finally decided to come back to the table once we were done eating, she came to bring the check and I asked to speak to the manager. She throws the check down, rolls her eyes and pivots to go towards the back. We hear her shout- "hey that table wants to talk to you AGAIN! I guess they can't stop complaining". The manager immediately comes over, I let him know we could hear everything she said, how uncomfortable our daughter was, everything she did with the other employees and what an unpleasant experience it was. The ONLY reason this review is getting 2 stars is because the manager was amazing. He was apologetic, sincere and appalled at his staff members actions. I didn't get his name, but he was a Hispanic man. He didn't seem surprised at all by her actions and ended up comping our whole meal. McKenzie should not be working in customer service, but thank you to the manager for listening to our concerns and doing something about it. read more

First time trying out Islands. My server was Andrew and he was very attentive and excellent. I got the Maui burger and it was cooked medium rare. In terms of the taste, I was not very satisfied. It had a extremely pepper heavy taste and I didn't enjoy that. The fries I received were endless and crisp. Overall the service was great, I could definitely see myself coming back in the future. Haven't been here in about a year but I was craving their chicken sandwich. Place hasn't changed much, except it is more bar scene now more than anything with lots of craft beers and signature drinks. While we don't drink, it was great as their food prices were reasonably priced. We had dinner for 2 for $25...can't beat that. Just when my wife and I almost lost faith in going out to eat, we were reminded at this location that customer service and the quality of food was not lost here. Within seconds of walking through the door we were greeted with smiles and a welcome. When we sat down we got our drinks ASAP try the mango Rita and a beer on tap because there beers are so frosty and delicious. Thank you staff for such incredibly wonderful food. I love their sweet flavor of Hawaiian burger and the pineapples in it. The burger is pretty big so it is filling with one burger. I like soup and the only option they have is tortilla soup. It is pretty salty, but you can get refills, which is nice. read more

Seeing as this is the closest franchise location to my house, it is inevitable that I would find myself reviewing this restaurant on yelp! It has become a sort of mini tradition to head to this place when my wife and I arrive back in California from University. I've come here several times, with the last being about a week ago, so this will serve as more of a kind of cumulative review for this location. What "Islands" comes down to, at least for my wife and I, are the burgers. And what delicious and savory burgers they serve up here. My personal favorite, while simple, is the "Big Wave with Cheese" on wheat. The meat itself is always cooked to my liking (medium) and the burgers come out nice and hot. Even on days when I've found myself craving a vegetarian burger the flavors still come together nicely, and it has a distinctive burger "taste" that differentiates itself from other lesser franchises (Red Robin, Chilis, etc). Even though I did say I mostly come for the quality of the burgers, I do enjoy their fries as well (both sweet potato and regular versions). Their standard french fries are probably one of my favorites from any franchise and they go perfectly with the burgers that are served up. I've also had the opportunity to sample some appetizer options from them, both the buffalo wings and quesidilla options. Both of these starters are great, and if you're up for a good amount of food I'd recommend getting either. As for this particular location in Fullerton I do really enjoy its position in the shopping center, and the service is always consistently great. All in all, I'd say if you're up for a great burger and unique franchise experience that is not easily rivaled in the quality department, go to Islands! Any location will do, but this one holds a special place in my dinner outings. read more

Short wait time even during Covid, opted for indoor seating and maybe waited 10 mins. We got sat in the bar which is nice, table top dining with tv views (perks for my partner). we ordered chips and salsa, which was okay, and I ordered a sunset margarita and my partner a hanger 24 beer. My margarita was delicious! Honestly the best I've had out in awhile, was a little pricey at 12 something but was really good. My partners beer came in a frozen mug which is awesome. Ordered Kilauea burger and Maui burger, offered if we wanted one basket of fries or two, we opted for two. Fries came out hot n fresh, my burger was good but my partners was v pink on the inside when they ordered medium well, but overall good tasting burgers. Afterwards I was stuffed but felt a little greasy. 4 out of 5 stars for good ambiance, decent service and pretty good food (during Covid times esp). We love Islands happy hour and are regulars. So happy to see they are handling the post quarantine well. Every other table is closed for social distancing. They throughly clean each table/seats with santizer and paper towels. They have QR codes on the tables so you can pull up the menu with your phone. They ask that each guest wear their masks while walking through the restaurant and common areas. read more

It had been quite a while since the family went to Islands. The food was good. I thought it was strange that the server brought one basket of fries for two burgers and a chicken sandwich. I figured she just brought one and would get more, no big deal. However, it was a while before she checked back. When she did I asked her for two more baskets. She was gone for a long time. This Restaurant is probably my favorite to eat in the city of Fullerton. Everything is fresh. And never really had a problem with my order not being correct. Food comes out of the kitchen Hot, Fresh, and Quick. And the TVs all over the restaurant are awesome. So you never miss a game. read more

My family and I have ordered food to go from this place often before the lockdown and never had a problem but we've tried twice now in the last two weeks and have had very poor outcomes. The first time we ordered two china coast salads and a burger with a side of coleslaw. When we got home we discovered that both sesame dressings were not in the bag so I had to drive all the way back just to get the dressing and to add salt to the wound, the person who brought out the dressings was not even apologetic. Then, to make sure our order was a complete disaster, the side of coleslaw with the burger was warm and mushy (eww, no thanks). That brings us to last night's order. We once again ordered two china coast salads, the Hawaiian burger, and the Moa Kai (tuna) sandwich. This time Islands managed to screw up the ENTIRE order! One of the salads did not include the mandarin oranges (one of the main ingredients), the Hawaiian burger DID NOT have any teriyaki sauce (THE MAIN INGREDIENT) for the burger, and then to top off the perfect meal the Moa Kai sandwich barely had two tablespoons of tuna on it which unless I'm mistaken is the ENTIRE SUBSTANCE of the so-called sandwich!!! WHAT AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE FOR $54.00!!!!!! Needless to say, we will no longer dine from/at this establishment again and will STRONGLY encourage our family and friends to do the same. They have a wonderful tortilla soup. Their fajitas are filled with grilled vegetables and they have awesome fish tacos. They also serve burgers and have delicious salsa and chips for an appetizer. Their root beer floats are great when it's summer. Their fries are a little too salty for my taste but it's worth it for their food. I love the ambiance as well. The whole inside makes it feel like you're on a tropical island. The surfer videos help make it complete as you see and ocean while you wait for you table when they're busy and the staff all wear tropical t-shirts as their uniform. With the more extensive selections of smaller up and coming restaurants, a large chain like this doesn't completely fullfill the authentic eating experience as it used to for me back in the days. read more

A great place in terms of ambience as they do keep to their namesake pretty well, but if you look closer at their food, it's not really worth it. The quality of their meat sucks, you can totally taste the slight soggy/mushiness of when things are frozen then defrosted. I had the sliders (a new item on the menu?), and the buns were so drenched, injected, and re-drenched with butter that I had a hard time swallowing it all down. Fries were burnt and hard and over half of it was covered with the black burnt flakes that comes off the pans. There's just so many other wonderful burger specialty restaurants out there. For the price I'm paying here, I'd rather go to In-N-Out and get two meals for the price of this mediocre one. read more

Wow I thoroughly enjoyed my meal! Came for dinner with my boyfriend, and the food was amazing!!! The waitress was nice and got out order correct, and want pushy or intruding like some other waitresses. I got the chicken hoisin bowl with teriyaki, and I was supposed because it exceeded my expectations!!the chicken was juicy and the rice was cooked well. We always have a great experience when we eat in the Islands bar for Happy Hour. We enjoy watching Angels baseball here. It is a really nice atmosphere, not too loud. The service is fantastic! This Fullerton location has never impressed me. The wait staff is slow with drink refills and pushy to get the food out. I ordered a salad and The Wedge (BLT). The salad and sandwich came at the same time. :-( so I was then left with the choice, eat my salad or let my sandwich get cold. The BLT was wonderful but I was very upset with the timing. We ordered dessert and she dropped the check off before we were even served. This review is not my reflection of every Islands. I really enjoy the Brea and Huntington Beach locations. Really great burgers and sweet potato fries 90% of the time. I find when they are slow, the food quality drops a bit. When they are busy= delicious! I think the design of the restaurant inclines servers to stay in the kitchen area often, and they can't see if their tables need something from there. The work around for better service we have found is to eat in the bar area. Typically for me, bar service is slower most restaurants than the tables, but this Islands is the exception. read more

It's kind of crazy here when it's busy. My boyfriend and I were told it would be 5 minutes for us to get seated, we were seated after 15. Once seated, our drink orders were taken, and once we received our drinks, the same person who brought our drink orders asked if she could get us any appetizers, we said no but we were ready to order. Turns out, she's not even our waitress... weird... After we placed our orders, I got a wrap and bf got a burger, we proceeded to wait about 20 minutes for our food to come out. We weren't even told "sorry for the wait" or "the food is coming out shortly". Finally, after receiving our food, my wrap was cut into 2 and half of the wrap had like 2 pieces of chicken in it!
