Islands is great - it's a burger joint, but with a touch of class. Just a touch though - after all, it's tropical-themed, with strawlined everything (at least that's how it feels when you're sitting in the booth). I don't eat beef, but I have been perfectly satisfied by the veggie patty substitutes offered (for any burger you choose), and the chicken burgers are great, too. They put some nice stuff in between the buns - mushrooms, bacon, pineapple, teriyaki, and other good stuff (not all in one burger!). The burgers used to be huge; now they're not as big (and the ones they give at the Irvine location are downright *tiny*!). Islands' appetizers are the best thing about it, though - awesome cheese fries served on a big, hot plate. Delicious spinach artichoke dip. Desserts are great, too. Heck, all the food is damn good. Although its my first time to Islands (surprising for a Socal native), I feel like I have been here or some version of this casual dining chain restaurant. Its a TGIF type of experience but with Hawaiian shirts. Perhaps I am biased but I believe the perfect burger to be small-medium in size. I ordered the Big Wave Burger. I tried to remain objective as possible. Islands' burgers are your typical sit down restaurant size - large and somewhat cumbersome to eat. One never quite gets all the ingredients in one bite cleanly. One bite might be some meat and a bunch of bun. The next bite might be more sauce and veggies. I liked the texture of the burger. The wheat bun had a nice toast to it. The chopped lettuce and mustard were nice touches. For restaurant large patty style burgers, this place still beats an Applebees, Chili's, or TGIF. I would rank it in the 70th percentile of all burgers I've consumed. Not bad, but it doesn't quite make the 4 star rating IMO. And I would choose Red Robin 10 out of 10 times within this restaurant class. read more

I had the tortilla soup.. always good.. and i tried the chicken burger in lettuce rather than bun and was very pleased with it!! I never even tried to ask to have it served that way... didn't know i could... major KUDOS on that!!! Green tea is my Fave!! Also had the sweet potato fries.... WOW best I've had in a long time!!! Skip the fries and ask for veggies fatty! I love Island's and I'm so happy I can get some broccoli and carrots with my Chicken sandwich. Fries are my favorite, of course, but I prefer the look of my ass without any extra lumps on it. I still get fries sometimes, but you just can't eat that shit too often, you know. Island's Kilauea burger is my favorite, but I only get that if someone is willing to share it with me. I'll eat the whole thing if you let me. I thought this place was pretty fun and had decent food. I like the island theme and for being in the middle of Fullerton area, it is a unique burger place to eat at, even if it is a chain. I went with their Maui burger and split an order of tortilla chips and guac with the party I was with. The burger was huge and a mess to eat but it sure was tasty. The chips and guac was also good too. Needless to say I left extremely full! I have been to the one in Ala Moana center in Honolulu and there isn't much difference between these two locations. Both have a tacky interior that is supposed to remind you of a tropical get away, but to menorah just looks tacky. While the interior wasn't that impressive the food wasn't much different. I had the burger which was a burger with BBQ sauce, onion strings, and the usual toppings. This burger came with unlimited fries which was nice but the food still wasn't worth the price. It costed $11 and the burger was just ok, but what can you really expect from this kind of restaurant. So while this restaurant was kind of a nice reminder of Hawaii (if only for the reason that they were playing surfing videos) it was way overpriced for an alright burger and fries. This place isn't nearly as good as five guys or in n out. And that means won't be back here in the near future for a burger and fries. read more

I came here on a whim since my fiancee works at the Old Navy by here. Normally, I'd go for a mushroom burger, but I decided to branch out and go for the Hula burger (turkey patty) with island reds on a white bun. Eventually I caved and ordered an Island brown ale as well. Normally, most people associate Islands with the bottomless fries, but this trip was all about the burger. I can't put my finger down on what exactly it was, but the combination I ordered treated me to one of the top 3 burgers I've ever had. EVER. The beer? Burgers and tacos and their fries which have less fat then ever because of their new oils...how can you go wrong?! I'm going to continue on about the fries if you don't mind...so they lower the fat content, make it healthier, and at the same time lower the price?! I'm in love...It also has the perfect mix of crunchy and fluffy fries for all the different taste pallets. I pick out the crunchy ones while my friend eats the fluff. And yes, it's true they don't kick people out at closing...my friend and I have stayed probably an hour past closing without realizing we were the last people in the restaurant and they never said one word or gave us one dirty look. My girlfriend and I went here a couple days ago. The host looked like she was on drugs. The server no where to be seen 15-20 minutes at a time. As far as the food is concerned. This is the first time I've been disappointed in coming here. Entrees: Kilauea (jalapeno and black pepper crusted burger) - This is the burger I ordered. When it came to my table it looked promising at first till I took a bite. All I could taste was the black pepper on my tongue for the rest of the night. I complained to the server about the burger. I was given a new one. But the manager didn't even come by to provide some type of compensation or customer service. WTF? The fish taco's are good. The burgers are juicy and pack some flavor BUT I'm a fan of Islands for one reason. They have the BEST onion rings!!! We've all had those rings that prematurely pull out of their shell. We've also had the greasy, nauseating ring that's been cooked at too low a temp for too long as well as being served the paper thin shelled onion ring with no crunch...BUT the Island's onion ring is both crispy and crunchy while the sweet onion inside bites off in a magical display of culinary bar food expertise. Cons: -3 *Not worth over $11. *The brownie dessert with vanilla ice cream on top of it tasted burnt. Last Thoughts: It's the type of place that you would go with a friend. The cost of the burger is not worth the money. It tastes like Five Guys to me. But, with the pricing & the quality of the burger, In-N-Out still cannot be beaten. Haven't been here in a long while, so I thought it might be a nice treat. I was wrong. Ordered a burger with bacon for which I paid extra. There were two very very thin pieces criss-crossing the burger giving almost no coverage. The onion rings numbered at four. Very disappointed. They did bring me more bacon and onion rings when I challenged them about the meager amounts provided, but should I have had to say anything at all at a place that specializes in burgers. The parking lot was big but there are a lot of businesses around so it can get packed during peak hours. I really like the decor of the restaurant. It makes me feel like I'm on vacation on a beachy island so it's relaxing. Our waitress was very nice and provided us with fast and friendly service. The burgers were really big and tasty here. Islands falls under my junk food scale, so the max stars would be at 4. Minus one star for the price of the food. The taste of the foods are great and the services is pretty good too. But I don't see myself coming in here once a month and spend around $10 for a burger plus drink. I guess this could be a cool place for a date, they serve drinks here. Yummmy. I know. It's basically another burger joint, but the burgers are pretty darn good. Also, you get unlimited helping to the fries that come with the burgers, sandwiches and wraps. You eat fries all night if you wanted to...and their fries are good. Apparently, this free refill of fries is new...how new, I don't know. I also got a pina colada that came in a big beer mug. It was nice a creamy...not very strong, but you can definitely taste that there was alcohol. I like the whole island theme...as I just recently went to Hawaii on vacation. I miss vacation..sniff. When I was still in high school my friends and I used to come to this Islands all the time. It was our spot for "gourmet" burgers lol. It's been 5 years, but I decided to take a walk down memory lane and stop by Islands for dinner. The place still had the same "California_Tropic" atmosphere, which I absolutely love. We got seated and glanced over the menu. I ordered the Maui Burger (mmm guacamole) on wheat medium well. It wasn't long before my order came out, and to my amazement there were french fries with my burger?! I wondered if she had mistaken my order for someone else because the Islands I remember didn't serve fries with their burgers. It threw me off, but it was a good surprise. Finally took a bite and it was just as I remembered it. Nice toasty bun, juicy patty, and guacamole!! It was delicious. I heard this place has happy hour or specials on Wednesday's though? Good service, OK food. I got the Pipeline, its a chilli Burger. Everyone else got Hawaiian Burger. It was very filling, but I'm not sure if the food quality was that great. The Hawaiian themed restaurant was awesome, but I think its really just another average Burger joint. read more

This was our first time to islands and unfortunately we were disappointed. The food was bland, the fries were hard as rocks, and my burger was basically inedible. Management took it off our bill because I was unhappy with it. They even offered a free dessert to make things better. Our waiter said he didn't want us to leave with a bad taste in our mouths.... and we definitely appreciate the awesome service... however I don't know if I'll ever crave Islands after this encounter. The staff was very friendly, and it is a very casual atmosphere.. the drink I had was a little too sweet for me, but I drank it. Maybe we'll try one in a different city next time? First time here. My server was Whitney. Got there for happy hour. Had an IPA and chips with salsa to start. I was surprised to see 2 salsas on the platter. I then ordered my dinner; sliders. I'm a big fan of White Castle burgers, these beat them. The soft buns, the thin patty's and chopped grilled onions and a dollop of ketchup. My new fav's! After being regular customers for years, we no longer go back to this location. The turkey burgers and chicken tacos are our favorites. And they have been fairly consistent for awhile. Their french fries were fine until fall of 2018, when the potato quality became terrible. I can understand a few "eyes" in the potatoes, but black spots throughout an entire basket of fries is unacceptable. And to have it happen several visits in a row, is even more disappointing. We even mentioned it to the management on a couple of occasions and we were told that they were working on it. We also noticed that instead of making sure the fries were consistent, they would always send out one plate/burger with the bits and ends of the potatoes, you know the kind you can't even pick up to dip in ketchup? We have just been to the Anaheim Hills location yesterday and they seem to have had the same potato quality issue! read more
