I am giving this place 5 stars because of the full service, the 1-1 attention, the pricing and the attitude of the shop. Bought my first "real" bike from this place. I checked every local shop around the Irvine/Newport/OC area...literally! because I wanted to buy from a shop that I could build a relationship with and count on service after the purchase. This shop was the only one that stood out. The others seemed bothered by questions, was wanting to sell me what I didn't need based on my objectives in riding and lost interest pretty quick because I wasn't ready to buy right there and now. Not this shop. They were more than happy to put in the time knowing my purchase wasn't going to happen that day. What they told me on my first visit, was the same as what they told me on my second visit and also the third. Without blinking, they were more than happy to allow me to test ride my selections. Prices were great! Seriously.. I checked gear prices at REI, Sports Chalet, etc...they're lower here than the big guys. Nice! Service was fantastic! Initial questions, test rides, bike service, warranty, after purchase service, bike fit. (not rushed or neglected!) Josh is the man! If you're a newbie to riding, he totally understands and will make you feel completely comfortable. (just tell him that you are...he gets it! ) I really liked the fact that he gave me options, explained the pro's and con's and allowed me to make the final call. Look, I don't know where people went wrong in the past, but I had a really positive experience with this shop each everytime I've been in. I would highly recommend you check these guys out. Had a flat tire the other day and being a girl I was totally confused trying to fix it myself of course. I came in and they fixed it in less than 10 mins and were super helpful and told me how I can prevent flat tires in the future better since I always seem to get them. When I visited, I wasn't expecting to find a awesome bike store. I actually went to this strip mall to go to Flame Broiler. The Flame Broiler here, BTW sucks with undercooked food and next to no seating. I stopped in as they said they sell Cannondale and I am looking for a Lefty enduro bike to compliment my downhill bike. You can tell this place is run by mountain bikers versus roadies, triathletes, hipsters, etc. as the vibe is chill, low pressure and non elitist. They have a limited selection, especially with accessories. However, if I do decide to spend $5k on a enduro bike, I would buy it here. That's the price of a new Korean car, isn't it? With that kinda spend, service is more important then price or stock. I would rather wait 3-4 days to get it in stock from these guys then get it right away at another shop with lesser service. This is the place to go to if you want a Cannondale. read more

I bought my bike there a few years ago. Their staff was knowledgeable & helpful then. New staff & new management & new bad attitude . Brought in my bike to replace 1 part. They say you have to replace 3 other parts, even though the 3 parts clearly don't need replacing. They can't fix anything any more & find ways to insult you into thinking parts are worn out so they can spend more money with them. read more

This place has a clean store and good location. However, I think this store is tailored more for the experienced biker. My mom went here to get her first road bike and I had the general feeling that they took advantage of her. They say that they give a custom bike fitting but since the fitting equipment was being used by another customer they used a bike trainer and made simple seat adjustments that took 2 minutes. I had to make more fine adjustments later after going home and taking a careful examination. Also, when my mom said she needed a different stem, they said they would order a different size and call us to replace it but they never did...I guess they just wanted the sell... Also, I don't think they like people touching the expensive bikes on the window display because the lady gave me a weird look like I wouldn't be able to afford it and an awkward "can I help you" after I had been in the shop touching other bikes for the past 20 minutes...I guess they will never get sold.. Great shop! My husband are getting back into mountain biking and have a lot of questions as so much has changed since we last rode. The two guys that work there (sorry I'm horrible with names) were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Excellent service! I came here to get my new bike assembled and tested properly and the guys did it perfectly. Came in today, just to browse for my first road bike, but had a wide selection of bikes that was what I desired in a first road bike. I was helped by one of the guys, who helped tune the bike to my height and specifications. They took the time to help fit the bike for me. They also threw in a deal for me as well, which convinced me to buy from this place. The manager was also very friendly. Purchased the bike, and will definitely come back for more. read more

I came to Irvine Bicycles on a Friday afternoon and was impressed by the selection and service at this establishment. The store was well lit and has many brands of bicycles available. Frank, the owner of the store, was very knowledgeable about types of bicycles and showcased the products he had available. Josh, the mechanic, was very friendly as well. I created this yelp account to specifically warn potential customers of Irvine Bicycles. Pros: 1. The gentleman on the phone was extremely pleasant and helpful when I wanted a quote for a new inner tube. So that's why I don't feel so bad giving them one star for that one employee. Cons: 1. My bicycle was serviced by some apathetic kid who changed my inner tube in 5 minutes. He didn't even re-attach my rear brake. Luckily, I noticed before I crashed into something. 2. The kid neglected to inform me that I needed a new tire as well as a new inner tube. So guess what? My $7 inner tube with $10 labor POPPED 90 minutes from installation because a thorn went through the tire into the inner tube. Clearly I do not know that much about bicycles if I don't know how to change an inner tube myself. I pay money to bicycle shops because I trust that the "experts" know what they're doing. I am upset that I was sold an inner tube when what I really needed was a new tire to protect my new inner tube. When I went back, the employees tried ignoring me because they didn't want to deal with me again. And it was then that I was informed that my first inner tube had popped because I really needed a new tire as well. So they wanted to charge me even more money for a second inner tube and a new tire. read more

Bought a bike online and these guys were happy to assemble it. I was porting the bike via public transit, 2 miles by foot and 5 miles by bus, and they were happy to assemble it on the spot and within the hour. Works great, did a wonderful job. Cannot recommend highly enough. And the prices were about 50% lower than most other stores. read more

Awesome shop, great vibe, excellent service. Frank ordered my custom color Colnago C60 after I had been told by many dealers that Colnago would not do custom paint work. He located a difficult to find new Campagnolo 80th Anniversary group set for the build. Brian built the bike perfectly and Peter dialed in my fit. They have since worked on my other bikes and ordered me another Campagnolo wheel set for my other Colnago. Service after the sale has been incredible. I highly recommend this bike shop! read more

This bike shop is one of the best in Irvine. I came in the shop not knowing which road bike to purchase since I am a new to cycling. They showed me a very nice Felt Z85 which I purchased. The staff is very knowledgeable and will tend to all your needs. They took the time and effort to fit me to the bike with no rush. Answered all my questions and worked with me every step of the way. Brought a Giant AC2 in for a frayed derailleur cable, and the tech behind the counter repaired it within 15 minutes while I waited. This place is great. I got my old bike packed there for shipping. The finished box was too big to fit in my 4 door sedan. One of the employees at the shop helped me transport the bike box in his own truck to Fedex. This is what I call personal service. I agree with Travis W's review of this bike shop. Their prices are in line with other shops that I used to go to, but their services are much better than other shops. Since then, I take all my bikes there for service. Last year, whilst cycling through back bay, I met a fellow rider that recommended a great LBS (Irvine Bicycles). I decided to visit their store as I am relatively close. I have to say, I have been very pleased with their service and sales. They carry a good selection of inventory, much more than the cookie cutter bike shops; .e.g Performance Bike, etc. I mean, those bike shops are a disgrace. Yeah, if you want to buy a $200 performance road bike, then Peformance is for you. Anyway, I recommend you ignore the one and two reviews here as this is definitely not the case with Irvine Bicycles. read more

We all know that I have a crappy bike but they have never pressured me to buy a new one from them. It's a really chill bike shop with a mellow atmosphere. I just bought a tri bike from Irvine bicycle because the guys at Rock n road were terrible. The staff at Irvine bicycle were very knowledgable and so helpful. When they didn't have a shoe I wanted they called other bike shops for me to see if they had it for me to buy. Seriously, who's ever heard of helping you shop at a competitors? After over forty (40) years of racing, and competitive cycling on the track and road I highly recommend the services offered at Irvine Bicycles (IB)! They are engaging and offer excellent customer service that is competitively priced. Since May of this year when I cracked a Top Tube on a 2009 F1 Felt while riding Como Street, I have wanted to write a review and recommend the professional services offered by Frank, Peter, Brian and Alex. Knowing that Felt offered a VIP replacement (Felt would replace a frame or fork at cost upon failure) I dropped my F1 off at a "Competitor's" shop in Mission Viejo for repair, because the shop was close to the house. At the time I was traveling out of the country for two (2) weeks and was hoping to hear quickly from the "Competitor's" on the replacement. Having not heard anything after a week, I called and left a message for the mechanic that was looking after the issue. Called again just before coming home, left another message, no response. Arriving on Friday, picked up the bike from the "Competitor's" on Saturday and drove over to IB and met Frank. Prior to this Saturday had never been at IB -other than riding past it multiple times. Frank stated that they would call Felt and would call me back the first part of the week, which he then called on Tuesday! After Felt offered to replace the Frame at cost, Frank called again and stated that Felt had another offer which was a better than the Frame Set offered on Tuesday. Hearing the details from Frank, selected the new frame set which was a lighter and stiffer and within two (2) days the Bike was built. Since have purchased consumables, Tires, Chains, etc ... and most recently not knowing my wife purchased a Garmin 520 as a gift. They treated her as an equal not knowing that the 520 was for me. Excellent customer service and highly recommend IB to anyone that is looking for services that are competitively priced. read more

Been to this shop a few times, each time I asked someone for help, I was usually given to the older Asian gentleman, who I assume is the owner. He then looks around and asks more questions to the employees and then pawns me off to them. His answers (like for thorn proof tubes) are usually common sense answers and obviously not from experience. The last time I went in, I needed a screw for my brake. According to "him", my brakes were very uncommon. He did not care to look through his "20" bins of screws to look for one and said he would probably not have it. Befuddled by this type of customer service, I looked into my brakes, and they are apparently extremely common. I will not be shopping there again. There are so, so many alternatives. read more

Asked for a hollow axle for upgrading a kids bike to quick-release, nothing really difficult, I even had the wheel with me. First they told me it can't be done, then that I was better off buying a new wheel. When I asked, just for a laugh, how much a wheel would be, they told me they do not even make them that size with a quick-release. Anyone that knows about bikes knows that they told me "inaccurate" information. As a matter of fact I just finished upgrading the wheel myself. The poor rating is because this is a typical overpriced OC boutique bike shop for people looking to spend few grands on a bike without much knowledge about bikes in general. If people knew how to use a screwdriver, they would never spend $70 for a "tune up". Needless to say, I will not be a customer of theirs when I buy my new bike... read more

I bought my Scott Bike somewhere else but when it came time for my wife to get a bike, her friend told her about a bike brand called Colnago. Great...that's an expensive brand and my wife wanted the latest disc brakes bike from Colnago. She demands nothing but the best, I guess that's why I'm her husband. a quick search pointed me to Irvine Bicycles. The sales person was super friendly, he was really interested in educating us so we can make good decisions. He took a while explaining the differences between the different Colnago's and recommended that my wife wear her bike outfit in for a fitting to determine the size of her bike. She had a standard upright bike with normal pedals. We definitely got the feeling that this shop really enjoyed the process as much as we did. When we came back a couple of days later, they set up several bikes on the trainer and have my wife pedal several different sized bikes and found the perfect fit. The process was not short but the bike, pedals, shoes, fit my wife just right and the time spent on fitting really paid dividend later on all the bike outings we have since done. The sales person was superb, I mean he was on his knees a lot adjusting everything. Good thing we did all the test riding because we found out that my wife did not like the top of the line Colnago disc brake bike but an endurance version was more to her liking, CX-Zero disc. We paid for the bike and got some great store credit for other goodies. About a week later, her bike arrived and we were told to come in when it was assembled. We will never forget the first time we saw her bike...gorgeous! My wife just loves riding her bike and I'm a super hero because I picked this bike shop. read more

Very poor customer service. Came in to have a BB replaced, was told they had it in stock and would be ready in a 5 days. Also asked for chain and brake pads to be replaced. Came back in 5 days and the bike didn't have a chain on it. Was told that they had ordered the chain and come back tomorrow. Came back the following day and found they had the chain but they had forgot to fix the BB, was told to comeback the next day. Came back again and was told they had to order the BB, so I just paid my bill and gave up on them. read more

Just had my Dutch bicycle fixed and they did a great job in record time and had all parts on hand! I had two tires and tubes replaced and a tune up. The price was very affordable and the service and information provided was outstanding.
