The most important thing is to do your research before you buy a bicycle. Prices for a bicycle can range anywhere from a few hundred to over $10k. No matter how good the bike is, it's got to fit you and you've got to be comfortable or you are going to be miserable. Whatever you think your size is, always test at least one size below and one size above to judge which one feels the best. Not all bike shops will have the sizes for you to test, so it's imperative that you visit a few. The guys here at Irvine bicycles are good people. They will let you test as much as you need and are eager to help you get on a bicycle. Once you buy the bicycle, you can also get it fitted to your body here. This is where you are put on the bicycle and an expert spends time to adjust the seat position, stem, handle bar, test ride. Their prices aren't the cheapest but their service is great. The most unfriendly bike shop I've been to in Orange County. The sale reps were unknowledgeable and had to check the cannondale catalog every single time I had a question. The sale manager was the most unfriendly and seemed to be proud of the fact that they are still in business while other bike shops are foreclosing. He even blatantly refused to give me any discount on last year model bike because he thought his shop is the only one that had it in stock. The sale manager seriously needs a fact check. Anyways, you can benefit from my lesson and bring your business elsewhere namely Roam Cyclery, Path Bike Shop, or Rock and Road. They are much more friendly at these places. I ended up saving over $500 on the identical Cannondale bike but I had to go down to San Diego, which was a little inconvenience but worthwhile considering the saving. The only extra star I give this place because they are the outlet to get UCI cycling clothes. Otherwise, it would deserve 1 star or 0 star. read more

With his knowledge I was able to choose the right Motiv ebike model for my wife and myself. They also took the time to email me pictures of the different colors they had in stock which enabled me to make just one visit to their shop. Awful customer service. Needed to get a part for my Cannondale and was told I needed to go to a Cannondale dealer to get it. I arrive and no greeting. Dude takes a picture of the part on my bike and takes down my number and name and says he'll call me tomorrow. He looks half stoned and as uninterested as can be but whatever, I just want the part. I call the next day because Ryan hasn't called, and some guy starts going on about how Ryan had a half day and I need to call back tomorrow. As a customer, I don't care at all why he isn't doing what he said he would; I'm trying to fix my bike. His tone was as if I had interrupted his day - sorry for inconveniencing you. So I call the next day, hoping to just get the part ordered, and lo and behold, Mr. Ryan is testing out a bike and seemingly just cant be bothered to deal with my issue. Again, the guy on the phone tells ME to call back. Eventually he concedes to take down my name and number and says they will all in a few minutes. Of course, they do not. This was my 1st time coming to this store and I was very pleased. This is a great place where I sent in my bicycle to be fixed. Josh, the mechanic, was very friendly and spent a lot of time working on my bicycle. The bicycle had a flat tire and some other problems. The price charged was lower than some of their competitors. What a great place to get my first road bike! I purchased my first road bike from Irvine Bicycles back in 2011 when I was an undergrad going to UC Irvine. I purchased a Felt Z85 Road Bike for a thousand something dollars but they had this great deal where I got a helmet and some road bike clothing and accessories for free with the purchase. It may seem like a lot of money at first, but it's now 2016, just a few days until 2017 and this bike has been great for weekend riding and commuting to work. Thank you to the staff around that time that helped me pick out this bike! I moved back home to Los Angeles and I"ll occasionally e-mail them for bike maintenance help, and to my surprise, they actually e-mail back and help! I'm a noob to biking, but so far, a big fan of Irvine Bicycles. Their selection was strong, and had a nice sampling of entry-level bikes for me to try. In my humble opinion, selection by itself isn't enough to warrant a five-star rating though. What impressed me about this store was the attention I got from the salesmen. Not only did they patiently stick with me for the 2 hours I was there riding, testing, fitting, etc, but they helped me find the exact right bike and accessories... which happened to be the 2nd cheapest of the 5 I tried out. Not only that, but I received a 20% store credit because it was a 2012. Not sure if that's just a promotion, but I was able to score $300 worth of gear for nothing, and to somebody just starting out, that's very helpful, because I had nothing. .... After I bought the bike, there was a fitting that took an hour to get through (could have been faster, but it was recommended that I clear out an hour so we get it just right). He adjusted my shoes, pulled out a pendulum to measure my center of gravity, tested, tweaked, tested, tweaked, adjusted, tested, tweaked, and an hour later, it fit like a glove. In the process I was taught proper riding position (first road bike ever, thank you very much), breathing, and how to determine when it's time to tune and adjust again. And he didn't push a bunch of overpriced, unnecessary products on me. When looking at shoes, the only ones that felt really good to me were over $200, which he could see caused me heartburn. He suggested I spend the extra money on the shoes, because if my feet hurt, I'll never want to cycle. Instead, go cheap on the clips for now, as the more expensive ones won't have the same impact as good shoes, especially for a new biker. So, I did that... $230 shoes, $70 clips. He was right too... I have hobbit feet, and they have kept me sidelined from athletics in the past because of the pain I tend to experience in my right foot. Good call, Chuck (his name may or may not have been Chuck) In all, I spent about $1,750 for a bike with sick specs and hardware (2012 Felt F75), shoes, shorts, clips, helmet, gloves, repair kit, bottles and cages, taxes, and a lifetime of attention and adjustments. Although somewhat far from home (initially, I was just down there killing time, with no intention of buying a bike from them), I tried taking my wife back there the next day so she could get a bike, but unfortunately, they are only available by appointment on Sundays, so we were out of luck. We really wanted to get our bike on, so we settled for a shop more local in Huntington Beach, and let's just say that was regrettable. Her bike is great, and the guy helping us wasn't bad, but he wasn't an enthusiast like the guys here at Irvine Bicycles, and you could tell just by our first couple of outings that mine was tailored for my body, whereas hers was... well... they lowered the seat after telling her she was wrong to feel uncomfortable. Awesome place to try new bikes. wasn't really sure about which road bike to get and was lucky enough to have Frank and Peter help me decide. Frank (Owner) actually brought out 3 styles of bike and have me try each one of them. after tried all 3 once, he asked me to try them all over again. He said this way you get a good feel and comparison among all 3. I must have test rode 20-30 minutes before I decided. The shop staff is very patient and went thought adjustments, even it was for test riding. Came here to get my bike assembled in Irvine, cost me $70 (standard rate) and it was assembled the same day. Guy with a name like "Atheon" comes out to help me carry the box which is nice of them. Got the call to pick up a few hours after I dropped off and when I arrived, the guy who assembled it gives me the low down on all the bike's features and his thoughts - pretty helpful! So after I had bought my bike here, which that whole issue is a little different and wont add into this rating, I put some miles on the bike and brought it back to get a little tune up. I brought in my bike on a Friday before noon and the asked me when I would like to pick it up the next day. I told them I wouldn't be in town, so I'll just pick it up after noon on Monday. So I come back Monday around 2 and they had literally just started working on my bike. One of the guys was giving me an attitude like " really, you didn't call to see if it was ready?" So they said come back in 30 minutes and it'll be done. So really, you said you only need one day to work on it and gave you a little more than 2 whole work days, for you to not even start until after I was supposed to pick it up, when it was only about a 30 minute job and give me attitude. I don't think I will be coming back here again, though I might give it a shot. The person who was originally helping me with my bike was actually really great and helpful. I bought my Canondale here. The bike shop offered free tune up (as usual) but they also fitted me couple of times after I purchased the bike. This bike shop definitely knows how to keep a good customer happy. Shop is very clean, organized, and very friendly. I see lots of avid cyclists hangout in the shop often. I joined one of the OCW ride from this shop, and I heard there are shop rides a few days a week. I find their prices fairly reasonable for a local bike shop. The selections are more towards high end -- you know when you step in the shop that the sales people there really know their stuff. This is one of the few shops in southern California that actually carries a nice range of Colnago bikes. Definitely I would recommend for someone who is shopping for a new bike to check this place out. I got a much better experience here than 5 other shops in Irvine. read more

I bought the wrong bike for our toddler seat to be installed (major bummer) so the owner advised me of the error and taught me what to look for. To the bike novice, Sand Canyon Cyclery seems to be just another LBS (Local Bike Shop). Their prices on sub-$1k road bikes are on the high side; you can find better prices online at JensonUSA.com or at a store like Performance in Tustin. On the other hand, they do seem to have more to offer to the higher-end rider in terms of selection, service, and willingness to help. On the plus side, the location is very nice; the building is attractive, clean, and new. The store is a block away from a nice off-road canal-side bike path that leads to the Newport Back Bay, so it's actually fairly accessible by bike. Decent place to go for a ride and get fitted, but I'm not sure the value is there, unfortunately. read more

Just picked up my trek speed concept that I had dropped off for a tune up. Alex did an absolutely phenomenal job. I had literally only asked for a drivetrain adjustment and wheel true, but Alex also cleaned the drivetrain, aligned the brakes, rewrapped my handlebars, and rerouted my front brake and replaced its cable housing, all for the price of a tune up. The quality of work is excellent, and my bike looks and runs like new. Highly recommended. read more

Second, Second, the price is higher than what I found from San Diego. Third, they only has the patience if you are ready to spend your money quickly on a high end model. If you are looking for something around $1000, you run out of your time very quickly. I went to their place because they carry Cannondale. I recently had an unusual problem of my rear tire rubbing in the area of where the seat stays connect on my Scott CR1 Team. I kept thinking that I was I was not mounting the rear wheel properly but after a number of mounts I took it to Irvine Bicycles. It was unusual in that rubbing usually occurs with the chain stays but that is from lateral wheel movement. Peter diagnosed it right away as a too big a tire. I was using a 25 mm tire and Peter said that Scott frames of that era should only be used with 23 mm or less tires. He explained that when the tire was first put on it would be OK which it was for a few months until after a number of inflations causes the tire to increase in size ever so slightly until one day it rubs where my did. I'm new to the area, but an avid road bike rider. This place is close to my condo and highly rated, so I gave it a shot. The store has a lot of cool items for your bike, gear or protection. The guys were really friendly and pretty accommodating since I needed my bike back probably a day soon than they originally said. They did a pretty good job of cleaning the bike and the other regular tune up things. The price is a bit high, but other than that, no complaints. read more

Very deep Cervelo selection as well as some Felts on the tri side and other higher end brands on the road bike side. didn't buy a bike today, but was able to ride a couple of bike son my list. If I end up buying new, I'll be back for sure. Meanwhile I will recommend this store to friends. We just purchased a Felt ZW100 for my Wife. We were helped by Josh (I believe he is the owner). He was very knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and patient. My wife had been riding a Trek 2300 that was too large. As a result, she had severe neck and shoulder pain. Josh recommended a 54cm and he was spot on. These guys are the best. I have stopped by multiple times and each time the experience is amazing. This crew is genuinely interested in helping me and not try to upsell any product. In fact they convinced me not to purchase a cleaning solution, instead recommended using a household-cleaning product. On another occasion I brought my bike in due to a noise around the crank area. I had already taken the bike in for the same issue at another local bike shop. They suggested replacing the crank. The Irvine Bicycle rode the bike and told me the issue was a bent derailleur, which they fixed without any charge. This is what I love about these guys. Wow! What an experience I had at Irvine bicycles. I was greeted by such a friendly staff that I felt at home as soon as I walked in the door. I only went in for a repair but the guys jumped on it immediately, especially Frenchy, who went way out of his way to help me repair my bike and get back on the road quickly. Even though I was only in for a repair, I browsed the store a very nice high-end bicycles. I had many questions and may even upgrade to an E bike after the guys took such good care of me. When folks talk about saving local bike shops, this is one of those shops that deserves to be saved. I bought my bike and some accessories here about a year and half ago. The purchase included a bike fit. Peter set me up with a quick fit and let me ride around for a few weeks to figure out what I wanted. I then returned to buy the pedals and shoes and to get the full bike fit. I have been back a couple of times for accessories and supplies. They always have good suggestions and are helpful. I give them one star for their friendliness. You might want to read some of the non-recommended reviews. My experience was similar to theirs. These guys were really nice and friendly when I brought my bike in for a tune up. Great job on the tune up and replacing my front flat tire. They failed when it came to pricing. It was my fault for not doing the research before I give them the go ahead. My brakes were out, so I asked them to replace my brakes. First it was 20 to replace, then it was 220 to replace. I had to replace the whole thing. so ok. They had a set of brakes they just took off someone else's new bike. The price is a steal so I gave them the go ahead. I called them back shortly to say I changed my mind. I found the brakes online for a cheaper price. They said too late the brakes are already on my bike. I asked them to take it off. They said $150 to take off the brakes. I called The Path in Tustin to see how much they would charge to take off the brakes, $30. Not only that but they had the same brakes on sale for $140. The guys told me only they can take off the brakes. I was stuck. When I came to pick up my bike. Asian guy tells me those people online are unreasonable with their prices. I shouldn't believe them. I told him the price I saw online was $200, $20 difference. Guy goes...oh. Oh?! I thought it was a steal!? I didn't tell him about the other Tustin bike shop. Thought he might lower the price to what I saw online, he didn't. In summary, they sold me a used set of brakes at regular price or more. Sorry, the bike it came off of may have been new, but to me those brakes were used. Don't believe them when they tell you they're doing you a favor with their prices. Do your research!! read more

This is my go to bike shop and has been since I moved to the neighborhood. The mechanics have a wealth of knowledge regarding both road and mountain bikes. Since I like to work on my own bike I really like this shop because they always take the time to listen to what is going on and then diagnosing the problem and explaining it to me and how they are going to fix it. That really helps me understand how everything works so I might be able to fix it myself the next time. Their prices are very reasonable and they have been able to find every part I have ever needed. If they don't have it they can probably get it for you. Most recently I had a fork that needed servicing. I dropped it off and they sent it to the manufacturer for service. An issue developed and they dealt with the manufacturer on my behalf and kept me updated through the entire process. The outcome was much better than I expected. I could not have handled that myself. Unlike the nationwide and chain bike shops these guys make you feel like you are taking your bike to a friend's garage to be fixed. read more

We, 3 bike chicks, traveled from Vegas to ride the century for MS. This was the closest shop from packet pick-up. We all are very familar with the basics of changing a tire & tube. The male employees were very welcoming & top notch in helping us find proper tires & tubes to replace on one of our bikes. They were even very quick in switching the old tires & tubes out for us. However, they failed to inform us that it would cost $20 extra for doing so! Really!? Colnago C59. Just the sound of it conveys quality, exclusivity and top of the artistic side of cycling. I wanted to get a Colnago C59 with all the trimmings. I thought I knew enough about bicycles and ignored Irvine bicycle's many advice believing I knew better. The frame came, stunningly gorgeous. Irvine Bicycle put it together and the bike was not bad, silky smooth. Over $10k spent. Until one day, I rode another friend's C59...wow! What a difference in stiffness; my bike was made for smoothness but I wanted the stiffness. My C59 was not doing it for me. I took the bike back to the store NOT expecting anything. I mean what did you want them to do? When I ordered the frame, I insisted on the spec and that was what I got. What could they do? Well, as it turned out, they rolled up their sleeves and got down to work. Frank and Peter told me to come back the next day and when I did, there was a tri pod with a camera all set up. They put me on the trainer and had me pedal the bike. They took videoss of the bike in several angles with 2 different Colnago C59's showing the difference in flex. Then took the raw footage, edited it (1 of Perter's sons did that; fantastic professional job) with side-by-side comparison showing my frame flexed too much, put it on Youtube, called Colnago and bugged them endlessly. Make a long story short, Colnago agreed to sell me another C59 frame at a super discount. I don't mind spending the $ when I get the quality especially it's my own fault for not listening to the pro advice in the first place. 2nd time around ordering the C59, I listened to all their advice and now a new C59 sits proudly in my living room (yes, in the center of my my living room, divorce has its advantages). The 2nd C59 rides just like the Italian super bike it's supposed to be. Problem completely remedied. Gorgeous too. Irvine Bicycles could have just told me, 'Too bad, this is what you ordered. Live with it.' But they didn't. Irvine Bicycles also did not make a cent on the 2nd bike due to the deep discount and they put in A LOT of work to make sure I'm happy with my purchase. They took a lot of pride in what they do and what can you say about this level of customer service...AWESOME! read more
