The sign on the front door of Cyclepro says to use the back door. Walked in the back and the guy working on a bike acted as if I just walk into his house off the street! Super rude, even after I explained and apologized for coming in the back. Just moved to the area and I was looking for a lock, accessories, etc and curious about future repairs. BUT never got that far, as his stand-off behavior continued. This Juan guy must be a heck of a mechanic, but he sure wasn't interested in my reasons for being there, and certainly not interested in cultivating any new business. I had my vintage Bianchi restored and upgraded here on my first visit. Juan is a super cool guy who's not only knowledgeable but personable as well. He let me ride some of his vintage bikes and in talking we were able to get my bicycle back on the road with a couple of upgraded vintage parts. Honestly, it was a true alignment walking in here. The BEST tuneup ever. For the same price other places charge, this was hands-down the best. In addition to making the normal adjustments, they removed the components and put them in a degreasing bath and re-installed them. They also cleaned and lubricated the shifters and replaced all the cables. Other bike shops in Irvine only perform adjustments (one shop I had to revisit twice to get the job done right) and nobody ever cleans your bike. My Serotta looks brand new. read more

This is what a local bike shop should look like. Not filled with all the frills and dis-honest salespeople from those bike "boutiques" that only sell high end stuff. These guys are exceptional mechanics who do quality work at reasonable prices. Juan is straight up and honest with his recommendations. The wheels he trued for me a few years ago are still straight as they can be. He's also helped revive my '09 Specialized FSR XC, and my thirst to ride mountain again. I believe I have just witnessed a true master at work. Juan is trying to save a real wheel of mine that other mechanics have declared beyond their abilities to save. I have another wheel that I planned on using while he works, and as a favor he threw it on for me. I figured he'd just mess with the tension cable and send me on my way. I was mistaken. What followed was a dance with my derailleur the likes of which I have never seen. Fluid, fast, and dynamic: he did things with my bike that I didn't even know it was capable of doing. I stood in awe as he worked his mastery, and was left slack-jawed when he said, "that should do for now, come back on Saturday after your ride and I'll really get her tuned in for your upcoming race." "Uh...," I stammered, "that um is, uh, good." Still speechless from the artistry I just witnessed. The Absolute Best. I started riding summer 2006. When I began to have issues with my bike (shifting, etc.), I would take it to the local, much bigger shops, but the turnaround time was a nightmare and the bike was not much better than when I had dropped it off. One winter day in 2006, during a group ride (on which you could regularly find national and world champs), I asked several riders what shop they recommended. I worked with the owner Juan a million years ago when I worked part time at a Schwinn shop in Santa Ana, he was the "star" mechanic then - we're talking the late 80's. We lost touch until recently and come to find out he has his own shop, CyclePro, and came highly recommended by a mutual riding buddy. I remembered how great he was with repairs (back then) and decided to go visit him to help me with an aging relic Specialized mtn bike. My regular mechanics run from me when I show up because this beast is so old and outdated, there's just not much they can do (discontinued parts is a big problem). So, I was about to throw in the towel on this bike but decided to let Juan take a final crack at it. (gears and chain chatter up and down the freewheel), it's nearly impossible to ride when it acts this way. Well, I picked up my bike the next day (not a week, but the next day) and I have to say, HE FIGURED IT OUT. I can't tell you how happy I am, I can ride again without the gears acting all haywire. I have invested hundreds of dollars over the last 2 yrs trying to figure this out and Juan fixed me up and only charged me $20. This guy is literally the best mechanic I've ever worked with or used and I've known him for a very long time! He's honest and loves his craft, please support this small shop, I know I will and have no problem driving up from Dana Point. read more

There are a lot of people who can tighten a bolt, but NO ONE can build wheels like Juan, nor take five minutes and tell you what your bike really needs.
