Jake was a fantastic instructor, gave great surfing instruction and tips. My son felt very confident after the lesson with Jake.

What a fun experience! We came out on a Friday morning and it was just us and another group going out into the water. They had a kayak that could hold 2 adults and a kid in the middle, along with life jackets. We filled out the waiver online, so it was pretty quick to go out once we got there. We parked a little farther up at the paid spots. We launched from Fisherman's Cove. Before this, we had only been kayaking in calm waters in Newport Back Bay. The open waters is a totally different beast. Not gonna lie - I was a little nervous during launch because the waters were definitely rougher than the bay, and I can't swim. But I always felt safe. We went out to a few kelp beds and just chilled there for a bit, chatting with each other, learning about the area and each other. Living in Orange County, I was surprised at how much I didn't know about Laguna Beach and I learned a lot just chatting out in the water. The effect was surprisingly calming as the waves moved underneath us. The kelp beds definitely help break the waves a bit. Although we did pick up some kelp while paddling, it wasn't too bad. There were a few waves that were a little bigger, and our poor kid started to get a bit seasick about halfway through the tour. The way back was pretty straight forward, and we landed right where we launched. Everything was done with such ease - we all really enjoyed it! Even our kid was talking about it once we landed. We were able to wear basic beach footwear on the kayak, but were encouraged to leave everything in the car since there could be a tipping event - luckily we didn't experience one! But they took some photos for us and texted them over. While we didn't see any marine mammals, we did see several types of birds. The experience of being out in the kelp beds alone was pretty cool - I can imagine how magical it is to see some dolphin or a whale out in the water! read more

Fabulous experience for my 13 yr old grandson who had his first lesson surfing while visiting last week Ryan is a big buggy boarder and I surprised him with a surfing lesson this visit from Ohio La Vida staff were very impressive Last week waves were mammoth so they constantly kept in touch regarding conditions and delaying until they felt conditions would be safe The hour and a half lesson with Jake was worth more than the cost! His patience knowledge and skills got Ryan up and riding confidently for several hours His enthusiasm for surfing was contagious The next day we had to go rent a board so he could surf another day ! My sister and I had an amazing surf lesson with Jaeson in Laguna Beach yesterday. My sister has more surf experience than me, and really wanted me to join her on a morning lesson. I had only previously done one short lesson in Hawaii 2 years ago, and was reluctant to do it again. Being worried about being cold in SoCal waters and overall awkward on a surfboard due to my lack of experience. But, that's what a lesson is for, right? To get better! We met Jaeson at La Vida Laguna and got outfitted with full wetsuits, then headed down to the water. After a brief, but very thorough and easy to understand lesson on shore, we took to the water to start surfing. The wetsuit kept me happily warm and comfortable. Jaeson did an awesome job coaching us through each step, and to my surprise and delight, I rode each wave pretty well! It was so fun. The paddle boarding experience with Doug was just awesome. He guided us through fairly rough ocean conditions making me feel comfortable and confident even though I had never paddled in the ocean before. Took my 10yo here for a lesson. Short walk to the beach. She was up right away. Fell in love with surfing. Jason was great at keeping things simple and easy. Id recommend brining some water. Someone or something for capturing epicness. You'll mostly be on the water. If you are on the beach it'll probably be turn around to catch another wave. We saw dolpins! We used La Vida Laguna to take some extra surf lessons even though we've taken them before in Costa Rica. Our three girls (8, 9, 12) had a great time. Hunter and Brayden were really chill, got the girls motivated, and stuck with them through the whole 2.5hrs we were there. The meeting spot is in a good location and it's a quick walk to the water. This was our first time kayaking with our kids and being in the Covid time, we were ambivalent. We didn't know what to expect. When we got there, our guides, Jack and Ali were great. They wiped the the paddles, provided sanitizer wipes. They totally made us feel really comfortable. The kayak tour itself was great. My two kids, 10 and 5 loved it and wants to do it again! Ali and Jack are super accommodating and really friendly. I want to especially thank Jack. My 5 yr old son was leaning on him the whole time. His leg fell asleep and he was still in the great mood to entertain my kid telling him about the seaweeds. I truly want to thank Jack. We booked a private surf lesson for our nephew who was trying surfing for the first time. We made our reservation over the phone with Doug who helped us decide a private lesson was the best option. We were recently at the St. Regis in Dana Point, and had the opportunity to do some coastal cycling. As soon as we stepped outside the lobby, Mike and the rest of the La Vida Laguna crew were waiting with a van full of bikes and helmets for us to use! After giving a brief but useful rundown of the bikes, gears, etc. we were on our way. Mike led the pack, and some of the other friendly staffers were positioned in the middle and rear to ensure we didn't lose anyone in our varied ability group of 20+ cyclists. Mike took frequent stops to gather the group and share points of interest, cool views, and also give us the lay of the land for the terrain ahead. He was also at the top of tricky climbs giving motivation pump-ups to keep us pedaling. Most impressive was their ability to cater to such a diverse crowd, offering advice and suggestions regardless of prior skill or athleticism. They also provided a "chase van" that rendezvoused with our group 2-3 times, offering fresh bottled waters and (should anyone have needed it) a ride back to the hotel. About 1/3 of the way into our circular loop trip, we were presented the option to go back the way we came, or continue onward to see new scenery. Some of our group opted for the former, most of our group - including the two of us (both athletic/skilled cyclists) - continued on. After some more stops and a stunning viewpoint/group photo opportunity, we headed back to the St. Regis, capping off a leisurely 15-mile ride in about 3 hours. A+ guys! read more

This surfing school is good. I was very impressed by Justine. He is a very attentive instructor. He lets you take your time, he helps in the water a lot. Justine was probably the most helpful instructor at the beach, as he chose the waves, helped to gain momentum and pushed when needed. It was my first surfing experience, and Justine made it excellent and not stressful! read more

AMAZING..just surfed with this place and the two guys were awesome. They were careful with my girlfriend and I as they talked us through everything..even when I lost the board when I got smacked by a massive wave. My friend Christy and I took our first paddle boarding lesson yesterday and it was awesome :) The class provides an opportunity to tour Laguna via ocean waves and in tandem get a workout. Don't discount paddle boarding as workout. Your core and legs will be engaged the whole time. The burn will come the next day and stick around for a few more-eek! So go tone your mind and your body! I took a surfing lesson here and although the instructor was very nice to talk to and polite, I felt as if the lesson itself was subpar as I at times felt neglected and as if I was not receiving enough attention to better my surfing. A lot of times I was told to paddle too far out only to paddle right back in again and again. Also, there were times when the instructor would be catching his own waves while leaving me and one other student waiting. Overall, I would not come for another lesson at this school read more

I had my first surf lesson at age 36 with Justin and it was pretty good. I sucked, but that was expected on a first go. Meeting was at the surf shack right next to Jack in the Box. There you get suited up, sign a waiver, pick a board and head to the ocean. Laguna Beach is quite gorgeous and people are friendly. The whole area has a "laid back state of mind" which is a great escape from the daily grind. I had a great time "surfing" and would definitely recommend it. read more
